During the summer evenings, we loved coming here to watch the sunset over the water. Huge lawn area where you can park your picnic blanket and throw a football or kick a soccer ball around. You can always get a handball court and you know those are hard to come by in nyc parks. Their 5 basketball court is alwaysssss busyyyyyyyyyyyyy. But ordinarily, it's welcoming. I meet people who tend to frequent this park from other neighborhoods. During the summer, friends of Francis Lewis do an awesome job setting up events like a summer concert etc. all year around as a matter of fact. They be hosting Halloween parties, block parties etc. This group is friendly, dedicated and awesome! They're always committed to gardening and cleaning the park. Very friendly group. Parking can be a bit of a pain, but if you're willing to walk, parking by the Whitestone expwy would be the way to go. Last but not least, I love watching the bocce players. They play a serious game. Not many parks have bocce, like spaghetti park, so this a gem.

So I'm starting out by praising the park as a concert venue to make up for my gripes about Central Park and PNC Bank Arts Center. I enjoyed the free De La Soul show here, which had good sound quality and a pleasant setup where you could opt for a close-up viewing of Eye Know and Me Myself and I or just roam around and still hear it. I wish I remembered who had the Yelp reviews that mostly focused on bathrooms, but park regulars know about the bathroom sort of near the LIRR train. It's not as glamorous or as clean as Bryant Park but it's mostly ok and open later than one might expect. The park isn't offering a wilderness facsimile like parts of Prospect Park but you can see birds and there are nice plants. The Unisphere is legendary.

The park offers plenty of green space and walking paths to explore. You can also visit the iconic Unisphere, a giant globe leftover from the 1960s New York World's Fair. For western bound, take exit 32 toward Bell Blvd. At the traffic light, turn right. This parcel was acquired in Septmber 1950. The plan was to develope the shoreline area. However, it didn't carry out due to the Throgs Neck Bridge construction and the fiscal crisis of the 1970s. And Parks renamed the property's present name in 1973, from Clearview Park. Bayside, originally inhabited by the Matinecock tribe, was granted to William Lawrence by King Charles I in 1644, spurring European settlement. It became part of Queens County in 1683. Most early records were lost in an 1780s fire linked to arson. During the Revolutionary War, Bayside supported the British and faced two failed Patriot raids. The arrival of the North Shore Railroad in 1866 brought rapid growth, attracting wealthy New Yorkers and actors. After the film industry moved to California in the 1920s, Bayside's economy relied on the Little Neck shellfish beds.

The much larger western side has all of the sports fields, courts, playgrounds, facilities, and plenty of seating areas. It's always busy no matter the weather or time of day, with everything from afterschool sports to dog meet-ups to people jogging. The main seating area (above the baseball fields) includes a 9/11 memorial, and on a clear day, you can get a view of the Empire State Building. The smaller eastern section is the quieter, "no active sports" area. It has more trees and a few benches, making it a peaceful spot to sit and relax. There is a walking path that circles and winds through the entirety of Juniper Valley. The outer path on the perimeter is about a mile and a half and makes for a great place to walk or run without having to dodge cars. It's also pretty scenic, with many beautiful brick homes lining the park.

I yelp'd some places to take my dog on a Thursday morning since he was tearing up the house and I was tired from trying to exhaust his energy on my own. I found this little gem on Yelp and since it was nearby my house, I thought why not? There is plenty of parking around the neighborhood on both sides of the BQE, so driving there wasn't really a problem. However, I did have a little trouble finding the place. There are two gates you have to cross before you enter the park which I think is perfect, and is considerate of all our babies' safety considering outside is a busy road where they could easily get hit! Please close each door before opening the next door!! The main play area is mostly cement, which I heard from another owner helps file their nails.. I didn't know that going in, but knowing that going out compels me to come even more! The water, as many reviews have said, is turned off during the winter. Most dog owners will bring their own bottled water and are very generous about sharing it with you. There are already a couple of big steel water/food bowls readily available to you (in case you didn't have your own little portable food bowl). The people who come here are really kind, both owners and dogs. The owners will bring toys here which dogs can use to cooperatively play together. I'm definitely extremely excited to come back in the summer to see how Mango likes the kiddy pools!!

I've taken my puppy, Milo here a few times and I love the dog park. I love that there are two…read moresections, one for the bigger dogs and one for the small dogs. The first two times he was traumatized by the interaction from the other active and playful dogs. However, by the third visit, he was running and playing with a few of the dogs. I'm a first time dog owner, so the park looks fine to me. It's large enough for the dogs to interact with each other or venture to the side by themselves. I've met some amazing dog owners who have all been very friendly and helpful. Definitely bring your own water because I didn't see where you can fill the bowls they have in the park. They have a few benches for you to sit while the dogs play. I wish I lived closer to this park to take Milo more often. However, it will be my go to spot for him. Oh and each time I've taken Milo to the park, he sleeps like a baby at night. woo hoo!

I did my research and decided on Forest Park Barking Lot, and was also told that they had just reopened from renovations. It was also nice of the President to email me back when I sent an inquiry about if the lot was opened again. We've come with our pup twice, and he always takes a well deserved nap (and bath) both times. There's a large and small dog area, which is great if small dog owners want to make sure their dogs don't get trampled by the large ones! The park is great, there is nothing negative about the park itself. I haven't seen any dog poo just chilling in the park. It seems well managed. Some of the owners are very friendly as well. I think the watering hole is closed for the winter coming, so bring your own water! The only thing is that the two times we've been there, the same unneutered dogs seem to instigate humping that turns into fights. It's unfortunate, but some owners aren't very vigilant in watching their dogs and let the fights break out. We've seen two dog fights in which the owner of the ones being humped excessively, scream as they try to take their dog back. Most dogs tend to leave the park post fights. It ruins the whole park vibe when this happens, and isn't fair to others when we all just want our pups to have a good time.

I particularly enjoy running through the waterfront to soak up the beautiful views. The scenery makes the run a little easier. You will also catch amazing sunsets. There is plenty to do here as well: playground, a soccer field, a running track, a skate park, and courts for tennis and basketball. Come by in the evening and the park is alive. Runners, rollerbladers, bikers, skaters all sharing the paths. It's a vibrant scene!

The Hell Gate, with its big red steel arch, actually looks damn impressive, especially when the light hits it right around sunset. This park just kind of sits there letting the water run by and wether walking by or just sitting down, its an impressive and calming place with the right person on a midsummer night. ​You walk along the concrete promenade by the railing and you see all kinds of people. Couples taking pictures, kids yelling, guys sitting on benches thinking about whatever. It's got these giant green lawns where people just lay around. I hear that there's this massive outdoor pool that gets completely jammed in the summer, but I've never been nor do i intend to. ​It's just grass, trees, a breeze off the water, and trains occasionally rumbling over the bridge high above your head. It kills me how peaceful it can get right under all that heavy machinery. If you have to be around people in Queens, this is probably one of the least depressing places to do it. It really is.

There are no sharp inclines or steep, rocky hills. I like to walk these trails to admire nature and all it's worth. The lake that I came across while walking today made me want to jump in and swim(not sure if that's allowed). Aside from the trails, there are other little playgrounds in the area that might appeal to children.

I like the availability of car parking and multiple entrances, though some trails are better than others. The best part that I enjoy in this park is it marks the start/end of the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway trail path, it is historic, a scenic trail for walking, running, and biking, a beautiful, green space that offers a break from the city, and the paved path connects it to other parks. The trail path extends about 3 miles which makes it a 6 miles trekking distance out and back. In most weekend mornings, there is a great chance that you might see me walking/biking on this trail, so, see you there.
