The AYCE portion was 30-minute total and then the remaining 20-minute was loitering/drinking. Felt a little rushed (as our group was the last to leave and running to the very end of the 90min mark). The first course of Sesame Tofu was a gelatinous texture that had sesame incorporated. The taste/texture was off putting for us. However, the chef noticed that we didn't like our dish and brought back a replacement dish of 2 pieces of tuna in soy sauce!! This personable service definitely was noted! I loved the chawanmushi (steamed egg) absolutely delicious and savory ! Most of the nigiri rolls were great (fresh, flavorful, depth), however there were a notable few (Sea Bream, striped jack, Toro hand roll) that were tasteless. The AYCE round was split into 3 segments of 4 choices: akami tuna, fatty tuna, salmon, and wagyu. You write on a paper the total number between the pair of us and they make them on the spot. $10 per piece that is not finished at the end. I skipped the akami tuna. I was thankful that I selected only 2 pieces of fatty tuna which were fishy and tasted nothing like the main course items and almost made me nauseous. My sister agreed while my other 2 companions did not note any fishiness. The salmon was less fatty/more lean that it didn't have much flavor. The wagyu pieces were divine however depending on how many you ordered, kind of prepared a little too raw. I liked how the nigiri pieces were light on the rice portions. In the end, I was weak and ordered only 6 additional pieces bc I was stuffed from the main course. The mochi dessert reminded me of an herbal hot/icy patch (iykyk) Skip the house sake. If you like dry sake, I liked the dragon god. If you like something light then the yuzu fizz. Something sweet, get the peach nigori. The service overall was observant, but our group was more actively hailing the staff down for refills. We often had to ask than being proactively refilled. The sake cups are rather reasonably sized that it wasn't necessary to constantly be asking for refills. All were smooth to consume. Overall, the experience was positive but the quality of the fish was just okay. The rice was alil too flavorful. It over powered the flavor of the waygu. The rest of the food was good. The service was very good. But it does feel rushed. I like the fact that when the AYCE part comes you have 2 rounds. So you don't feel like you have to order everything at once. They also don't put a lot of rice with the fish. For the AYCE portion, you have akami tuna, salmon, otoro, and wagyu as options and order all of them in rounds on a piece of paper. Usually, you get 2 rounds but can get 3 depending on how fast you eat and how fast the chefs came make the order within the 30 minute time limit. Compared to other AYCE places, the cuts of fish seem to be a lot better and more worth the price. This place is also AYCD with options for beers, sakes, and as well as soft drinks or hot tea. Really enjoyed my experience at Warabi Omakase! The food was excellent, and I thought the overall value was really impressive for an omakase experience. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. I also took full advantage of the experience -- had quite a few sakes and beers, and during the "Extra Time" I ended up having another 35 pieces of sushi! Definitely came hungry! The staff and overall experience made it a really fun and satisfying night. Warabi isn't bad, but in a world of all these AYCE/AYCD omakase places, it doesn't stand out either. It does the trick for being in LIC and the homemade tofu appetizer is something different in a good way. The warabimochi dessert is also good and something you don't see too often. Service is fine, water/sake or soda is refilled quickly so your drinks are always full. So quickly, in fact, that we turned around to ask the staff a question and when we turned back to the bar, my friend looked at her glass and was confused at how it was completely full within the 5 seconds and she gaslighted herself into thinking she might not have drank half of it to begin with. The vibes are quiet and no-nonsense. To be honest, it felt a bit rushed because they first give you a set 14-course and after that you have the unlimited portion. There aren't a set number of rounds for unlimited like a few other AYCE spots. You can order 3 pieces five separate times as long as you finish each order. It's mainly dependent on how much time you have left during the 80-min seating to order, for the sushi chefs to make it, and for you to finish eating it all. A normal course omakase runs about an hour, faster if there are less people, so you really only get 20-25 minutes for the unlimited part. All in all, I would still go when I'm in the area but wouldnt make a trek out for it. read more

