Our favorite local suburban sushi. It is good for what it is, but this is not a destination on its own, if you live near, or happen to be here and looking for a decent suburban sushi, I have not found a better place. For the past 3 years, they have been dependable and consistent. We mostly order delivery from here but have eaten there on several occasions. Decore and service only emphasize how much their business is geared towards delivery and pickup. But the important stuff is there, decent fish at a reasonable price, with some creative and delicious menu items. We tend to order more traditional sushi and never order special rolls, but to me, if the basics are done well, it's a great indicator of a restaurant that knows how to deliver read more

I stopped by and enjoyed a fantastic late lunch by myself. I came at a weird time (3pm) and was the only person in the restaurant. The waitress and sushi chef still gave me a great experience and took great care of me. I started with the miso soup which came out quick and hot. It was tasty and was the perfect start to my meal. I ordered 2 rolls which were the Angry Dragon and Rainbow Roll. The angry dragon was delicious and my favorite of the two. It felt like I had my own private sushi chef and server since I basically did! They patiently stood at the bar and instantly took care of my every need. It was so delicious that I debated ordering more but I was full. This place doesn't look too impressive from the parking lot but I'm glad I have them a chance! read more

We came to Wasabi Bistro for our anniversary and it was ok. The sushi and sashimi was good, but the inside was not at ALL what we expected. There was carpet and only a few tables, very dated. I suspect they're primarily a take out location. However, the food was good. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. The spicy maki combo hit nicely with the sashimi. We just drank water, it didn't look like they had much in the way of beverages. It's not what I expected for our anniversary, but we'd probably order takeout from them. I lived in the area for 7 years, and I'm very loyal to kenko but I'm learning to branch out! We ordered takeout for dinner, my husband went with the steak and chicken hibachi. I sampled some, perfectly cooked chicken and the sauce was spot on. I chose two special rolls since unlike every other sushi restaurant they don't cover the rolls in spicy Mayo to hide low quality fish. The angry dragon roll is easily one of my new favorite sushi rolls. The king crab roll is the real deal, which I love! I didn't love the ponzu sauce that was on the bottom of the roll but it was my first time trying ponzu and I'll just ask them to not add it next time. We live only 12 minutes away and have passed it thousands of times in the last 13 years but this was our first visit. It's BYOB so fair warning. This is a small, traditional Japanese restaurant (despite the fact that no one speaks Japanese and the sparse art is Chinese). The sushi was fresh and tasty, if perhaps (at least the a la carte) a bit small. But the menu is huge. Sushi, sashimi and many rolls. Wife and I had different a la carte sushi and we agreed that it was very good. There were also a large variety of classic Japanese hot appetizers that we'll have to try next time. There are also a number of noodle dishes (next time) as well as a full teppanyaki ("Hibachi") menu. I had the Emperor's filet and lobster, that came with traditional miso soup, salad, and the entree came with noodles, rice and 2 complementary shrimp. Everything was delicious and we left very full and satisfied. We brought a bottle of Sake and even with that, I should mention that the prices were below average for the the selections and quality and taste. Next time we'll try more sushi and some of the apps like negimaki, shumai and others. Highly recommended. read more

Hate to give this place 2 stars because our waitress was really nice, service was very quick (we were the only table there on a Sunday afternoon), sushi presentation was beautiful and Instagram-worthy, and our sushi tasted pretty good for the most part (my Angry Dragon roll had an odd aftertaste but I thought it was just the soy paper; my boyfriend also complained that his Rainbow roll was good but tasted a little "off")...but I just can't justify a higher rating after both my boyfriend and I got VERY BAD food poisoning here. I went to this place a month ago and ate at the sushi bar. I was blown away how good and fresh the Tuna was and looked forward to a future trip. Today I went back in and ordered takeout. Let's just say major disappointment from my first trip. The tuna sushi I ordered was not even close to how good the first time around was. I also ordered an Angel roll which has peppered tuna in it. I swear it was like eating cardboard. I would give this a 1 star but because the first time was so good I don't know what to think. Did they get a new fish supplier? Maybe with order out they give you not as good fish as eat in? I have no idea but really disappointed. I don't mind paying $$$ for good sushi but this time around NO good. read more

A tale of two restaurants. Sushi House (SH), the one up the street: it's aight. So today, I made it down to Wasabi Bistro, currently doing dinners only. I made the exact same order, chicken tempura and a special roll. (Note, they do not have chicken tempura on the dinner menu, only veg and shrimp. I can assure you it exists.) I started on the special roll and was blown away. It was the triple roll. Spicy tuna and spicy salmon were layered, and then a chunk of yellowtail on top. Unlike the SH roll, each ingredient was discrete and identifiable. The roll was packed full of tasty fish and just a little bit of asparagus for crunch. It came with the perfect amount of dipping sauce so I didn't even break into the soy. To top it off, there was a raw tuna rose on the side. The extra star is in the details. 6/5. The tempura: A little lighter and crispier than SH for that bonus star. It also came with a very generous amount of dipping sauce, which gave me enough to pour into the rice and flavor it up a bit. The interesting variable here was a tempura red pepper. Not complaining about that one. 5/5. Rice was good Japanese rice. Miso soup was underwhelming. I would have had a salad instead if that came with the dinner, so I'm not docking points for a dish I didn't really care about (I only had it because it was given to me). I've tried the two Japanese places I can walk or bike to, and sure enough, just like every other cuisine in town, I found the one that I'm adding to the rotation. WB is where it's at! (Bonus: I asked for the roll wrapped with seaweed instead of pink soybean paper. It came wrapped with seaweed. Little things matter!) read more

