Still, I kept taking her there every now and then, even though she always needed a bath afterward from all the loose dirt, if only just to get her out and interacting with other dogs. I eventually got fed up with it, and the lack of playmates (I'd be lucky if there was even one other dog there), and took to Yelp to find an alternative. So I found Sherry Park. By far better than a dirt patch, it's a healthy-sized concrete park encircled by benches, trees and several chess-top tables, with a tree-covered hillside at the far end. Even better, almost always a steady rotation of dogs coming and going, or, as far as my dog's concerned, some fresh new butts to sniff. Notable features include: a sturdy double-gate entry (keep one closed at all times, or one of the more dedicated regulars will pounce!), a water fountain that serves both human and canine alike, water hoses, kiddie pools, brooms and scoops. It is right at the crossroads of the BQE, Queens Blvd and the LIRR, but despite that the road noise isn't terrible. It's *just* far enough away to be too far for me to walk, but close enough to be a quick bike ride, so I invested in a backpack dog carrier and make it a point to come spend a few hours here every weekend and let my dog fulfill her weekly butt-sniffing quota and run away from dogs half her size.

The first two times he was traumatized by the interaction from the other active and playful dogs. However, by the third visit, he was running and playing with a few of the dogs. I'm a first time dog owner, so the park looks fine to me. It's large enough for the dogs to interact with each other or venture to the side by themselves. I've met some amazing dog owners who have all been very friendly and helpful. Definitely bring your own water because I didn't see where you can fill the bowls they have in the park. They have a few benches for you to sit while the dogs play. I wish I lived closer to this park to take Milo more often. However, it will be my go to spot for him. Oh and each time I've taken Milo to the park, he sleeps like a baby at night. woo hoo!

I did my research and decided on Forest Park Barking Lot, and was also told that they had just reopened from renovations. It was also nice of the President to email me back when I sent an inquiry about if the lot was opened again. We've come with our pup twice, and he always takes a well deserved nap (and bath) both times. There's a large and small dog area, which is great if small dog owners want to make sure their dogs don't get trampled by the large ones! The park is great, there is nothing negative about the park itself. I haven't seen any dog poo just chilling in the park. It seems well managed. Some of the owners are very friendly as well. I think the watering hole is closed for the winter coming, so bring your own water! The only thing is that the two times we've been there, the same unneutered dogs seem to instigate humping that turns into fights. It's unfortunate, but some owners aren't very vigilant in watching their dogs and let the fights break out. We've seen two dog fights in which the owner of the ones being humped excessively, scream as they try to take their dog back. Most dogs tend to leave the park post fights. It ruins the whole park vibe when this happens, and isn't fair to others when we all just want our pups to have a good time.

Five, structurally intact, well placed wooden benches allow for panoramic views or just a spot to plop down for a moment. The secondary and smaller fenced in section provides small dog owners the option if the full size portion had large breeds playing roughly. The street light on the landing of the stairwell of the bridge allows significant illumination inside the park. The double gates is exactly what all dog runs should incorporate into their infrastructure. Allowing the dog owner to leash or unleash in this quite ample staging area. Eight foot high fences insulates any dog from harm that may occur from the outskirts and keep potential riff raff on the outside. Great to meet Cloe and Bandit as they and their owners were the first pups and folks I was fortunate enough to meet.

He left the park with his dog only to return and was displaying same aggressive behavior. Instead of bringing the dog to the empty, smaller portion of the park he proceeded into the larger park. The golden doodle bit my dogs ear and the owner did not restrain him until later on when he saw the bleeding and that I was trying to leash up my pup. When I had my back turned, he left the park swiftly with his dog. Will not return to this park and I would avoid that dog if you see him. Such a shame because my dog got along with various sizes, breeds, and gendered dogs.
