We came here today for the annual Pumpkin Smash event hosted by NYC Compost Project And Queens Botanical Garden. Parking: residential/ Meter street parking. Either way: Good luck to you! Outside the park was a farmer market. Fresh produce and bakery. Free books. Balloon artist made balloons in return for donations. Park itself has ball courts and playground. The mist sprayer was on in November for some reason. Plenty of benches for parents. Playground feels little outdated. Pumpkin Smash event included pumpkin trebuchet, manual chop up of pumpkins, free recycling bag giveaway, free apple cider, booths to explain compost and a free bag of compost. Recycling can Mascot was out to take pictures with crowd. Pumpkin trebuchet was definitely most fun. Definitely will return again. read more

I don't even own a dog and I love the doggy vibe of Lou Lodati Park. It reminds me a bit of people watching, except with a number of neighborhood dogs all playing in the same space. It is a must visit for all dog lovers and a great distraction for anyone in the area. Unfortunately, this is not a proper doggy park as it is fully concrete. Dogs are still able to run around and frolic amongst owners and other dogs, but there isn't much of an area to lay around. The park is still very clean and thanks to diligent dog owners, there isn't much dog poo in sight. There is both a smaller area for small'ish dogs to run around in as well as a larger area for further ball tosses and more room to run. There is no fee to use the park and it's definitely family friendly. There is limited bench seating for onlookers and owners who are just looking to take a brek. During the summers, there is water running from the hoses and occasionally the gates will have free pooper scooper plastic bags tied to them in case there are any ground poops. All in all, this is a great place to visit with or without a dog. read more

a nice family and non family park in queens in the Sunnyside area that has ample space to enjoy the weather as the little ones and doggies have fun. came here with the family dog and while he roamed around the secure dog section i was able to watch some basketball games go on for a bit .nice place to come and relax a bit and the mutt will love it as well. A playground for the kiddies with plenty of space and a farmers market happens once a week if I am not mistaken. Dogs will love it here and the running drinking water for the mutts is appreciated especially on hot summer days .The kids will love it , THE dogs will love it and the parents will love it here as well. Take away the older gentleman volunteer who clearly has a disdain for smaller animals, this is a great park. I won't go in if he's doing maintenance work because he's standoffish in a condescending way towards small dogs - especially if you're adjusting your smaller/midsize dogs to get along with bigger dogs. Dog owners are almost all wonderful. People clean up after their dogs and the city gives grants to the park. read more

My pup loves it here! When the weather agrees I take her out to this park. She loves meeting other dogs. She has a place to run around. Now, the SUDS community has grown, people now put plastic containers and fill them with water. This really helps as the weather gets hotter, our pups need water to refresh themselves. The park divides into 2 runs: One for the large dogs and the other for the small dogs. Unfortunately at times some small dog owners put their small dogs into the large dog run. This causes a tension between dogs. SUDS put up signs around the park to remind people of the community rules. Located on Skillman ave, it is a public dog park. On Saturday mornings when you bring your pup to this park, local vendors set up shop along the ave. As long as my pup enjoys this place, so do I. read more

This review is specifically for the dog park, not necessarily the other space where actual kids may play. I like that this location was considerate enough to make two different play area for larger dogs and smaller dogs. However, the play area for both the small dogs and large dogs is quite small.. Which is kind of a problem for me when it comes to accidents like urine, which must be immediately washed down with gallons of water they provide and poop must be picked up but the residue smell remains. They have poop bags available for you which I think is also very considerate, a nice touch to what my local dog park does not have! There is a lot of parking located near this park also, which I think is great. However, and just to be honest, I cannot overlook the apparent smell of weed that I experienced with my pup while at this park. read more

