Over the years I have adopted/fostered several dogs from WAHS. The staff is so helpful and caring . It is evident that they truly care about the dogs and cats at their facility. I have never had a bad expirience at this shelter. read more

I adopted one hell of a dog out of here years ago! He was my best friend for sure! The facility did not lie about his needs or health like some shelters do. He unfortunately passed year or two ago but everyone in the fire house loved him! read more

I brought my dog in for a surgery and the lady at the front desk was absolutely rude the whole time. Had an attitude the second I walked in. Told me that my dog was starving because he had to fast before his surgery and was just very passive aggressive cutting me off and not welcoming at all. read more

I found my lovely beagle here some years ago. Facility is clean and has great staff. I will soon be looking for a kitten & will return.

Very unkind staff puts word in everybody's mouth lies on everyone all up in everyone's business can't talk or see the pet you donated even though nobody is behind you not allowed to talk to the animals I can go on and on we were just treated like kids and very disrespectful and lied to from the very start period do not trust these people or what they say read more

Stopped by to drop off a couple big bags of food for the dogs and cats today during these tragic times and saw the new facilities! Well at least the outside...wow great job it looks incredible. I will sleep better knowing these animals are feeling the love of the staff and obviously the community. Keep up the good work!!! Remember people even during these times of being locked in the house there are animals out there that won't receive the supplies they need. If you're not comfortable going to the store you could always order something extra on Chewy and drop it off in a collection bin. Most shelters have them set up outside. Look after all Gods creatures! In loving memory of Razz Desiderio 2004-2020. (The black and white dog in the pic) read more

My experience with this place was an absolute 100% positive experience. I have heard many horror stories, and I am sure they have their faults, but not with me and not when I went My little one wanted a dog and was begging for years and she demonstrated the responsibility. That was going to be her Christmas present. I was not keen on having an animal, and I had a scroll of requirements that needed to match for me to go through with it. I called first and they told me about Molly but was waiting for the people who asked them to hold her. I seen another dog on the website that I was more interested in at the time and I took a ride out. I went to look around and there was Molly...she was very sad. She was being held for someone who didn't show, and they let me take a walk with her. We were both kinda awkward and nervous. She seemed alittle bit happy yet scared. I asked her if she wanted to come over my house because there was someone who wanted to meet her, she seemed like she kinda wanted to go so I gave her back and said if really like to give her a shot if that was ok. I didn't know there was an involved process that could take days/weeks...Plus she was on some kind of expired reserve but they pulled strings and I did a lot of running back and forth and I ended being able to bring her home by the end of THAT day. They seemed to be selective Because other people were interrupting my time with her but they were focused on me and worked realy hard pulling strings to help me get her that day. She was perfect in EVERY way. Size, affectionate, temperament, beauty, doesn't slobber everywhere, makes little poopies, doesn't bark too much, humor...just everything and we love her soooooo much. She's the nicest thing that was let in my house....it's her house now actually...MOLLYs house, everything is hers actually because she's the nicest fuzzy soft cuddly warm baby zoo in the whole wide world! so I can't say anything bad about that place. 5 stars. read more

This amazing shelter has been working hard for animal rights and to find animals a wonderful home for many years. Our family has adopted several great dogs from Washington County Human Society! The application process is easy and a necessity in this world we live in. The staff and volunteers work in the best interest for the animals who find their way to the shelter... They have seen 1000s of animals come and go and work endlessly to help each and every one of them. The new facility is amazing and so well deserved. I wouldn't look elsewhere for any animal for our family! Highly recommend. read more

I was approved to adopt a beautiful girl dog. Worked with them for a week to secure times to bring my other dog and the kids. Waited to tell my kids until 2 nights before we were scheduled to go. Got a call the following day that someone previously interested showed up and they gave the dog to her since she now had her clearances and landlord permission. That was followed up with an offer for me to come meet other dogs. Our hearts were absolutely broken. We did end up adopting, but not through this humane society. I was not willing to risk that heart ache again. I should have listened to all of the horror stories I had previously heard about this place. ** added note: i do not know why this review has me in California, but i assure you i am local to Washington County PA read more

It's a beautiful facility, it looks like the animals are well taken care of. But the staff did not impress me at all. I brought in five 2 week old kittens that we found, the mother was found dead, and I had been bottle feeding them for a week, every 2-3 hours and bathing them and just giving constant care while having two of my own young kids. I got attached to these kittens and really loved them. When I brought them in, they took them right away and didn't even give us a chance to say goodbye, and when I asked if they would bring them back out, the front lady said probably wouldn't. Which really made me sad and my little girl who loved them too. And the vet came out to ask questions two times. And after the second time, I waited for over 20 minutes, until I had to ask an employee walking by if I could leave. I had a 2 year old and 4 year old getting very antsy, and they couldn't even let me know i wasn't needed anymore. Was not impressed with the staff, did not like that I wasn't going to get to say goodbye. That was kinda heartless. read more

