Stopped in on a Friday night. We were headed to Union (which is right next door) but decided to try this place instead -- and I'm really glad we did. It was spacious, with indoor and outdoor seating. Despite it being a Friday night, it was neither overcrowded nor unreasonably loud. They had about 12 house beers on tap; I had a flight of four, and they were all decent. The only downside: Parking is limited, and can be a little tricky. But even so, it's a great space for groups or even just a date, and I could easily see myself coming back. read more

Waverly is a nice little brewing company in Hampden right around the corner from Artifact Coffee. I've been here twice so far and like it! The first time, I ordered a flight with a friend and we liked our beers. I went again two nights ago and ordered their Thanksgiving brew and also enjoyed it! My boyfriend ordered the "Ain't That Right, Boo?" I tried it and I liked that beer more than that I ordered. On Friday, they had a Honey Cider guest tap which was AMAZING! I tried a friends and wished that I ordered it. Waverly has a nice selection of beer and merch, and their beers always have very unique names. Outside of the brewery, they have corn hole for those who want to get some fresh air. I really enjoy Hampden and always look forward to when I get to go to this part of Baltimore. Waverly Brewing is located in the section of Hampden down by the river and light rail station. I hadn't realized how cozy that part of the neighborhood was getting until we stopped down there to look for Waverly. We parked near on of the city's hot restaurants, crossed the light rail tracks, stopped at a large craft brewery's taproom, and on our way to a barbecue joint stumbled upon Waverly Brewing before we got there. Nestled in the shadow of the Jones Falls Expressway (some might say on the bank of the Jones Falls River,) this unassuming place would not be noticeable as a brewery if it were not for all the people outside drinking beer at picnic tables, playing games and hitting a nearby food truck. The long bar is inside, with many seating options stretching into the next room. The decorating is relaxed and eclectic, as are the seats. There are long tables, small tables, stools along the sideboard, and even a single booth. The beer is interesting, although it is hard to discern a house style given that they seem to have at least one guest draft at any given time. At least they don't solely have IPAs like some craft breweries. I was mostly impressed by the attentive and efficient bartenders working there who managed to serve everyone quickly on a busy, crowded day. Anytime you get a high-five from a bearded employee when you walk into a brewery on a Wednesday evening, you know you've made it to a fun spot! Waverly may be in the shadow of I-83 and is literally a stone's throw from canned beer favorite Union Craft Brewing, but they stand on their own for a cool venue and quality brews. Ginger was on full display in both a porter and pale ale when I visited in fall and I was pleased to see slips of paper to order a four pour flight. An oyster stout on nitro pour is always a good decision too. While the bar seating is limited, there are more high top chairs inside to accommodate 20 additional guests and some space outside with cornhole boards. The atmosphere reminded me of the Veil in Richmond. Nice addition to the options in Baltimore and is true to form with the Hampden style. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Honestly is was a little hard to find, sits back a little. Parked across the street and walked over. They have a lot of room here and I like that have a place for food vendors outside. They rotate food vendors, today was Snake Hill. I can't wait to go to their storefront after the grub they served. The beer was really perfect and refreshing. The bar was nice and easy to order if with all the seats full. The taproom is really spacing with lots of creative seating and awesome decor. The outside is also very nice with a lot of picnic tables and chairs. read more

We decided to swing in here before dinner on a Saturday afternoon. Union Brewery across the street was packed, elbows to a-holes so that was another reason we thought we would swing in here. The brewery was actually quite difficult to locate. We found the best place to park was under 83 down a little bit from the brewery and walk up. Once we arrived and went inside, we were greeted with a space that was warm and inviting. It was also quite larger than I first thought as it extends into two other rooms, one with couches and tables and the other with a high top in the brewing area. Additionally, we learned that Clementines was serving food there that day...bonus. Love Clementines. We sat at the bar and we just ordered samples of everything. 4 at time. The beers were OK, but nothing that knocked your socks off. I think my favorites were the English IPA and the Shoo-Fly. The O'Bay wasn't a bad beer either. The bartenders were nice enough and attentive. One of the best parts of this place is having Clementines there. We ordered some lunch which included the mac and cheese, awesome, chili dog and the chicken brat. All super delicious. Overall we had a good experience here and I would definitely come back. But the beers are nothing to go out of your way for. read more

