My husband and I have been patients of Adam Paley for decades. He listens during office visits, and prescribes tests and medication as needed, but always gives me the option to go the route of less intervention rather than more. My father was a physician so I know good medical care when I see it, and Dr. Paley provides excellent primary medical care. It is true that calls to the office may not be returned the same day, but if you contact the office through the on-line patient portal, you almost always get a same-day response. As for the complaint that Dr. Paley pushed the COVID vaccine, medical science has shown that the risk of serious complications or death from COVID is astronomically higher than complications or death from the vaccine. He is following medical science and protocols in advocating that a patient reduce risk by getting vaccinated. But the choice is still the patient's. read more

Husband and I tried Dr Paley for our primary care when we moved to San Mateo in 2021. After one video visit with him and one interaction with his office staff we said absolutely not! We found Dr Paley to be the definition of a pompous, God complex doctor. And his staff was beyond rude and unhelpful. This Dr is terrible, I needed a pre-approval for an RX I desperately needed and he refused to do it. I inherited him because my Dr in the same practice retired un-benouced to me. Do not use this office or this doctor. Today, I accidentally hit my head on the wall. I feel fine, but wanted his medical advice just to be sure. Called the office, no answer, but left a message. Three hours later no return call, even though I explained that it was an emergency. Called the office, lady says he's left for the day, it's 3:00 pm. I said I really needed to talk to him, she said she'd check the messages. Came back and said she didn't get it and who did I talk to. If I talked to someone, I wouldn't need to leave a message, right? Such BS. Then she tells me to email him or go to a clinic. That was the last straw. He doesn't care about me. He's never seen me in person, just the very first time I went there, and that was almost 2 years ago. He doesn't follow up with you on your chronic illnesses to at least do blood work now and then. Dr. Maldonado is also a joke. If you read all the reviews, there's more negative than positive, so that should tell you something. Also, he is very adamant that you get the Covid vaccine.. should've known better. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! This is hands down the worst doctors office with the worst, most unqualified medical "professionals" I have ever encountered. Some context, I have been going to this office since I was kid ... and this is the last straw for me. Over the years, they have ignored my mom's broken rib and said it was nothing, ignored her skin cancer and said it was nothing, prescribed me cream that was banned nationwide in the 70s, misdiagnosed me, and just today, gave me a prescription with FOUR pills in it. This is an ongoing medication for a chronic condition that will never go away. FOUR pills, a dosage that is not recommended in any medical journal because it doesn't make any fucking sense. Dr. Maldonado is a joke, and so is everyone in this office. Stay away for your health, took me over 12 years to write this review but I won't accept this treatment any more. They also scam you and make you pay a copay for things that can be resolved over email. They should be ashamed. read more

this review is solely based o n the phone conversation i had with the receptionist who was VERY rude! I called to make an appt. for my husband, I started with "we recently left Kasier and i am looking for a new Dr" her reply "we dont take Kasier" After restating my initial comment I was put on hold to verify my insurance, i was told i need to leave a deposit over the phone and that our insurance would have to be re-verified at the time of the visit she also added that it would probably be 2months out from the time I was calling. I told "yes sure no problem' her reply "well Im just telling you since you only have insurance till July" All this was done in a rude tone as if I was bothering her with my requests for being a new patient. Not to mention BEta, Peka, Frita or whatever her name has has NO clue what our insurance situation is..... obviously I would be calling to make an appt if we didnt have the coverage we needed to make an appt. I hope this is NOT how this office does business their customer service was beyond HORRIBLE!!!! no office should treat a new patient this way. read more

I have been using Dr. Paley as my doctor for about two years now (I found him via Yelp). And I am very happy with him. He is compassionate, thoughtful, and very competent. I like the way he approaches health issues which is very important to me. I am not one of those who thinks doctors are gods--they are human and their recommendations need to be critically evaluated. Dr. Paley's thought process and suggestions make sense to me. He is very effective at soliciting the right type of information, and uses this very well. And he is very good at explaining things, which is critical for a doctor. I feel like I am in good hands. read more

I am giving this a mediocre review simply because I tried to set an appointment, but I can't seem to. I was referred to Dr. Paley by my son's pediatrician, since I was looking for a new doctor for myself. I called and spoke to someone who said that the person who handles new patients would call me back. Days went by without a phone call, so I called again - and again, was told someone would call me back, but no response - and that was over a week ago. No matter how good a doctor or any professional may be, the simple courtesy of calling back is key in gaining new business - so I wish this office luck in having a long-lasting practice if this instance is their 'normal'. read more