Finally, a decent dog park nearby! It's not the biggest of parks, but it's decent & well kept. They have a water fountain where dogs can also drink from (you can easily pour out the water and press the button there to refill the doggy fountain). They have tennis balls around so you can play with your dog, but that ball is pretty slobbery... maybe you'll wanna use your own ball.. and hope the ten other dogs don't create a stampede. Most owners are nice and are aware of their dog, like theyre supposed to. But then there ARE some owners that really don't pay attention and come off as very rude. If your dog is trying to hump my dog, and if my dog is clearly running away from it.. can't you please tell your dog to stop? No doggie rape, please. ): They have the big dog run, and the small dog run. Small dogs are still welcomed in the big dog run.. but beware--it gets crazy. The upgraded parks opens today, June 22nd at 11 AM. SUDS has worked hard with local City Councilman to get this project done, 12+ years in the making. The park looks great and clean! There is now a dog run, volleyball courts, softball diamond and half court basketball. Hopefully the park stays clean and is well taken care of going forward. Great job to everyone who put in the hardwork in making this happen. I'll be using the dog park and volleyball courts! I just went to this park for the first time today with my 12-pound Havanese pup, and was very happy with it. It has two sections -- one for small dogs and one for large dogs -- which I deeply appreciated. The people and dogs here were great. The owners were all very responsible, it's a clean area, there are water bottles until the water gets turned back on in the spring, and there are poop bags provided. These reviews are a good description of the small dog run. I went yesterday after reading them. The place was clean but the dog run was surrounded by fenced in garbage bins. There was water and water dishes available to the dogs. The dogs ran on concrete. The dog owners were friendly and responsible. My shihtzu made many friends and had a good time playing. Overall, I think this is a good park that accommodates dogs, children and teenagers. Since, there are no other options available in the area, I'm glad that the owners of the park make an effort to keep it nice. read more

Really nice dog park! I wish I would've found this place sooner. I live in Astoria and we don't have a nice dog park. I took my dogs here on a Friday late afternoon. At first it was only me, my dogs and a man and his dog but within 30 minutes about 20 dogs arrived!! The place is clean, spacious and the dogs are all well behaved. There's a small dog section too but it's kind of lame. Floors are nice but I did notice some blood. I think it's easy for dogs to rip their pad or grind down their nails when running around like lunatics. I'm going back here today to see what this place is like on a weekend. read more

I stumbled upon this place on my way to the Sunnyside Gardens complex on a Saturday afternoon, and the park was very lively. It's only a couple of blocks from the 7 train. read more

Awesome dog park. Clean, 2 water fountains and water bowls for the pups, a hose and broom for cleanup if a dog goes to the bathroom, everyone is pretty friendly. I bring my puppy almost everyday and he LOVES being there. They have a large dog section and a small dog section so everyone can play safely. And the surrounding park is always clean. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I wish it weren't concrete. My poor dogs nails get filed on the floor from running. I lived around the block from this park for over a year and I always had a good experience at this park with my pup. First, the people who come here are very down to earth, friendly, and truly care about their dogs as well as keeping the park clean. The park was started up by a community member years ago and still has a really strong Sunnyside community vibe in that everybody pitches in together to take on jobs at the park (such as watering plants or raking or filling up the doggy kitty pools, YES, kitty pools!). I also loved how there are two sections - one for bigger guys and one smaller. However, dogs mingle in both parks mostly seamlessly and there is hardly even a fight or incident. One thing I will say is that I wish there was grass... but all in all, a 5 star experience! read more

We've been to SEVERAL dog parks since moving to Flushing. As there are none nearby (HEELLLLLOOOO, Flushing! This means YOU!), we've had to travel via public trans to get to any of them. So we would say our metrics were close, clean, easy to find, and safe. This is the FIRST one we've been to that meets all that criteria and then some! (I wish we had gone to THIS one first!) Potty bags available as well as scoops if needed. A couple of plastic pools donated by the S.U.D.S group, water jugs for rinsing pee away, a hose with nozzle to fill jugs and pool, a water fountain for you and one for your dog! The BEST feature for summer time play is the turf. The organizers of the dog park looked and polled lots of parks and owners and found one EVERYONE likes because it reflects heat instead of collecting it to burn pups paws. There is a little dog area, if your pooch is small or only likes to play nice small dogs which in ratio to the tinier breeds gives them plenty of room to run as fast as they can! The larger dog area is as well sized, allowing lots of dogs room to run at the same time and have fun without bowling people over! Lots of benches for people to sit, some shaded by trees, other shaded by sun umbrellas. The people are nice, the area is nice and well-kept and we've decided THIS will be our doggie base of operation from now on! Woo hoo!!!! read more

