This Super Walmart was a surprisingly great experience! From the moment I walked in, everything was incredibly well organized. The aisles were neat, clearly labeled, & fully stocked which made shopping feel effortless instead of overwhelming. There were actually many employees on the sales floor,cashiers, & deli workers which I'm not used to (like from other Walmarts)What truly made my visit stand out though was the cashier. She was extra nice, super chatty, & had me laughing the entire time I was checking out. It's rare to come across someone who genuinely enjoys interacting w/ customers & her positive energy completely lifted my mood. Great customer service plus a well kept store is a winning combo. Car Dept., took about 20 minutes before anyone showed up at the desk to help. Credit Card machine wasn't accepting my new card. Had to go to Customer Service which was a circus in its own! Very unhelpful and unprofessional! They were chatting and joking in a different language, I was ignored while trying to ask questions and got nowhere! One lady told me to sign up for a WalMart Card when I turned it down she rolled her eyes and said "yeah we can't help ya" and continued talking in a different language with her co workers. I was in this Wal-Mart location for no more than 15-20 minutes with my cousin, niece & sister & out of nowhere my cousin was approached by asset protection telling him that he had to leave & I'm pointed out also. We were asking why & they told us that "multiple customers" were complaining about our behavior & that they had us on camera. DOING WHAT EXACTLY? Nothing. We asked them to provide the customers to give us a positive ID they refused & we asked them exactly what conduct were we displaying that was disruptive to the customers, they refused to answer, they were being incredibly vague. To top it off, one of the asset protection members tells us that there was "15" of them complaining about us, & then went on to admit that he lied about the number. We complied & left but not without asking for names & the store number & corporate & they refused to give names & they gave us a bogus number. I found the corporate number & I filed a complaint but I'm never going back there ever again. Unbelievable. read more

I recently bought tires from Walmart.com and called to make an appointment for an installation at the West Haven location. I waited on hold for about 15 minutes just for the man to tell me I have to book the appointment online. However, online it's not possible to book the appointment without purchasing tires. I called the Milford location and the man who actually tried to help me ran into the same problem on their end of the system but at least he tried to help. I just find it very disappointing that there was zero customer service that came from this location. read more

I had an amazing visit with the auto center today. They did a great job with the tire install and helped me with some things that I had questions about. I have had a lot of problems with the Milford one and I stopped by West Haven a couple years ago and I had said next time I needed tires I would be going there, I kept my word. This Walmart is a last resort option. They have poor customer service, and food items tend to be expired already but are still on shelves. It seems they practice a discriminatory practice at the door checking receipts even after you have went through a register or properly scanned your items through self check out. As a person of color I've seen others get away with not being harassed. Ironically, I prefer the Milford or Wallingford Walmart; never deal with the treatment of aggressive and unwelcoming behavior. While you're watching and making others feel like customers who have gave your business much of your money, you are leaving a bad experience, and it's reflective on how certain demographics at the door while focusing on being discriminating, others are able to get away at your store. Practice fair and just practices if this is your protocol. To watch only yt or other poc that fit a narrative be able to get through without their items is dehumanizing. The upkeep of produce and low selection, meat aisle and dairy needs to be more sanitary/looked after to ensure quality as well. read more

The Walmart (associates) police at the door DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT ask white people for receipts. I have recorded videos of white people walking out and not being asked to show receipts. Black customers are watched thru the cameras and also by the associates at the check out , then on top of that we are asked to show a receipt at the door. I will NEVER SHOW A RECEIPT AGAIN, and you're not obligated to show one either so don't think you are. As long as you're not stealing you don't have to show a receipt , please do the research. Target is upscale they even offer nice bags and they are free and not flimsy, their associates are courteous and well mannered and helpful . Yes they may be more expensive but it's a total different vibe, you can tell the difference in the training and the appearance of both stores, shameful!!!!!! Walmart get your shit together!! Due to the impending snowstorm headed this way, the water was cleared out of there. But the bottled water selection was very scarce to begin with. They lumped all of the water in with the other beverages. They were completely out of gallons as well. The checkout situation was slow but organized. For some strange reason people enjoy loitering in the entryway/exit of this store. I'm not sure if they are waiting for other people to shop but it causes congestion. Management needs to address this loitering so that customers can get in and out. read more