This delightful little gem is a welcome addition to the Hampden and Woodberry area. It's a little, shall we say, rustic or maybe lumberjack style. A large wooden bar, huge high top communal tables and even some taxidermy heads on the wall. I stopped in for a friend's birthday party, where they had reserved a large high top table in the back where they do the brewing. They even left us this helpful sign. Despite that this is a brewery, they have some decent wine choices - an El Libre Malbec - which makes it great for my group, who isn't particularly fond of beer. I tend to lean toward wheat, unfiltered, or hefeweizen style beer. They didn't have one tap, so I went for my next favorite thing - a beer with coriander. They call it an American Pale Ale, but it isn't super hoppy, and definitely full of lemon and coriander. And I like it when a place doesn't charge your for a little taste when you are deciding. Just a note - these guys do not serve food, yet, but they have a few caterers that are helping out. I can't wait to head back - and try the Clementine Wheat Beer they have on tap now. read more

Came here a few weeks ago and while the atmosphere is laid back and homey, the beer was very lackluster. I believe the No Kings beer was the best one I had and whichever beer they had for $3 tasted like dishwater and less flavor than your typical light beer. They are still early in their development so I imagine they will improve, but at the moment, don't believe the 5 star reviews as they can't possibly enjoy beer. This place has food options via an outside vendor and parking lot games. read more

The beer selection is solid and has improved since they first opened, for sure. This place was awesome! For my girlfriend's birthday, I coordinated for her friends to meet us here after we had dinner. I wanted to surprise her with a birthday cake, and the bartenders at Waverly hooked me up and let me drop off the cake for safe keeping earlier in the day. The space is really neat- it's got a cool and cozy vibe. The staff was very friendly and the bathrooms were clean. Between us and our friends, we tried many of the beers. We really liked the sours! They were delicious, especially their blueberry one. Overall, a wonderful experience and we hope to drop in again soon! read more

Such a great find. Loved their Golden Sombrero (american blonde ale) so much I didn't try anything else, but my husband enjoyed the several pale ales he had. The vibe is really the best, laid back, nice outdoor area, and cool lodgey-feeling inside. Bonus points for really chill and not pretentious bartenders. I am so happy that baltimore has another brewery in town...... Even if it is literally across the street from the other one. We tried all of the beers except for the honey hibiscus red (tapped out sadly) and they were decent. I wasn't super wowed by any of them but they had a solid IPA so I was happy. The location is in a fairly crowded area. Street parking is scarce so try to uber or wear walking shoes. They do not have food but food trucks come by frequently. Clementine apparently comes often. It is a cool space to chill and shoot the shit with friends. They have happy hour! read more

The only reason I'm giving this place more than 1 star is because the space itself is very well-decorated and comfortable. That being said, I most likely will not be coming back for a second visit. First of all, the beer is not that great. In fact, most of what I tried was pretty mediocre (Jerk Water being the exception). Second, and most importantly, the service was horrible. One bartender was very friendly, however the other was extremely rude and impatient. When I first tried to order a drink I had forgotten the name of the beer I wanted, so he stormed off to help someone else. No big deal really, I know that this is a big pet peeve for some bartenders. What really got to me though was when he decided to very vehemently reprimand a friend of a friend, in the middle of the bar, for being too loud. Now I'm not condoning screaming in the middle of public places (and yes, this person was being somewhat annoying), however there are more professionals ways to handle the situation than to talk down to the person like a child and tell them that they're giving everyone a migraine (his words, not mine). Now all of this most likely would have been forgotten about, however, while we were closing out our tabs and getting ready to leave, the same bartender overheard us joking about the whole situation and decided to come over and defend himself. Again, no big deal, but when he didn't like what we were saying he decided to yell at us to get out of the bar...as we were all leaving anyway. I understand that working directly with customers can sometimes suck, as I've done it for over a decade, however that's not an excuse to be a complete jerk. Do yourself a favor and go to Union instead. read more

