She was attentive, kind, and always paying attention to whether we needed anything without hovering. We started with the appetizer sampler and chose the fried pickles, okra, and green beans. Everything came out hot, fresh, and lightly breaded, which I really appreciated. Nothing felt greasy or overly heavy. Also, the sweet tea was actually sweet and delicious, not that sad "dark water" tea you sometimes get other places. We split the chicken fried chicken sandwich and an order of 8 honey BBQ wings. Both came out at the same time, and honestly, we probably could have chosen just one because the portions were huge. For the price point, that was a big plus. Everything I saw on the menu looked reasonably priced and fair for today's economy, no price gouging. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. The breading was light, the outside was crispy, and the chicken was still juicy. The wings were fried naked and crispy before the sauce was added, which I loved. My only tiny nitpick would be that there was a little more sauce than I personally prefer. I would have liked the option to add more sauce if needed, since you can always add more but can't take it off once it's on. Overall, this was such a good experience. Great service, fresh food, big portions, fair prices, and a true local restaurant feel. I'm so glad we chose this place and will definitely be sending people this way!

Food was very good, and less expensive than most restaurants with similar menu items. Service was great too - waitresses were very attentive and the fact that we had small children wasn't a bother. There were many families with kids in the restaurant as well. 2 adults and 1 kid meal with drinks came out under $50 (before tip), which is pretty unheard of in 2025 with inflation and all! Most importantly, we were stuffed! If we're ever in the area again, this will be our first pick for a meal!

I substituted the grilled chicken for the Cajun grilled catfish! and Omitted the Bacon. The grilled Catfish sandwich was perfectly seasoned and balanced with the Avocado, cheese, tomato and toasted bun. It was definitely Heaven!! Thank you to Haley, the kitchen staff for making my delicious sandwich, and to the owner!! We will definitely be back!!

The wait was longer than we expected for our food considering it was maybe a 3rd full in the restaurant. For the appetizer we had the Chickels and Pips. That was good. For my entree, I had the Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo with a house salad. The salad was soggy and the croutons were stale. The entree was average at best the with bites of steak rubbery. I will give a 5 star for the sweet tea as it was outstanding. My wife had the Louisianna Sauteed Catfish. She said the catfish wasn't bad and the cole slaw was pretty good but the grilled vegetables were bad. They were overcooked and saturated with way too much grease. She likes to put lemons in her water but ended up drinking the water plain because the lemons were old. We were excited to bring our friend over to Vernon's but it turned out to be a bummer. Our app came quickly but the drinks and food came so slowly. Also between us asking for waters while we look at the cocktail menu was a lot of elapsed time. Food: the steak frites were very salty (and I love salt) but definitely the best meal ordered. The "Mac attack" tasted cheeseless -- literally tasted like water. The chicken Alfredo was "mid" but also a super tiny portion. Both pastas looked like kids meals. I guess they were priced appropriately at least. Not pictured was the Donny burger -- described as "eh it was fine". All left more to be desired. We really wanted to try the cinnamon cake but decided against since service was sooooo slow. The peach tea was bad. The oasis marg was okay. When we asked for wine, we were told "I don't know what we have let me show you" and were shown the screen that listed: white, red, rose, and sparkling. The wine should be listed on the menu with the beer and the cocktails. I'd maybe come again to sit at the bar and have a drink or two if there's live music, but otherwise, this is skippable for a full meal service.

Unfortunately, something seems to have changed over the last few weeks. The food suddenly started tasting completely different and, in our experience, just wasn't good anymore. We thought maybe it was an off night, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back a couple more times. Sadly, it hasn't improved. I don't know if the ingredients have changed, if something has changed in the kitchen, or what's going on, but the quality just isn't what it used to be. We've also noticed the customer service has gone downhill. It's disappointing because we've been customers for years and really enjoyed this place. After giving it several chances, though, we've decided we won't be going back. I genuinely hope they figure out what changed and get back to the quality they used to have.
