Went in to try a burger. Never been to Wayback burgers before. On posters said you could get a free milkshake if you ordered a burger. I asked the guy at the register, who had no clue. Got the manager, who told me I had to scan and download app and sign up for text msgs etc etc. Ok. Did all that and then put my order in. Did not work for premium shakes, so I had to switch to a regular flavor (vanilla, strawberry etc). Received a code, which I plugged into my order and was expecting to see the price drop. There's so many bad reviews for this particular location, but I've never had a problem! I've been in here a few times, being as as I live around the corner and every person at the register that I've dealt with has been super friendly and gotten my order correct every time. They've even gone out of their way to grab me things (extra sauces, cups, etc.) I'd say the customer service is good, and I mean come on, it's a fast food joint full of mostly teen/underage kids who are probably working their first job, not a five star steakhouse. Realistic expectations, people! As for the food, Jake's is your typical fast food burger: I'd put it a few notches above a McDonald's or Burger King, but under a Five Guys. Regular mobile customer here.....Franchise owner really needs to get involved. Location seems to have supply issues. The only thing consistent with my last two visits was the disappointment. Last night they ran out of Macaroni bites, on my previous visit they had no bags. ..... the food last night was inedible. Cook needs to scrape the grill occasionally. This review is not about food quality. July 6, 2022, I ordered 2 sandwiches and a strawberry shake and paid for it online to be picked up at Thorndale, PA store. I went into the restaurant and asked for my order. The assistant manager told me they didn't have any Shakes. I told her I already paid for the complete order online. She then told me that there wasn't any way to see the order, because their system was down and they could not obtain WIFI. So I asked for a refund. She told me that there was no way to give a refund back, because they couldn't see the order. I showed her the order from my phone. But she then said since their registers/system couldn't see, so NO REFUND. I asked for her to call the manager or owner. She tried calling the "so-called" manager on her cell phone but wasn't able to get anyone to answer and she said the mailbox was Full. I went home to see if I can cancel or get a refund online, but Wayback website there wasn't anyway. I tried to call another store, but the same thing happen asking me to leave a message and was told "The Mailbox is Full". July 7, 2022. So I decided to go back to Wayback in Thorndale and figured if they can't give me a refund, then give me the original order. So I parked in front of the store at 3:30 pm and found out the STORE WAS CLOSED!! I called several other Wayback restaurants and 2 out of the 3 no one was answering! I finally called the one in West Grove PA and the manager told me he was surprised that the Thorndale location was Closed. Blah. I can see why most of the Jake's have closed around me. The fries might be the single worst fries I have ever eaten. Bland and cold even though the place was busy when I went in. The burgers were fine. I.e. Not terrible. There are lots of add one to choose from. I got bacon and fries onions. I think I got 1 piece of bacon and 4 tiny squares of onion. The burger had good taste though. The kids chicken fingers were fine. The grilled chicken buffalo sandwich was decent although you couldn't tell there was any buffalo sauce in it. In my opinion. Not sure why Yelp lists "drive thru" as a service for this restaurant but there is definitely not a drive thru service there. This place absolutely sucks! There is ALWAYS a problem with my order. I'm all for giving second or third chances but this place has used all 3 strikes. I will NEVER go to this restaurant again. Three times I've ordered online and three times I was screwed (1 - burger was wrong 2- missing item 3 - burger was wrong). Instead, I heard what the customers who were waiting in line were ordering. About a minute later, the cashier took my order. "In about 10 minutes" concluded the conversation. The time was fine, I was driving in from dropping off lunch for my wife. I arrived there 20 Minutes from the initial call for the order and it was just brought up, bagged and ready to go. The food would have otherwise sat under a heat lamp until I arrived. The place was not too crowded but I can imagine the lunch crowd being a challenge; for two reasons: delicious cooked to order food and being the new kid on the block. Overall, this place is our new burger place! While I do not suggest ordering cheese fries to go because the cheese gets hard (they don't use the processed stuff! It's actual shredded cheddar cheese!). This puts 5 Guys burgers to shame and the local fast food places cant even compete with these guys. We used to really like this place. We went in for dinner and the air conditioning was not working. We asked and were told it hadn't worked in a long time. They only provided the workers fans after one had passed out. The restaurant could use some fixing up. The cabinet the soda machine was on was water damaged and the counter top was sagging. The burgers were under cooked. The fries weren't crispy. It seems as though the owner doesn't care about the business. What a shame! When it first opened it was so good. Either way, as we say "nothing spoil". I had the bacon cheese burger. Smalls fries. What surprised me was that the burgers are all double patties. I am not a burger/meat eater like that. I have tried ordering a variety of items from this Wayback location over several months. With each order, there is always some issue: usually either an item missing, or not cooked properly. Today I ordered (via DoorDash) a bacon cheeseburger with fries and ranch dipping sauce. The fries were burnt to the point of being almost inedible, and there was no dipping sauce included. The burger was prepared as ordered, but tasted no better than any other fast food burger. Condiments are the item most often missing, although I've had ingredients/toppings left off sandwiches in prior orders. Hey! This place was better than I expected. It seems to be modeled on a Five Guys type experience - small menu with burgers made to order, some hot dogs, shakes, and whatnot. The burger was pretty good - fairly juicy, tender beef, toasted bun. It's not as good as Five Guys, which is a gold standard in my book, but it is better than anything you would get at TGIChiliBees. It's definitely great for us in the Thorndale area, if I don't want to make the haul down trafficky 30 bypass to Exton for a Five Guys, I will no doubt hit up Jake's to satisfy the craving. The service was horrible. Waited 30 minutes to walk out of there with a refund that will take 3-5 days to process and empty stomachs. The staff was rude and had no clue what was even going on. If you can't work at a burger joint, how are you going to work in the real world? The restaurant was so dirty and employees were standing around when cleaning should have been done. The real kicker is that the employee on the grill was hiding old, stale patties behind a tin and reheating them for customers. I also witness employees touching food with no gloves. We placed our order at 1241. Zoe took our order and she was very friendly, and very careful to get the orders correct. Sat down to wait for our to-go order. Went to the ladies room, there was no toilet paper. So I went to the front to let them know. The older woman there sighed, rolled her eyes and acted like I was annoying her by mentioning it. She sent a guy in with a roll of paper towels. Not toilet paper. I know I said toilet paper, because I leaned in so I didn't have to say it so loud. Same woman walked around with a scowl on her face the entire time we were there. Apparently they ran out of soda. Another employee walked in carrying 2 litter bottles of soda. They were placed out for customers to help themselves. Glad we didn't buy a soda. Time is now 1:01, still no food or milkshakes. 1:08, food is ready. Still no milkshakes. Now waiting for our milkshakes, food is getting cold. Over 40 minutes. Get home, none of the burgers are marked. Have to open each one and see what's on it.