I love everything about this tiny place..from the little parking lot off of Myrtle Ave to the deliciously fresh sushi. First of all, they have such an extensive menu, from sushi to wok dishes to hibachi. They have a good amount of soups, including yaki soba, for those bitterly cold days we've been having. The mango chicken from their wok menu is super yummy, but the sushi is definitely the star. They have a great amount of fun specialty rolls - my favorites are the Angel Roll, Allen Roll, and Myrtle Roll. The place is fairly sized, perfectly fitting all the seating area with enough space. Amazing art work all over. Staff quick to satisfy anyone, the water, some of the freshest, cleanest waters to drink from. The food, served almost immediately, by starting off with the baby squid, one of my favorites and especially delicious off of a shish-kabob. All the food was beautifully plated with the freshest ingredients and even better presentation. A platter full of different sushi's with satisfying bites and a variety of many. One of my favorite sushis was the mango tango, a perfect reason to go back and have some more, the whole bite, all the flavors combined together amazingly. I placed an order with wasabi bistro on Grub Hub. I then reached out to the restaurant to specify which of the Chef's Special Rolls I wanted with my love boat for 2. Once on the phone the individual explained that set rolls came with the item and they were the Godzilla and Rainbow rolls. At this point I was confused because after scrolling their menu it was clear both of those rolls were categorized as Wasabi Special Rolls not Chefs Special Rolls in their menu while the love boat for two listed as including 2 Chef's Special Rolls. The restaurant representative in an extremely rude and bothered tone explained she would need to upcharge me if I wanted Chef's Special Rolls although that is what was listed. I attempted to further explain the disconnect and she wanted to hear nothing of it. She the agreed to substitute ONE of the items but did not stay on the phone long enough to agree to a viable substitution. Once I received the food it was not as fresh (fishy smelling) as I am used to from there. I am writing this because I feel that many customers (I assume), have been deceived by this restaurant for what they list as included in the Love Boat for 2, namely 2 Chef's Special Rolls, is not included but in fact replaced with less expensive Wasabi Special Rolls without notice to the customer. To me this appears to be absolute deception with a side of shady. I am somewhat appalled that even when being caught in the act Wasabi Bistro was not actively attempting to right the situation. Management here needs to properly train their staff and ensure all their listed menus align to avoid wrongs like this moving forward, I for one will not be going back. read more

Our go to spot for sushi. We usually get the lunch specials to save some money. Three roll combos are our go to. Service is great run by husband and wife. Living within walking distance, Wasabi Bistro is our go to Japanese restaurant. The food is good quality and fairly authentic, the prices are reasonable (plus look out for deals in the local paper) and the place is clean. Atmosphere doesn't shout Japanese but it's pleasant enough. We've been for lunch and for evening meals and the service is always friendly but can be a little slow when it's busy in the evening (they often have larger groups and seem busy with takeout orders). It's BYOB so we don't mind relaxing with a wine if our order is taking a little longer than usual. There's an excellent liquor store just a bit further up Myrte Ave if you come unprepared. read more

Here's the Deal: Found this place while searching through YELP! The restaurant has roughly 15 tables inside which are tightly packed together & it has a very small parking lot which makes it difficult or accommodate dine in or take our customers. As for the food... the tuna dumplings were "ok". The seaweed salads and shrimp tempura we really yummy! We enjoyed the Seasons roll & Main St roll...Although the service was slow, the staff was good at allowing changes to the rolls. Sashimi comes in 2 pieces per order and they were nice individual pierces. read more

I'd give wasabi a solid 4 stars, the restaurant prior to wasabi was run down and I don't think anyone would have ever eaten there. However the new management cleaned it up and made it a nice establishment. The biggest downside is probably the parking lot. As for the food and service I thought everything was excellent. We had edamame and a spicy egg drop soup which I've never had, my wife even liked it and she's not a fan of egg drop soup. Wasabi Bistro is very deceiving from the outside considering its minimalistic decor and less than attractive display case. However, on this inside it's very cool and clean and the food is delicious. We had Screaming Salmon (which was very spicy but yummy,) Shrimp Shu Mai (a classic done-well) and the Tuna Dumplings (a pleasant surprise with and awesome taste) Then we had 4 Special Rolls. We ordered from this place today and their ginger tasted so old. The mackarel is extremely sour. Chicken teriyaki is tasteless. Assorted sushi tastes really old: The delivery guy alsp demanded for tip in addition to the delivery fee. I wouldn't recommend. There's other better places. I like Nagano sushi in Morristown better.
