Every time I come here check out is super slow. I have time to update my FB status and rate them here on Yelp before two people out of 6 ahead of me get through the register. And they close registers while people are waiting. Where I come from WM opens more registers if there are 3 people in line, but not in DC. read more

Very disorganized store - flies around the frozen meats and no cleaners or sanitarial conditions neither at the entrance of the store nor at the aisles - many staff pretending doing cleaning for corona virus a non-necesary effort, due that increases the number of persons inside the store and frankly with a totally lack to understand why they are doing such cleaning- my assesment is that the management lack interest in the population they are serving. No social distance was observed and no one seems to care - Potential Danger for new cases of cobid-19 detected. Some aisles or station are with more than ten people obtaining groceries. A third world store with a rude staff compared with stores in Europe Lack of efficiency mostly at the cashiers stations - at times had make me waited for several minutes, becasue the casher is talking with a customer of they just simple like me to wait or to go away as the inner message from staff and some or few costumers seems to be "you do not belong to the group". The product is not bad- specially at the dally- however is a feeling of discouragement how staff is so rude to the verge of refusing to help me becasue of my European background or perhaps is just simple laziness when two staff are practically doing nothing and when they speak to me it seems I am the employee not the costumer - terrible attitude overall. I frankly will prefer to go to Safeway rather than venture one more time to buy at that store. My perception is that staff refuses to understand that the trends in population has change- because the way they treat people is totally out of Fashion. I and others can less about races as we just care for a good quality product and acceptable business and customers practices no idea why is the reason for such attitudes. read more

Illiterate clowns working in the delivery department, received the wrong grocery delivery order three times in THREE DAYS. The chat agent I'm speaking to on Walmart website is trying to call the store to fix this, but naturally they're also incapable of answering a phone even when it's Walmart calling Walmart. Also, the garage lighting is perfect if you're trying to be a crime victim... not even joking... only about 5 lumens of light in the whole entire garage. read more

Yelp says that I started this review 11 months ago. That must've been back when they first opened, because the draft I wrote gave them five stars. Something in my spirit told me that wasn't right. My draft mentioned fully stocked shelves and short lines. I believe the word "friendly" was thrown around a few times. Sigh. Those were simpler times...back before the ghettomic bomb went off and changed the store forever. I don't want to be overly negative, so I'll highlight some strengths: They have a Redbox. They have carts. They've got electricity. Sometimes both the down and up escalators that lead to the parking garage work. They have dozens of registers, so that if one of their three open registers breaks down, they can just move the cashier to a different one. All jokes aside, it's one of the better Walmarts that I've visited. If I were judging it only against other Walmarts then I'd give it four stars. read more

At 11:30pm, I stood in line patiently waiting for my turn to checkout, and out of nowhere this lady who was behind me was allowed to checkout her items before me and 10 other customers. The man who presented himself as the manager John, which I can't believe he's the manager for Walmart because he was extremely rude. He allowed this lady to checkout at self checkout, and I asked him, "Is self checkout open again."You wouldn't believe his response. He stated, "She's my friend so that's why I'm taking her, you will have to get back in line." I couldn't believe it. That is really not fair and unacceptable. Someone really needs to go and spot check his behavior. It is disgusting. read more

