I ordered a burger from here for the first time in years this past weekend. I walked in shortly after they opened, a female worker made eye contact with me, I said, "hello, how are you?" She didn't respond and then cut in front of me to put ketchup on a table. I had to order from a kiosk (which I never mind) but two other workers were standing behind the register doing nothing. I've had other locations of way back and the food is fantastic, always a good burger. However, this location has some of the worst service I have ever seen. Walked in and immediately one of the workers tells me it's a 30-45 minute wait and I'm like okay whatever maybe they are slammed. I was hesitant to eat at this place, both from personal experience and the reviews as of late. However, my husband had been eyeing that Nashville hot chicken sandwich and I agreed to give it a try. When we walked in, there was no one in the place. The employee (a young man) was super friendly. We ordered 4 sandwiches and 2 fries. I was worried about how long it would take because past experiences took forever to get food, but not this time. They started making the food right away, fresh, and made to order. I don't think it took more than ten minutes. Perfectly accurate order, very good food. I know that businesses have their ebbs and flows just like anything else and I'm willing to give any place a shot as long as they're friendly and the food is good. Also, the place was very clean. I walked up and said, "This is my first time here. Impress me." I ordered the Classic, no pickles, grilled onions/mushrooms and pepper Jack cheese. I couldn't wait until I got home. With Samuel L. Jackson in mind I said aloud, "Mmm. This is a tasty burger." I talked to the owner and asked how the business had been doing since Covid19 hit and he said they've been really good. If I could rate them a zero, I would. I have been about a once week regular customer for a while. The service has always been bad, but at least the burgers were well done. Usually when you go to place an order, they ignore you for a while and then get around to taking your order. Today I went in, waited ai the counter, ignored, ignored, ignored, and finally the lady said, "I'll be with you when I can." Ok nothing new. People have come in, waited and left. After standing there for 20 minutes, I ask if I can place my order so I can sit down. Then they let me know if I order now it will be at least 45 minutes before my order will ready. This was by far the worst customer service I've experienced . I ordered to go tenders and o'fries with a lemonade. When I went in to pick it up they handed me the cup and I went to fill it up. As I filled it I noticed a hole, so I went to the counter and said "the cup y'all gave me has a hole in it, can I have another one" and the employee responded "I didn't give you a cup. Did you see me hand you anything." And I said "no, but someone gave me a cup that has a hole in it" and he handed me another cup. During a recent visit (11.30.2020) to Wayback burgers, In Wadsworth ,Ohio I ordered for eat in dinning. The two workers behind the counter were very busy. The wait was at least 15 min including the time it took for me to eat my food I was there for 30 min. At no time did they wipe any surface down, the restaurant was very busy. They were not going to be able to wipe down while they were busy. The management is negligent not providing enough staff to keep the location safe. They have at least 10 people working in the kitchen and they are still super slow. One person at the register who always seems to be new and needing help. They are no longer considered a new restaurant to me. Food is decent but extremely over priced for BURGERS. I mean come on. I spent as mush as I would at a sit down restaurant and it is not worth that. There was only one other family there and it took 15 or more minutes to get my food after waiting 10 minutes for them to take my order. I'm done visiting this place. It's a very bad franchise of a very good chain. Wayback Burgers (formerly Jake's Wayback Burgers) has about 200 independently-owned locations. Owners have to agree in writing to follow the recipes and standards set by corporate. Not everyone does. I'd give the food four stars-- and everything else one. Both the good and bad reviews seem spot-on I walked in on Friday at 11:59 PM (middle of lunch rush) and got waited on immediately. Picked the Juicy Double Bacon Cheeseburger (no pickles), which cost $8, the O-Fries (mix of rings and fries) for $3 and a Chocolate shake for $5. Asked for a cup so I could get water; they were happy to oblige. My check was $16.79-- so Five Guys / Shake Shack territory. I didn't step away from the counter until 12:07. The payment card reader was malfunctioning, so everything had to be done by hand.. "If we swept it, it'd probably decline your card 4-5 times; it's just quicker to do it this way", the counter guy said. 1. It's a really small cooking area. Not as tiny as Bob's Hamburg in Akron, but close. There were only three people on duty-- one counter, two cooks. 2. I got my shake at 12:21-- 14 minutes later. They're hand-dipped-- very rich and creamy; my straw stood at attention.I didn't get a lot of chocolate flavor from it; I'd probably try vanilla or mocha next time. The John Travolta rule (his assessment of the $5 Milkshake in PULP FICTION) applied. Not sure it was worth it, but pretty good. Took a while to get there. Also, I was asked if I wanted whipped cream. I said yes, but didn't get it, 3. My burger and sides arrived at 12:30-- 23 minutes later. The sides were hot; the burger cold. 4. The burger was good-- very juicy-- but had some minor flaws: A. The bun to meat ratio was off. Very big bun; overwhelmed the two 4-oz patties. Also not toasted, so it stuck to the burger and was soggy in spots. B. The bacon wasn't crispy,. It needs to be. Maybe it got pulled off early because they were in a hurry. C. It was dressed with a ton of mustard and ketchup (both Heinz)-- to the point where it (plus the amount of bun) overwhelmed the meat. A lighter hand would do it... or, since they have mustard and ketchup tableside, maybe just hold it and dress the bun yourself. The meat was juicy; I needed two napkins. The leaf lettuce, sliced red tomato and sweet onion rings (not cooked) were all delicious. I think it needed a little salt and pepper; I didn't add any because there were no shakers at the table. (More on this in a minute.) 