Surprisingly I've never been to this place even though it's right next door to El Dorado, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. A new business acquaintance suggested we meet there and when we walked in, it was surprisingly empty. The manager was our server and he shared some history as he recently took over operating this location a year or so ago. He was well versed in wines and their wines were lower in sulfites so they were less tannic/dry, which is typically my preference in wines. He suggested a wine flight options if we wanted to try different wines, which was nice. We each told him our typical preferences and he created a custom flight for us. To me they were lighter and less bold than I prefer but it was good to try a few different kinds. She had two whites and two reds. I had four different reds. They have limited food options (i.e., two) so we ordered the hummus that was pictured with bread but they were out so they offered pita chips instead, which were fine. He did say that even though they had limited food options, we could order from El Dorado next door and they would walk it over when it was ready, which is very cool even though I typically don't think of Mexican food and wine going together. :-) The overall presentation of the food and glasses was more basic than I would have expected from a wine shop since I've done several wine tastings before, but the location is great and I look forward to checking it out again soon and trying some different wines! read more

What a super cool place! Water 2 Wine is next door to Eldorado restaurant on Anderson Lane, Austin, TX and is one of Austin oldest wineries. Who knew? Water 2 Wine is a fully operating winery where all of their wines are blended, oaked and fermented on site. According to Dane, this is how the process works, you come in taste test the wine, choose a wine you like and you can have a batch of that wine bottled with a personalized label. I was thinking of getting one bottle personalized. Wine 2 Wine is focused on bulk wine. While you can order one bottle, ultimately they are set up to produce in bulk. Wonderful, cozy wine bar! The staff at this location have always been so kind. I love the ambiance of this location. It almost feels as if you're enjoying a glass of wine at a friend's house. They offer a wide variety of wines to try, and they allow you to bring in food. I've seen folks bring in full charcuterie boards to enjoy with their wine. Be aware that these wines are fresh, so they have a bit of a different flavor than the wine you pick up at the store. Everything they offer is sulfite free. My favorite wine has been a whiskey barrel aged cab that is seasonal - try it out if you get a chance! PRO TIP: If you're hungry, order from Eldorado Cafe (another amazing local business) next door. For $45/per month, you receive two bottles of wine to take home and enjoy two complimentary glasses of wine at the winery in addition to other discounts and members only events! This place is such a gem. We went a few times to have a glass of wine here and the people working there ALWAYS remember our names. We then decided to make a batch of wine (actually 5) for our wedding gifts to give to our guests. What a fun experience! Since then (2020) we have joined the monthly wine club so we get a few free bottles of wine and discounts! It's next to ElDorado Cafe, and has couches, high tops, and a few tables outside too. Nice for a bridal shower, date night, or just for a glass of wine and to read a book by yourself. They have a range of wines from dry full bodied reds to light whites. Actually, they also provide services as your own personal vintner and label maker, where you can taste, create, and label your own wine! If you are a young couple, or an old couple, or an odd couple, and you decide you want a wine baby, you may be a bit worried about where, when and how to do that. It's a big step and you should have nothing but the best for your Vino Bambino, so please look no further than Water 2 Wine, and Jenny in particular. She is the BEST midwife for your wine labor. We just had the best experience making, bottling and labeling our wine baby. It was smoooooth sailing and immediately made me want another :) When you decide to make your own wine, first, you'll get to sample the wines, ALL of them if you so wish. I spent two afternoons sampling bunches of them and all the staff were generous and enthusiastic in helping me find which wine I wanted. Then, you make an appt for conception. It's fairly simple and pleasurable. Again, you can grab a glass of wine as you work, mixing the juice and water and yeast in a giant white bucket (Carboy), churning away for about 10 minutes and then your part is done for about 6 weeks! The rest of the staff will ensure that your baby gestates comfortably and appropriately, testing its ph and sugars until its ready to be born. Then the magic happens. As the parent, you'll have full creativity in naming your baby. In which case, you can pick any 3 images you like, decide the wording and color scheme and font of the label, email all that to Jenny and she'll print out the most perfect labels. You can then invite a bunch of friends to witness and help in the birthing. You can bring in all kinds of snack ems and the fine ladies at Water 2 Wine will immediately ply your guests with tastings of their wine and you can buy bottles (and bottles) to facilitate in the birthing process. Everyone in your party can