Saturday, 10/25/26... This is yet another updated review of the Feed Trough as we have eaten there many times. And may I add that each time has always been an excellent experience. My wife had called about the Schnitzel and if they were still serving it. They have it on the menu for Oktoberfest. She had mentioned that because of Hogan's Heroes and all the German food they talk about on the show, I had a craving for German cooking. They usually serve it on days I work. However, I was off this past Saturday so she had asked if they would contact her if they were going to serve Schnitzel this Saturday. They contacted her and that yes, they were going to have it on the menu. We were excited that we were going to sample some good German cuisine. We brought a couple of our friends with us. We were not disappointed. All four of us ordered the Schnitzel meal. The meal consisted of the Schnitzel (very tender pork cutlet that you can easily cut with a fork), warm German potato salad with a perfectly tangy taste, homemade spätzle and of course sauerkraut. We all loved it. The whole meal was scrumptious. Kimberly served us and was so helpful answering questions about how the Schnitzel meal was actually cooked. I sure hope they keep it on their menu full time. You of course can't go wrong with their burgers and the loaded potatoes as well. read more

In town for a lake get away and our friends had recommended! We had the place to ourselves and had the BEST time!! We ordered the decision armadillo eggs and the pimento cheese eggs, so creative and yummy!! Our meal was caeser salad with homemade caeser, in fact all the condiments are made in house!! Our table got two spuds, and four burgers. The burgers were filling and tasty! They even gave us grilled in garlic aioli jalapenos which were perfect! The tater tots, regular and layered were so good!! And the onion rings were crunchy and tasted great! We got some dairy farm ice cream to go since we were stuffed! Thank you for hosting us for a yummy late lunch! The service was funny and so helpful as we made decisions! The location is easy to find right off the highway and accessible bathrooms. I had been here a year or two before, so I expected to be able to get a brisket plate for lunch. When I walked in, I was told that they no longer cook BBQ. Instead, they do baked potatoes and burgers. I opted for the brisket baked potato. I noticed that they pulled the brisket from the refrigerator. They cut off a few chunks and microwaved it. They did offer to grill my jalapeños and onions, which was nice. Although there were hardly any of them in the potato. The potato was what I would consider, medium sized. It came with sour cream, butter, cheese, grilled onions and jalapeños, and the warmed up brisket. The cheese was piled on top and never really ended up melting. I did pop it in the microwave when I got home to help it melt some. There was no barbecue sauce on the potato or offered on the side. The potato and brisket were quite dry. I ended up adding my own barbecue sauce on the potato when I got home. I will probably not return, as I was not very impressed. I did enjoy their barbecue back when they were selling it! It is a shame they stopped. read more

Tried this place with my husband, food was amazing!! Meat portion size was a bit small, but the sides were huge. The service was really great and I can't wait to come back and try a chopped brisket sandwich. I really enjoyed both BBQ sauces they had ( Texas and Carolina) liked them better mixed up together. I enjoy finding little getaways from Dallas and this place is a hidden gem located in Seven Points near Cedar Creek Lake. The area is surrounded with a lot of chain restaurants, but I prefer something more adventurous. We have great BBQ spots in Texas, but what really sets this place apart is their Carolina Pork and Bbq slaw! The owner is from North Carolina, he's very friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell he is passionate and it shows in the quality of food that he serves. Best lunch spot in east Texas! Great SW BBQ head chef plus family passed down true to Texas recipes equals food that I'm still daily dreaming about since I visited. The egg rolls! I heard angels singing!! The burnt ends, normally I find burnt ends way too fatty for my liking but these were cooked to a delicious perfection! And the smoke ring in every meat we had on the table was immaculate! I really don't have enough kind words about my experience here. And yes it was an experience! The owner himself came out to meet and greet us while we enjoyed our feast, what a delightful, respectful and smart man he is. I eat here every couple of weeks. As a native Texan who lived in North Carolina for a bit I appreciate the choice between Texas and NC style BBQ sauce. I got the brisket plate, green beans and potato salad. Very very skimpy on the meat. My wife's stuffed potato had lettuce and tomatoes on top. Catchy name? Check. Logo involves three little piggies eating out of a trough? Check. I once heard you can tell good barbecue by the anthropomorphism of the animals in the logo. A plain old pig is the bare minimum. A pig wearing, say, a chef's hat or standing next to a smoker is a good sign. A pig eating barbecue is the hallmark of a real joint, and one can only assume that the swine in The Feed Trough's logo are feasting on their smoky brethren rather than some Monsanto feedlot grain. This is a real down-home family joint. There's a sign outside advertising a litter of puppies for sale. I doubt your local Dickey's does that. Inside there are what appear to be family photos and posters hailing the 2nd Amendment. Yep, you're in the countryside of Texas now. But what will really catch your attention is the menu: in addition to the standard fare of brisket, there's also Lexington-style pulled pork. As in Lexington, NC style. I am often wary of trying regional styles that are outside of their region. KC 'cue should be best in Kansas City, the best Texan will be found on some shack by a dirt road in West Texas, and the best Carolina is had in a place between the pines. But while most imitators will just say "Carolina BBQ" without specifying East or West, the Trough is no imitator. I ordered their Lexington pork along with fried okra and baked beans. Came out about five minutes later, piping hot. The baked beans were good as was the okra. Cornbread was okay. But the Lexington pork was really, really good. I've had authentic Lexington BBQ before, including at the eponymous Lexington Barbecue, and this was a proud reproduction of that crossing of biting vinegar and sweet ketchup. Kudos to these fine folks for bringing a great style of barbecue to life here in the Lone Star state. Sometimes we get a little too caught up in our briskets and hot links to appreciate a well done version of another style. read more

We too had an experience with buying ribs that had gone rancid. We ordered them to bring home on a Saturday night. The first bite I took didn't taste right. I looked over at my husband and asked him if he thought they were bad. He agreed something was very wrong. He called and we took them back and brought brisket home. It was just ok. At least it wasn't rancid. They told my husband they smoke the ribs every Sunday for the week. What!? No wonder. How is that within health department guidelines? read more

Just ordered and picked up takeout order. Not up to usual standards!!! Ribs were ICE COLD! Actually must have come out of fridge! Dry and NO flavor! Had to add season salt! Unacceptable! Pulled pork actually just crap edge pieces all chopped together, not much actual meat there. Brisket VERY dry! We used to love this place, but will no longer recommend! Not the experience I was hoping for. This is not Barbecue! This is oven baked flavorless meat! I picked brisket and ribs. When I got home with this crap. The smell of the spoiled ribs came out. Yes SPOILED RIBS ! The brisket has no flavor. No smoke flavor no seasoning at all. Then that sauce they give you. What is that? Sweet and sour for the ribs come on. I did call to let them know that my ribs where spoiled . They did offer me my money back. I did return to retrieve it. I also banged the spoiled ribs. The very nice lady ask if I was sure and did I put that lol nasty sauce on them and that it would be better that away. After she opened the bag it hit her. The beans are just weird. I know people try to put a twist on things but they managed to come up with this crap. Potato Salad was dry. How do you even do that?
