Horrible online shopping experience. Bad quality.I will not come back again. We'd like to apologize for any problems you may have experienced with your recent online grocery order. We'll use this information to improve our service to you.

I was in Gerrard Square running some errands and thought I'd drop by the local Wal-Mart to get a pot. I have been at multiple Wal-Marts in my life, and I think this one was a bit mediocre. I couldn't figure out whether the issue was with the lighting, or the size of the ceiling, but somehow this locations feels extremely "squished". If I was to choose a Wal-Mart (assuming people even do that) I probably would go elsewhere, but at the end of the day the products sold are effectively all the same. As far as service is concerned, I interacted with one of the shop assistants since I had to process a return. She took some time to figure out what we were trying to do, but overall she provided good and friendly service.

AWFUL SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE (Not necessarily reflective of the staff at this PARTICULAR Walmart, but this was the best option I had) I picked up a fridge purchased online at the Penguin Warehouse Pick-up location at 629 Eastern Avenue, Toronto, ON. When I brought it home in my SUV and opened the box, I was shocked to find it very badly damaged. Imagine my shock given this was the first time I had ever purchased anything online from Walmart. In addition to being damaged, the online delivery timer was consistently incorrect and gave extremely misleading information (as late as the afternoon after I picked it up, hours after I already had the item in hand, it was still shown to be in-processing at some warehouse and not yet even READY for pick-up). A customer service representative from Walmart that I spoke to earlier that day informed me that the item was indeed NOT ready for pick-up, that they would be communicating with Penguin by email, and that the item would only be ready several days from then (while it was ALREADY sitting there waiting to be picked up). Sceptical, I called Penguin to verify and, lo and behold, they informed me that the item had been delivered DAYS prior and was waiting for me since the original delivery date of Saturday, August 1, in spite of what was posted online and told to me DIRECTLY by Walmart personnel. Now, not only had I been repeatedly misled by the Walmart staff, website, and online tracking services, but I was stuck with an unacceptably damaged item. Walmart SAID they would be dispatching Canada Post to pick up the damaged item, and I was told to send them an email confirming my contact & address details. FOR OVER A WEEK NOTHING HAPPENS - NO PICK-UP, NO CALLBACK, NOTHING! I called four times on the the 1-800 number they provided (1-800-328-0402), and after being on hold for a very very long time each time, I finally got through to a clerk. By this time, I was understandably frustrated. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was informed the only ones available were monolingual Quebecois located in Quebec, and that I would be REQUIRED to speak French if I were to get through to them. This is absolutely ludicrous, unacceptable, and borderline unconstitutional. Since when did Walmart become a french or anglo-exclusionary company? How is this at all legal? So far as I know, this it is not - you cannot force me to speak French to a supervisor when receiving service in Toronto (much the same that a Francophone cannot be denied service in French if requested, and be forced to speak English). I was told to send the initial email and that Walmart would respond within a "couple of days". They did not. I emailed again (after over a week), still nothing. After being told it would be picked up from my house, but never receiving a phone call or email or any kind of correspondence confirming or scheduling this, the damaged fridge was still sitting in my living room weeks after I was told it would be picked up. Doubting this would happen at all - I took matters into my own hands. Keep in mind, every correspondence of mine to Walmart was met with a boilerplate auto-response lie that they would respond "within 3-4 business days". Until THIS WEEK, they never responded back with either a phone-call or email. After jumping through all that rigamarole and BS, I had to go, by myself, lifting this fridge, and bringing it directly to Canada Post so that they could pack it up and send it back. To add insult to injury, Walmart not only ignored my communication with them, but despite acknowledging my claim and offering a refund, none was ever received. It took me contacting my credit card company to dispute the matter so that the charges associated with the fridge would be voided and a refund finally given to me. This was over TWO MONTHS after Walmart told me they would refund the charges, sending an email confirming this, but never doing so or communicating back at all. All this for a product that arrived in an unacceptably damaged condition. The only correspondence I ever got back from Walmart after August 13th, despite repeated attempts at contacting them for either clarification on the pick-up or refund, was THIS PAST WEEK on September 24th, when they acknowledged the complaint from my CREDIT CARD COMPANY (acknowledging NONE of their failures in communication or customer service as outlined above) Needless to say, I will not be shopping with Walmart, either in person or online, ever again. Buyers beware! (See photos below)

