If I could give this pharmacy zero stars, I would. The store customer service is decent, but the pharmacy customer service is awful. In addition to that, the CVS app won't let you order a prescription in advance, to be filled the day it is due. So, for instance, if you take a drug that requires physician approval for each refill and the due date is on a Saturday, you have to wait until Monday to submit the refill. Then, depending on how busy your doctor's office is, the scrip might not get refilled until Tuesday. So, if it's a drug you need to take every day and only have enough to get from one refill date to the next, you have to go for several days without the medication. How stupid. So, I went back to Walgreens (I only switched to CVS because our Walgreens in Old Lyme closed), even though the one in Essex is farther away. Friendly staff and I can order in advance using their website or app. read more

With the volume this CVS does I have been reluctant to share my negative experiences but no longer - this store needs help and it's employees need a reminder that the people coming there wish they didnt have to, wish they were not picking up medication for health issues. This review is also provided for the pharmacist who asked for SPECIFICS when i decided to complain in-person today Saturday May 18, 2024. Overall SPECIFICS: I have stood in the long lines with other "regulars" most of whom are older, and have visable health issues; many with little to no technology skills, who rely on the person behind the counter. I have listened and watched pharmacy staff treat people as if they are doing them some kind of favor, many are already annoyed before a person even speaks; staff has been short, immediately dismissive, looking to prove someone wrong; lastly both through observations and personal experiences, staff here are not helpful unless pushed to be. For myself I do everything i can beforehand so I can just go in, pick up, and leave. That is untill I decided two days in a row to use the drive through where Jason resides - condescending, short, annoyed, unhelpful - which is why I decided to come in to talk with the head pharmacist, and her annoyed reaction told me all I needed to know... For my "SPECIFICS" i will use two VERY BUSY CVS's where I am not a regular - Anaheim CA and Georgetwon DC to explain the difference from Old Saybrook. Both of these CVS's staff worked with me to get my needed medications even though it was sent to the wrong CVS; they worked to ensure I had enough meds for trip even factoring in potential travel delays; they also went to bat for me to get meds paid through my insurance - In CA and DC I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS - THEY JUST DID IT. Specifically my "HOME" CVS in Old Saybrook only wanted to prove my doctor sent the prescription to the wrong place and sent me away; my "HOME" CVS in Old Saybrook didnt even blink to help but instead had me pay $45 instead of $5 For years I have given this CVS a pass because it is overwhelmed but not anymore read more

