Also, the sweet tea was actually sweet and delicious, not that sad "dark water" tea you sometimes get other places. We split the chicken fried chicken sandwich and an order of 8 honey BBQ wings. Both came out at the same time, and honestly, we probably could have chosen just one because the portions were huge. For the price point, that was a big plus. Everything I saw on the menu looked reasonably priced and fair for today's economy, no price gouging. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. The breading was light, the outside was crispy, and the chicken was still juicy. The wings were fried naked and crispy before the sauce was added, which I loved. My only tiny nitpick would be that there was a little more sauce than I personally prefer. I would have liked the option to add more sauce if needed, since you can always add more but can't take it off once it's on. Overall, this was such a good experience. However, having grown up in Louisiana, I think the food is just OK. We ordered a cup of the gumbo and the crawfish etouffee. The gumbo was very tasty as the roux was very rich in flavor. The crawfish etoufee was a disappointment. It appeared the crawfish were chopped up, not whole in size, and the base for the etouffee tasted like the roux from the gumbo. Being from Louisiana, I prefer a bell pepper/tomato-forward stock, not roux-based. I don't want my dishes to taste like each other. Our friends ordered the muffaletta and the fried catfish. The muffaletta tasted like something Subway would create. The bread was nice, but the amount of meat and olive mixture was scant. The catfish batter was not the crispy cornmeal dredge I'm accustomed to, which did not allow for the crunch when biting into it. The flavor was ok, but it could have used more seasoning. The salad bar is your standard stuff. It tastes fresh and I love the onion vinaigrette dressing. I absolutely love their fish. At first, I was just getting it when I didn't have any luck on the lake. I soon grew to like it better than my own. Which is saying something since I've been eating it my entire life (45 yrs). The baked potatoes and fries are good but who cares once you got a plate full on fish? They always give me hush puppies but I never have room for them.
