I have a love hate relationship with Walmart, in general. Specifically with the Knox Ave location, I hate that most of the registers are self checkout and I don't get an employee discount. More than half of the registers are self checkout and only like 2 "manned" registers. On occasion, I grab the one thing I need and exit. That's when the self checkout comes in handy. There is something to be said for living near the river. You get the best of both worlds (in my opinion) by living near downtown and having the convenience of North Augusta stores. One such place is Wal-Mart. Now a Wal-Mart is a Wal-Mart is a Wal-Mart. I get it. But here's what I favor about this one (besides proximity to home). This location is seldom busy. Also, they stay stocked. Whether there is a correlation between those two I don't know, but at least I benefit from it. They have what every Supercenter location has and guess what, a friendly team of people. And of course you know when it comes to price, this is the winner every time. *Insider's Tip -They weren't on the forefront of this trend, but now they do have order pick up. Why do people work in these stores when they do not care about their jobs? Who hires people in who are going to be a liability as far as their behavior and everything they say? Personally never had an issue with this walmart until today, employee names Nikki who was in the back of the store helping me and my boyfriend with electronics was standing there for at least 10 minutes talking to people before she would help us unlock the container and they weren't just costumers. Worst customer service ever. I drove 15 miles to buy lawn furniture and when I got to the garden center the doors were locked these were the doors leaving the store going into the locked cage. I found an associate her name was Julie she was very nice she agreed that those doors were not supposed to be locked it was to early. She said she would get the key to open them. She wasn't able to find the keys but she found Hunter the stores team lead who was able to open them but he refused to come to the garden center to do so. I was attempting to purchase 4 Michelin Tires for my car and attempted to call the auto area to ask if they would do a 4 wheel alignment when I purchased the tires and have them installed at the store. It's a Walmart, the down side is that they have 50 lanes open for self checkout. I am against this practice because it cost an American a job. It's bad enough that most store items come from any place other than America, I'm not going to support the lost jobs as well. 10/08/19....UPDATE...UGH once again we sucked it up and went into Walmart to get some chocolate mousse because it is so good. Needed tomatoes also, which were beyond belief, see photos. That's a big problem, unbelievable they even had them for purchase. YUK!!! Also bought some things that required ID check. SO the associate working (if ya wanna call it that) self checkout STILL had to call a manager over to do an override. WTHeck?!?! Of course they both walked back to our "register" as slow as freakin dirt (you know the phrase... dirt doesn't really move). They acted like we had nowhere else to be, nor did they. Absolutely absurd!! Yeah yeah, I keep telling myself to quit going in there but dang it, since they closed the Fred's, it's one of the only convenient places when needing to get food/household stuff at the same place. Very disappointing, SMH all day long! Ok, I just left the local Walmart. Whoever's brilliant idea to make most of the lines self check out needs to be fired. It was absolutely ridiculous with only two regular registers open and lines backed up like no other... To top it off, someone had three buggies packed full of groceries paying with an EBT card, must be nice, which held up the one line almost the entire time I waited. I stood in the other line for 25 minutes. One person at the self check out is all I saw, when buying alcohol, that is just as bad to get somebody to check your ID. There were many angry customers, including elderly people. I called the store four times while standing in line to which they only picked up once. If I'm going to bag my own groceries I will go to Lidl or Aldi, the prices are much better and the people are way more friendly, well, for the most part. I would not recommend unless you absolutely need to!!!! SMH all I frequent this Walmart often because it is so close but today I could not get home fast enough to yelp about it. Treacherous would be the word and that is being generous. Does Walmart not realize there are people stocking up regarding the hurricane (even saw and spoke to two folks from NBC News doing the sane!) and there is no school on the other side of the river so of course it's going to be busy. And once again they had three registers open at best and they were all backed up to the clothing section. The people working the registers move like turtles, they are there just to get a paycheck it seems and don't really care about the customers. Although I will say a gentleman in the produce section was extremely helpful and was more than willing to check a price for me and another lady did ask if I needed help looking