If standing in long lines and being treated like a felon are amongst your ideas of a pleasant shopping experience, this is the place for you. Before moving to DC, I lived in Oklahoma. There, Walmart dominated. I was a regular visitor and enjoyed their wide selection, low prices, and friendly service. The DC version pales in comparison. Lack of real estate limits their selection, the prices aren't much lower than their competitors, and the service is far from friendly... Was in here recently for a single item- a cheap bag of garden soil. After searching half the store, I found what I needed and went to check out. The "express" self-checkout required a ridiculous wait, so I chose the shortest line I could find- the one furthest from the exit. I waited patiently, paid for my item, took my receipt, and turned to leave. On my way to the exit, I noticed a trashcan. I casually tossed my receipt in the bin and continued toward the exit. BIG MISTAKE!!! As I attempted to leave, a security guard confronted me and asked to see my receipt. (Is this new? I don't remember having to deal with exit guards in OK.) I told him that I had tossed it in the trash. He said that I couldn't leave with the soil unless I produced a receipt. I invited him to fish it out of the garbage, as there was no way I'd be digging through trash. After going back and forth in the world's least exciting Mexican standoff, he instructed me to have the cashier who processed my purchase vouch for me. I walked all the way back to the cashier, who was furthest from the door. I explained my situation, and she waved the guard down. He then waved back, and I was told that by the cashier that I'd be allowed to leave. I understand that Wal-Mart carries big-ticket items and that reasonable loss prevention measures are necessary. If I had been pushing a flat screen in a shopping cart, I would have fully expected to be challenged. But to go through all of that for garden soil...never again. Presumptive criminality is not my idea of quality customer service. Sure, they're a little cheaper than other stores. But as with everything in life, you get what you pay for. I'll never pay for an experience like that again. Fortunately, between Amazon and my neighborhood Target, there's really no good reason to ever step inside their store again. read more

Horrible horrible horrible. I've been here twice and both experiences were bad. First thing, the store is typically a mess when I come in. Not upon entrance but, once you get near the activewear/clothing section. Each time that I've come here the beauty area is also in disorder. Second thing, the lines are always super long. Not sure if it's bc of short staff or what. Definitely needs improvement. Lastly, the staff are unpleasant and not friendly. You work in customer service...you're supposed to provide the customer with service not get an attitude when asked where a particular item is. read more

You may think the one star is because I am a person who doesn't like Walmart. Although they are not my favorite store that isn't the case. There is no such thing as a quick run in. And twice I have left items and just abandoned the cart. This place has no line control. I think it's a rule with upper Georgia avenue business that no matter how many people are in your store have only a few cash registers working. Today, I went to the Walmart on upper Georgia Avenue and got their early, 6ish or so in the AM. Again, no one greeting, saying good morning. Oh, back up, when entering the foyer from the garage parking toward the steps, I can hear a guy greeting people. I'm thinking, "is that a manager". anyway, guess it was a general store worker, but didn't greet me..Hmmm? Anyways. Checked out jeans and saw a tall black guy who had no name tag,light blue dress shirt and khakis, so I asked if he was the manager. He said yes. I asked where's the fitting rooms. At first he said right there.... then point. I'm like okay.. .I'm glade he pointed. He didn't seem too friendly, didn't say good morning. Oh well. I went to the two dressing rooms they have and they were locked. Saw the manager again and told him so. I stood there with him, him looking frustrated, looking around for a minute, I guess for any keys, not saying anything to me. That was awkward. He finally had to get on his back and slide under the fitting room door to reach up an push in the door handle lock to release door, all they while... saying" fu..ck, and mumbling. I told him I didn't mean for him to get on the floor. He said, it is what it is.. and this stuff shouldn't be here; talking about carts full of stuff. No cashiers, only self service, so lines were pretty full. One woman assistant was helping people. But she needs to learn how to multitask, since a station was open, but I, and I'm sure others, were thinking it wasn't working, since an older gentleman was ahead of me. He said something to me, then I said, Oh, it's it working... He then says frustratingly, go head man. Ha ha. Gota love DC. But the worker should have directed people better to any open stations. Not good Walmart.. not good at all. A white guy behind me was saying out loud to his group, this is why Walmart's stock has gone down 3%, or something to that matter, I guess because of poor service, etc. read more

PLEASANTLY surprised. I've avoided this place for fear of disorganization and frustration. However, I loved the place and it was easily one of the best shopping excursions I've had in DC in a while The parking- a breeze! It's easily accessible with a free garage in the back of the store with plenty of spaces. The store- Still feels like new. All the aisle were fully stocked and very organized. They even had the almond flour I was looking for an for about $4-5 bucks cheaper than anywhere else for Bob's Red Mill. The self service kiosks up front made for an easy exit. The staff---super friendly and very helpful. No rachetness that's usually normal at Walmart. I'll be back for those prices and the convience for sure. read more

