What a great store to get produce. The prices are so much cheaper and the quality is very good. I bought a mango that was absolutely delicious . It was only $.49 compared to at least a dollar at other stores. The milk, eggs and other groceries are far cheaper. The one fault is they have a limited variety. I love the prices and the produce. I also like how Aldi brand items have no artificial dyes in them. The meat selection has really grown. I'm so happy about the lamb. But the some items are seasonal or limited. So there is always something new to find. read more

Located on the edge of New Haven is this store. It's pretty large inside and the aisles are accommodating. I absolutely hate food shopping and the aisles are too tight. Especially with our small son who is at that age where he will try to knock items off of the shelves if he is too close to them. The meat is reasonably priced (actually everything in the store is), but don't expect to find tons of name brands. There are some, but there are also sneaky deceivers. Such as, when looking at packaged sliced cheese, I could have sworn it was Sargento from the packaging, but a real closer look shows that it's an impostor. I got a great amount of groceries for the week for only $48. (I didn't buy a few things I needed at another store) Typically, I spend around $100 at Shoprite or $120 with Peapod. For those who aren't familiar with this type of store though, the carriages are locked up in an alley way on the left side of the store, you need to insert a quarter into the carriage to release the lock. (You get your quarter back when you return it) Also, you need to bring your own reusable shopping bags. (I think they have some plastic ones, but you'd have to purchase them. As you check out, your groceries are loaded into a shopping cart and after you pay, you can pull over to the counter to bag them yourself. A different sort of experience from your typical grocery store, but hey, I'll bag my own groceries if I can save a few bucks. read more

The review is almost more a frustration with the Aldi's business plan than JUST this store but maybe it is how this store runs itself has no logic as well. If you have an hour to blow & want to save a couple bucks then this Aldi's is the place to shop. The prices are great just like other Aldi's. Where I am from, Aldi's are not a big deal at all bc shopping is about conveniences & ability to shop through lanes manageable. Here is just the opposite. I do like the business model on the carts & bags but part of the dilemma is that it takes the customers too long to pack their stuff into the bags that it is too slow turnover at the cashier. I have gone into this Aldi's five times. Three of the times I got to the cashier line, 10 minutes later the same person who was checking out at time I got into line was still trying to pay. Those 3 times I went back & put my items back & left without purchasing a thing. If the Aldi's North American CEO went through his stores on a Sunday afternoon maybe he would understand that the business plan loses too many customers. The aisles are cramped, especially the frozen food aisle. They have a bunch of crap that makes it a one cart lane. So when one idiot doesn't realize there are people waiting for them then nobody moves. They have 5 cashiers but never more than 2 are open. I truly do not believe this store manager understands the business model for a supermarket. If you want to be in & out with less than a dozen items then shop somewhere else. I have a lot of patience but I am not going to stand in line for 30 minutes to buy 10 items. Open up a kiosk lane that is monitored for less than 12 items. You would be able to keep customers that aren't buying for a family. Aldi's business model alienates the young professionals without kids. I hate shopping at Wal-Mart so at least now the NE supermarkets will get my business even if it well cost me $15 more a month. It is the principal that matters: time is money. I'd rather spend a couple dollars a week more to be in & out of a market within 15min with less than a dozen items than being in a line for 30 minutes bc people are slow & inept. read more

Love Aldi. Hands down the best place to buy groceries in the area. Super clean store that was just renovated a few months ago. Fresh produce and great specialty items too (shout out to the jalapeno stuffed olives). Tons of random fun stuff too, like halloween dog costumes, household decorations and kitchen tools. Bring your own bag! But they also have bags they charge 10 cents for. It can get crowded but if you need to get out quickly just put everything in your reusable bag to navigate the aisles quickly. 2.5 stars. I had low expectations going in, having visited an Aldi once before over 10 years ago, but I was hoping to find some good Trader Joe's-esque deals to feed my family of 6. It's a fairly dumpy, dingy store, not exactly sparkling clean. I was shopping only for vegan/plant-based items and prepped by watching some vloggers with their vegan hauls. This location had some of the vegan line (lots of burgers, plus hot dogs and sausages) at a reasonable price... looked like Lightlife & Dr. Preagers knockoffs but I haven't tasted them yet. They had a few refrigerated coconut, almond, and soymilks, but not unsweetened soy and none shelf-stable. I didn't see a lot of my staple items-- tofu, frozen spinach, brown rice, whole wheat pasta. A lot of the veggies sitting out didn't look fresh, but I got good prices on potatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions. There were some bagged greens that looked decent, including a chopped kale. I didn't see stuff like flax or chia that other stores supposedly have. Decent variety of nuts but no raw cashews. The best deals for me were on the fresh fruit. Berries, peaches, plums, nectarines, cherries, mangoes, avocados, pineapples, whole watermelon, all at or better than the best sale prices I see at stop and shop. The mangoes were huge and .59. Apples were not priced better than the typical grocery but they're not in season, they did look good and had a quite a few organic and conventional varieties. I also picked up a bag of frozen fruit for smoothies, haven't compared the unit price yet, it was a tiny bag but only 2.19. Canned tomatoes were very cheap, including fire roasted. I also got refried beans, canned chipotles, whole wheat tortillas, and oats for good prices. I was very pleased to find quinoa at the cheapest I have ever seen it, at 3.69/lb. Overall it was not too bad. Definitely saved a bit of money... partially because there's just less to buy but also with the fruit savings. I spent $88 and a typical stop and shop visit would be $100-120 for me. read more