Excellent place to belly up on a weekend afternoon in the rain. I had the Tripel MoFo and it was one of the tastiest tripels I've ever had. Great atmosphere, the food truck outside and the DJ combined for a nice overall vibe. They also have board games available if you're there with friends, but it was still a nice place to visit solo. 10/10 would return. read more

I'm a big fan of Waverly - I come very frequently with friends for happy hour, and when I am hosting people, I'll usually take them here and to Union Brewing. I actually prefer Waverly over Union - it's not quite as crowded, they make better use of their outdoor space, and it's got a more intimate feel. I like that they have the couch and space for large groups. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the beer itself, but I'm not much of a beer drinker anyway, so I usually find something suitable and enjoy my time there. Another positive is that they have wine, cider, and homemade soda available for those who want an alternative to beer. read more

I love this place! The outdoor seating is a lot of fun, particularly in the warmer months. It isn't uncommon for Waverly to host outside food vendors on Sunday afternoons - I always look forward to seeing who they bring in to cater. The beer menu is constantly rotating, which makes Waverly Brewing Co. a great spot for adventurous drinkers who love drinking with the season. I've had a few beers that are better than others, but.... overall they've all been pretty great. Plus, they'll let you try as many taps as you want before you order a drink, so there isn't any reason to get stuck with something you don't like. read more

We came here after we heard there was another brew house within walking distance. I'm pretty positive we didn't walk for more than 5 minutes to get from our previous destination. It wasn't too crowded so we were able to find seats which were nice. There was a standing bar in the front and the back had long tables for seating. I was starving and they had a food (snake hill?) vendor selling sausages which smelled amazing. I ended up getting the Rican and Buffalo chicken. We were happy but over all my friend said she liked the Rican better which I agreed. Beer wasn't expensive either which was nice cause it complimented our food. Would definitely go again when they open up the outside for summer. read more

We had a private event in the back room the night before our wedding and the Waverly team did not disappoint! Awesome service, and I was particularly touched when one of the bartenders was kind enough to help us maneuver my 80 year old grandmother's wheelchair out of the back entrance when we were getting ready to leave. What an awesome place, space, with great brews! My husband and I went here back in December and tried the Stout Party, Ocean Man, and Hi, Hon Red as well as Farmy. I liked the Stout Party the best. They have food by Clementine outside to satiate any appetite. I had some loaded tater tots. Parking can be the only slight deterrent, but you can park under the Jones Falls on Clipper Mill Road. So happy to have a local, casual place to gather with friends over a unique and inspiring roster of craft beers. read more

Love the design, layout and decor of this place. Want to give it a 3.5 or 3.75, but at this point the beer is just not great yet. My brother-in-law's home brew kits are as good or better than these. The best offering was a guest tap from a fledgling Dundalk brewery. The beers were mostly very simple lacking any real body or robustness in flavors. Wish I could bring over some growlers from Union bc the space is excellent and surprisingly charming and well thought out. Chorizo tots were really good even though the portion was fairly small. Awesome space with tons of potential, but they desperately need more and better beer. Could be another anchor in the community if that happens read more

Beautiful place, Fantastic beer selection. Absolutely loved the Oyster stout. They even had a lighter lager called the Batty Noh for my cousin Ricky who doesn't really dig strong brews. He was also able to order a Luigi's Turkey sandwich from their food menu and some beef jerky to chew on! The bartenders are easy to talk to and have great taste in rock and roll music.
