I became a customer / client of 1st Choice Autoworks through Chris Tusow at SubiWorks, next door. Chris has been the only mechanic to mod, work on, or do anything with my heavily modified, camping, overlanding, off-roading builds...I'm really particular and developed a really close working relationship and friendship with Chris. Last year, he decided to branch off and focus primarily on mods, custom builds, and speciality work on Subarus whiling changing the name of the business to RFC Industries. In doing this, he sold the service side (oil changes, tire rotations, basic repairs, etc.) of his business to 1st Choice Autoworks. So I've been coming to them for the non-off roading specific stuff that Chris still does for me. Luke and everyone else here is incredibly kind, knowledgable, and professional. This past weekend, I panicked since I'm leaving for an extended work trip (1.5 months) which involves my heavily modded Subaru Forester and I had an axle issue days before I was supposed to leave. I texted Chris over the weekend and he said come to 1st Choice by 8:00am on Monday. I didn't have an appointment, and just showed up. And this isn't my style. I'm usually so highly organized and do my best to be respectful, schedule appointments, and go through the proper channels. But I woke up at 6:00am and was in Murrieta by 8:00am. I explained my situation and they were so accommodating and understanding and kind. It took all day but they helped me out and got my car back in good health and I'm so thankful they were cool with me just showing up. This shop is trustworthy, professional, and now is really familiar with off-roading and modded, lifted Subarus due to SubiWorks' and Chris' involvement. This shop has my trust. It was easy to get an appointment and they seem knowledgeable and honest. A previous (questionable) shop had given me a pricey quote for some suspension work they said needed to be done. I didn't like that first place so I waited on it (and I worried about it a lot!). My friend referred me to this shop, where they had done his brakes at a good price. I took my car in and one of the owners (Luke) helped me out. I told him the story of the previous quote, but said let's start from scratch, bc those last guys were sketchy. Luke put the car on the rack, then came back in with a look on his face as if to say, "you're not going to believe this." I had no idea what was about to happen. I was dreading how costly it might be - I had delayed the repair by months. We looked under my car to see these supposedly cracked & leaking tie-rod boots and other issues... and everything was IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. Which makes sense bc my car has only about 50k miles. Saved me tons of money (that would have been wasted if I had trusted the other place). Highly recommend!!! I called to ask if I can bring my car in to have my heater checked because it was only blowing hot air on the passenger side. I spoke with Lucas and he said to bring it in for a diagnostic test. Upon arrival I was able to find parking right in front with a sign on a cone specifically for their business. I'd been looking for someone to do some minor work on my daughter's car, and was running into a lot of this new revenue stream idea where shops will diagnose, CHARGE you for the diagnosis, and then either apply it to the repair, OR, you pay for BOTH the diagnosis AND the repair. No bueno. Hard pass. 1st Choice Autoworks was great to work with... none of the charge-for-diagnosis nonsense. They even did some shopping around for me for a part with a few dealers in the area! This is rare these days in my experience... Friendly, helpful staff... they squeezed us in quickly, didn't try to upsell, and just took care of the problem. I can't say enough positive things about this place. I have not had a lot of interaction with others that work there (though I am sure the experience is the same), but working with Luke has been wonderful and consistent, in which he is honest, knowledgeable, and has great communication. Luke always thoroughly explains what's going on with the car, and leads with information that doesn't always require costly repairs and additional fixes. On many occasions he has let me know when he doesn't think something needs to be replaced, and where another cost effective option can be done, which I truly appreciate. They also have a nice system to share estimates and quotes, which also includes pictures and videos as necessary to help make decisions. Helpful for me because I am not a car person! I found 1st Choice when we had issues from the dealer who we went to for original repairs and maintenance. Not only did they fix what I needed at a fair price, but they alerted us to the fact that the dealer never fixed what they said they would, which was instrumental in us being able to complain and get rectification from the dealer for their mistakes. In a world of dishonest repair shops or experiences where you feel like you are just being upsold repairs you may not need, it is so refreshing to know places like this are still out there. I can't speak to any particular expertise, but I own a Subaru, and I know they are very knowledgeable about Subarus, though I am sure they can fix any other brand. read more

Luke was awesome, I've never written a review or felt that coming to a specific mechanic / location mattered however these guys changed my mind. They got me in same day, explained everything that I needed and saved me money at the same time. Needed a valve cover gasket fixed and they got it done well priced. I also asked them with potentially getting help installing an exterior door handle piece , only casually to see how much it would cost me since Honda wanted 120$ to get it done. Luke said he would look into it. The handle piece is one screw accessible from the outside. Seems like a 5 min thing I couldn't get it. I understand it's a business and expected to pay something for their help. Luke did it for free. I'll be coming here if I ever need repairs. read more

After taking our cars to the dealership for maintenance for multiple years, we decided we needed a shop change once we started having recurring/long-lasting issues with our cars (one 300k+ and the other 500k+) and we couldn't keep up with the prices that they were charging. Long story short, I was having an issue with the AC blowing hot air in my car. Dealership said that "the lines were contaminated" and the only option would be to replace the entire AC system which would be a $7k hit (worth more than the value of the car). Obviously, we didn't go through with it but 1st Choice gave me a completely different answer and said that it was mainly an electrical issue which they fixed the day of. Took the 500k+ car in recently and they gave us a straightforward answer that the dealership couldn't. Because of this, we've been extremely happy with the work that 1st Choice has put on our cars and it's a lot cheaper than what the dealership was charging us. I met with Lucas and gave me the run down on the problem ..there 2 hoses that were leaking causing the The actuator is not performed correctly he replaced the hoses that were cracked and the problem was solved.. and did it at no charge...wat a nice guy !!!!
