This is the ONLY place I will shop for groceries. Why you ask? Well, because it is clean, the staff is helpful and friendly and I know where everything is! :) Big Y has become a local favorite grocery store for me and a place where I can come to pick up food fast when in a time crunch. I have gotten sushi from here on $5 sushi nights, ordered pizza and stuffed breads from them, gotten giant subs for football Sunday, and catered food for parties and events. The prices are fair and the produce is always fresh. I really like the service of the cashiers. Majority of them bag the groceries for you and place it in your cart! You don't get that type of service at the other places. Keep up the prestigious work Big Y! read more

Derby Big Y is convenient & parking is good. Fresh Fish cold case is a winner & they also fry fish for take out fish & chips. Service is good. Store seems a little crowded with products but that's a good thing I guess. Well lit & clean. One of the better grocery stores in Southern Connecticut. Derby store does not have gas pumps. You need to go to Milford for Big Y gas which is very reasonably priced. read more

Consistently 12 people standing in line at the deli for the 20 or so minutes that it took me to be served. Four people in the deli, only one person waiting on the customers. Insane. read more

Went to Big Y today to pick up a few items. about an hour later, I had bought way more than a few items. in particular, I had bought 12 Chobani Flip yougurts which are weirdly shaped so I decided to use a produce bag to contain them all so they wouldn't migrate all over the basket. I went to the checkout line and the cashier read me the riot act. You can't put those yogurts in a plastic produce bag! I said that I put them in a plastic baggie to prevent them from migrating all over the basket. She lashed out again at me, you can't do that. if you need a bag, come see us. ??????does that mean? How many yogurts do you have? I said 12. She then uses the portable bar reader and.clicks the bar code 12 times. The bag is sent down the conveyor belt and she tella her partner to open the bag and count the yogurts, all the while mumbling about the bagging of the yogurts. Her partner does and tells her 12. Why in hades does she ask me how many when they are going to count anyway? Couldn't she have just counted them and kept her big mouth shut? I'm a criminal, stealing a produce bag? I guess I could have put a string bean in the bag to make it legal. Call the police now! This cashier needs to be taught the rules of common sense and courtesy. You do not belittle any customer who is honesty buying items at your store. The cashier was tall, female and African American. read more

I had placed an order for the Thanksgiving pre-cooked dinner, consisting of an oven roasted turkey breast and several side dishes, at a cost of $99.99. I am handicapped and I thought this would be a great way to serve our holiday dinner. My husband picked up our order today, the day before Thanksgiving, and when he brought it home, I cannot express how disgusted and upset I was! The turkey breast was a vacuum-packed breast and looked nothing like it was advertised on the web site. I called Big Y and spoke with the store manager. I expressed to her how angry I was with the turkey breast, and all she could say was "I'm sorry you are unhappy"....... That's it!!!! Now I am left to figure out what to do; how on earth am I going to prepare this disgusting thing for my family!!! I feel as though our holiday dinner has been ruined!!! I went back on the store's website to show my husband the photo of what I had ordered. Of course, their ad was no longer there; the ad had been taken down. This store has falsely advertised the holiday dinner. I am so angry and I will never step foot into a Big Y supermarket again! read more

The produce "selection" is terrible & most of the time there is nothing to choose from. Two weeks ago the lettuce section was empty but there was a sign in the empty lettuce area saying to ask employee for lettuce. So I did that & waited about 4 minutes for the employee to come out from the back with something the store should not have been selling. It was about five wilted leaves of lettuce. I just walked away & went to another store for my greens. Employees are good there & I'd like to shop in store more often but don't anymore because of the poor produce. read more

I find the "online only" version of the weekly ad very cumbersome and, frankly, unacceptable. Not only does it make me write everything down on a separate sheet of paper (rather than circle and put notes on the circular); but WHO OH WHY when I select "show all", do I get to the bottom of the list and still have to pick "show more"?? I want to thank the awesome folks in the bakery at Big Y in Derby. I was in a pinch to get cupcakes and had a terrible experience at a bakery in Orange. The staff at Big Y were stellar and were able to make the cupcakes for my grandson's first birthday party and a small birthday present cake for him which was so adorable! Everything was fresh and perfect! I highly recommend Big Y's bakery for parties. It was delicious and a 1/3 of the price you would pay at any bakery. Job well done! read more