I'd give you zero stars but that's not an option unfortunately. Kudos to you your reputation proceeds you. Now I know why my child pediatrician advises against filling prescriptions at the OLD Saybrook CVS. I stood in line for 10 minutes only to get to get to the counter to have the associate not be able to find my child's prescription. She sent me to another counter to look into the prescription, but the other woman couldn't find her prescription either. It took her several attempts to locate it at which point I had already called the doctor's office and it was called in at 5:37 it was 5:50 pm. I was told it would take 10 to 15 minutes to fill my child's prescription. At 6:25 my nine-year-old old's prescription still wasn't filled. I stood back in line to see what the problem was. I was told by the woman at the counter, that " the prescription was in production". She scribbles my daughter's name in a piece of paper. 6:45pm my child's name was called. The pharmacist said " amoxicillin was out of stock". I asked "why did it take so long for me to be told that the prescription was out of stock" ? She said that " I have 2000 prescriptions ahead of her & l'm doing the best I can". I said, " don't children's prescriptions and the elderly get preference? She said "it's a first come first serve basis". To that I say there wasn't 2000 people waiting in the CVS. WTF are you kidding me! Thank goodness that the doctor's office could call in the prescription for my child to another pharmacy before they closed without a minute to spare! Never will I ever step foot in that CVS again. Hard to believe how bad these folks are. Went to pick up a prescription for Paxlovid, the standard treatment for COVID. It's common knowledge that it's available for free to seniors on Medicare. The worst pharmacy on the shoreline. They claim they never receive your prescriptions and magically when you complain the script happens to appear. The pharmacists on site isn't here to help but rather to argue. She seems so frustrated to be working here and would rather focus on transactional items as opposed to actually helping people. Worst pharmacy and staff ever! Two years ago I had to move one of my sons scripts because they never kept it in stock. Now three weeks in a row they have drive thru closed due to staffing issues but there have been 4 people working. After receiving a text and app showing my prescription was ready I wait in line 40 minutes to be told they do t have it. And then told to get I. The other line for them to figure out why. When I said I'm not moving the person opened another register and ignored me. I'm done they have lost all my family's business. Woman in front of me was there last weekend waited 45 minutes in line and when it was lunch time they all walked away and left the people who had been in line over 45 minutes. Just walked away! I have never come to fill medication at this pharmacy and not had an issue. To make it worse, the pharmacy staff has no concept of customer service and make it seem as if the issues are the customer's fault. They have created delays in filling medications for my children (more than once!) due to information they had wrong on their end. They have also sent me to outside locations, having me travel a distance to where my medication was supposed to be ready, only to hear from that CVS that the Saybrook location didn't follow any policy and the other location had no information about the script I was told was ready for me. I transferred my prescriptions to the Clinton location some time ago and the service and competency is exponentially better than in Old Saybrook. It's worth driving a little farther. Yesterday, I took a chance and asked our pediatrician to send a script to Saybrook, figuring I hadn't been there in some time and was in the area. Sure enough, CVS Saybrook messed it up again! PSA: Avoid CVS Old Saybrook for all prescription medications. Our son needed pain medication after an ENT surgery. We were told his scrip needed more time and to come back in 20 mins then told it was on back order and out of stock. After panicking and calling around to other pharmacies we were able to locate the medication. After calling the on call doctor and getting the script transferred to a sister store. The sister CVS store called and told us that the Old Saybrook store had filled the scrip. When picking up they said they had been short staffed. WTF..... 3x is the charm for this gal, I am done. Pharmacy is terribly understaffed, which just makes for the worst service ever. Long waits in the drive thru, in store, and when calling for pharmacist. Today two cars in front of me bailed on the drive through, so it only took 45 min instead of an hour. With the cost of medication one would think CVS could afford to adequately staff their pharmacy. This pharmacy accepts online appointments for vaccines (Flu, etc.) and doesn't have the vaccines on hand! What is the point of making an appointment and driving there to only be told these don't have them! When I inquired why that was, I was told "we don't have any visibility to appointments that are made online". WHAT??!! Then DON'T ACCEPT ONLINE APPOINTMENTS AT YOUR FACILITY!! The "store" part of this CVS is fine. Well stocked. Helpful staff. Clean. Terrific ! The pharmacy is an utter disaster. I have NEVER gotten a prescription filled without a hassle (and I have CVS prescription insurance). I had to return four times to get a simple prescription filled. And guess what-- they said they didn't have time to process it when I went back for a FIFTH visit. "I don't know, this is the first time I see this," is what the woman said. Come back in 20 minutes. The staff is rude and uncaring. Customer service? No such thing. If it was possible to give NO STARS I would. I have never bothered to write a review of any business before but this place really should either be taken-over by a new owner or closed. They are a menace to public health. First, let me qualify this review. The CVS stores in Westerly RI, both of them, are run by the most caring and friendly people. Last year I also rented a place in Old Saybrook for my job. THIS CVS, excepting the people who work at the front on the store, is absolutely by far the worst CVS, or pharmacy for that matter, around. I say this because, although I fill over $2,000 a month worth of prescriptions, the pharmacy staff are the rudest people on the planet. I don't base this review on a single instance, but rather over the last year dealing with them. If you have an issue with one of the prescriptions, they don't even bother to call you. Case in point, the last three prescriptions I filled all had to have a prior authorization. Eight days after it was sent in, I call and they say it isn't approved. I asked them to check it again and if not I would just pay cash for the RX, which ironically up until this month was less than a dollar difference if I paid cash. The thing is these people cop an attitude with you as if they are doing you a favor by doing their job. When they tried it again, after asking them to do so one more time, it magically was approved for $5.00. What a surprise. The thing that I find most annoying is the staff takes it upon themselves to decide that if insurance won't approve it, that they won't fill the prescription, which I depend upon. Without even calling you. Last time I paid out of pocket because of their incompetence and dilatory b.s. I almost had to take out a second mortgage to afford the extra $1.12. Now, without being snide, what happened to good old fashion service? I am not a difficult person in the least, but I review places how I see them, mostly all great. However, if a place deserves a bad review, I contact the management PRIOR to see if the issue could be resolved without resort to posting a negative review. The thing is, here, the management had a larger attitude than the staff. Nothing like being told off by some punk rocker wearing earrings that look like they came from Africa and you could stick your head through them. I was actually surprised. Not wanting to make a commotion, I called the corporate office. I did get a call back from an empathetic individual who identified himself as the Regional Manager and assured me that this situation would be addressed not only with the "manager" (somehow I really doubt the veracity of Sid Vicious's assertion that he was the "manager" in any event) and the staff. My only complaint was that if it was even addressed, nothing happened. One can discern a great deal about a company by their corporate culture. While other CVS locations are great, this particular location doesn't adhere to the culture of putting the customer first by trying to serve that customer nor by observing basic societal norms such as being polite, courteous and downright friendly. My most humble advice is, unless you relish being treated like a disposable piece of rubbage, go somewhere else, anywhere else, but the pharmacy at CVS in Old Saybrook. Once again, if I was reviewing the non-pharmacy staff this review would be a five star. And if I was reviewing CVS in Westerly, Rhode Island it also would be a five star. Front of the store employees are great, especially the 2 distinguished looking gentlemen with the whitish hair ;) but most of the pharmacy personnel that deal directly with the customers are horrible and need training in customer service. They are consistently rude and seem annoyed. They are constantly saying they are busy and short handed. That's unfortunate and I feel bad for them but that's not the customers' problem time and again. The inside lines are long, the drive thru lines are long and 9 times out of 10 there is a problem with my order or getting my refill. I've even been shorted pills more than once. When you have to call them you're on hold for quite awhile and when they finally pick up they are again rude and sound annoyed and rushed. The front end of this CVS is fine. The major problem is their pharmacy. I have yet to pick up a prescription without an issue. They tend not to fill your prescription until you arrive to pick it up. It even states on my app that is was filled days earlier, but they said that is usually different from the info they have. Usually it seems it requires two trip to pick up a prescription. The staff at the registers tend to be very rude. The young man who helped me today gave me the feeling I was totally putting him out by purchasing my prescription. I have seen the pharmacist drop a pill on the floor will filling a prescription and leave it on floor. It was still there later in day (when I had to come back a second time). CVS Old Saybrook, has the WORST customer service!There is one good pharmacist, in the bunch-Laura. She is polite, often busy, but helpful. A newer pharmacist, is just terrible! I've spoken to her on the phone several times. Each time, she doesn't listen & talks over me. She is never able to help me, with any concerns or questions. Today I was prompted to write this review because I tried calling to refill a script. I was on hold for 29 min, 14 sec. At about midpoint, on hold, I had to run out. Since I was passing by cvs, figured I'd go in. I stood in line-while on hold & WATCHED the pharmacist disconnect my call without answering! WTH??? When it was my turn, I told the grungy, impolite young man, that I had just been hung up on, after being on hold for so long. I said, "that's really poor customer service". He stared thru me & asked if I had something to pick up. (????) Sure. I told him to scan my cvs code, on my app. He didn't want to. Wanted my name. Why do I have the app, if you don't even utilize it? I think customer service, continues to go downhill here. It's very disappointing. i thought the cvs in boulder colorado was bad... has them beat. called six times in hopes it wasn't the telephone teller and just something on my half. "Press one for all calls about prescriptions" pressed one... repeated same message to me. told them i wanted to speak to a representative, brought me to the damn covid questions line. I don't have a car right now, and i'm trying to pick up wisdom tooth medication and don't want to WALK all the way there to be told nothings ready (pretty classic CVS move i have learned) and this was just the last thing i needed. Adopt the same service middletown has or maybe when people press one or very audibly speak what they need including numbers, it should transfer them to the right line. the fact i am living here this summer and have to go to this pharmacy the entire time makes me want to bang my head against a wall read more