Second trip to this Walmart that opened in DC just before Christmas with a lot of hoopla. My first trip was on the day of Grand Opening. Crowded, but not too hectic. If I were to complain, it would be about rude shoppers, not the security and staff, both of whom were friendly, helpful and quite informed on the layout of the store. (Was that a run-on sentence or what) My second trip, yesterday, found the store not nearly as crowded, thankfully. The greeters were exuberantly friendly. Clerks on the floor were friendly and helpful. And then I got in line to pay for purchases. Chose the cigarette line, as was intending to purchase some (snow on the way; want to be nestles comfortably in my home, wanting for nothing). Firstly, the check out clerk was not only chewing gum, mouth wide open, but popping it too! Aw heck to the no! Not acceptable. I was so offended, I deducted a star from what could/should have been a 5 star review. Secondly, cigarettes were entirely too expensive, at $8.70 per pack! Really?! The junk store down the street has them for $7.20. Walmart! Live up to your reputation of having great prices! Having said that, I'm glad you've opened in DC. read more

I went to Walmart for grocery shopping. For that section, I would give it three stars. The prices are very good on canned and packaged foods, but not so much on dairy, meat and produce since the quality of those brands is not comparable to Safeway or Giant. I was impressed that there were some healthful food options, with brands that you might find at Whole Foods. There's no place to sit down and take a break like at Target, which has McDonald's and Starbucks in-store. But Walmart probably doesn't want shoppers to loiter. The store is well-run with great service because it's overstaffed, but that's probably because they promised to offer 300 jobs upfront. I hope there won't be layoffs anytime too soon. read more

Worst Walmart I've ever been to. If I could give it a 0 rating I would. Customer service is the worst I've ever seen in my life, put me on hold several times when I called in before and transferred me to the wrong departments over 3 times. Then finally they tell me what I was looking for was in store. I come to the store and no one knows what I'm talking about and the store is in massive chaos. Such terrible customer service and they never seem to have items in stock. I have been sitting on hold for 13 minutes and when I was placed on hold the person who answered never even said hello. I have been looking for a particular item all over town, and Google Shopping said that this store had one in stock. Go during off hours - this is your key to success: stocked shelves, happy workers, shorter lines. They have tortillaland (cook at home corn and flour tortillas that are DIVINE) which I've only found at wally. Plus they have a great and helpful pharmacy. read more

I don't mind the idea of having Walmart in D.C the problem I have is the recruitment is very poor. From management down to the cashier are very rude, ghetto, unprofessional, no phone etiquette, and physical appearance very trashy. Upper Management seems to always go with the flow of business which sounds like whatever. The men who worked there act like they just got out of jail and always sexual harassing female customers. If I was the District Manager I would not tolerate this type of behavior. There are some good apples but a lot of rotten apples too!!!! This Walmart is disappointing, particularly the customer service. While the underground parking is a plus, this Walmart doesn't carry everything that is advertised on the website as "In-store only." When I went to go look for the items and couldn't find them, there were no employees to be found to assist me. The closest one I could find was in an another department. When I asked her for help, she told me to find someone else in that department. Prior to asking her for help, she was on her phone listening to her voicemails on speaker. She did find me another employee, but when I asked this employee for help to find the items I was looking for, her response was: "If you don't see it, we don't have it," and that was that. I went to the customer service desk to ask about rain check policies and ordering in-store. The customer service rep asked if I looked in the right place, because she said she saw the item earlier. I told her I didn't see it. Her only advice was that the items were probably out of stock and to come back when they were in stock (likely when the sale would be over). These people really don't go out of their way to help you; customer service is sorely lacking. read more

Think of another way to handle theft. I shouldn't have to wait around for nearly 30 minutes to find a staff member who can open the locked cabinet so I can get a lightbulb for my car. I asked three staff members and got nowhere. I went and found the manager and he was helpful, and even let me check out ahead of a long line. But still I probably won't be back. Walmart in DC. Well, never thought I'd go, but had to check it out. Avoid the produce at all costs. The prices are astronomical! It's WALMART, very unfortunate that the prices are so much higher than Safeway and Giant. C'mon Walmart, have a heart. What do they have that will draw me in and back? ClimateRight by Cuddl Duds Women's Stretch Fleece Warm Underwear Longsleeve Tops and Leggings. These are more like pj's/tights/lounge wear than underwear. And SO warm. Yup, will be going to get some for this winter. And, Playtex Gloves that fit snug and make great "no reason, just 'cause" gifts. Or stocking stuffer? What's close by? Georgia Avenue Thrift Store, a nice McDonalds, Post Office a couple bus stops north, or walking distance. read more

