The car was brought in only to have transmission fluid replaced. The car was left at Walter's shop for about 7 hours. When the car was picked up, the odometer showed the car was driven 3 miles after the car was dropped off. My husband called Walter to ask if there is a reason why the car was driven. Walter said sometimes it is for the transmission fluid replacement. My husband, without disclosing the miles the car was driven, asked Walter how far they would typically drive a vehicle. Walter said no more than a mile. At that moment, my husband disclosed that the car was driven 3 miles (we live less than 2 miles away from his shop). Walter then changed his reasoning, to "well we want to make sure you didn't leave us with a messed up vehicle and then tell us we messed it up." His reasoning was completely illogical. We only went to have the transmission oil replaced. Was he trying to suggest that my husband looked like a shady person? Our car insurance doesn't cover him or his employees to be driving the car. Anything could have happened during the 3 miles the car was driven. For all we know, either Walter or one of his employees took it out to run an errand. Maybe instead of coming up with poor excuses, Walter should have apologized and told my husband he will look into why the car was driven. Do not trust Walter or his employees. read more

Quick summary: Hands down the best service and quality of work in Southern CA. His attention to you as a customer and the transparency in his work along with his knowledge of transmissions really give you peace of mind . Okay so I bought a (new to me) 2014 Silverado back in 2019. As I was going through the research process I joined multiple Facebook groups regarding the Silverados. The one thing that became obvious was that the 6l80 transmissions aren't all that great. In reading one of those posts someone had posted that they had gotten their transmission rebuilt by Walter, they gave him and the shop high praises. I screenshot the name just to keep it handy in case I ever needed it. Well unfortunately that day came in 2014. My transmission produced some codes and my trans fluid was cooked, I decided to contact Walter. Right away he walked me through the process. He explained the codes that popped up and what things could have led to them. Overall, his approach to our conversation really convinced me to take my truck down to him all the way from Orange County. He told me exactly what he was going to do the truck. Since I have the 4.3 Silverado he installed a different torque converter in it but he went ahead and called me before he did it for transparency. It took about a week to get the truck back and let me tell you; it's running amazing!!! Hopefully I won't need another rebuild anytime soon but I will be taking the truck to him for scheduled maintenance. Again, since I kinda had done my research in the 2014 Silverado 1500, I had all kinds of questions regarding towing, trans fluid operating temps, and everything thing in between and Walter was amazing at answering my questions and guiding me through the process. So glad to have my freaken truck back and running better than when I had purchased it. read more

I decided to give Him a call after seeing a lot of good reviews, and a recommendation on an online diesel forum. I described my issue over the phone, and after taking it for a test drive, turns out that it is time for a rebuild... I went in to drop the truck off, and talked with Walter for a few minutes. Great place and reliable My transmission was slipping and other things need to be worked on my Jeep has 150,000+ miles and those I buy another one well after seeing multiple dealerships I got very tired of the bait and sweet at the last minute and also they told me my Jeep was only worth $200 but kelly blue book said $2,000. His dad had a very successful transmission shop and his brother designed and manufactures a race transmission that will always be found in the winning race trucks in Baja. Walter specialises in building long lasting transmissions for cars and trucks.. Including high powered diesel pickups.. Some of his customers are running 1000 HP. He built a transmission for my friends Dodge Cummins pickup and it now has 300,000 miles on the transmission he built. He did my transmission and I am sure that it will last also. Was in & out of his shop for a month Walter told me it will be done in three days . came in for a squeak in transfer case he got rid of the squeaking in 3 days then he messed up my 4 low when, that was working just fine when I bought it to him. so I had to pay him more money to fix what he did wrong. When other guy , very nice, who put my drive shaft back on. told some a-hole to move his car & told the mechanic no, I went over & told him to please move your car. I have to get to a job . The guy & Walter didn't have to be a- hole's when I paid him a lot of money to get the job done wright the first time, but I had to go back, & get charged more money for parts I didn't need. 4 low was working great. 5 star is B/S took a month to get the job done wright. give this place F - read more

My 2002 Ford Explorer was having transmission troubles way too soon after another big trans company that starts with two AA's completely rebuilt it (less than 65,000mi earlier, and I bought their lifetime warranty which I lost the receipt so they wouldn't honor the warranty, so if you ever go with the big company that starts with two A"s and pay extra for the lifetime warranty, don't lose the receipt).. I started working on the 5R55W transmission myself to try and remedy an O/D shifting shudder. After talking to a Transgo tech rep, (Transgo's a company that makes high quality shift-kits for various vehicles) and explaining my problem, the Transgo rep said they highly recommended a transmission shop about 45mi from my house, Walter's Transmission Shop. They gave me the phone number to Walter's and I talked to Walter. Very courteous and open to listen to what I had going on with my Explorer. We set up a time to bring in the vehicle and it was totally worth the distance driven. Walter and his crew had my vehicle diagnosed and fixed within a day. The big company that starts with two A's wanted over $2,200.00 for a complete rebuild, and that isn't including parts once inside the transmission. Walter was very transparent showing me what was wrong with my vehicle once it was all done by showing me the parts replaced and explained everything. HERE'S THE GOOD PART, it cost less than half the other company was quoting me. Walter and his crew are trustworthy and fair.
