It has changed quite a bit since I was an undergraduate student, but feels the same. Although shops have come and gone, the York University Bookstore remains a staple. It was unfortunately closed when I was there for CRAM learning sessions at night. I like that there is a decent Shoppers Drug Mart now. I often had to visit one off-campus to get munchies, cold medication, and frankly hang out because everything was closed after my night classes had ended. At 10:30 pm, Second Cup and a few eateries were still alive and kicking. After admiring all the York University-branded sweatshirts, t-shirts, water bottles, and more, I need to come back and get something. I don't have much gear as an alumna! There is a decent parking lot on Vanier Lane where you can park your car. It's $8 if you park after 6 pm on weeknights and is good until 6 am the following day. It's cheaper on weekend with flat rates. You pay at one of the most sophisticated parking machines I have ever used. It accepts coins, credit and debit cards, bank cards, and YU-Card if you are a student. Yes! I used my bank card and the transaction was seamless. There is a walkway between this parking lot and York Lanes. The parking lot ismonitored, which is positive and reassuring. I had no problems here, as I spent nearly four hours on campus. I will return to get my York U. gear. It felt the same being here, even with the change in stores and look. (123)

A few Saturdays ago, after dropping off a couple of items at the Markham Household Hazardous Waste Depot, I needed to get groceries. I did something different and sought out a grocery store that I had never visited. I settled for this Walmart in Richmond Hill. This Walmart is with a bunch of box stores. I used to frequent this area often years ago. I remember when this store used to be a Sam's Club. It was extremely busy in the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. I parked a fair distance away from the main entrance. Unlike my usual Walmart in Markham in the Boxgrove area that doesn't require any coin to unlock a shopping cart, this place requires a 25-cent deposit to unlock one. I had a quarter in my wallet and put it to good use. I will say that I like the produce section a lot. It's probably because it features Al Premium products. The celery that I got was healthy and in pristine condition. The avocados looked good. Prices were decent. The fruit section was excellent. I got strawberries and cherries. I also saw dragon fruit and lychee. What ruined my experience was Anusha, an associate. I was walking next to a long fridge. It had ended, so there was a slight gap between my cart, with me behind it, and the next fridge to my right. This woman wanted to pass me on the right side between my cart and the open fridge. Really? I'm technically pushing a cart on the right. How about pass on the left like a normal human being would have done?! Anusha was rude. She had to wait in front of the fridge, with my cart and me moving forward. Just a weird move on her part. I gave her a puzzled stare. I loved the Asian section. I got gyoza that were delicious when I heated them up at home. I got black garlic ramen that I love. This place has a ton of ramen varieties that it was almost overwhelming! A good supermarket with Asian products has to have Pei Pa Koa. This store had the large bottles. Whenever I have a sore throat that leads to a horrible cough, this product is the only one that works wonders for me. I loved seeing it here. I got snacks I grabbed a bottle of peanuts. I also got a couple of boxes of Dare cookies. There was a clearance section as I headed toward the checkout. It looked so chaotic, as if a huge fan was trying to blow all products on the display shelves and it succeeded. It was so messy that I didn't even bother looking at whatever discounts were there. Also unlike my regular Walmart in Markham, this one didn't have any humans at the checkout area to help customers cash out. Rather, the self-checkout kiosks were encouraged. I had no problem scanning my items. I then paid with a credit card. I bagged everything with my reusable bags and then headed to my car to load my purchases into it. I was parked next to the shopping cart return area. I got my quarter back. I then left. I love the products here. It sadly took a Walmart associate to ruin my experience. She needs to realize that she is representing Walmart and trying to play chicken with my cart isn't cutting it. I hope that other associates working at this store aren't like her. She dampened my shopping experience by being an impatient jerk. Should I return to this store, I hope that she's not there. (323)

The store carries a lot more inventory and I have more luck finding items when they are on sale at this location than at the other Walmart. It also has a huge grocery section: bakery, meat, fruits, veggies, seafood etc. I also like their self checkout though they always seemed to close half of it. Lots of parking space as the lot shares with other sotres. The lot is always half empty towards the back. The only thing I wish is that it would be close to me :)

The Great Value brand 907g bag is not even listed on their Walmart website so I suppose you have to pick it up in person to get this. Its organic too and seem to be similar product though I do notice the Costco one does have Halal certification if that matters to you. It's also listed as Product of Canada whereas I don't see that label at Costco. What a great buy! Now I know I don't need to reach Costco to get these staples. If you also deck out your smoothies, oatmeal, cereals, baked goods or yogurts with some hemp hearts for added protein, this is a great find. PSA: My friend recently got hacked on her Walmart account and someone made a bunch of grocery purchases for pick up in a different city. I highly recommend to not save your credit card info down at Walmart in case some hacker is able to access it. She was able to get her funds returned from her credit card company but be careful out there! Another friend got hacked from her loyalty points so lock up them loyalty cards if you're not redeeming too.

After recommending gel nail strips from Winners to the female staffer after she let me know that she loved my nails, it was a good idea to check out this Winners. This plaza is huge, so I drove over to this store. I parked steps away from the entrance and walked in. I had forgotten how huge this store was. I remember waiting for what felt like ages at the checkout when I last visited it. I was here on a Wednesday evening. It wasn't as crazy. I spent a lot of time looking at purses. There were many that I found interesting and cool. I found a Kipling crossbody in a cheerful cantaloupe colour. I already own this style in purple, so I didn't need another one. If I did, I would have bought it. Sure enough, I did not steer the woman at Penningtons wrong. I found a few gel nail strips that were waiting for her to snatch up. The shoe section is impressive. There were many pairs of footwear for my size 11 feet, from sandals, to sneakers. I saw men's shoe sizes go up to 14 at this store. It was impressive. The drinkware section is also decent. You can get tiki and pineapple mugs to conjure tropical vibes. I was thrilled to see a good selection of travel tumblers. The athleisure wear section was also cool. I liked the Adidas tops in cheerful colours, such as lime and pink. There were also lightweight track pants and shorts that looked stylish and comfy. This store has a small plushies section. I did see Hello Kitty and a couple of Squishmallows while I was there. It's a small, but mighty section. I was briefly waiting in the lineup before I approached a cheerful cashier. I had my TJX Style + cards scanned, followed by paying for my items with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked the woman and left. It was nice returning to this Winners.