Let me first say this post has NOTHING TO DO WiTH NOT BEING CHOSEN TO ADOPT. DO NOT ADOPT from Washington County Humane Society. We placed an application for a beautiful Korean Mastiff that had been at the shelter since Nov. 19th. We were EXTREMELY honest about our intentions and that we were very experienced with dominant breeds. We asked a lot of behavioral questions and confirmed if their were any Aggressive issues with other animals. We were told absolutely not, he was in a home with other dogs and was evaluated by a behavioral specialist that said the dog had zero aggression issues whether it was food, treats, animals or humans. We were not given the dog and was lied to about our application being processed and then was told we were not chosen due to the dog having territorial and aggression with dogs and men. REALLY????? One thing that I cannot tolerate are people who lie and people who give false information to cover their selves. This post can go on forever with detail but my point is DO NOT USE their facility. Save your time and the $10 application fee! What facility in good faith wants good homes for dogs and charges an application fee. We should have listened to the horrible reviews. Again this post is NOT because we were not chosen, it was HOW IT WAS HANDLED! read more

I got my little princess from here. She is my precious beagle named Molly. Everybody tells me that I love her too much but...THERE WRONGG. They don't kill here and everybody else wanted to take her when they saw her w/ my mom. The people there was said that she is a good little girl and they loved her very much and was sad to see her go, so they are very friendly. read more

We Checked out on all our clearances to adopt . I called twice about our adoption. Then they call back next morning that they gave the cat to someone else. Asked if we did something wrong and they said no we checked out great. So they gave our cat away to someome else for no reason. Very disappointed and will never go back there! If I could give 0 stars I would . read more

I had a terrible experience with the director of this shelter. My daughter was a volunteer at this shelter and regularly witnessed excessive complaining about shelter employees by the executive director herself in front of volunteers and behind employees backs. This was very difficult to explain to my young daughter how inappropriate this sort of behavior is. I really would caution you upon working with this individual. It was very destructive for my daughter. read more

This review is not second hand materiel but first had experience. Should you choose to ask about these experiences, e-mail. The attitude of this humane society is appalling, their staffing is surprisingly lack luster, that they don't even send out an officer to check on the animals they are supposed to save. They bully the public to avoid the hard work and will only go out to high profile cases to get your check book out with sympathy stories from the media. I am currently conducting an investigative report into this society, one recent case covers the death of 10 horses which was ignored up until it made the media, and three abandoned cats that weren't worth their time. The owner of the property had to deal with three abandoned animals from a tenant that abandoned the property for two months. They made the 81 year old landlady responsible for their safety or they would charge her with neglect rather than help both her and the poor animals out. animals that were not hers to begin with. Another occasion from an official source told me of an incident where they found an abandoned dog starved to death because the humane society refused to do their job. The disturbing history I am getting will be published on various outlets soon, but I still await a comment from the society on the cases I am coming across. They appear not to have the staff, their attitude is currently disrespectful and, to quote the so called officer and manager they "don't take reports from the concerned public" (a comment given directly to me in discussion earlier today. More concerned with sympathy donations than they are with actually protecting animals from harm, the management which takes a decent salary should be replaced with a more competent workforce that is dedicated, professional and actually has some decent heart to carry out the duties we expect from them. For the record, criminal charges for the above cases are currently being pressed. And the cats mentioned are in safe custody. read more

We called this shelter a month ago when a former tenant of my grandmother's abandoned three cats in a rental property. Officers arrived and determined the cats had food and water. How they did this is beyond me as they never set foot in the house. After they left, they called and told us if the cats starved, my grandmother would be charged with neglect. She didn't want the cats in her rental property and the tenant skipped out on the rent. We fed and watered the cats until today when we filed the formal eviction papers. The magistrate told us to surrender the cats to the humane society. I called them back and was told they would not pick up the cats because they "don't have to." I was also told again that if the cats starved, my elderly grandmother would be charged with neglect. How about tracking down the dead beat who left three cats to fend for themselves in that house? No, they'd rather strong arm an 81 year-old woman into feeding and housing three cats she does not want. We did what we thought was the right thing in calling them because the cats are abandoned. They chose to not do anything except scare an old lady half to death. My grandmother has been through enough with the eviction, she does not need to worry about feeding cats that don't belong to her. This shelter is constantly begging for money, what do they do with it? They certainly do not protect neglected and abused animals in Washington County with it. They will never get another donation from me or my family again. I have contacted the media about this matter as I feel it is extremely wrong to hold an elderly woman responsible for her tenant's pets. Again, go after the tenant who abandoned the cats, not the elderly woman who was trying to do the right thing. Washington County Humane Society, shame on you! read more
