Both times I was treated with respect and found the prices for both of those things to be reasonable. My oil change was around $60 and the inspection was around $30. I also had my air filter and cabin air filter replaced when they completed my oil change. They, however, allowed leaves to drop into my cabin air filter so when ever my AC unit was turned on my car made a rattling sound from the air blowing pass the leaves. Anyone who owns a car knows how mind-boggling any random car sound could be so that really initiated my return to the establishment. I wanted them to 1) remove the leaves that they allowed fall into the filter holder 2) replace an expired head bulb and 3) check to see why the head bulb expired so quickly after having recently changed it. Yesterday I dropped my car off to have my high beam changed ($24) and for them to just look at my car because I was preparing to drive back down to NC the following week. The owner/mechanic called me and told me that my car was 4K miles shy from needing new spark plugs and quoted me $200 for them. I did ask him to check the spark plugs/fuses because my headlight was just replaced last year with the highest quality bulb and U found it strange for its lifespan to have ended so soon. After speaking with the owner/mechanic, I told him that I'd wait for the spark plugs because I knew that my grandfather in NC could replace them for a third of the price. Today I picked up my car and my total was $124. They charged me $100/hour for my "road test inspection". The road inspection included: reviewing my spark plugs (which they did not change) and removing the leaves from the cabin air filter. I'll make an assumption that they checked the oil (which they changed only a few weeks ago) and other fluids (which are normally checked during oil changes). All that to say, no one 1) told me there was a $100/hour fee for labor, 2) common business courtesy would reveal that you shouldn't charge a patron for a mistake you made (leaves in the filter), and lastly, checking spark plugs doesn't cost $100. I actually prefer to help small businesses, but hidden costs and refusing to be upfront with customers is why individuals visit commercial shops for all of their car services. Although Barbosa's has a nice establishment, I'm afraid that their communication with the customer and transparency about their pricing and process is a bit lackluster and outdated. I'll probably never visit the establishment again, but future patrons should be aware. And to be even more honest, finding any decent and honorable car shop in Providence is even more of a joke than it should be.

    Let me tell you a story about Melvin's Tire and Auto, 10 School Street, Seekonk MA 02771. Let me…read morestart off by saying I've been a customer of theirs for over 20 years. About four months ago I was shopping for a set of new tires. I was informed the tires I wanted; Good Year Eagle Sport was discontinued. So, I settled for set of Continental Cross Contact LX Sport. I freaking hate these tires, and I gave them a bad review, but that's another story. Two days ago, I had a tire blowout. So, bright and early the next morning, I went to Melvin's Tire and told them my story of about my tires, including how much I hate the tires they sold me. They told me that the Good Year Eagle Sport were still available. So this means I was lied to and I settled for a set of Continentals, so be it! The bottom line here is that I needed a new tire in a hurry. Simple right? I use my car for work. I was told by the person who calls himself a manager, that the tire is under the manufacturer's warranty, but that there was a process and the process would take about three hours. I drove off on my space saver spare and waited for a call I never got. After 6 hours, I returned to learn what was being done. As it turns out, more information was needed, so he went outside, measured the tread depth of my remaining three tires, then he recorded my milage. Fine. I needed to leave to go to an appointment. I informed him I'd come back after my appointment. When I returned, . . I learned that the manufacturer would give me a 50% discount on a new tire, fine, but then I learn they didn't bother to order my tire because they needed a $25 deposit! WTF! Now I'm pissed. I need a F'n tire, I'm losing $200 per day at my job because I am not driving. He told me he'd call me when the tire comes in. So, the next morning, I waited until 11:30, still no call, another day of lose income. To make matters worse, my invoice showed the remaining balance was $259.21. This is not a 50% discount! I paid $220 full price just four months ago. What the hell kind of operation are you running? I believe they raised the price per tire and the gave me a 50% discount, effectively erasing the discount. Melvin's Tire and Auto is a shady scam operation. After 20 years of saying good things about them, Melvin's Tire and Auto in Seekonk MA lost me as a customer forever. First, they told me me the tires I wanted were discontinued, while they were not! Now I'm was delayed from getting back on the road because these people can't seem to get out of their own way. This should have been an easy problem to solve; I should have been back on the road the following day. I will take my business elsewhere, forever!