try their hand at filling bottles, corking bottles, melting the lid foils, and sticking on labels. In the end, you'll have about 30 bottles of fantastic wine ( I recommend the Gruner!) to share and take home. They make for fantastic house warming, business, wedding, new baby, Christmas, Hanukkah, etc gifts. In fact, if you decide last minute you'd like to adopt a wine baby for Christmas, they keep a bunch already made and ready to label for your Christmas party or gifts. Best thing was, our friends had so much fun and it was such a new experience for all of us that we WIN again as the hostess with the mostest. And, even though I had grand plans of using this wine at our housewarming party, I doubt it'll last another 8-10 months so we may indeed make another baby next year. Jenny and the rest of the staff really made this so much fun and interesting with all their cool contraptions and accomodated me with the music I wanted (got to have appropriate Edith Piaf wine birthing music!) and never left a wine glass dry in my group. Water 2 Wine has taken your normal wine drinking experience and given it a unique spin by providing you the keys to the winery and letting you become the vintner. You make your own batch of wine, create custom labels, bottle it, and best of all, taste the fruits of your labor. By having you do this work on site they are able circumvent certain regulations resulting in less sulfites and other chemicals than store bought wines. I have been visiting Water 2 Wine for about five years and actually created a batch with my wife and we gave the custom bottles of wine away as gifts at our wedding. The gifts were a hit. Water 2 Wine imports their grapes and juices from other vineyards. This is not uncommon for vineyards in Texas as most don't grow enough grapes, if any, to meet their own demand. When you decide to make a batch this is where you will start. You will mix the juice, and depending on the type of wine you are making will add flavors like oak. After you make the wine it will go in the back room for fermentation where the staff will guide the wine along over the next six to eight weeks changing containers around six times. About two months later you will come back and bottle your wine. You add your label, fill the bottle, cork it and shrink wrap foil around the top. Like a good chef test tasting food a lot of quality assurance goes on during this process. This is a perfect event to bring along a group of friends. Hopefully you end up bottling more wine than you drink. You don't have to make wine. Water 2 Wine is also a spacious wine bar, with a large selection of wine, where you can stop in just to drink some wine. All of the wine is made on site by the employees. They don't sell food but you are welcome to bring in food to eat with your wine. There are plenty of tasting options or you can buy by the glass or bottle. We were able to taste several different wines before we decided what we wanted to make. We spent about 1-1.5 hours there. You are definitely recommended to buy a bottle as all winery's usually do, but this spot doesn't make you feel pushed to - which makes me want to buy another bottle. We were sad when the Round Rock location closed down, but found this place to be a million times better. The decor is cute and thematic, with tons of inviting spots for seating, whether you're looking for a romantic spot for two, or some couches for a larger gathering. The best part is the staff - super friendly and helpful while we try to make the tough decision of what to drink or take home. The free samples help too! Making our own batch of wine is a yearly tradition for us. We get together with friends to start the wine (which of course involves a good time trying the different wines first), design our own labels (or get help from W2W), throw a gathering to bottle the wine, then have bottles to hand out as wedding favors, Christmas gifts, or generic gifts. We are club members, so we stop by at least monthly for a couple glasses of wine and to pick up our bottles to enjoy at home. I attended Keri B's W3 Happy Hour event here last night, and I fell in love. I fell in love with a wine named Island Mist Pomegranate Zinfandel. It was lusciously described by other ladies at the table as a "juice box". Boy howdy, were they ever right! An *adult* XXX juice box! I think it's safe to say that I wasn't the only lady at the table who was vying for Pom Zin's affection. Yolanda and Lisa M were also gaga over Mr. Pom Zin. I bought a bottle of Pom Zin on my way out. Should've bought two. One will not be enough. But I suppose that's good for Water 2 Wine, as they'll get my repeat business. Oh, Pom Zin, as I uncork your naked smooth bottle, my body is filled with electric passion as I envision myself seductively sipping your fruity alcoholic goodness... And now that my winegasm is over, I'll rate the rest of Water 2 Wine: Like Yolanda, I enjoyed most of the wines I tried. And Keri and Jessica were awesome for bringing cheese, crackers and Eastside Pies. The $10 unlimited tastings happy hour was a god-send, and I took full advantage of it. I did cheat on Pom Zin several times that night, but we weren't officially dating yet. Now we are. The staff was wonderfully nice and helpful, and has been every single time I've gone to W2W. They're both knowledgeable and fun, which is a combo you don't always find. The unlimited tasting was supposed to end promptly at 7pm, but they graciously gave us extra time to partake of their wonderful vino. And since I'm out of work, I am now purposely looking for jobs near this Water 2 Wine location so that I can steal away to W2W at lunchtime to gain glances and sips of Mr. Pom Zin. Uh-oh, did I say I'd be drinking during my lunch hour? I think my innocent grapey crush has become a full-blown obsession. And if I can't find a job nearby, I'll have to rent Pom Zin an apartment near my house so I can drink him more easily and frequently. I LOVE this place! Happened across it while going to Grapevine - who can pass up free wine tastings? :-) They give you 5 free tastings, sell by the glass, bottle and batch. