Boston Exterior Remodeling is as good as it gets. When the city inspector came to sign off on our…read moreproject, he told us: "I was a contractor for 20 years before becoming an inspector, and you don't see superb work like this anymore. You are very fortunate." We could not agree more. BER transformed our 130-year-old home with extraordinary skill and care. They stripped the old shingles and clapboards, applied multiple layers of protective barrier to the original walls, and installed new state-of-the-art composite clapboards and cedar shingles. The bottom course of shingles was individually notched to replicate the original detail, and the dentil molding was reconstructed by hand. The team also completely rebuilt our bays in PVC that, once painted, is indistinguishable from wood. Every line, corner, and transition is precise. They worked through extraordinary conditions--from 10-degree winter days to 100-degree summer heat--without ever compromising their focus, craftsmanship, or attention to detail. Joe Danz oversaw the project closely from start to finish. He communicated warmly and consistently with the three homeowners in our building, accommodated additional requests fairly, and remained committed to the work until every detail was right. Our neighbors--including two architects--stopped to admire the workmanship as the project progressed. Our home has been restored to its original beauty with durable materials and craftsmanship that should last far beyond the current owners. We are deeply grateful to Joe and his outstanding team at Boston Exterior Remodeling. They exceeded our expectations in every way.

I live on the water in Scituate and, as such, have a constant queue of maintenance to take care of.... every year. I can't count the number of times that I have reached out to the neighborhood and friends for another recommendation for a contractor, painter, handyman, etc. In and around our community, at least, many of these people are busy, temporary, unreliable, or do not do quality work. I found Dave via a trusted recommendation. I needed to fix a wall "now," or else a replacement window would not be able to go in. This was a several-day job ... not trivial handyman work. Dave and his team scoped out the job and make it happen within on week of initial contact. It was fast and efficient and he was never late. Everything happened exactly when he said it would. He would text me ahead of time with questions or indications of time of arrival. So refreshing! The work was done, perfectly. Dave and his team even made it a point of being present when the Anderson window installers were there, just in case they had any questions or issues with his work.... so there would be no issues. The window went in. There were none. Well, I was so impressed with the first job that we started discussing the rest of my maintenance needs for the spring. Once again, Dave surprised me. He (a) considered what my stated needs were, he (b) offered other suggestions for related needed near and long term work (some of what I knew and some other legitimate ones I was unaware of), and he worked to (c) provide multiple price and scope and bundling options for what work would be done and how it could be done ... so that my available budget for maintenance could be most effectively used. Dave is proactive but not pushy, he is very easy to work with, and the work looks great. I actually feel a little less stressed knowing that I can call on him as needed and that things will promptly get taken care of and done right. And for the items he doesn't do himself, I have already experienced his ability to pull in other excellent, qualified people as needed, and make sure the job is done right, on time, and on projected budget.

There were some things that hadn't been addressed in a while, including the extremely old (i.e. very drafty!) door from the house to the mudroom/enclosed porch. We got a quote from a national brand and then decided to shop around. I'm so glad we did! Chris was able to provide a quote on the mudroom door AND outside door that was less than the national company for just one door, and suggested some modifications that have made a huge difference! When it comes to the work, it was absolutely professional from start to finish. Chris was great about scheduling and we were never blindsided by unexpected costs - he was upfront the whole time and honest. The actual work itself was A+ quality. He clearly cares about his craftsmanship and it shows in the work. The doors look great and I can already tell a difference (my heating bills will too in the winter!). He and his assistant were also great about clean-up. I would recommend (and have!) Chris to everyone I know. And I definitely plan to have him back for other projects.

It was a small project and we had had a difficult time finding someone to take it on. We were incredibly lucky to find Christopher at just the right time. We reached out to him on a Wednesday afternoon and the timing worked out that he came by the very next day, gave us a very reasonable quote, and was able to start the work on Friday, and complete it on Saturday. His communication was excellent, and he was very straightforward about the whole process. He let us know exactly what he was going to do and checked in throughout the work to be sure it was what we wanted. He's a trustworthy guy, as well as just a very nice person to work with. We couldn't be happier about the work - he did a fast, thorough, and phenomenal job, and was kind enough to offer us advice and pointers on the painting (still upcoming!) that would need to be done after the construction. I strongly recommend Christopher - you won't be disappointed.

Along the way, ther were multiple little examples of Jermaine going above and beyond to make sure something was done right for the long term. But once we had paid a retainer and had them working on a quote for the rebuild of a historical deck, they were unresponsive and communication was non existent. We hand-held them through the application process but they didn't listen to our explanation. The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par.
