It's a dog's world. For the longest time I thought the only outlet for canine social interaction for my dog would be the microscopic strip of dirt in Veteran's Grove that left me wondering "why bother"? Still, I kept taking her there every now and then, even though she always needed a bath afterward from all the loose dirt, if only just to get her out and interacting with other dogs. I eventually got fed up with it, and the lack of playmates (I'd be lucky if there was even one other dog there), and took to Yelp to find an alternative. So I found Sherry Park. By far better than a dirt patch, it's a healthy-sized concrete park encircled by benches, trees and several chess-top tables, with a tree-covered hillside at the far end. Even better, almost always a steady rotation of dogs coming and going, or, as far as my dog's concerned, some fresh new butts to sniff. Notable features include: a sturdy double-gate entry (keep one closed at all times, or one of the more dedicated regulars will pounce!), a water fountain that serves both human and canine alike, water hoses, kiddie pools, brooms and scoops. It is right at the crossroads of the BQE, Queens Blvd and the LIRR, but despite that the road noise isn't terrible. It's *just* far enough away to be too far for me to walk, but close enough to be a quick bike ride, so I invested in a backpack dog carrier and make it a point to come spend a few hours here every weekend and let my dog fulfill her weekly butt-sniffing quota and run away from dogs half her size. read more

I used to live in Woodside and was so happy to find Sherry Park! Now that I moved a few neighborhoods down, I'm sad I don't get to go there everyday, but the weekends are a must. Everyone is friendly and most of the dogs are well-behaved (some of the people are not, but you can't win 'em all). I've seen this park through the worst and best. The best being that everyone helps to clean it up when needed by putting in planters, picking up random trash, making and putting up signs, writing to the Community and Parks Center to get things upgraded, stuff like that. The most recent change was a fountain for humans and a fountain for dogs! Keep in mind, it only runs during the summer days. Plus people pitched in to buy kiddie pools for the kids (and by kids, I mean our dogs) and I love that the floor isn't just dirt. Best dog park that I've been to! read more

This park is absolutely great! It's always shaded no matter how hot it is. It's clean and normally has a lot of space for multiple dogs to run around and play. The entrance gate is a little confusing however & super heavy to life to get inside and out. read more

Honestly, this place could use a little more grass and be a little cleaner but for a dog park near so many major roads and highways, I think this quaint little place is perfect. I yelp'd some places to take my dog on a Thursday morning since he was tearing up the house and I was tired from trying to exhaust his energy on my own. I found this little gem on Yelp and since it was nearby my house, I thought why not? There is plenty of parking around the neighborhood on both sides of the BQE, so driving there wasn't really a problem. However, I did have a little trouble finding the place. There are two gates you have to cross before you enter the park which I think is perfect, and is considerate of all our babies' safety considering outside is a busy road where they could easily get hit! Please close each door before opening the next door!! The main play area is mostly cement, which I heard from another owner helps file their nails.. I didn't know that going in, but knowing that going out compels me to come even more! The water, as many reviews have said, is turned off during the winter. Most dog owners will bring their own bottled water and are very generous about sharing it with you. There are already a couple of big steel water/food bowls readily available to you (in case you didn't have your own little portable food bowl). The people who come here are really kind, both owners and dogs. The owners will bring toys here which dogs can use to cooperatively play together. I'm definitely extremely excited to come back in the summer to see how Mango likes the kiddy pools!! read more

Best doggie park in Queens. I bring my dog Simba there all the time. Met many wonderful dog owners and had a wonderful Halloween costumes party for our dogs. There is no other dog park in the area like this. You will feel comfortable bringing your dog to this park and sit for an hour without having to worry about your dog getting into fights. Most of the time the dogs will be playing and the owners would be standing around chatting. read more

