I had questions because it was my first time getting actual food there and most of the people at the register seemed irritated and upset about me inquiring. But something was different when I went in the other day because all that completely changed. Thanks to Chi Chi and Rell (there was also another guy there with glasses whose name I didn't get)! But they were the BEST! The best customer service I've had there since I started going. First off as soon as I walked in Chi Chi greeted me with the biggest smile and positive welcomed energy! I was shocked because no one EVER speaks when I go in, so that was really refreshing! She's was so nice and sweet and patient with me and all the other guest! I placed my order and Rell took care of it. I usually have a few modifications with my sandwich and for most of the other employees that seems to be a problem or bring extreme frustration. Rell didn't have a problem at all! Usually it's a lot of eye rolling and deep breaths, and it'll be over something small like asking for sub roll instead of regular bread. So it was nice to order my food and not get attitude from staff for how I want to eat my food. I feel like as long as Rell and Chi Chi are there the vibes are going to VIBE!! The food was moving out quick. The place felt and looked clean. They had no problem answering the questions I had about the shop and what they sold. Shout out to them forreal because I was prepared to leave a not so pleasant review about my experience but I'm glad they changed that because I'll definitely be back more often than not! Thanks Chi Chi and Rell, not only providing great customer service but just for being a vibe!

If you've been sleeping on this grocery store or you haven't visited in a minute go check it out!…read moreThey renovated a few months ago and they did a fantastic job at both making the store more easier to navigate and updating/expanding their selection. You can find everything from Michele's granola, mung beans, 3 crabs fish sauce, oat milk, Korean melon ice cream bars, and latin groceries. They've done a good job at diversifying their products to meet the needs to the yuppy-fied neighborhood and long-time residents. This is where I go for some Asian ingredients (in addition to Hana market) that can't be easily found in DC. In addition to what I mentioned above, they have plenty including dried mushrooms, msg, gojuchang paste, dried pho noodles, Kewpie mayo, and more! You can also find some good deals on produce here. Their green beans are usually really fresh and crunchy. They also carry bean sprouts and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. They used to carry Thai basil here and there, but I haven't seen it in a while. Their cilantro prices are usually also really reasonable; it was 2 bunches for $1 today! Now what makes this really special is their butcher counter (service during daytime hours, but if you call in advance, they may be able to accommodate up until 6/6:30 potentially) will actually work with you to get you what you need and it won't cost an arm and a leg. I go here to buy pork ribs bc they'll cut them lengthwise for me to cut into riblets for Vietnamese sườn kho or soup and I also order sliced meat here when I have bbqs (typically sliced pork shoulder for Vietnamese grilled pork, but they've sliced up entire pork chop hunks to my specification as well with a few days notice). There's no extra cost for butcher service either! I no longer live near this market, but I still try and go once a month bc I can't get most of this unless I go to the burbs, which is much further lol Highly recommend this local market.

Might be biased on the 4 stars here because it is my local bodega that I frequent most. . …read more frequently but it is truly a pleasant experience whenever I come to purchase my groceries (beer). The place is truly cramped but that's alright because there aren't usually more than a couple people buying their groceries (beer) here either. The typical non perishables are all marked up and some of them are even Giant's own generic but it is too much a convenience fee to mind. What makes this place gold is twofold. The first is the lone proprietor, Mr. Yu. Mr. Yu is possibly the hardest working man I have ever met INCLUDING my own father. This guy works every day Monday through Sunday and he is in there to open the place up at 8:00 am and closing it down at 9:00 pm (although I have seen a younger man with similar features that has manned the counter during the day occasionally). When I wanted some groceries (beer) on Christmas day was I worried that he wouldn't be there? No way. I asked him why it is that he can afford to spend all of his time and holidays working and he explained that he had a falling out with his family in 1984 and hadn't spoken to them since. Did I mention he lets me come in and make change for the laundromat? The second is the cheap wine. While a pack of lightbulbs might cost you $4, I have purchased the cheapest magnum bottle of wine I have ever had in my life at Sonya's for about $7. Not the most flavorful but it certainly does the trick ;) If you are concerned about not being able to take the quickest route to the beer fridge because someone is checking out and filling the space between the end cap and the counter then this place might not be for you but if you want convenience and pleasant from someone who has been serving the community for 20+ years, Sonya's is your joint.

But not Mega Mart. It's even more packed on a Saturday afternoon. And Saturday afternoon is the time I prefer to go. "What?" you say, "but you just said you try to avoid crowds." I do try to avoid crowds, but I like this crowd. It's fun. There are a lot of pretty Latinas and a lot of cute kids. The fruits and vegetables area is much larger than most grocery stores. In addition to regular food that Americans like they have tropical pleasures like mangos and baby bananas and more varieties of peppers than one could ever imagine. They have a lot of fresh fish from live tilapia swimming in tanks to red snapper, live crabs, a half dozen varieties of shrimp and more, all fresh. They have a little restaurant to the left of the fish place. They have things like fried chicken or roasted chicken. It's a small place with a small eating area. They have a tortilla bar. Some ladies are back there making tortillas by hand. They also bake a lot of cakes back in there. They have a half dozen workers making cakes. You can order a cake to your specifications if you want or you can take one off the shelf. They also bake bread and corn chips fresh. Another place is a meat and cheese counter where you can get fresh meats and various cheeses. The rest of the place is similar to other large supermarkets. They have a lot of workers for customer service. They always have somebody there bagging at each open cash register. All in all I give it a thumbs up. This review would not be complete without mentioning the Atol de Elote. I was in Honduras a few years ago when we stopped at a roadside business. Precious and her sister got a couple of styrofoam cups with a warm liquid. It smelled pretty good. When we got home, their dad wanted some, but they refused to give him any. He was mad. What was in there? Gold? Yes, Gold, Jerry. Gold! It was "Atol de Elote". Elote means corn and atol means mixture or something like that. Atol de Elote is a beverage served hot. It's like a cross between a corn milk shake and corn pudding. It might not sound like the best drink ever, but Dios Mio it is delicious. And they serve this right in the front next to the door.
