So, for instance, if you take a drug that requires physician approval for each refill and the due date is on a Saturday, you have to wait until Monday to submit the refill. Then, depending on how busy your doctor's office is, the scrip might not get refilled until Tuesday. So, if it's a drug you need to take every day and only have enough to get from one refill date to the next, you have to go for several days without the medication. How stupid. So, I went back to Walgreens (I only switched to CVS because our Walgreens in Old Lyme closed), even though the one in Essex is farther away. Friendly staff and I can order in advance using their website or app.

Visited this pharmacy on August 8th, and was informed for the first time that the prescription expired 30 days after my doctor sent it in, and that I would now need my doctor to submit a new prescription. When I asked if the medication was now available, the pharmacist looked into it and indicated that it was not until further notice. She also disclaimed any responsibility for past actions of the pharmacy since she had not been there. So in the end, I waited three months as directed by this place twice to learn: 1. My prescription was no longer valid, 2. My doctor needs to submit a new prescription, and 3. Even if I followed this new information, the pharmacy still could not obtain the medicine I need. I know that modern life is complex, but I draw the line at farcical, inconsiderate and incompetent.

The morale at this location has clearly deteriorated. I have been to many pharmacies throughout my adult life, including several CVS's in Florida and others in CT. It appears that some people in this location have allowed their dissatisfaction with their employer to affect their customer service. They could very well also be affecting the morale of their fellow employees. They do not return phone calls, are abrupt more often than not, and seem to lack the insight, at least some compassion that their customers are most oftentimes visiting the pharmacy for reasons they would rather not... that is, because they are ill and require assistance. I understand being understaffed. In fact, that is the reason I wrote my review last year. Rudeness and treating people as if you are bothering them or putting them out of their way when you are there to provide a service is not acceptable. I worked my entire career being understaffed and overworked. Had I treated a customer or client that way I would have been removed from my position. It's not unusual. I treated people rudely I would have been removed from my position. And that works both ways. No customer should be rude and subject an employee to take any form of abuse. I know there are plenty of people out there who feel entitled to do that. I do wish the staff the best in having to work under such circumstances, but after today's experience I will be filling my scripts at another location and hope for the better service and experience I have had at other CVS's.

Those who run this pharmacy, however, seem to have rediscovered that you can gain customers simply by doing your job, doing it well, and treating the customer with courtesy and compassion! When you call this pharmacy, the phone is promptly answered by a human being. You don't have to sit though tons of advertisements / being put on hold for a long time. The staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. Most importantly, though, they operate well when filling a prescription. With my previous pharmacy I'd worry whenever a refill was coming up, since there would almost always be some kind of a problem that the staff would do the minimum of work to solve. When you called the pharmacy, after a long wait, you'd be responded to by someone who seemed to find your call a nuisance (Not every person in the pharmacy was like this, but it was common). I only wish I'd known how great Nutmeg Pharmacy is earlier, since it saves me so much hassle and stress. Half the time when you call them to fill a prescription, they've already done it!