This park is pretty nice. The dogs there were friendly, there are little pools for dogs, its a gated space, it has a dirt hill and it's pretty big. My pup and I love this park. I used to run her over (It's about a mile from my apartment) when I could, but now that I'm temporarily handicapped, we'll just drive here which works just fine. Penny is a really shy/fearful so she doesn't do well at other runs, where dogs are cramped in together. Sherry park is big enough so she can do her own thing and not be afraid of the bigger dogs coming too close uninvited. She really loves the dirt hill, as she's usually the most agile pup in the park and can weave through the trees and shrubs quickly and safely. Most owners are very nice and mindful, but you occasionally have a dog that in tact and extremely energetic, and sometimes just dogs that don't get along. That's unavoidable. The few drawbacks to this park are that it's big, so sometimes owners miss their dog's shit, and there can be some unhealthy garbage floating around. I think Penny ate a slim jim last time. Also, there's some broken glass on the dirt hill but I've never seen any dog get cut. Kind of amazing. read more

My mastiff loves this place and so do I. Dogs of all shapes and sizes, dogs and humans are all well socialized and well-behaved. Concrete flooring is throughout, there's a small steep hilly dirt area. Water fountain readily available. The area concerned me: so close to such busy roads but the fencing is well made and I feel safe having my dog run around knowing there is no hole she can escape through (though she wouldn't fit anyways because she's too big). Brought my pup here yesterday for her first birthday because of all the good ratings this place has. It was way further then the other dog parks near me, but I figured if it has good ratings, it must be good. And I wouldn't mind going out of the way for my dog to have more fun since it's her birthday. But when I got here, it was empty and nothing like the pictures. There was only one other dog here. I mean i guess it is understandable because it is kind of too cold out for dogs to play, but it just seemed like a regular dog park, nothing special. This is the closest dog park to me. My dog, Arrow, was rescued from a shelter and is terrified of other dogs. I bring him here to get him accustomed to being around other dogs without freaking out. Normally he sticks to my leg like velcro but last week we made progress! He actually started fetching his ball and barked less at other dogs. UNTIL this un-neutered yorkie came in and was OBSESSED with Arrow's butt. Needless to say, all that progress went down the drain. I foster dogs, and if I think they are up for it, I really like bringing them to this park. The vast majority of patrons at this park are very well behaved and sociable (owners and other dogs) so the only thing I have to worry about is my own dog's behavior. The park is generally clean and tidy, although it can get a bit poopy around the edges where leaves tend to pile up and occasionally it gets a bit trashy. However, there is an active group of people who regularly attend the park who work together to try to keep the place as clean as possible. There are also brushes and shovels provided so that if you feel inclined, you can pitch in and help. There are multiple trash cans, a water fountain (not on in colder months), water bowls, tennis balls, and kiddie pools in the summer. HOWEVER, the dirt hill is a death trap. It is studded with broken glass that is sharp and protrudes from the soil. I don't let my dog up there since he has been cut a few times, so do yourself a favor and don't let your dog on the hill. read more

I really like this run, it is very large and my dog loves coming here. There is a hill with trees that she loves to run through and chase other dogs around. The only bad part about this park is the filling on the dirt hill has some glass but I haven't seen a dog get cut from it. They have two big kiddie pools that the dogs love to run & jump in, and owners are good about keeping them cleaned. It is large enough that dogs can have their own space and play separately. There are garbage cans and running water along with rakes and shovels to clean up. It can be loud with the traffic from Queens Blvd. and the LIRR tracks so close but the dogs can bark and be as loud as they want without any complaints. I just recently started bring my dog blue over here and he loves it! I just feel his soul light up when he plays with other dogs. The place is Ideal for me because i have a 1 year old German Shepard at 100 pounds. He needs all the space he needs to exercise and run around. This park is spacious and very clean. No need to worry about your dog picking up garbage and stuff. There are also mini kid swimming pools that the dogs can dip into and a running hose where you can rinse your dog off and have a mini shower. Disgusting and dirty. This park is maintained by the Parks dept. So expect cleaning products with toxins to be in the corner where the dogs have easy access. The hill inside is mainly dirt however I found broken glass and what seems like booze bottles left behind from the hobos sleeping the night before. This park is near the expressway/highway so don't expect peace, rather then that it sounds much like a busy highway. The people seem biter and not conversational at all. read more
