(I will note however, the woman who hosted at the door, assuming possibly the owner, was the sweetest woman in the world. So inviting and kind, she was the bet part of the night) FOOD: hmm... We started with the pork dumplings Which truly were good. The pork was very flavorful and packed with seasoning that made It memorable. I ordered the vegetable stir fry with alterations, adding chicken and vegetables. The chicken was less than, I found it very fatty and chewy, nervous I might get some kind of food bacteria from it because of its state. The vegetables were good, but they're simply vegetables. My mom got the green vegetable and chicken curry which she liked, it has a very intense flavor but you have to like curry to get it, the ingredients are soaked in it. She didn't think it to be bad. My dad got the lettuce chicken wraps which he thought was a perfect amount of food. You get a couple leaves of cabbage and a plate of contents to fill them with. Truly, the food wasn't terrible, it just wasn't mind blowing, or what I thought it would be. For me, the rating I give this place hinged more on my service experience ..... SERVICE: you can have great food and poor service and it will completely wreck the place for you. Our waiter was not bad at his job and the way he had to serve, but his attitude surely rubbed me the wrong way. Were we probably dressed a little too casual? Surely. But I felt pretty insignificant in his eyes, getting a very condescending vibe that turned me off to the place completely. If you are dropping $100+ at a restaurant and that's how they treat you, go somewhere else. Excuse my rant, I simply don't like feeling undermined and being disrespected. Literally one of my favorite places to eat, and I eat out a lot! It's a little more expensive than we typically spend for a weeknight meal ($15-20/plate), but SO justified because the quality is off the charts. My husband had a negative attitude the first time he tried it, but left singing it's praises saying, "we have to come back here and bring friends". I can see where someone might think Wave is pricey - and for dinner I'm sure it's easily double what lunch prices are - but for lunch the price is right. $8.50 per person (including 2 people splitting 2 meals and 2 orders of sweet rolls). Decor is mellow, with accents continuing on the theme of the name throughout the space. It's a calming atmosphere... somewhere you could sneak into and spend the afternoon eating oneself into a blissful food coma. Soft easy listening piano versions of popular 90's songs drifted out over the stereo, fellow diners were all over 60, this is a casual spot for lunch. Not busy, not stressful, a nice escape. If only there wasn't a giant orange Home Depot sign outside the window, the illusion would have been complete. I'm not big on sweets (fried rolls with almond butter) but I can't argue with the fact that they were delicious. Maybe next time I'll skip the rolls and have a fancy dessert instead. Lunch orders come with your choice of soup or salad, luckily I opted for the hot & sour soup and enjoyed it a great deal. There's really only one other place in town I've really liked the h&s soup before trying it here. We split the chicken fried rice and pad Thai. Fried rice is, I think, easy to mess up. No such troubles here. Not too greasy, not too dry, nice tender chunks of chicken mixed in with bits of carrot, onion and peas. We also ordered it with a spicy level of 5 - just right for fried rice. I typically like my pad Thai a little more 'saucy', so while it was good I probably wouldn't get it again. I did see a crispy chicken dish being delivered to the table next to us that I'll have to try and remember to get next time. Connie (the owner) and our waitress were both exceptionally friendly. I loved the feeling of being welcomed into a restaurant as a valued guest as opposed to just 'someone to deal with until they eat and get out'. This was great Thai food! I like that they took the time to put linen on the tables, it really makes a difference. Definitely a good mid price-point place for date night. Unfortunately I was dining alone and that experience left a little to be desired. They have a bar with chairs, but after sitting down, I got the impression they are not used to people actually sitting there. There was noticeable shock and I was twice asked if I was staying to eat. I think they should probably do away with the bar seating because behind the bar is really kind of their work station (not for food prep, but just organizing, bar-tending, and general management type interactions) so as a diner, you see a little more of the frantic behind the scenes interaction than they'd probably like. A little uncomfortable for having to eat alone at the bar. But the food was really good, so next time I'll just ask for a table for one. I had the pad thai and loved it! Out of the 5 or 6 times I've done here, the food has always been decent. Not wow enough to be a destination restaurant for me. The challenge I've had is that every experience here has resulted in food poisoning for either me or a member of my party. Food tasted o.k. going down, not so much coming back up. I have come at lunch and enjoyed their hot and sour soup, and maybe would wait for a staff member to greet me, but when they do, I always feel welcome and it is obvious that it is MY NEEDS that take priority when wanting to enjoy a 5 star meal at a practical price. Whenever I visit my sister and brother-in-law in Omaha, we always get in at least one special meal at Wave Bistro. It's their favorite restaurant and mine. Tonight there were eight people in our party, and I noticed for the first time the special talent of the server, James. He took everyone's order from drinks to appetizer to main dish, and including steamed or fried rice, without writing anything down. Then he served us without fanfare, matching every single dish to the person who ordered it. The food at Wave Bistro is delicious. (My sister and I especially like the cashew crusted salmon.) The food is so wonderful. We have never had a bad dish. Cashew crusted salon had asparagus under it then rice, had the sauce all around the plate - presentation is beautiful. Salon was cooked perfectly. Had Thai basil chicken also. That had a great crust roping and sauce that offered great flavor without spicy flavor. Had a * by it. But wasn't spicy. Also had crab cakes - perfect and great buttery sauce. Spring rolls were fried and cut in half, they are okay but I don't think I will get them again. Lyncee martini was delish.