Great new addition to LIC! The overall vibe of the place is elevated casual, and big groups can get seated at side tables. Although it's possible to sit at the chef's counter with 6-8 folks (we saw a group who were seated at the corner of the chef's counter), it might be more difficult to have a conversation with each other. My husband and I were impressed with the omakase portion for the price, and the unlimited drinks. We were a bit let down by the AYCE portion, as the pieces you receive aren't exactly the same as the omakase part, which is a bit misleading. For instance, the salmon offered during omakase was considerably better than the salmon offered for the AYCE portion. I also think that while the AYCE wagyu cuts were still good, the omakase wagyu was a bit of a better cut. The servers were nice and were quick on getting us anything we need. If you are looking for a more high quality sushi place (and not necessarily a place that does AYCE), I would consider other options. Overall it was a good dinner! read more

I've tried many AYCE omakase spots and this one left me a little disappointed. I really loved the interior and how large the omakase bar was since it sat a lot of people. The appetizers were delicious, especially the sesame tofu. However, I would say that the quality of the fish is not that great. Some of the fish left a fishy taste in my mouth and when we got up to the AYCE portion, I couldn't order a whole lot because I knew I wouldn't be able to handle the fishy taste. With so many omakase spots in NYC competing in the sub-$100 to low-$100 price range, it can start to feel like you have seen everything the category has to offer. Guests get 30 minutes to order as many pieces as they want from a select menu that includes options like akami, ootoro, wagyu, and salmon. Do yourself a favor and skip this place if you're looking for quality sushi. The fish was nowhere near omakase quality and had a noticeably fishy taste throughout the meal, which is a major red flag for freshness. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the standard course, let alone consider ordering more. The unlimited menu appears to use extremely low-quality fish and ingredients. What was most disappointing is that even pieces that should have been highlights of the meal tasted fishy and lacked the clean, fresh flavor you would expect from a decent sushi restaurant. The texture was also off, making the experience even less enjoyable. I've had much better sushi at ordinary neighborhood sushi spots for a fraction of the price. Marketing this as omakase or premium sushi is misleading. If you're a sushi lover or have any appreciation for quality fish, you'll likely be very disappointed. My friend and I have been on a mission to try all the AYCE omakase spots in the city, so we were excited to check out Warabi--so far, I think it's the only one in Queens. This review might be a little hyper-critical, but hopefully it's helpful for others on the same mission. The vibes -Love that it's in Queens near the Queensboro Plaza stop--right under the 7 train, so it's super accessible. -Unlike some other omakase spots, this place is huge. There's space for 20+ people at the bar, plus 4-5 tables that can seat around 6 each. -Multiple sushi chefs and servers, so overall service is smooth and attentive. -It's also AYCD (beer, sake, sodas, and hot tea included), which is a nice bonus. The food It's 14 courses (2 appetizers + 12 sushi courses), followed by AYCE tuna, fatty tuna, salmon, and wagyu nigiri. Unlike other places, you can do unlimited rounds of ordering, which I really liked. -The appetizers were sesame tofu (a soft, slightly congealed sesame paste) and a crab chawanmushi. -The sushi itself was good--the fish tasted fresh, and I liked that many of the nigiri were topped. However, the rice was noticeably disappointing (more on that below). -For the AYCE portion, you fill out a sheet with how many pieces you want and can order as many rounds as you like within 30 minutes. One thing to note: the fatty tuna during AYCE seemed like a lower quality than what was served in the initial 14 courses. The hyper-critical -The chawanmushi was delicious, but the presentation could be better. It's served in a wide bowl so the chawanmushi itself seemed very shallow, which makes it a bit awkward to eat and takes away from the experience. -The sushi rice was distractingly inconsistent. It started off very very mushy, which muddled the flavor and texture of the white fishes. It improved slightly in the middle courses but was still on the softer side, then became overly soft again toward the end. Since most of the meal is nigiri, the rice really matters, so this was a letdown. -Having multiple sushi chefs is great for speed, but i feel like must lead to some inconsistency. During one AYCE round, a different chef prepared our pieces and under-charred the wagyu ones making it chewy and tough. It wasn't terrible, but it did make me question how consistent the rest of the meal was. read more

The sake selection was delicious and you also can choose between Sapporo and Orion if you want beer.