This Walmart may not be the closest to my house, but I tend to pass by when coming back from work. There are certain merchandise that you can find elsewhere that's not available here. But that tends to apply whenever I compare different locations of the same store, applies to Target too. The thing I like about this location is the Volume of self checkout available... aka I don't have to wait and wait in line for a cashier to check out with. Actually, I believe the store only got just a few manual check out counters left. Nothing against the manual check out, per say, other than Load Onto the Belt, run it thru and then stack it back into the carts (even big items that barely fit on the belt). It's not that hard if I am talking a gallon of milk and a box of tissues, but putting cases of 48 waters bottles, not exactly fun (I am no WWF Bodybuilder). Here I just go, scan the boxed items right in the cart with the gun, the small items get scanned and dropped down into the cart, all with the Scan Gun that is available at each terminal. It's easier that picking them up and scan ... and given they charge for the bags, no reason to put it on the scale. Once I select my items in the store, I seldom have to wait (if at all) to check out and be on my merry way. Parking can be a challenge, but as I prefer to park away from the building itself, it's manageable. read more

You can read my review of the Super Walmart in New Haven where I wrote that this store is the anus of all Walmarts. Well, if New Haven's Walmart is the anus of all Walmarts, then the Walmart in West Haven is the feces in the anus of all Walmart stores. Not only is the store a dump and the quality of goods poor, the customer service is downright pathetic. I called the Walmart in West Haven to inquire whether they still carried a paint color I was trying to match (house paint for the exterior). After a long wait on hold, the customer service rep told me that I needed to come into the store to find out; she could not transfer me to the Paint Dept. Reluctantly, during this pandemic, I went to the West Haven Walmart and waited for 15 minutes at the paint counter. Finally, a Walmart employee named Sajit walked by. While he was polite and friendly, he didn't seem to understand my request to speak to someone who worked in the department. I asked for his Manager, and Sajit said his Manager would come. I waited another 10 minutes, no one came, so I went to the Customer Service counter on the exact opposite corner of the store, spoke to Sherri, who paged someone to help me "in Paint". I walked back to the paint area and waited another 10 minutes, but no one came. Another Walmart employee walked by and I asked "Can you find someone to help me?" She frowned, shook her head and walked on. She was initially so rude, that I caught up with her and told her that I was going to include her in my one-star review on Yelp and Google. Unfortunately, her name tag was flipped around so her name was not visible. I told her how rude she was. She actually became very nice and said "I told you I didn't work in this department." I said "No, you shook your head, didn't say a word, and walked away like you couldn't be bothered when I asked if you could help me. Good customer service would have been if you said 'I don't work in this department, but I can find someone, or I can call for someone to help you." She then really did try to find someone to help me. About 5 minutes later, Ana came over to help me but told me that the paint machine was down. Ana was polite but at that point I was angry that no one could have told me that from the beginning when I called. The idiot on the phone told me that I had to come to the store to get my question answered. So I came to the store for what? To waste an hour only to find out that the paint machine was down? I decided to not make a total loss of my trip 12 miles one-way, so I picked up some potato and chicken salad. When I got to the checkout line, I counted the line was 17 people deep. Very few people seemed to be practicing social distancing as the area was packed, so I decided to leave. I went to put back the potato and chicken salad and noticed that the plastic lining on the potato salad was pulled back. I pulled off the lid and found that someone had tampered with the potato salad. It looked like someone stuck their finger in it and scooped out some of it. This is not the first time I've found tampered products at this Walmart. I left without purchasing anything and I won't be back. By the way, I found another store with better paint products where they were able to match my paint color perfectly. For customer service that is spot on, and for quality products, go to Goody's Hardware in East Haven. Those guys know how to do it right. I should have gone there from the start - it's a short walk from my house. Walmart, you failed again. YOU and many of your staff should be on the unemployment line. read more

It's a rather mundane Walmart. Many of the customers would make good photographic subjects for peopleofwalmart.com. I end up stopping in about once a week because of convenience and inexpensive prices. For me, it's a decent spot to pick up toiletries, home goods, cleaning products, and miscellaneous grocery items like tea and cereal. The customer service at the registers is actually very good. The cashiers are surprisingly pleasant, friendly, and quick. The lines are long but the wait usually isn't. Once I had to wait a long time to do a return because they were having an issue with the customer ahead of me, but other than that, no service complaints to report. read more

