    Hot Food

This is a tough one. I appreciate a good buffet like any glutton, but the food and service here at Asian Buffet could use a lot of work. Most buffets, especially Chinese ones are less likely to make either a priority, but typically the food quantity, group friendly atmosphere, and affordable prices tend trump all. That seems to be the case here at the literal-termed Asian Buffet. Sadly, a buffet is usually only as good as its food. I realize most buffets like this aren't gunning for high quality anything, but it was difficult to appreciate much of the hot food fare because so much of it was either too salty, too overcooked, or something was off. Much of this is standard Americanized Chinese fare, which works well I suppose for this neck of the woods, but would be subject to doomsday in any major Asian community. I would also venture for them to stop calling their noodle soup "pho" when it's clearly just a noodle soup with broth. The sushi was definitely the least appealing of the bunch. There were a number of rolls out there, not so much on the nigiri side or handroll action, but they were all strange in design and funky to the core. A lot of imitation crab and such, but this is nothing new for places like this. I think the only semi-saving grace on a food scale was the hibachi. Customize one's (semi-frozen) meats with noodles / rice, peppers, with a smattering of soy sauce. sesame oil, and veggies was surprisingly okay. Every table has sriracha bottles and the plastic cups are the oversized ones that hold a ton of liquid. I can appreciate their setup and layout, but I've seen better execution on the food front in other similarly themed places. Fingers crossed they bump it up a notch.

If you're familiar with the Grand China Buffet in Omaha off of Dodge and 118th, then Asian Buffet will be no different for you. Same owners and host Simon, who has traveled to the new Lincoln store to help with the opening for a while. As you can see, I have frequented the Omaha location pretty frequently... I can recognize Simon! (The Asian parents love the all you can eat clams, crab, and crawfish...we end up here a lot) Since a lot of our family and friends from Lincoln would drive all the way to Omaha for the buffet, it's going to be very convenient for all the Asians in Lincoln to now get their seafood fix right in town. At $14/person for adults and $8 for kids, its a pretty good deal to eat all the mussels, crawfish, crab legs, and clams you want. It would cost more than that to buy it from the store and prepare it yourself. As for the other foods there, there is slightly less selection in comparison to the Omaha location, I think mainly due to space constraints. Most all of the American-Chinese favorites are still available. Quick service in clearing plates, having fresh food available at all times, and refilling the crab (most important ;) ). It's a huge step up from the previous asian buffet tenant.

Yummy authentic chinese buffet in Lincoln, NE. We really enjoyed the noodle soup option the restaurant offered (udon & pho)! The soup base was very good as well! In addition to all the choices of delicious dish they offered, the servers and stuff were very friendly. Will return for sure and highly recommend trying this restaurant.

All the food is always steaming hot!

Food was great. They did not honor their own coupons off of their website. Very disappointing and reason enough for me not to return.

They dont have all drinks on the menu and the menu is not updated. They did tell us what was not available but was a generic dont have these and just slid his fingers on the menu. I finally got an iced lemon tea. We initially ordered egg rolls and a hot pot. We ordered spicy soup together with bok choy fungus( wood ear mushrooms) Beef, spam, fishballs and jumbo shrimp and egg noodles with a side of white rice. The soup came with a burner and it wasnt powerful enough to boil the soup on the pot. The pot had no definite style to it. Tasted like soy bean soup with some sichuan peppers. Not excessively spicy and not very flavourful. Our ingredients took a long while to come out- and our egg rolls eventually never came. Practically all the ingredients were frozen with the exception of the fungi and the egg noodles. The sauce station looks thrown together with takeout containers and plenty of sauce. The bbq sauce had part of a spoon which was broken off in the sauce. The sauces are similar to haidilao type just not as fresh. But the chives looked a little greyish. Overall, service is not fantastic. We did remind them multiple times about the egg rolls, but it still didn't ever arrive. They at least took it off the bill. We forgot to check about the missing bakchoy. Not sure we will be back anytime soon. Hubby wasn't quite happy with our dinner last night.

The dining room was nicely lit and spacious. The waiter came around and took our drink and food order. I had a diet Pepsi, it was completely flat, I had to ask for a can instead. We placed our order for egg rolls to start and hot pot. Spicy broth, beef, fishball, fungus, bokchoy, shrimp, egg noodle and a side of white rice. They quickly set up the gas burner for soup and perched the soup pot on top. Then came out the plate of meat and noodle and we were told they are out of bokchoy. EVERYTHING WAS FROZEN SOLID We waited awhile for the soup to boil (needed to properly cook seafood) but it never did. We tasted the soup. It was a little spicy but odd. Couldn't put my finger on it. Then adding all the frozen items even just some at a time the soup never boiled. We let it sit for a while to at least gain some heat before starting to eat. Waiter came. Asked again about rice and egg rolls. The rice came We managed to cook everything and eat. Had to flag down staff to ask for a check Egg rolls never came. But appeared on the bill as well as the bokchoy that I had to ask to be removed from the bill. I hate writing negative reviews but this was needed.

We were seated immediately and our server was very polite and nice. There is a variety of seating available and we got a table with one side being a bench seat and I got a chair. The chair was not very stable and if you leaned back you could fall. I'm quite small, as long as I didn't lean back I was good. The decor looked like a cross between industrial and a pub, not neccessarily a japanese restaurant. The restaurant has a full bar with mixed drinks, red and white wine and beer. There is all you can eat sushi - but we didnt order that as we were not that hungry. Hubby ordered a diet coke and I got japanese jasmine tea. Yamamoto yama tea that came in a nice ceramic pot with a ceramic cup. Drinks came promptly. We ordered age tofu, and fried spring rolls for appetisers. Age tofu was crispy and sauce for it was good. But the age tofu that I'm used to had a much lighter batter which i prefer. The spring rolls were a tad cool to touch- and mushy inside ( feels like something frozen then fried and left there - then lightly refried. ) not made fresh to order. We ordered the Kasumi and Nebraska. Sushi was well wrapped- combination of rice to ingredients ratio was good. Sriracha on sushi was a little odd. Both hubby and I agreed we liked the Nebraska roll a little better than the Kasumi. Condition of the restaurant - could be improved. Service - decent Food - oķ but not great. Might not be back so soon.

The menu is limited but has the typical items served in filipino restaurants--Lumpia, Pancit and Adobo. What caught my eye was that they also have filipino bistek, Filipino-style spaghetti and Dinuguan which is a traditional pork blood stew. I had ordered the Dinuguan with garlic and butter fried rice and a side order of green beans. The green beans had that firm snap and was lightly seasoned. The presentation of the fried rice and Dinuguan was well-done. The fried rice was also lightly seasoned but not heavy. Typically, Dinuguan is made with choice cuts of pork and offals that is stewed in pork's blood. The pork blood coagulates into a thick black gravy smothering the pork. The pork belly was tender with a light vinegary sauce which led me to wonder if they had used any pork blood at all. The dish was very tasty. The good thing about it not being smothered with the gravy is that it makes it lighter than how it is traditionally prepared. Shelby was the server that evening and she was attentive to the guests that were there for an early dinner. I plan to go back to Pinoy Style and maybe, order the one of the Pinoy standards of Adobo or pancit. Definitely curious about their interpretation of Filipino-style spaghetti.