This doctor has very high rating and all might be valid ...however I am daze by how the good doctor "policies" are NOT helpful to me. Although I'm healthy the first visit was odd, but in the year 2017, I requested the staff to notify me of my next visit, I want to do any blood work before the appoint. I do not want to be charged for a visit that I was never notified or at lest provide some notice. Billing me $50 for appointment that I was never notified of. This is my health care, my funds being paid, my need to have a doctor not a dictator. We've been seeing Dr. Paley for over 15 years, and I believe he is an excellent and compassionate doctor. He really listens to your issues and questions and takes the time to respond in detail. If he sometimes keeps people waiting, as others have said, because he's making sure each patient gets all the attention they deserve, I can live with that, although I can't recall ever waiting a long time. And believe me, I had doctors previously who kept you waiting over an hour every single time, and still didn't spend any time with you. As others have noted, he doesn't shove prescriptions at you like many doctors, and tries to address health concerns in a preventive manner or more natural methods like diet, exercise, etc. I suppose those who are upset that he attributes the cause of their illness to stress would prefer a magic pill for their symptoms instead of addressing the root cause via stress reduction, but Dr. Paley has kept me pharmaceutical-free and healthy the whole time, and I prefer that. I really can't understand the negative reviews here, because my wife and I have nothing but complete respect for Dr. Paley, and would (and have) confidently recommend him to anyone. read more

I really like Dr. Paley, he's really nice and always takes the time to listen to my problems. If only getting an appointment to see him wasn't such a pain. I have a lot of anxiety around making phone calls, so I got set up with the online system to make appointment requests. This doesn't actually help much, because they'll just call you to confirm the appointment time after you make the request online, and if you miss that phone call for whatever reason, they won't call again, they just leave a voicemail telling you to call them back. Half the time I call them (within business hours, nowhere near lunchtime), nobody picks up. I'm getting really tired of playing phone tag with this office. read more

If you need a controlled substance for severe chronic pain, anxiety or sleep disorders, my thankfully brief experience with this doctor is that he doesn't care about you. He showed no empathy or compassion for my problems. He was only worried about prescribing a controlled substance and how much of his precious time you were taking. If I could give him a ZERO star, I would. If you're looking for a doctor who's genuinely concerned for your health, look elsewhere. In the last few years I've had him as a primary physician, he's not once reached out to schedule any annual checkups and is way too hands-off. Every time I've been there for an appointment, I've also had to wait at least half an hour. What's the point of scheduling an appointment if you're going to run late ALL THE TIME?! Last straw was when my work adopted a COVID mandate and I asked him to write a note for my medical exemption and he refused. My concerns were legitimate and all he had to say is "that's a tough choice to make (either lose my job or be forced to get the vaccine). Also, the Bayside Medical office had the nerve to call me asking for my co-pay! I said "For what??! He provided me with NO SERVICE and you guys are charging me?!!" Glad to say I told them he'd no longer be my doctor right there. Like I said, if you're looking for an excellent, genuinely caring doctor, look elsewhere. I have been with the Bay Family medical group since Dr. Reynolds was around - hell, he delivered both my sister, myself AND my mother! As I grew older I stuck with them, and saw Dr. Paley because I knew them and felt comfortable. That is until about two years ago. From out of nowhere my visits seem rushed, I felt that I was ignored and my symptoms disregarded often as "stress", my struggle with extreme IBS for 7 years now, was blatantly ignored by Dr. Paley who had me taking up to 60 grams of fiber a day (after 5 "come back in a few weeks" visits). When I finally insisted upon seeing a GI specialist, I was informed that it was ridiculous the regimen Dr. Paley had me on, and that my past PCP doctor "had no idea what he was doing". Beyond all that, I still went back, for other random heath issues. I made an appointment to discuss to concerns I was having. After doctor Paley making me wait in the room 30 minutes, he finally showed up, rushed and it was completely apparent he was behind and/or overbooked. (It is a constant problem with Dr's these days, I know.) I was able to address one concern, that he shrugged off, and when I said "OK, can I ask you about the other thing?", he looked me in the eyes and said "No, I don't have to time to answer another question for you, I spent enough time on you already!" I was completely baffled - i thought he was kidding at first but realized, as he walked out the door, that he most definitely was not. Not only was it rude, disrespectful and unprofessional, but also ridiculous. You make me pay a $20 co-payment for an appointment, in which in need your advice/guidance/prognosis/etc.. and then you show up 30 minutes late, give me a lackluster 10 minutes of your time and toss me out?!! I transferred to Dr. Maldonado the next day - but am still searching for a good, new and professional PCP. I am gladly taking recommendations. read more

After being a patient of Dr. Paley's for the past several years, I am done with him. Yes, he has a calm bedside manner, but that's about it. As another reviewer wrote, he chalks everything up to stress and never goes the extra mile for you as a person. You end up spending more time in the waiting room than with him. He is rushed every time and he makes you feel dumb or as if you are wasting his time for asking questions. The last straw was when he recently referred me to a specialist for an on-going skin problem that he felt he was unable to treat. Well, due to insurance issues (HMO at the time), the referral was denied. I found out that when they contacted Dr. Paley about the referral, he sent them a letter stating that he could treat me for the condition!! When I called the doctor's office to see what was going on, they said it would be best if I just come back in to see Dr. Paley! I was really upset and asked the nurse, what is Dr. Paley going to do during another visit that he didn't do initially? Why should I waste more money (co-pay) and time to see him again when he should have done his job the first time I saw him for the problem! UGH. Very frustrating experience. And of course he would never take the time to call a patient himself to discuss the issue. I will not be going back to him (and neither will my husband who has had similar experiences with Dr. Paley). read more

