Not a bad first omakase experience. Way more casual but the quality was still amazing. Every bite was indeed delicious. Great amount for the price. Faves were Unagi with Foie Gras, Otoro, Wagyu, and Salmon Belly. Pay with cash for a 4% discount!!

My boyfriend and I had our first date here 4 years ago, we make sure to come at least once a year! The quality is unbeatable. Gib was our chef and not only was she super sweet but very well versed on her courses. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great omakase experience for a reasonable price.

Matsunori is a great small and casual omakase spot with two affordable menu options. $58 for 9 pieces or $88 for 2 apps, 10 pieces and two handrolls. Jackie and the team are great fun and bring a very happy energy to the place. Overall the service is quick but we never felt rushed. It's BYOB but they also serve a small menu of sake and beers.

AMAZING! We recently went here for my fiance's birthday with 7 of our friends. The restaurant is very small and could seat about 11 people max. The sushi chefs and the manager/owner (I assume) was very engaging and attentive for the entire meal! This restaurant is BYOB and the omakase is only $88. You really can't beat the price for the quality of fish and service you're getting! My personal favorite was the Spanish Mackerel which was shocking because I honestly don't like Mackerel due to their fishier taste but here, it was mild and very buttery. The chef even persuaded me to try the uni and foie gras combination which was so buttery and delicious. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a deal, great service and a fun atmosphere.

Matsunori is our go-to omakase spot, and we've been three times already. Their BOGO 1/5 deal, ending on 2/29, was a great incentive for us to revisit. But what's got us even more excited is their upcoming hand rolls omakase concept starting in March. Plus, hearing about their expansion to a bigger location just adds to the anticipation. We can't wait to see what's next for them! Very friendly staff. Their homemade yuzu sake was amazing! BYOB without fee is chefs kiss!

I recently celebrated my birthday at Matusnori with 9 of my best friends so we had the whole restaurant to ourselves! Don't think I could've chosen a better restaurant to celebrate! Everything about the experience was 10/10, from the omakase to service to overall experience. Fave pieces of the night for me were the Scallop with Uni and Toro with Caviar. Also loved the Toro hand roll and the end. In total, we got 2 appetizers, 10 pieces of sushi, 2 hand rolls, and a piece of fruit. Since I was the birthday girl, they also gave me a matcha ice cream! The sushi chefs and employees were super friendly and offered us the yuzu sake on the house!! BYOB - they were very on top of it with the pours which we all appreciated. I really liked that for the reservation of 10, all I needed to do was make a res on Resy beforehand. I didn't need a deposit or a more expensive omakase menu unlike many other places that I checked in Manhattan. Overall great birthday experience! My friends and I all loved the experience and can't wait to be back. We did the BOGO 50% off so it came out to about $90 a person, which is a great deal for a filling and delicious omakase.

Matsunori sits ~10 people in a very cramped space (think, difficult to walk behind chairs if they're hung with winter coats). So imagine how uncomfortable we were when, before we had even begun our meal, one of the sushi chefs started yelling at the only server. They argued first in English, then in Mandarin--which was doubly awkward for me since I could understand them in both. The yelling went on for a solid 5-10 min. It took us another 10 min to get basic things like water, since the server was clearly too frazzled. The food was basic and forgettable. No creative toppings or sauces. But for ~$68, I guess beggars can't be choosers. At the end of our meal, things came to a head yet again between the chef and the server, and this time, they yelled at each other for maybe 15-20 min. It was so loud, we couldn't even pretend to ignore it and carry on our conversation. And it was super inconvenient, since all we wanted to do was pay and leave, but the server was the only one who could process our card (and he was too busy being yelled at). Oh, and there's strong insistence on paying your bill via cash or Venmo. In fact, there's a BOGO offer if you pay by cash. Totally not sketchy.... Omakase menu below, in case you care. I don't. I won't be coming back. Appetizers: - Bluefin tuna with wasabi yuzu - Yellowtail sashimi with onion dressing Nigiri: - Japanese red snapper - Sea bass - Mackerel with truffle sea salt and shiso - Barca with mustard seed and seaweed - Salmon roe with yuzu skin - Yellowtail - Bluefin tuna - King salmon with manchego cheese - Otoro (fatty tuna) - Scallop and uni from Hokkaido Hand roll: - Eel and black truffle - Tuna

Went when they had a BOGO half off deal! Really good fish quality, chef was personable and explained each course. No frills omakase!

A cozy spot for delicious omakase tucked into the LES -- the value is great, with two menus for $58 and $88, respectively! You get an appetizer, 9 nigiri and 2 hand rolls for the $58 menu -- this is such a steal. The space itself is super intimate, would recommend coming with a friend or two. The fish was super fresh and tasty -- literally every single bite was delicious, with my favorites being the sashimi appetizer and Chutoro Tuna. There was a good mix of raw and torched fish, too. If you're looking for a quality omakase which doesn't break the bank, cannot recommend this enough.

If you're looking for a first foray into omakase, Matsunori is a great place to start! The fish selection and preparation is subtle yet distinct, delivering a coherent meal that has good variety. Both the smaller and larger omakase options are great, but for me the smaller was plenty (though I've had both). Not quite as much of an event as a fancier omakase experience but that can be a benefit if you're new to it. Aside from the food, the service is nice, atmosphere is cramped in a cozy way, so grab 2-3 friends, sit at the bar, and enjoy some fish.

Loved that they have two omakase options. One was $58 for 1 appetizer, 9 nigiri and 1 hand roll and the other was $88 for 2 appetizers, 10 nigiri and 2 hand rolls. We were starving so we got the latter. We also brought our own sake. They generously supplied us with a bed of ice and sake cups free of charge. They actually have a drink menu themselves - alcoholic and nonalcoholic. They even offered us a cup of their House Yuzu Sake which was delicious- tart and sweet. It really shows they just want their customers to have a good time. All pieces were sizable and hearty. I loved the fatty ones such as Otoro and King Salmon. There's a special a la carte menu that's not included in the omakase and the prices range from $10-$25 a piece. At the end of the meal, they gave us a few pieces of cantaloupe which was a lovelyFYI - paying in cash avoids the 4% credit card service fee.

This was my first omakase experience and I had a great time at matsunori! They offer two different packages, a $58 package and an $88 package. We got the $88 package. The appetizers were alright but I really liked the fish and my favorite was the wagyu! They also gave us a glass of their yuzu sake for free and a refill for free too! The restaurant seats about 10 people and is quite small and intimate. The whole experience takes about an hour. I would come back if I want a no frills omakase experience.

TLDR: Very well-priced and if you're looking for a budget omakase with good volume Matsunori is good. The BOGO 50% deal for cash payment is great if it's still available. Flavor-wise though, you get what you pay for. Service is wonderful, really friendly folks. I saw the promotion and figured we'd check it out. You can also bring your own bottles which is a plus. The volume of the meal is decent and for an omakase meal, it's on the cheaper side for sure. To be candid though, probably one of the less enjoyable cheapish omakases for me. The pieces I felt were overly-sauced which muted the taste of the fish completely. Sauces were either too sweet, too heavy. I understand the purpose of it but I'd probably like a bit more minimalist dressing. The team is super friendly but just being honest - I think there are better options even at the cheaper price.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived.