Walmart finally found a way to enter Toronto's east end, by taking over the anchor spot vacated by the defunct Canadian chain Zellers in Ghetto Square. (Oh may you be missed.) It's a basic small Walmart with a pharmacy, but no full grocery so don't expect any Superstoreness here. The aisles are generally messy and disorienting. I'm never a fan of the uniquely Walmart shopping experience anyhow. But a particular experience of their electronics department worth writing about was off-putting. All I wanted was a set of earphones and a pack of blank DVDs. Simple, yes? But the department had this policy, I was informed by the cashier, that they have to photocopy my receipt, so they have a copy. Like, really? This ridiculous process took five minutes, because they ran out of paper in the consumer-grade printer-copier like the kind you'd find in a home office they use under the counter for this purpose. Ugh. I never asked why. Why one of the world's largest companies is making this poor underpaid worker make a copy of a sales receipt is something I'm still wondering about. At least he wasn't a dick about it--he kept a friendly posture and also felt this extra step he is forced to make us all endure is stupid. Walmart is fine if all you want is to get some cheap essentials like soaps and underwear and then GTFO before the zombie hoards strike. But I wouldn't come here to buy a TV or video games, never mind more blank DVDs and cables, if this is how my and the employee's time is valued. Damn, I'd rather have a salesman attempt to sell me on extended warranty, than have five minutes wasted on photocopying a receipt, an archaic practice that today's point-of-sales technology have solved a long time ago. Get with the bloody program.

Well they certainly slapped this store together in a hurry. No doubt Walmart wanted to get this store up and running before Target opens their store at Shoppers World Danforth next Thursday. When I sopped in here last week there were still unpainted pillars showing hints of "Zellers red" and patches on the walls from the previously existing lighting that Zellers had on the walls. Stock seemed a little sparse in some areas. The store didn't really have a Walmart feel to it. It felt like a no-man's zone. Not Zellers anymore, but not quite a Walmart yet even if the signs on the outside say so. The store is quite a bit smaller than your average, non-Supercenter Walmart. I can see now why Target gave the location a pass. This is a very spartan store. There's a pharmacy, but that's about the only added service here.

Yup, wiper blades. That's what you go to Wally's for.

When you come in, it does give a slight attic smell, which I don't mind. They told me they usually restock on Thursdays and the other location by Sterling Road usually carries even more inventory. I purchased a shiatsu massager and back up Aukey earphones that were new in package from the Ex. However, the earphones didn't work. The great thing is they are one of the few or probably only liquidators that I know that allows for a 7 day return if there's an issue. Normally most discount liquidators I've been to, it's pretty much the final sale. I wasn't able to visit within 7 days, but did send them an email with the issue with the earphones so they extended the warranty for me to come in within the end of the month to get store credit or exchange, which I'm so grateful for. Apparently they sold hundreds of those earphones and only a few came back with issues. I was able to drop by yesterday after work and decided to exchange for another shiatsu massager for my in-laws. What I appreciate about this spot is that it's relatively organized in shelves with multiple copies of an item. There are bargain bins too for $5 if you really want to search for any deals and treasures. I much prefer than other liquidators where usually things are thrown in bins and you don't know exactly what it is until you open it. The staff there was also super patient and friendly. Definitely if you're in the area peek in and see if you score any deals. They will be moving back inventory from the Ex today and the pricing seems to be the same. Though they might offer tax off discounts with cash at the Ex but not at the store.

Was told by worker that they could give me almost unlimited quantity of toppings (primarily cheese) offered by them, for no extra charge. Pies are 16" with Plain/"Cheese" $9.99, "Veggie" & "Pepperoni" $10.99, and "Deluxe" for $11.99, and no extra charges beyond that for "double," "triple," or more in quantity of toppings. Tried the "Veggie" with slightly more than "quadruple" cheese and was generally underwhelmed. "Veggie" comes with red & green peppers, black olives, and mushrooms. Mine had no mushrooms due to unavailability. Price still was $10.99. The dough tasted bland and underdone. Not much air pockets. Sauce was watery and also dull. Cheese was great in quantity but not with any intricacies in flavors. The oven used is the tiniest conveyor belt oven we've witnessed (pictured, on table). This could be the source of a lackluster pie... Would recommend ordering with sparse toppings and possibly 2 turns through their conveyor belt oven. If compared to Costco pizza ($12.99 for "Pepperoni" and "Cheese" pizza with generous quantity of cheese and/or pepperoni), Costco was generally superior in all but price. The good thing about this Walmart/Ghost Kitchen pizza is the low price for "Veggie," and "Deluxe" pies, at 16" for $11.99 or less with practically unlimited topping quantities at no extra charge beyond base pizza price (something Costco doesnt offer). Slices are available ($2.99 each, $3.49 for "Deluxe.").
