2.5 stars.... my wife and I brought our friend who drove down from Plano at Vernon's Lakeside on Sunday, 8/26/2025. The wait was longer than we expected for our food considering it was maybe a 3rd full in the restaurant. For the appetizer we had the Chickels and Pips. That was good. For my entree, I had the Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo with a house salad. The salad was soggy and the croutons were stale. The entree was average at best the with bites of steak rubbery. I will give a 5 star for the sweet tea as it was outstanding. My wife had the Louisianna Sauteed Catfish. She said the catfish wasn't bad and the cole slaw was pretty good but the grilled vegetables were bad. They were overcooked and saturated with way too much grease. She likes to put lemons in her water but ended up drinking the water plain because the lemons were old. We were excited to bring our friend over to Vernon's but it turned out to be a bummer. You would think they would go out with a "bang" considering they're getting ready to shut down for good. P.S. Chelsea was our server and she was good. read more

This was our 1st time visiting Vernon's. Haley, our waitress is an asset to to Vernon's. Not only was she delightful and attentive, she was accommodating to my dietary needs!! I was so impressed with the menu, I decided to create a fish sandwich, with a couple of substitutions. On the menu it is called TABC on a Bun (Tomato Avocado Bacon top of grilled chicken on a bun). I substituted the grilled chicken for the Cajun grilled catfish! and Omitted the Bacon. The grilled Catfish sandwich was perfectly seasoned and balanced with the Avocado, cheese,tomato and toasted bun. It was definitely Heaven!! Thank you to Haley,the kitchen staff for making my delicious sandwich, and to the owner!! We will definitely be back!! read more

Very inconsistent reviews - and it seems pretty easy to see why. This place ain't shiny. Yes, the tables outside are sticky. I saw them wiping one down, so when the seats were also sticky, we decided it was the paint. I think maybe a cheap paint never properly dried and it remains tacky (literally), maybe? Anyway, yeah, the outdoor tables are sticky. And there are a few flies, because, you know, outdoors on the lake. Lake vibes. Moving onto the important parts. Huge patio. Large dock where boats can park to come eat - or get food to go. Nice folks working there - folks up front were sweet and welcoming and our server was great. Once seated, we were greeted and drink orders were taken right away. Multiple burgers sounded good, so I got our server's recommendation. The guacamole burger sounded awesome and was easily her recommendation from my choices. How did I want it cooked? Admittedly didn't expect that question, given the place's vibe. I told her at least medium and maybe medium well, given ground beef can be questionable and I've felt horrible after a medium burger before. I told her I trusted her recommendation. The burger was a BEAST. See the pic. The cheese was insane. Tons of guac. Beef was very much on the medium side - lots of pink. I enjoyed picking at the outside of the cheese - crunchy delicious cheese chip yumness. House chips were yum. A few were soggy but most were on point. Shrimp in my wife and son's plates were awesome. Fresh and well seasoned. I got my son's mango salsa as well - and was glad he didn't care for it. YUM. Ice cream counter right at the entrance. Good call for a lake spot. We didn't partake, but it looked steadily busy. A little divy. And that's how we like it. Burger was awesome and service was super friendly and personable. Patio was what we wanted, even in the heat. This was my first time and certainly won't be the last. It's such a fun vacation atmosphere outside! Plenty of toys to keep kids busy in a play area that can be watched by parents. The drinks are phenomenal! I loved the watermelon mojito and also the mango margarita. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and they were all yummy. The fries are the best ever! I also loved the seafood refresher. Someone at our table ordered a chicken sandwich and another ordered a burger. They both said they were delicious. And a nice lady at a nearby table said the chicken pot pie is amazing. Our server was wonderful and attentive. This is a local family owned business where it's obvious that they work hard to provide the best for their customers. Looking forward to the next visit! read more

The young lady who helped us tie up was very helpful. The food was fine. Our biggest problem is they seem to think we came there for a rock concert and not dinner. They had live music, which would've been considered good if I were interested in attending a rock concert, but was way too loud for the venue. We were there with a toddler and an infant and were genuinely concerned about damage to their hearing. We also could not hold a simple conversation because the music was simply too loud. Vernon's needs to advertise the fact you will not be able to hold a conversation and you will be bombarded with very loud music if you go there on a Saturday for dinner. read more