If you want help, find Deonte. He's the only one who assisted me even though I was standing in the "help" area. They never answer the damn phone. Ever. Don't even bother to waste your time. Underground parking is available but it's extremely dark however the major problem is THEY DONT ANSWER THE PHONE. This Walmart is anything but a "Supercenter." I've witnessed staff here berating a customer, simply for questioning why the customer service center staff didn't acknowledge people waiting in line and didn't alert them to the fact that customer service hours had ended hours earlier and that they'd have to come back the next morning. Apparently, customer service here ends hours earlier than the store itself does, but there is no signage alerting anyone to that, and there are actually staff members in the customer service area, but they don't serve customers for regular customer service (it wasn't clear what they do do, maybe in-store pickup orders?), and they don't say anything to people who stand and wait, not even that the customer service area is now closed. Customers were treated like dirt, right in front on my eyes. I couldn't believe it. I've been in this store probably 10 or 20 times since it opened and never found it pleasant to shop here, but now I don't want to set foot in it ever again. A much better experience can be had down the road at Target in Columbia Heights. Cleaner, nicer, friendlier, better organized, all around better to shop at Target. read more

My wife and I went to this Walmart to return the Mainstays Floor Lamp today. The lamp has a flaw on the flimsy base and cannot stand up itself. The staff refused for our return request because we threw the original box away. So we purchased an exactly same new lamp and give the box for returning the old one. But they still refused to return it, plus, the staffs were laughing at us rudely. When we leave the store, a staff run towards us and asked to check the receipt for the new lamp. I showed him the receipt and told him that I ALREADY PAID FOR IT!!! We will avoid this Walmart. read more

Three because its convenient. The store is trash .people constantly steal from here which leaves us paying customers with nothing to purchase. This store is horrible, I was there today and the pickup area is nasty, the story it self is horrible, they allow people with dogs ( and the person was not blind) they allowed this person to walk all and through out the store with the dog and shop like this is the normal, I went into the pick up area to get my items and once I realized everything was not in my bag, I called the store back 4 - 5 times just for someone to pick up the phone and hang it up, the customer service for this location is very unprofessional and each and every associate need to take a customer service course on how to treat people. read more

Ordered a product on the website to have delivered to this store location NEXT DAY and available around 5PM. Website never updated to inform me that the product was ready so I called in to check. Associate checked on the order and stated that the product was at the store and that I could come to pick it up. After arriving the pick up department stated that my order was still processing and went to check on the product, couldn't find it and told me that someone else must have purchased the product. I was told to cancel my order and no type of apology or compensation was even suggested. read more

Well, you can typically get what you need. Half of the staff I run into are helpful and the other half need to be retrained. They clearly are phoning it in and could care less about being there let alone helping you. The prices are good and the selection is good enough to keep going. It would just be nice not to have deal with some disgruntled employees bad attitude either every time or almost every time I go. read more

This is the best choice of the two DC locations. The store is huge. The guards are friendly, but you have to have guards. Keep an eye on your purse while shopping. The food choices are varied. I didn't find much of a variety in the clothes or decorations. The electronics area was lacking. Trying to find help on the floor is usually a problem. read more

This store has HORRIBLE customer service. I placed an online order for pick-up on May 27th and the store has yet to email me regarding pick-up. Wow. How wonderful is it to have a Walmart in your backyard. The location is perfect along with garage parking. There were many people here from the Brightwood community out to support the grand opening of the store. The store is not as big as the super Walmart's but it is still pretty spacious for a location on Georgia Ave. Welcome to the community Walmart!!! On the downside I know this will have a impact on smaller businesses in the community so I'm screaming to everyone to still support your neighborhood businesses. read more