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable - they are great about helping you pick your favorite based on the feedback you give them on tastings. I would pick any bottle of Water2Wine over any other commerical wine on the market. The lack of sulfites allows the true flavor of the grapes to come through, rather than being smothered by preservatives (plus you don't get a headache!). Made my first batch for Christmas gifts last year. All you have to do is mix it up, wait 45 days while it ferments (they do all the hard work - filtering, etc), then show up to fill, bottle, cork & label your final product. You can bring friends, throw in a cheese tray and make a party out of it! I made a Stag's Leap Merlot - came out to about $12/bottle - retail on that wine is over $30...and mine tasted WAY better! A typical batch is 25-30 bottles. Just went to the Round Rock location this weekend. It is also in a strip mall, which I don't think does either location justice. Personally, I like the ambiance of the RR location better - they have a patio area, larger bottling area, more comfy decor. The staff is just as awesome, if not better. This place was amazing for my friend's birthday last Friday night. Her incredible boyfriend arranged this whole place to be "ours" and we even got to bottle 30 bottles of wine ourselves! The owners were very nice and informative and their wines were really tasty. I learned that they buy their grapes from various regions and then make their own wine out of them locally. Which means no preservatives, etc. The guy (sorry - don't remember his name!) told me that you wouldn't get a hangover from drinking their wine. I laughed in his face. And then I woke up and felt fine in the morning and had a vision of him laughing at me back. Yeah, it's true. I think the only thing that could improve this place would be a HUGE Jesus pouring water and about half way down it turns red into a wine glass. I received a gift certificate to go to this winery and make a batch of wine and then come back to bottle and label it. They had a wide selection wines to make. You start by selecting a price range and then taste wines until you find a selection to your liking. The staff then brings you to a room set up to mix your wine. A gentleman led us through the process of making what turns out to be about 24 bottles of wine. We mixed the ingredients up in a 6 gallon bucket, water grape juice, clay, oak sawdust, yeast and a packet of something else I can not remember. The winery then takes the product through 6 steps and you come back 45 days later to bottle and label your wine. A week before you show up you send a .jpg of what you want on the label. Your own custom wine labeled as you desire. I will update this review when I taste and bottle my wine. read more

My husband found this place a few months ago by accident. He went to Grapevine when he saw the signs for free wine tastings. Knowing him, he turned so fast the truck was up on two tires as he was squealing into the parking lot. Since that fateful day, we have visited Water 2 Wine numerous times, enjoyed their wine, and have joined their wine club. They get their grapes from various wineries then they make the wine in the store. There are some benefits to this like lower sulfates... not sure what exactly that means but I was told it means an easier to deal with headache the next day if you decide to polish off a bottle by yourself while watching romantic girly movies. I like their variety of wines, I like that you can try the wine before you buy it and I like that they are reasonably priced!!! AND their employee, Jenny, remembers my name and the type of wine that I like every time I walk in the door. Seriously, that amazes me. She knows her wine, and will sit and chit chat with you. Spent happy hour here yesterday with other fabulous Yelp ladies to experience their fantastic HH special of $10 for unlimited wine tastings! That's right, I said it, unlimited wine tastings! Since all of the wine is made there they are an actual winery who buys grapes from various regions to blend in house. This means fresh vino and less preservatives and no sulfites to give you a hang over. The proof was in the glass, and I simply loved 12 out of 13 wines that I sampled. Most had the pure organic taste of blended grapes with a light body of smoothness. I was told that they had at least 40 wines to sample and sell but I just couldn't make my way through them fast enough. All the more reason to come back. BTW you can even make your own wine with customized labels there as well. Talk about a cool gift or fun date. Chris, our server and his other female collegue were super friendly and knowledgeable about wine, giving them credibility. Food isn't sold to accompany your wine tasting but they are gracious to let people bring in their own