I've been shopping at this Aldi location for over 7 years. I shop around at several of the major local supermarkets, getting what's on sale here, what's on sale there. I've been doing this for years because it saves money, especially since all the grocery stores where I shop are in close proximity to each other. One thing I've noticed is that over the years, I've done more and more of my shopping at Aldi. I used to get my staples at Aldi: rice, beans, pasta, couscous, oats, potatoes, bananas...and I'd buy all the rest of my food at other supermarkets. These days, I buy almost everything at Aldi. This Aldi location has grown and improved over the years. I watched as their organic produce and other organic foods selection went from a rare one or two items to an entire organic produce section. What's been more impressive is the growth the entire company (not only this location) has taken in terms of vegan and plant-based foods. As far as I can tell, nearly every vegan "Aldi Finds" item has become a regular item. I rejoiced the one time I saw a box of Earth Grown vegan shredded cheese on the shelf. I bought two bags and never saw them again that summer. The same with their vegan meatballs. Then the next year, they were both back as regular items. Aldi's vegan food selection is growing rapidly, putting them way ahead of any other supermarket in the eastern United States of which I'm aware. Aldi has vegan meatballs, vegan shredded cheese, vegan cream cheese, vegan sour cream, vegan hotdogs, and about 7 or 8 different types of vegan veggie burgers...all as regular items. Aldi has also offered several types of non-dairy vegan ice cream as Aldi Finds items, they've offered vegan queso dip, vegan ravioli, vegan cake, realistic vegan burgers and more. Odds are that most or all of these products will be regular items within a year or two. Veganism is growing and will continue to grow. Aldi is way ahead of the game in offering their own line of vegan foods. I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next. I've crunched a lot of numbers over the years and I estimate that by buying most of my groceries at Aldi instead of the major local supermarkets, I probably save about 40% on my grocery bill. Additionally, I love their food and I don't at all feel that I'm sacrificing quality. If I want something specific from another supermarket, I'll buy it, but lately I've been finding that Aldi has almost everything I want. I love their business model, I love their food and their prices. No matter how long the lines are, I'm almost always in and out of there and through the line faster than any other supermarket. Went here years ago and the fruit and veggies were rotten. Decided to come back years later instead of going to the Wallingford location. Still the same. Some of the fruit was terrible, it was missing a lot of what the other location has, sour cream and raisin bread for example. read more

I really liked this store i did.. untill today November 18th 2019 one of your employees is extremely disrespectful as a parent im not going to take it... so i was shopping with my girlfriend and her sister today with my daughter and my daughter started to throw a tantrum cause she wanted something so as my girlfriend/the mom did she gave her what she wanted then were in line wating to be cashed out my daughter throws another tantrum cause she wanted the same apple sauce in the package.. so.i told my daughter no because she ate food already had snacks and had the apple sauce so i said no your not having that right now when we get home you can have it so the guy took it upon himself jumped up out of the register walk all the way where im at opened it and gave it to gher after hearing me say no shes had enough for the time being.. this was disrespectful and as a father i dont appreciate it... the guys has a job to do and had a longgggg line but decided to do this knowing i said no... its not his business to come and save the day im the parent and i said shes had enough no need for him to do that its disrespectful... just mind your business and continue getting your job done no need to be a parent to a child that isnt yours its weird and disrespectful.... read more

My fiance and I are from the west coast and we never heard of Aldi before. A friend recommended Aldi as the place to go for affordable and healthy grocery shopping. So we checked it out and are very happy to have found this place. The prices are lower than other grocery stores and the selection is good. Everything was easy to find. We noticed some items (ex. cookies and canned food) were imported from Germany and other parts of Europe. Apparently, Aldi is originally German owned and we also learned that it is now owned by Trader Joe's. Since we love Trader Joe's, making Aldi our new grocery shopping spot was a no-brainer. We go to Aldi all the time now. Here's a tip... always bring a quarter; to obtain a shopping cart, it requires a quarter ....but you get your quarter back after returning it. It's a very efficient and smart system that keeps the parking-lot clear from shopping carts... and helps to keep prices low. Important to know, this place does not accept credit cards. ALDI does have some good deals and cheap prices on some items, but my issue with ALDI has nothing to do with their products or business structure, but instead with their business operations. Any store where you can not contact them by telephone demonstrates poor, lazy, lack of customer service. I've never shopped at a store where there is no contact information to reach out to them. The shopping cart concept requiring money (I only it's only a quarter and you get it back) is ridiculous. I understand they don't want to have associates chase down carts outside... but again, they are focusing on themselves and not the customer. I rarely carry cash so that means odds are I don't always have available coins for a shopping cart, so if I don't have 25 cents for a shopping cart and need more than 3 items, then I guess I am skipping ALDI even if I was planning to shop there on a given day. Another issue I have is I always feel rushed at checkout. Now I do understand that this is an intended business strategy but it really defeats the purpose of trying to get customers in and out of the store and then only have 1 or 2 checkouts open. I've been to several different ALDI's and there are always a ton of people waiting to checkout and they have either 1 or 2 checkouts open, I think one time they had a 3rd checkout open for just a few minutes. I would not say the employees are necessarily rude, but they aren't friendly either. The ALDI associates are always wooden, robotic and lack a customer focused personality. I suppose this is how the company trains their associates, but again this is not welcoming and does not display a customer orientated environment. I only continue to shop at an ALDI store maybe only 1 or 2 times a month, but a constant reminder of the feedback I mention above makes me question why I continue to shop at any ALDI at all. They try too hard to be different from other stores but basically fall flat because being different and implementing odd workflows to their day to day business operations doesn't make them stand out in a positive way. read more