We really wanted to like Vernon's. Con's: 1. Had to locate Host to be seated. It wasn't that busy. It was 2:30pm on a Friday. 2. The flies were crazy. We set by a window view of the lake. The glass section we set was at the back last table on right . There were at least 17-18 flies in our section. Most stayed on window seal and glass. They didn't really bother us until we got our food. 3. My napkin had several stains the color lot of bird poop. Asked for paper napkins. 4. Had a faint smell of sour mop water was used to mop. Had same smell the first time we came after first opening. Pros: Ambiance was cool. Food was good not great. read more

The place is large and has a lot of seating inside and on the patio. The staff was friendly. From a marketing stand point, these promo plastic displays need to be replaced. Very unattractive. The whole restaurant was filthy when I was there last. The floors were sticky. The server was sloppy and unkept. Wearing slides instead of server appropriate shoes. There were a lot of flys. Food was decent but I had to fight off the flys the whole meal. Obviously y'all do fine but it's unappealing to most. I'm definitely not trying to be ugly, just want to bring some things to your attention. read more

Decent down home food on the lake. St. Patrick's Day and the house is packed but we were seated quickly and the food came fast. The Cajun catfish had a heavy handful of Louisiana spice but the boy made it disappear. The protein plate was just that, protein. And the chicken fried steak had a crunchy coating that fought off the gravy and maintained its crunch. Good and filling. Came by few times since the the last review...similar routine - get a couple Of buckets of beer a couple Orders of the Chickles and Pips, yes I typed it correctly - perfectly seasoned battered and fried pickle slices with crispy hand cut potato chips...I enjoyed the black and blue burger, 1/2 lb of ground goodness with Gorgonzola blue cheese crumbles, crispy Applewood smoked bacon and garlic aioli. Wow...when the cheese melts into this foot punch of flavor! Server with a side of fresh cut fries. So not to be negative but the service is on lake time so adjust your time settings when entering from the boat dock, just takes some time to get your first bucket and the appetizers, so order lots when you get your servers attention. Always good food and good service! The queso is amazing, but comes in a container you would expect a side of dressing in!

This place is great for what it is! We sat outside on the large patio, they have fans everywhere for the heat and a nice view. The service was consistent but don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. We ordered the chicken Caesar wrap, the smothered fries and the blue cheese burger. A little slow to get the food but when we did it was fantastic. If you're not in a hurry this place is fantastic. read more

I don't write reviews often unless they're good ones, but something had to be said. I have been looking forward to dining at this restaurant all week since we came to visit. To start, our server was very nice. However the food was awful. I got the chicken Cesar wrap- the chicken was dry and the lettuce in it was just the hard white center pieces of the lettuce. I took three bites and just ate the fries (which were cooked in old grease). My brother got the fish and chips. He said the beer batter tasted like pancakes and it hurt his stomach. He ended up just eating half of the inside portion of the fish. My boyfriend said he would have been equally as happy with gas station food if that says anything. The chef came out and asked how everything turned out and when we mentioned how bad the batter was, he said that he didn't like it and that since we came on Thursday we should have gotten the steak. Outside of our sweet server and a fun atmosphere with a beautiful view, this really left us so disappointed. We will never go back, and we actually likened it to the chum bucket of the restaurants in the area. $70 meal that wasn't enjoyed at all and was an extreme let down. read more

My wife and I drove from Dallas for a lunch by the water. The food was good. The ambiance was typical lakeside casual dining outside on a covered porch. But, the service was outstanding. Our server was a smiling, cheerful and outgoing young lady named Kelsey who came by the table frequently to make sure everything was fine. It was as ordered. Tons of servers standing around and the place is filthy! Why has no one power washed the patio? Why doesn't the first crew dust off the spider webs and wipe off the gunk and bird poop from the tables? Food was fine but too grossed out by the filth to enjoy it. You can have a lakefront place and still do basic cleaning. Seriously, a quick power wash on Thursday before opening would do the place wonders! read more

Vernon's has really gone downhill. It has great potential. The view of the lake is great and good bands play outside. When the band is inside, it's too loud to converse. However, the restaurant is absolutely filthy! From top to bottom and everything in between. All of the glass doors are disgusting and the part of the kitchen we saw was the same. It was not very busy when we were there and there were several workers that could've swept , cleaned the glass.....anything other than just sit around as we saw. But if the owner doesn't care, why should the employees. As for the food, it's somewhat ok. I was served old wilted lettuce with my dish. Overall, a big disappointment. read more