I am also surprised by some of these negative reviews, which make me wonder if they have issues with their other doctors as well. I've been a patient of Dr. Paley for well over 10 years and with the exception of him being late to my appointments, he is an excellent listener and wonderful doctor. I'm hoping that my two grown sons will soon be patients of his as well. I like that he is not prone to medicating every little issue, when I finally decided to start taking blood pressure meds it was after much thoughtful consideration and discussion. Dr. Paley takes time to get to know his patients. I saw him for the first time last week with a knee injury. He did an exam and as he was moving my knee it was hurting, he immediately stopped the exam and said that he didn't want to continue so i wouldn't be in anymore pain. He was thorough in his explanation and sent in an urgent referral to an orthopedic surgeon. He told me that if i cant get in immediately call him and he would see what he could do to speed it up. He didn't rush me when i was asking him questions. He has an amazing bed side manner. I would highly recommend him to family and friends. The staff was also friendly and professional. read more

I felt Dr Paley was great when I saw him my husband also liked him. We went for an annual exam. He was very professional and I recommend him to a coupe of people. However I must remove that recommendation as I have called 5 that is correct 5 times in the last two weeks to get a referral from them and as yet have received no return all. The last straw was today when I called and they said that the nurse would call me back after she gave a shot........it is now 6:30 so no call. I am not someone who goest to the Dr at the drop of a hat I am well and only go maybe one or twice a year. I am changing Primary Care Dr tomorrow. I see Dr. Paley for pysicals and other things Dr. Michelle Lobitz doesn't do. She pretty much does everything though. I finally got insurance after suffering without it for so long. I was dealing with government clinics and was soooo happy to return to Dr. Lobitz and Dr. Paley. I was in and out for my anual exam. I'd wait hours at clinics. It feels nice to be back with dr's that care and that really make you feel good about seeing them. I would recommend their office to anyone. read more

I needed a new primary care physician since switching from kaiser to Sutter health and I am so happy to have found Dr Paley. He really took the time to get to know me during My initial consultation; discussing, updating, and refilling my medications, and providing referrals to outside services. We discussed a variety of concerns and he was very empathetic and kind, a very good listener, and really knowledgeable about general health issues as well as his ability to network with outside specialists. OMG I feel so obliged to write this review. As said by someone else , I was born at Mills Hospital and have been a patient of Dr. Chamberlain(delivered me) Dr. Lindsay & Dr. Reynolds before Dr. Paley. My whole family(husband, daughter and son) goes to Dr. Paley including my elderly mother. We LOVE him and actually look forward to seeing him. It is harder to get appointemts with Dr. Paley because he is so popular and such a wonderful Dr. He usually works it out for each of us to see him but I must say all the other doctors at Bay Family Medical are great. including Dr. Lobitz (the nurse practioner). Wait times are longgggg which can be a drag but I feel the same as someone else said in that I know Dr. Paley is spending quaility time with someone else while I wait. Dr. Paley is very through, knowledgeable, kind and patient and has never ever rushed any of us out. I've never felt rushed, dismissed, or incorrectly diagnosed, in fact quite the opposite. I am shocked some of the reviewers here could say anything different. Dr. Reynolds was like family to us and I tell you Dr. Paley is the next best thing. If we need a referral he is always willing to say he needs to send you somewhere else. The insurance rules are so strict now so a Primary Physician NEEDS to see you first before referring. Yes it is 2 co-payments but it is the way it is these days. Dr. Paley's nurse Mercy is not the best. She does not follow-up when she is supposed to and never returns calls when you leave a message. We feel as though she does not like us including my elderly mother. It gets so bad sometimes that we think of moving to a new Dr. but quickly nix that thought since we love Dr. Paley so much. We feel it is worth the frustration. All the other nurses and the front desk staff are wonderful. I would recommend anyone I know to Bay Family Medical, especially Dr. Paley. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Paley for years, and wouldn't switch. He also sees my teenage boy....have you ever tried connecting with a teenaged boy? Dr. Paley has taken the time to build a relationship with him, and has been instrumental in helping us teach our son to have a positive attitude toward health care practitioners. As parents, we are so grateful that our young man is growing up trusting his doctor. What a gift to take into adulthood, especially for a male. Called to make a first appointment today for a physical. Receptionist was friendly enough. He took my insurance info and told me he would call back shortly when it was verified. He called an hour later to confirm is was valid and make me an appointment. I wasn't too excited that all three Dr's in the office are booked out into March for a simply physical, but made the appointment with Dr Adam Paley for the end of February (earliest available) and will comment further when I see him. He comes recommended to me by my business partner who speaks highly of him. read more
