During the current time of COVID-19, I did find this store a bit more spacious, a bit more clean, and a bit more organized than what I'm used to seeing at the other stores. At the 'scan-it-yourself' check-out point, you're to wait behind 'the guideline' for an associate to direct you to a clean and sanitized terminal...unlike the other stores. The only thing that needs improvement was the dairy/egg/milk area. I avoided it and only let the wife grab what we needed from that section, because there was a bit of over-crowding and no social-distancing involved. That got me concerned and it was only mid-morning at the time. Perhaps, either they widen that space somehow - or just have an associate or two limit the amount of foot traffic during peak times in that area, like how they do at the entrance.

Disclaimer: This review focuses on a visit centred on the MAC counter in their cosmetics…read moredepartment. My sister and I got together at Yorkdale Mall to have lunch and celebrate my birthday. We thought it would be fun to get a makeover. I like MAC in particular, but their independent store is usually busy, and they no longer list any sort of complimentary service on their website offerings. Turned out that we were having lunch right across The Bay in The Cheesecake Factory, so I thought we could see what their MAC had to offer. Turns out that they do some complimentary makeup services if you ask for a particular element, e.g., cat eye makeup for, foundation application, etc. The staff had to wait until her coworker was back from break so that other customers could be covered, so she took my number and my sister and I wandered off till she contacted me. We were away some time, but it turned out I simply didn't hear my phone ring the 2 times she tried to call as it's pretty noisy throughout the mall. I saw she had tried, and when we headed back, she was good to go. She asked what aspect I'd like to focus on, and I went with skin applications. She explained why she chose what products and colours she went with, but still asked about blush colour in particular. She asked what I normally do and use. She made sure to clean her tools and provide sanitary samples of everything I tried. She did not rush, and asked how satisfied I was periodically as she progressed. I was very happy with the results. I asked about the skin serum in particular. She advised that it was something around $80 a bottle, but that she had one or so last holiday packages for $73 that had it included with cleanser and moisturizer, so I opted to get that. She also added a free, small pot of the foundation she had used, with the name written on the bottom so I'd know what to select if I wanted to get more later. I usually would prefer to go to an actual MAC store, but this experience at The Bay was better than what MAC had to offer. Would definitely go back, especially if the same staff was there.

I actually stopped in to see if they had any leftover Christmas stuff or fun party supplies for New Year's but didn't have many holiday goods and they skipped over the latter. Sometimes they're on a roll and have good products, loll you into safety and you let your guard down and then bam, spoiled food starts again. And now, the last couple of weeks, dairy is also spoiled. I noticed that they took all dairy out from the fridges one time, next time they put them back. But they were all spoiled. So it looks like the fridges malfunctioned, but they're still selling the spoiled food. I wonder who makes these dangerous decisions? This store is in a plaza where you need to pay attention to drivers who don't check their blindspots. I pulled into this parking lot at around 6 pm. I had to honk at a car that felt like backing out without checking a thing. When I left, a similar situation happened with another car. I already felt that this wouldn't be a store that I'd frequent often if I am fearing for my life trying to find a parking spot. Anyway, I backed into a spot across from the main entrance. I walked in. It does feel like the IGA that I used to frequent. It simply has Dollarama merchandise. There was lots of Easter merchandise. From chocolate Easter bunnies, to baskets for your treats, you can find everything here. One of the few items that you can get for $1 are one-litre bottles of Pepsi. There were many when I was there. If you are looking for mason jars, this store has cases of them. The catch is that they aren't wide-mouth jars. Rather, they have bottlenecks. If you're looking for the former, you're out of luck. I liked the colourful planters at this store. You can do some cool gardening and save some money by getting your supplies at this store. You can get seeds and soil. Done! This store does not have any self-checkout kiosks. I lined up at the checkout area that moved fairly well. There was one person doing everything. He was pleasant. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I grabbed my items, wished him a great evening, and left. It's a decent store. Poor drivers backing out of parking spots that scare me. (134)