We had the best time! We came right when they opened and were seated right away. Our waitress was Kalee and she was so kind and attentive. The chips were perfectly seasoned and the hot sauce was homemade and great! Highly recommend the Zinger sandwich! The trio sliders is a great purchase if you aren't sure which burger you want. What a cool place to visit if you are looking for good food after a day at being at the lake. The food was served hot and fresh with huge portions. I had the chicken fried chicken since they were out of the chicken fried steak. It was so large that it covered over half the plate and you could tell it was fresh out of the fryer. My wife has the fried catfish and it was very delicious kind of wish I had ordered it, lol. They had live music that was a bit too loud for my taste but they played some good tunes. read more

Every few months my wife's family has a "cousins" lunch and it was her lake cousins turn to choose the restaurant. They chose Vernon's and I'm glad they did. First of all, the food is good. I had the 50 50 Burger which has bacon cooked into the meat. Big and good. Maybe too big. After a couple of bites I ended up using a knife and fork which goes against everything I hold dear about eating a hamburger. But I soldiered on. All the while I kept eyeing the chicken fried steak which just about everyone else ordered and listened to them rave about how good it tasted. I mean, they wouldn't shut up. The point is that the food is good and the menu, by the way, has something for everyone. The service was really good. Our waitress was friendly, patient, got the orders right and kept the iced tea coming. Ambience is casual. I wore jeans and felt overdressed. There's a nice view of the lake and plenty of parking. They even have their own ice cream stand. All in all a very satisfying experience. Only next time I'm getting the chicken fried steak. read more

I'm so glad Vernon's Lakeside decided to open - we liked having a place to come for food/drinks and hangout by the lake. Nothing has changed here since it was Boondocks, except for maybe the new paint job on the exterior - it's definitely a lot more colorful than it used to be! We came on a Friday night and it was fairly busy - especially outside! We were able to get a large round table inside! Someone had a little too much fun on the 4th of July cause it smelled like puke when we walked in - definitely not something you want to smell when you're about to eat! They tried cleaning it up a few times - mopping the floors, etc but the smelled lingered. We ordered our food - they have a fairly decent menu - with California Club Wraps, Buffalo Wings, Chicken Tenders and the usual bar items to the large plates of Pot Roast and a House Made Chicken Pot Pie!!! There's something for everyone! The food took awhile to come out - though our server was pretty nice about it. She did mess up and bring out an extra California Club Wrap - and then charged us for it! Boohoo! We even told her and she didn't adjust the bill for us, even though it was totally her fault. Most establishments would've fixed it and taken it off and said it was on the house! Not this one! The food was actually pretty decent! My California Club Wrap was good - lots of turkey, bacon and soft tortilla! The Chicken Tenders were crispy and the chicken was juicy! The bf raves that this is the best chicken tenders he's ever had! Huge statement! We saw the Homemade Chicken Pot Pie and it looked huge! I wish we got it cause it looked delicious! There's a shuffle board and pool table inside; there was live music, cornhole and giant Jenga outside! Lots to keep busy with and right on the water! You can even boat in and park on the dock! First and last time to be here. So far, it's the worst place to have lunch. 32 minute wait to order our drinks, another 45 minutes to place our order and 2 hours to get our meals but not how we ordered. Friendly server while most of the staff avoiding their duties, ignoring customers,taking multiple breaks while a few working. Only one cook because the other workers decided to take the day off. Poor work force selection yields no return of customers like me. read more

My friends and I were in town for Ram Ranch and found this lakeside restaurant! The place was pretty busy but the wait staff were able to get us seated pretty quickly and were attentive throughout our visit. The food had big portions and was tasty. Having the lake being a back drop was also a great addition to the experience. The back porch leads to an outside dock bar as well as docks you can walk out on. When the weather is great, it's probably amazing to go out there and have some drinks overlooking the lake. Overall fun place to visit and eat at. Would come here again with friends. read more

Girls weekend getaway and we decided to stop here after dinner because they had a band. Inside was very crowded and masks were rare (our visit was the last weekend in April 2021). We ended up outside where they had a big patio but you couldn't hear the band because the doors were all closed to the band playing inside. The outdoor bar was closed or we'd have probably used it because our service was a little slow. Staff wasn't so great about wearing masks - at all or properly. Would I come back here again if I'm in town? Maybe, but I might see if there's somewhere else to go first. read more