5. I didn't take advantage of it (next time I would) but you can build a custom sandwich-- one or two patties (or chicken or veggie), choice of cheese, toppings and sauces. 6. The rings were a little overcooked,-- my guess is because the oil needed to be changed. They were REALLY good. Unlike the typical breading-- which shatters and flakes when you bite it-- this shell stayed whole. I really enjoyed the 3-4 large ones I got. (You're supposed to get dipping sauce. They omitted that too.) 7. The fries weren't as good as the rings- but we're talking 3.5 stars compared to 4. They're thick cut and natural (some peel) and very tasty. There were so many I couldn't finish them; when I asked for a bag, it was happily provided. 8. Because there were ridiculously understaffed, the eat-in experience was awful. There were two jugs of ketchup and and one mustard-- but no salt and pepper, no malt vinegar and the napkin container was half-full. Customers had to go from table to table, hunting for condiments. My table was sticky; it hadn't been wiped down. The one across from me hadn't been bussed; debris from the last meal was there when I arrived and still there when I left at 1 PM. The bathroom had a broken soap dispenser (they had to put a jug on the sink), paper (wet TP and towels) on the floor and no towels in the dispenser. (Health code issue.) If I were a family guy or a yuppie, the bathrooms would have sunk it for me. The place looks dirty. A McDonald's franchisee would get reamed for having his location look this bad. 9. Service was eager to please. They were understaffed. All three had either long hair or facial hair; two had piercings or tattoos. Not a capital crime in my book-- but a soccer mom would run screaming. It doesn't look like a family place. When you're waiting 20+ minutes for food, this is an even bigger problem. 10. I'm gonna guess I got more effort than most customers, because I mentioned to the counter guys when I was ordering that a friend of mine had said the food was better than Five Guys or Shake Shack, so I had driven from Cleveland to south of Akron. (It might explain the heavy hand with the condiments-- many people think more is better) They asked how I liked it (I said the food was good-- which it was), and they told me a new location was opening soon in Broadview Heights (Cleveland burb) in July. I would go THERE to have another meal. I'd give the chain another shot. But I wouldn't come back HERE. read more

Probably better to order ahead with their app. For the same price, you could go to Wendy's and get something terrible. It was my first time going to this place and overall I have mixed feelings. For starters, there were only 2 employees working on a busy Sunday weekend at lunch time. The one line cook was busting his butt to get orders out in a timely manner and the other was taking orders and making shakes. I could see that tensions were high and they were stressed because there were a good amount of customers in there, but the one larger man taking the orders was extremely rude. He was turning customers away by telling them it was going to take over a half hour to get their food to them when in reality it probably wouldn't have been any longer than 15-20 minutes. He was very short, and clearly didn't want to be there. It might the environment awkward and unpleasant as I was sitting there waiting on my food. Now, when it comes to the actual food it was delicious! I did a build your own burger and got a side of fries and a shake. The shake came out first and it looked like chocolate milk. The one employee, who was being rude, said that he "forgot about your shake" after he made it so basically it all melted. He remade it for me with ease. The burger and fries were great though! I keep getting "guilt tripped" by Yelp about how COVID is going on so we shouldn't give bad reviews. So the last 2 times I didn't leave reviews. But now it's 3 times in a row my order has been wrong and entire parts of the order are just excluded when delivered. The only saving grace is the food is good! I have no complaints about the food. But I'm tired of spending all this money on food I'm not even getting! The ticket is in the bag with my food when it's delivered, clearly showing what I ordered, but there's always something missing. Burgers ARE good but there's too many drawbacks. First - the price point is way higher than comparable restaurants. Second- it's a very slow process getting your food. If you order to go, you have to stand around a long time. If you dine in, it's greasy and uncomfortable (heat/ac is off) cheap tables and chairs. And then the staff- it's always changing. I have tried Jake's Wayback Burgers twice now and both times had the same result - over priced and nothing special. When spending almost $40 on a burger, cheese fries and two shakes for two people you would expect everything to taste superior to fast food for that price or else you could just get any fast food and call it a day (and save your wallet) There was a wait to order both times, which isn't minded for good food but the wait is lengthy. The burgers did taste juicy and better than fast food burgers, but not so much that it is worth the price or comparable to a nice restaurant. The cheese fries were horrible. Think dry fries with shredded bagged cheese on them resulting in a crunchy, plastic taste. The shakes were good, but Steak and Shake or Dairy Queen is better. I decided to give it a try twice in case the first time was just a fluke, but nope, both times resulted in me saying I paid that much money for that!? read more