cheese plates or pizza from East Side Pies like we did. Yup, that's how we roll! I have all but given up on wine drinking because it's just not fun for me anymore. So why did I come here? A networking function. I'm really reviewing it on that basis. I am going to be on the look out for more and more places that are condusive for a group of say 20-30 people and this definitely was. The owner was very cordial and it was explained that their wine does not have all the annoying things it that can give you headaches, stuffiness, etc. That was appealing and I actually sampled a glass of red. It was fine. Like I wrote, I'm well over wine, but I'm the only one in Austin who is so I will no doubt host an event here at some point. Well maybe not at this one. Assuming the S. My friend and I headed here to use our Groupon - Overall, I would give this place a "Meh" rating. Not the most exciting place I've gone, but for the value of the Groupon - not bad. For starters, they booked us for a wine tasting the same night as a movie night. Had I not called earlier in the day to confirm our reservation, I would have shown up to find out that we were placed in the backroom to kill out the noise of the movie. Thankfully, I called earlier and was able to show up earlier for the tasting and avoid the movie night. The wines were simply okay - nothing mind-blowing, nothing great, and nothing I felt like I absolutely HAD to take home. Honestly, our sommelier really could have used a little more personality. While I tried incessantly to tune out Jenny or Jessica (the woman who talks like she is yelling across a football field at all times), our wine connoisseur lacked personality in the way the wine lacked taste. My best friend and I were bantering back and forth about what we thought about each of the wines and asking questions and she often talked over us (!) or simply refused to engage in our conversation. We're pretty friendly people, so it was kind of off-putting that she didn't see that we were trying to have a conversation with her and that made it kind of awkward. She wouldn't even comment on what we thought of each wine we tried. It was just awkward. Toward the end, we were ready to go and she kept wanting us to try different wines so she really didn't know how to take a hint. I honestly think she just might be incredibly socially awkward - not something that's highly desirable in someone that is pouring tastes. Definitely didn't make me feel inclined to buy additional wine. The Groupon made the experience totally worth it, we walked away with a bottle of the port (pretty good, but easily the best thing we had all night in the tastings) and heard a little bit about the wine club that would be a GREAT deal if their wines were actually good. Overall, I would recommend for a cheap bottle of wine or a cheap customizable bottle of wine. If you have a deep respect for your taste buds, this is probably not the place for you. read more

This "wine production" is very inviting, low-key, and affordable. The people that work here are awesome, and the idea of making your own wine is pretty radical. Although most of the difficult things are done by them, it is still a cool thing to do. It is always cool to slap your own label on something! The wine tasting class is a great introduction on how to go about enjoying fermented grapes. The atmosphere is very non-pretentious, and they let you try ANYTHING and see EVERYTHING. They have 30+ types of wine, and all of them are pretty different. They have some really unique choices. The production is all done in the same building, so you can make anything you taste. This place is definitely deserving of some praise, but it just sucks that it does not give off that "winery" vibe. They do, however, let you host parties here. A business associate/friend came into town for training one week. We had not seen each other in a while and we both like wine, so I thought we'd hit up Water 2 Wine for a wine tasting. We both loved it. We planned on doing the tasting, then running out to the Oasis to have dinner. Well, we enjoyed ourselves with the wine tasting so much that we never made it out to the Oasis. You get 5 wine tastings for free (I think they are like 2 ounces each), then you pay $1 for any additional tastings. The employees there know their stuff, so they suggest tasting the white wines first, then the reds, then the sweet wines. Even if you don't know what to try, go and the employees will assist you. You tell them what you like, what you don't like, etc. and they give you suggestions. They'll even tell you what they pair with if you want to use them with a meal. They do not add any additional histamines or sulfites to their wines, so, for those people who sneeze or get stopped up when drinking wine, they usually won't with the wine made from Water 2 Wine. Also, they don't age them in casks, so this along with the fact that they do not add any histamines or sulfites makes the hangover a little easier the next day. :) Needless to say, we left there with 9 bottles of wine between the two of us. They had a deal while we were there, spend a certain amount of money and get another bottle for $1. If you go and you like reds, try the Austrian Zwiegelt, it's got heavy cherry undertones and it's fabulous. For your whites, try their Gruner Veltliner - or, just go try some yourself. You don't have to buy. You can try all 96 wines if you've got the money (for the extra tastings) and the time. read more
