Wayback is always consistent and delicious. I especially love that the staff is so good about requests. I like to have my Chicken Sandwich, not on a bun, but wrapped in a huge piece of lettuce and they serve that so nicely, with no problems. Went today to get some food before a movie. Ordered chicken fingers and fries. When they finally came out, after asking where our food was 20 minutes later, the chicken was inedible from being forgotten about in the fryer. We ate our fries, and attempted the chicken. Brought the food to the counter to say something, and the guy took it out of my hands, said nothing, trashed it and walked away. This was their second chance, and they failed. This place is a total spoof of the Five Guys/ In-and-Out model. But don't let that stop you. The food is good here and it's cooked fresh. The burgers are a thicker than your normal "smash burger" which I like. When you first walk in and look at their menu you can get a little overwhelmed because they have a great menu selection of burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheese steak sandwiches, etc. Their sides are just as amazing mac and cheese bites, house made chips, chili, plus more. I ordered their Cheesy burger which was a double burger with four, four slices of cheese between and inverted grilled bun brushed with butter and it was the most delicious burger I have eaten in a long time plus a side of plain fries. If the store doesn't close until 8 why are you locking the doors 10 minutes early? manager came out and said we lock doors at 7:50. Zero stars. We went into this restaurant because we heard how good the burgers were. I guess we will never know since we stood there for 10 minutes at the counter while the guy working was taking a phone order and never acknowledged us. The other ladies cooking burgers were standing there and saw us but never said "it will be one minute" (it was ten at this point) or jumped behind the register and took our order. This was after we waited across the parking lot at Perkins and left since no one could seat us since I guess the hostess was busy and the servers aren't allowed to? The over cooking drys them out, but the toppings are fresh and add a little juice. The bun is standard, but sturdy enough to hold the burger without falling apart. The fries are fresh, crisp and hot, although they are frozen. The onion rings are real onions, not chopped and molded, with a crispy slightly sweet coating, actually pretty good. The milkshakes are ok but not the old school handmade drugstore variety, even though they are served in a silver beaker. Overall Jakes is a step up from Wendy's, and in a totally different class than McDonalds or Burger King. It's still fast food, but at least it's made fresh and served hot. read more

I think I'm fairly spoiled for burgers. Jake's doesn't hold a candle to the Five Guys or the Shake Shacks of the world, but it's an unpretentious, clean, inviting little place which does what it does pretty well. My first thought was that the burgers were oddly reminiscent of McDonald's - that's not necessarily perjorative, everyone knows McD's is the devil but I'll happily go there once in a while. It provides useful perspective - the Double Bacon Jake especially is basically an upscale Big Mac with bacon on it. It's tasty stuff but nothing mindblowing. I thought at first that it was a little overpriced (~$15 for two burgers + onion rings) but that's basically what you'd pay at McDonald's for the same kind of thing, so... yeah. If you want junk food, you can search around and do a lot better but you can also very easily do a lot worse.