Ground is a little rough on my pups feet, but they keep it clean and in general people are pretty respectful. There are a couple of owners that bring in some really rough dogs that don't belong unless they are watched carefully. We stopped by Lou Lodati Park this morning and loved it! The playground has a lot of swings, and play structures for big kids and little kids, and it's all clean and new and fresh. Next door was a dog run and a farmer's market (Saturdays). We've lived in Long Island City for 2 years now, and I can't believe this was our first trip to Sunnyside. We did a little walking tour, starting at Queens Blvd/46th St. to see the Art Deco arch, then walking north through Sunnyside Gardens, west to Lou Lodati park, and then back to Queens Blvd for brunch before heading home for a nap. It was a perfect kid-friendly urban adventure. We'll be back soon! read more

It is surprisingly spacious and the specially painted concrete really does keep the ground cool in the summer time to protect our pruppies pawz. Well managed and seems to be a favorite in the area and Queens residents. Been here over the past three weeks with our newly adopted pup, Pebbles. It's a nice space with two sides. Lots of pups and pup parents who care. There are tons of water for the dogs and brooms for any messes. Just be courteous and help refill the water bottles! Our pup likes to play fetch so it's nice ground for her to run on. Lots of variety of dogs throughout the day so my pup gets social time too. I usually stay for 30 mins. So grateful to have this public space. read more

This is the best dog park in Queens! Our dogs always have a fun time here and come home super tired, pooped out from all the fun! The dog park is attached to a big city playground and there's always tons of things going on around! There is relatively big open area for dogs and a smaller area for small dogs. There are double gates for both and there are also bags available for accidents. What is so great about this dog park are the amenities and its all thanks to the wonderful dog lovers of the community that have helped to make this place so awesome! There is a water fountain for dogs to have water and a hose to clean up the dog park in case your dog pees. During the summer, people have donated little pools for dogs to play in! The people are always nice here and it's so great watching the dogs play! There's plenty of benches around the dog park too! I'm so happy to have a place near by to bring my dog to socialize and be off leash. The concrete allows for easy cleanup, there are benches, water fountains (for both dogs and people), kiddy pools, bags provided and the separation between large and small breeds is very much appreciated. Sure, not all people watch their dog as closely as they should but that has nothing to do with the park and everything to do with the person. read more

My boyfriend and I recently adopted an older puppy and we have become regulars at this dog park. Almost everyone we have met here has been nice and has been very aware of their own pup's whereabouts and actions. I have only encountered 1 slightly out of control dog that showed some aggression towards other dogs. Also, the dog's owner didn't seem to have it under control and didn't clean up after he pooped (another dog owner went over to clean it up after realizing the dog's owner wasn't going to clean it up)- hopefully they are not regulars here!! The dog park isn't all that big, but it is well maintained and it allows for our pup to get some off leash exercise while socializing with other dogs. The seperation between the large and small dogs is a great idea however not everyone puts their dogs in the right pen. I am always worried when I see a small dog in with the bigger dogs. read more

Every community needs a dog park. This is the best one. I love that the community and local businesses help the park and donate goodies. I'm sure the dogs are so grateful for everything. It's a great space. Love coming here when its dark and getting some fresh air with my dog. I could sit here for hours just watching dogs play. Takes you away from the stress. Volunteers do an amazing job in making sure the park is well kept. Concrete is also great so animals don't come in contact with illnesses and diseases. Not your best playground but certainly not your worst. Actually a nice surprise when I took my toddler here was how much fun we had watching the dogs run around in the dog park. You can look down into the dog area from up above and the doggie action is as primordial as you might expect. read more

This is an awesome dog run. I foster animals and I'm always bring my dogs here to get exercise. I live a good 15 minutes drive away, but I live coming here because the run is always clean, friendly, and full of playful dogs to help get my dog's energy out. Rick who runs the park is always on top of any issues that arise. Everyone who comes here is polite and helps keep the turf clean. I highly recommend bringing your dog here for exercise! read more

This dog park is so nice. The people are friendly and attentive to their dogs and everyone keeps the place clean. The ground cover is cooler than concrete and it is surrounded by greenery that is very nicely kept by volunteers. There is a doggie drinking fountain. There are poop bags, a few kiddie pools and a hose. These things have been generously donated by local businesses and through community donations via a Gofundme page. There is lots of seating for humans too. It isn't very shady but there are enough trees and greenery around that unless it is a truly unbearably hot day it doesn't feel too bad. There is a SUDS group on FB that provides people with information about the park and other things that pet parents in the community would be interested in. read more