I placed an order online for like 5 x 7 photos. I got the email that it was going to be ready yesterday. I got out my job and went straight to Walmart to go pick them up, it said anytime after 6 O'clock. I get there and I go straight to the back where the entertainment and gaming section is to ask for my photo. it was 9:50 when I got there. I was standing there while three of the employees was talking shit about a customer because he wanted to buy a phone. By the time they acknowledged I was standing there they told me I had to pick up my photos in the front. I walk over to the front and ask another employee where I was supposed to pick them up and they told me I was 2 minutes too late because it closed at 10. I was so aggravate. I came back the next day to pick them up in the front and they sent me back to the video game section to pick them up... seriously? so I could have got them yesterday either way, the two girls was so unprofessional. I went to This Walmart just for some headphones and I was treated horribly by the lightshinned black woman working in the electronics area. I arrived into the electrics area needing assistance. I patiently waited for about 10 minutes because I just figured they were busy. After the 10 minutes were up, the worker woman arrived, saw me waiting for assistance, passed by me, went behind the register Didn't acknowledge me at all and then proceeded to leave the register area I was patiently still awaiting assistance in. She took her time and reset the display computer and then walked away towards the back. I was ignored and felt like I was invisible (but I am sure she saw me because I am a 400 pound man). I went to the front of the store and found a manager to complain to, but she gave me the Manager Complaint Response right out of the handbook. This was Very Upsetting and I will not shop here again. I really try to convince myself not to go here at all but I end up here because it's the next closest thing ( can't wait until them open SR down the street). Every time you come to this store there is always new people... New cashiers, new employees on the floor and everyone seems to look like they are annoyed to be there. I have never ever ever been greeted by someone would smile and just be happy to have a JOB... So many people unemployed and the people at this Walmart are mad you shop there. So one they are annoyed about cashing you out and secondly they scan your things like you really want to stand in front of them and look at their annoyed faces for 5 hours. I walked in with some returns to a customer service line that was more than 15 people long. There was one unhappy person working behind the desk moving at the rate of a snail. The customer service manager watched from behind the desk as the line grew further and further all while sorting through carts of merchandise that had to be put back. I sat in line for 40 minutes. This Walmart, while it does stock a lot of items for purchase. Items ranging from gardening supplies to groceries, the quality of these items is not great. The prices are pretty inexpensive but it also depends on what you are buying. Some items like seasonal fruits may be on sale on occasion but the quality of these items is usually poor. Yet, for other items like greens or other vegetables, the items are pretty expensive again for low-quality produce. In terms of quickly grabbing something the store is good, I would not recommend grocery shopping here if you are trying to eat organic, non-GMO, minimally processed foods. The staff can be friendly and helpful, however there are other members of the team who are not helpful. Beware that there is a sort of racial/discriminatory profiling process/system on your way out here. There is a "receipts are checked" policy , however depending on your ethnicity/race, motherhood status, age you may or may not be asked to show your receipt and have the items in your cart reviewed. For some customers this is a very long process beyond a few, reasonable, seconds. This policy was pretty disturbing to me especially given that we live in the 21st century. So it did eventually force me to find other grocery/shopping places to go to that did not do this. I would not overall recommend this store, their policies seem to be arbitrary and the service is more or less sub-standard. The money you save shopping here is not worth going home with such low quality items. read more

I typically don't have an issue with the store. The auto staff are beyond helpful and great at what they do. The products I'm usually searching for in the whole store are almost always there. BUT I will say I don't take racism or assumptions lightly. While parked in the auto area I went shopping. I purchased what I needed through the do it yourself lane. I then proceeded to head back to my car. I looked at one associate (the old white dude who looks like he's had his run with heroine or crack-who knows) and saw him eyeing me down. I smiled at him and then next thing I know he says something in his walkie talkie (good boy ranger)). I immediately told the person I was shopping with that he think we stole something bc he did his walkie mess. When I get to the exit in the back I'm immediately asked to have my receipt looked at and my bag searched. NEVER have they had personnel look through bags at either entrance. The person I was with, in shock, said I called it. Ol boy felt cheap bc I stole nothing and the search proved that. If you wanna play like that then just get a security guard like the Hamden Walmart. So corny. That's why amazon is whoopin ass...online shopping here I come. read more
