Each nearby park I have strolled, jogged or bike ridden through has had somewhat if a facelift. From miniscule improvements like new brickwork and the planting of flower beds to a beautiful new running track, such as Victory Field received. Surrounding the hybred rubber clay surface of the well defined white lined lanes there are areas for additional physical exercise needs. You can do situp's, pullup's pushups, crunches without having to lay in the dirt. The baseball field was redone within the same time frame and as I pass by on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I enjoy looking at the excitement of the young ball players on the field With an elevated mound the pitcher looks in deep at the catchers signs and quisically shakes him off. It must feel like Yankee Stadium to the teams that play on the artificial turf, although Yankee Stadium is natural grass. Handball courts are always brimming with energy and competition. When I was coming up, all the best players played here and I still enjoy taking a quick seat on one of the clean and structurally sound park benches under the mighty Silver Oaks with my dog to watch a game.

Plenty of space to roam with a large area that holds concerts sponsored by the NYC parks dept , large baseball and football field, playground area for kiddies , sections to have picnics and barbecues, etc. well maintained by the parks dept and police roam along frequently which I assume is routine. Obviously it's next to the Queensboro Bridge of course. Their sometimes will be concerts and there's some athletic fields. Convenient to get to from the Queens end of the bridge. It basically is the area north of it. This is along the East River. Across it you can see Manhattan. Between this is Roosevelt Island. This view is the best part. It gets kind of noisy because of the traffic from the bridge. This isn't exactly such a good place for hanging out and chilling. It only takes a few minutes getting to once you get off the bridge. Other than concerts there's not much to see in the park itself. There's athletic fields and a playground.

It is a fairly big park for neighborhood park standards but is full of too much empty space. The main reason to come here are the basketball courts. They actually have several full courts and most of the time, several of these courts that are empty. This is not easy to find.

At some point we all looked to venture outside of our neighborhood boarders, seeking an excitement unknown. Some of the kids began talking of Hoffman Park which although a mere mile and change from my area seemed quite a distance away. During the day we played some pick up basketball but on weekend nights, Hoffman was a Heavy Metal hangout area. Meeting young new people every weekend in a public park, undisturbed, seems like a lawless existance today but rather common back in the day. Talk about living in the past! Me thinks me needs to stop back at Hoffman soon and hang out a little while for an updated perspective, sitting this time with an Earl Grey in place of a Meister Brau.

Beautiful view of the river. This is a lot quieter than the bigger park but it still gets many visitors. Almost feels like this is the same as Astoria Park since they're both close. In fact, you can easily miss a small sign with the name of this park. There's not nearly as much space. It means less people come. The park is along the East River. It's nice seeing the river even thigh it's not quite a good area. The other side of the river isn't pretty, with industrial stuff. It still is nice to spend time in. It has a few benches and the river still looks nice. The area is mostly safe but you always need to be mindful of any surroundings.

Not by pretty fences, there are few pretty fences but by the construction KEEP OUT kind. The tall stone seating area with the little hiding spots were cool as a kid playing ringalevio. I also torched some thrown away Christmas trees there too. Probably not a good idea but I was a troubled youth and butane was super cheap. When the fences came down, a new more modern park appeared, it was wide open and there were new benches and a water fountain. The elderly but spunky old gentleman that lived in the big house across the street, just northwest used to drag his garden hose across the street a few times a week, his name was Ian. I didn't know that, I just knew him as the man with the hose that was on a mission. A mission of beautification and conservation and today his hard work is memorialized by the renaming and a sign that bears his name too.

I've…read morealways been fascinated by how this city's neighborhoods, streets, and transit developed; this park is an excellent reminder of days gone by. it's a simple park (just grass, trees, and a few benches), but named after a complex and interesting man. a New York City local boy who was, at various points in his life, a media mogul, a magician, a World War One artillery sergeant, a politician, and an important member of Queens' American Legion community. when I walked by last week, saw a few people sitting there, drinking coffee, reading the paper, just relaxing. it seems well maintained, though that could also be due to its location. a nice break from - and yet right in the middle of - the hustle and bustle of city life. posts with horse-heads on top, clutching rings in their mouths, appear all around the perimeter of this Triangle. Trotting Course Lane, as it turns out, dates back to the days of horse and carriage; it was eventually straightened and made into Woodhaven Boulevard for those magnificent men in their driving machines, but a remnant of the original Lane itself is still there as a residential street intersecting Woodhaven. sidenote: I spent a good ten minutes hunting down the information necessary for this review, methodically going through Google Maps, Forgotten NY, the NYC Parks Department, and FourSquare. technology is wonderful, ainnit?

This park served us, the wild but respectful teenagers of the area quite well for many years. My friend lived in the corner house off the Woodhaven side and many a hot summer night we would spill out onto the Triangle for a reprieve from the indoors. As I drive by now and peer over for a quick glance its great to see the upkeep continuing and improvments being made for the next group to enjoy. Although not a park for young children nor dogs as there is too many cars in constant motion on two sides, it sure is a nice late evening and/or early morning destination before the traffic brings the noise pollution.

Wish there was a bathroom in this park, that's the only down fall. This place is a hidden gem because its in between the streets.
