You know how they say that you don't know who's on your side until things go wrong? Well that sums it up in a nutshell. First Strike: When I didn't agree with his suggestions for treatment (found it too aggressive for my medical history), asked to dial it back a little, and he didn't agree, he become emotionally/harshly argumentative. When I took a deep breath and suggested a neutral 3rd party (second opinion) as a tie breaker, he complied and went along with a happy medium. That was great but a little unnerving that it got to that point with the tone of our discussion. I would have preferred a calm conversation. The Deal Breaker: After multiple days of requesting my medication renewal and their office dropping the ball (Dr. M not making the right note in my file so that the doctor covering could proceed and then once he was back in the office, not following through in a timely fashion), caused me to suffer by going cold turkey off my medication which led to frustration, anger and a lot of pain. If this medical office can't manage this one prescription renewal, after multiple days, then I can't trust them to manage my ongoing medical care which is going to be even more critical as my medical situation evolves. That's a level of negligence that I'm not willing to bet my life on. I'm taking my business/care elsewhere. UPDATE: Today I received a letter in the mail from PAMF announcing Dr. Markovitz's intention to retire. Maybe that explains the decline in service? I've had some serious health concerns that ramped up last year to a pretty scary-critical point. Dr Wells wasn't quite as concerned as I might have hoped and I had to self-refer myself out of PAMF finally to see a good specialist after wasting three months bouncing around the various PAMF offices she sent me to, all the while getting sicker. She's good for basic care but if you have a serious situation or complicated symptoms, it's not a sure bet she'll know what's going on or where to send you. She also doesn't really follow up once you start seeing people outside PAMF, even if your reports are continually sent back her way... so I'm not really seeing the point of keeping her as a PCP.

For two years, I traveled from SF to Los Altos for my appointments because I liked her that much. Dr. Wells always made me comfortable, I never felt rushed, and remembered me every time I saw her. Most of my appointments were routine, but I did have a few conditions come up in that time for which she promptly got second opinions, as well as referred me to specialist. I had no complaints with Dr. Wells, and really wish I could still see her as my primary care doctor!

From the uncomfortable waiting room chairs, to the receptionist who has a horrible garbled accent that is sometimes slurred and incoherent, their receiving practices need some work. I came to Dr. Benner for a problem with my thigh. The first receptionist did a nice enough job handling my paperwork and I waited only 15 minutes to be let into a room. When it came time to get my blood pressure and weight checked, the incoherent nurses aid had me step on a scale and immediately moved the scale past 150 lbs. I'm 5'3" and a healthy size 4 but she somehow guessed I was over 150 lbs. (Maybe she heard the vicious things I was thinking in my head.) Someone in the medical profession should look at my body and my face and tell me how old I am, what I ate last, and my age better than any fortune teller gypsy or Six Flags amusement theme park clown. Not here. I would have gotten a prize if I played that game here. I deserve a stuffed animal for the indignation! Not only did he not even look at my thigh after explaining the odd tingling and numbing sensation he instead suggested I see a therapist for the amount of stress I was going through from my job. I made the mistake of explaining how I was seeing a separate doctor for the dislocated shoulder I suffered a month ago and he couldn't have gotten me out of the office quicker. What my father's health history has anything to do with my new injuries is beyond me. I spent about 10 minutes with him just to cough up a co-pay for the same information I could have gotten from my mother. This man has a horrible bed side manner that rivals that of Cruella Devil. His attitude makes him better suited for a position as a Jr. High vice principal. My father was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia by this physician: he was an active 80 yr old- an otherwise strong, independent & healthy individual with no chronic conditions. He walked into Good Samaritan to be admitted, however, needed to be carried out 10 days later when discharged. This doctor made himself absoulutely unavailable to family despite our daily presence & multiple requests to speak with him. On the third day I located dr. sheptin, introduced myself & stressed my concern for needing to speak with him. Concerns heightened with each day as my father was becoming weaker and clearly sicker. SHEPTIN's direct quote back to me was, " Yes, I know who you are. The reason you havnt been able to reach me is because I have been busy saving lives ! If you think your father is going to die, He's NOT, so . . . is there anything else ?! " Within hours of being discharged, paramedics were needed & he was rushed to San Jose Medical Center. In ER he was diagnosed with four separate conditions that made him a candidate for intensive care- dehydration ( his tongue was black), malnutrition ( lost 20 lbs in 10 days in hospital) glucose of 600 (primary treatment prescribed had been mega steroids) & was sepsis with pnuemonia. Despite incredible care and concern by the staff at S.J. Medical Center my father died. Confirmed by all treating physicians at S.J. Medical Center, these conditions did not originate within a few hours after his discharge. He was clearly a victim of "Bad Medicine", aka, Charles Sheptin .