for something in the container section, shocked the hell out of me because that never happens! Very very rare to get decent customer service at this location let alone someone going above and beyond. Also, I cannot agree with Aaron on the pricing, Lidl and Aldi are definitely less expensive, especially on meat, but don't always have everything you need. I would love to say I am never going to visit this Walmart again because I know that is not the case, and that is not by choice but it does beat having to go across the river and put your money on the Georgia side. In reference to their Auto Service Department, if you need a good set of regular tires then you are in look. They stock most brands and if you need a minor repair, tire change or tire fix then you will not be waiting long. Avoid the traffic and drive straight to the back. Just a cautionary note, you can enter the main store through the auto department, but the door is magnetically locked so you can only enter, not exit(unless buzzed through). I only share this because I not only ran into the door once, but twice before I realized this concept. read more

My adult daughter and I went in the above Wal Mart in North Augusta, SC on Knox Ave. around 10:20 p.m. to buy toys for my grandsons Christmas. The cart I got when I came in had a bad wheel that vibrated worse the faster you walked and was quite annoying. I saw an employee in an aisle with three carts around her, one of which had only a broken up cardboard box in it so I swapped carts and put the box in the one I had started out with. Instantly an employee; and young woman, black asked what I was doing and when I said I had just swapped a bad buggy out for a better one she got instant attitude and asked me "why you give me the one that won't roll?". She fully expected the CUSTOMER to walk half way across the store and get another one so she could continue to load trash in her better one. Of course it started to escalated but I didn't come in to get in an argument with a hostile employee with about a ton of sheer gall. We walked several rows over and I could still hear her mouthing off so I went back and asked if she would rather say all that to my face. And naturally her fellow black employees rode in to gang up on me, none of whom had been anywhere near when she was insulting and picking a fight with a CUSTOMER over a damn shopping cart! I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars in this store and the other before they built the Knox Ave. one and moved and I will NEVER NEVER EVER cross the threshold of that place again. The employees, black and white, are so much nicer. And don't throw racist at me please. My family and I only grocery shop in North Augusta due to no food tax and its cheaper priced than any other Walmart, usually at this Walmart or the Kroger across the street. Can't wait until Lidl opens! Anyways, every time we go to this Walmart, the shelves are almost always empty, and most of the items are thrown on the shelves in the wrong spots just to eliminate stock in the stockroom. They're also bad about pulling the floats and caged carts out during peak business hours and blocking the aisles, then the stocker just looks at the customers like they're dumb for coming down that aisle. Another downfall is the fact that there is never enough employees working. I have called up there numerous times asking for specific departments, the phone is transferred 3 times and will get answered finally then they hang up. I called the other day to ask if a TV was in stock and the guy in electronics picked up, I could hear him talking to another customer (I assume) and then he either muted the phone or put it on hold and never came back to the line. I called back, the same thing was done. I tried to call today to ask if they ever received anymore of the TVs I was looking for and they didn't answer at all. The lady at customer service actually took the time to help me and told me that they were out but could not tell me when they would get more in because supposedly it depends on the truck. There are never more than 2 or 3 regular cash registers open so unless you want to stand in line behind grandma buying her 30 cats some canned food in individual cans or wait on a cashier that is obviously waiting on hell to freeze over or is being so nosey as to what you are buying that she can't go any faster than a snail crossing the street, you are forced to go to self checkout, which 9 times out of 10 is card only, so if you are paying cash you are screwed and have no choice. Which, by the way, is illegal..google it, it is illegal for ANY store/business to accept cash only or card only. They can not tell you that they are only accepting one payment method unless their machine is down, like really broken. Anyways, I have had to call the MOD and corporate several times because there were employees just walking around up front by the cash registers, lines are all the way to the back of the store through the apparel section and all, and no one is attempting to jump on registers to help. There is money in 75% of the registers in the store and everyone is trained to work the register at Walmart. I have asked. So, we