I am someone who do not like to visit doctors, and rarely visits one unless I have illness symptoms that are unique to me. I've visited Dr. Grossman four times, three in the last month. Initially, I went in to have a pcp doctor in case of an emergency. I was pleasantly surprised by how much time Dr. Grossman spent to describe to us his role (umbudsman) and get our family's medical history and answer general procedural questions.
Less than a month ago, I came down with the worst flu I've ever experienced, after getting a flu shot in October. As my symptoms have persisted and gotten worse, I decided to go into see Dr. Grossman. At the third visit, I have been having a moderate fever for days, sore throat, chills, and onset of acute muscle pains. He spent at least half of the time telling me my muscale pain was due to my carrying toddler around. On top of that, I was surprised his approach was exactly the same at the third visit as the first, and he has continued to ask me to wait it out. When I asked if we should be testing for other strep (he gave a strep-A test), he was offended and insisted there is only one type of strep. When I pushed him to do more, he prescribed several tests, some of which that have already been done a couple weeks ago with normal results. His attitude was basically, if it's not strep and it's not obvious to me that it's a bacterial infection, there's little I can do. The CDC website on flu viral infections would prove that is plain wrong.
After the series of experiences, my observation is that Dr. Grossman may be an apt doctor, but bias toward the illness going away itself. While I've found the doctor to happy to offer empathetic words, he has not proceeded to diagnose and treat my illness with the same interest and urgency as I'd hope a doctor I visit would. After a month with persistent and worsening symptoms and getting nothing more than a few strep A tests and white blood counts, I still do not know what is causing my illness, and I feel Dr. Grossman has contributed in delaying the diagnosis. read more