The pharmacy technician was unable to decipher my prescription. Instead of asking the pharmacist for assistance, she told me my card was expired and my prescription cannot be filled. After calling my insurance company I was told that there is nothing wrong with my card, and the technician should have consulted the pharmacist, or called my physician. She was totally in adequate to for fill my prescription needs. I called my prescription directly to Caremark, and got you complete prescription for free. Was told it would be a 45 minute wait, then told it would be another 45 minutes! Slow to fill..fast on blaming it on everyone else including the customer who has no control over the prescription process. Pretty poor service. Went to pick up prescription and before paying asked whether they applied AAA prescription drug benefit to the cost of the prescription. Was told "no", to which I then asked "because they don't participate in AAA's prescription drug program or because it didn't apply to this drug?" The pharmacy assistant said "we don't participate." I pressed and then the pharmacist indicated that they do participate in AAA Rx. After researching this online through AAA prescription links, I discovered In this instance could have paid substantially less for my subscription at a different local pharmacy. Folks should be aware that 1) AAA does offer prescription drug discounts, 2) CVS does participate (thru Caremark) and 3) the cost of the drugs vary, potentially significantly, among the pharmacy chains EVEN WITHIN THE AAA RX PROGRAM. I have been a longtime user of this pharmacy. That ended today. Completely unimpressed by the service I experienced and very grateful that my tenacity revealed valuable information that will make a difference to our family. Hope it helps others. read more

One year ago I moved my prescriptions from CVS in Waterford to the CVS in Oldsaybrook and what A mistake that was. The monthly experience is just awful,I have two insurance carriers and have been very specific about which doctor and prescriptions are to be billed to each specific insurances. Each and every month that I have gone there has been some sort of mistake with whom they bill or they only give me half of the prescription and when I point this out they make me wait in line while it is rectified ,how humiliating!! The pharmacist told me that they would put A note on my account and this would not happen again, this is the seventh time! I had my doctor call in A prescription 12 days ago and I have received the text alerts saying that it is waiting insurance approval so today I called the insurance company and they said that it was never submitted. I called the store and they insist that they had submitted it and they did ten minutes before I called them and I explained my situation again and they quickly apologized however they offered no solution to these ongoing problems.I reached out to my insurance carrier and received permission to finally switch pharmacies.So after 15 years as A loyal CVS customer I say goodbye and hope that there is A manager somewhere reading this and finally makes the changes necessary to make this store what it should be read more

On one occasion a wrong pill was included in my bottle of meds. It could have been dangerous had I taken it. On another occasion just b/c the tech couldn't read the doctor's prescription writing, they did nothing with it and I ran out of meds. On a third and fourth occasion they neglected to update my prescriptions (higher dosages) so I got the wrong amount dispensed. When I ran out of the med and went in for a refill they told me they couldn't refill it yet (insurance). So they got the updated scripts from my doc but didn't enter it into their computer system. The pharmacist told me that I have to let them know a new script has been sent in! These issues are unacceptable for a pharmacy of this stature. read more