use self checkout almost every time we go to this store. I have better stuff to do than stand in line for 45 minutes because the employees are too sorry to do their job. I have walked the store several times looking for employees, any employee, to help me in a department, only to find everyone is hiding out. I have stood in the aquatics/pet section for 30 minutes waiting on some freaking fish that I really didn't need but I wanted, only to end up bagging my own fish - which I enjoyed by the way. I would see employees walking out of the break room, the stock room, the bathroom area by the photo lab, they are on their cell phone not paying any mind to someone needing help. It's like they see you, but they dodge you so they can avoid helping you. That is fine, but just keep in mind, I will help myself and get what I want with or without your help. I can bag fish, I can go in the stockroom and get my own merchandise that y'all are too lazy to stock on the shelves - OH! speaking of which, they never have purina dog chow stocked on the shelf. We almost always have to ask for it and if I have a good employee, they bring some out of the stockroom for me. But most times I get, no we don't have any. This dog food is the #1 seller at Walmart so why in the hell would you not have it in stock at all times?! if you are running out faster than you can stock it, shouldn't you order more?? I understand that Walmart stock is ordered randomly through corporate, the store manager and department managers have no say in what's ordered, but maybe they should. Corporate offices do not know what each store sells each week or each day since they get trucks multiple times a week. There are department managers for a reason, give them something to do other than dodge customers all day. Make them do daily or weekly inventory and then report to corporate the stock that they need, make note of the stock that sells fastest so they can double the order, etc. There is no reason there should be any empty shelves in the #1 retailer in the U.S. There is also an issue with rude employees at this location. Especially one tall, scrawny black guy working in the electronics department, he has a major attitude problem. The little short older white guy with the bald spot on top of his head is also pretty rude - I have confronted him several times because of his attitude problem and things he says out loud that he should not be saying. It's a nice store with nice employees. The store management is, unfortunately, too cheap to have an adequate number of cashiers to properly handle the customer load during busy times. Unless you come at a slow time of week, or at early / late hours, the wait can be unbearable as the self serve lines ensure that everyone waiting in the checkout lines has a well filled cart. It's unusual for there to be more than 5 or 6 checkouts open at a time. The self checkout is not set up to handle more than a few items at a time. Bagging areas are so small and simply moving a bag after filling it will cause an error that requires an employee reset. There being only one employee can cause problems when multiple customers have problems, and especially when the employee is needed to manually check out someone buying alcohol. When an irritated customer leaves without completing their purchase, the loss in profit from just one large order should make it wise to bring in more cashiers. Once you include having to pay someone to put the left behind order away and the cost of the refrigerated/frozen food which must be disposed of, it makes even more sense to have more cashiers taking customer's money. the photo department of the North Augusta, SC has really messed up. my wife submitted a picture of our daughter that my sister took to be put on a canvas. she received 2 emails saying the canvas was ready to be picked up. i go on my lunch break to pick up the canvas only to find out they will not release it to me because of a watermark my sister puts on her pictures. now my sister does not have a portrait studio, she just takes pride in her work( who could blame someone for that). the 2 people working back in the photo department( who acted like they had only been on planet earth for a few hours), kept saying they needed a release form from the company to be able to give it to me. so i kept asking where do i find this form to get filled out and they kept giving me vague answers about this form. it wasn't until the manager came out and told me the company that took the pictures would have to type a letter of release. i again tried to get them to understand that this is not a photography company. so it will be a few more days before i can get this canvas which means a trip out of my way to be able to get it. it caused me to be late back to work and by the way. the biggest problem to this is, in neither of the emails my wife received did it say anything about a release form being needed, nor did we receive any phone call on the matter. i think the communication factor needs to improved upon drastically, because everybody's time is important and had we known this before i went i could have had everything needed to pick up the canvas of my own child. read more
