This has to be the absolute Walmart in Rhode Island. Maria at the customer service desk was the rudest person ever. We tried get a return on a service plan on a TV and she said she didn't know if she could do it, then she started getting rude and nasty. W e asked for a manager and then she refused to help us, she needs to be fired. Normand the manager, was great, he smile and removed the amount with no problems or attitude. Normand deserves a huge raise. You don't do a customer service job if you can't deal with people. Don't complain to people that you've been working since 6 am. We all work hard bitch, deal with it. Absolutely horrible drive up/curbside pick up service. I went there twice yesterday to pick up for Uber Eats and ended up cancelling the trips because I was not going to wait a half hour for them to bring the order out to me. They should allow delivery platform drivers to come in store for pick up. I refuse to take deliveries out of there now despite how well they pay because the customer will blame me for the delay, not the service at Walmart. Horrible horrible horrible! Every time I go into this store there's an issue. Today I waited and was looking for someone for 15 minutes to get a dog fla and tick collar couldn't find anyone. I called the store they paged someone 20 minutes later no one came to open the case at this point 35 minutes gone by still no one. Then someone comes by with keys and the keys aren't opening the case. Funny how the same collars for cats aren't locked up. Honestly, this store is like walking into a dumpster fire. Nobody knows what they are doing, it's never clean, ordering online is as risky as eating sushi at a gas station. They try to force you to self-checkout because it takes way longer to wait in line for them to do it. There seems to always be police presence, but not in a good way. read more

I hate this Walmart. It's close to me and yet I basically refuse to shop here because of a number of reasons; poor management, a lot of things are out of stock, the produce is gross! I only go here if I need to grab a few things and that's it. I much prefer to shop at the Walmart in Whitinsville. The people that work there are much more friendly and helpful and for the most part, I feel safe and comfortable shopping there. It's a shame Eddie Dowling's Walmart sucks the way that it does. I've been to a fair amount of walmarts in a fair amount of City's and towns. Down the eastern seaboard, below the Bible Belt and into the Deep South. I've seen decent ones and I've seen horror shows. This one is decent. Friendly helpful staff that don't look like refugees from the isle of dr. Moreau. Shelves are clean, neat, orderly and properly stocked. Decent selection. The grocery area does not look like Texas chainsaw massacre. It looks like ppl do their jobs here with pride. And I respect that. The pharmacy was very helpful and I great appreciate how they went above and beyond to help find my script. But when it comes down to it... It's Walmart. I want to shop local. But ... Sometimes it's a necessary evil for me. And if u don't believe me about the "bad" walmarts... Go to the providence one. Bring Kevlar. read more

This Walmart is always clean and orderly. The staff isn't entirely overly helpful but they get the job done. Their linen section is much larger since moving from Woonsocket. I even prefer the produce compared to local super markets. I don't suggest coming here if you're in a rush during the first week of the month. Since I moved from the Woonie Bin and back to Providence, I haven't shopped here much. When I'm occasionally in the Lincoln area for various things we usually make a stop here for misc items. Specifically fabric. Not much may have changed since 2012 but ever since I began sewing I'm always on the lookout for fabulous deals and this Walmart is definitely at the top of my list. There are several aisles stocked with all sorts of wonderful fabrics including a random assortment of feline related patterns perfect for the crazy cat lady in your life. Unlike the other Walmarts I've been to that still have a fabric section, they have an awesome clearance/sales bin. Looking for totally irrelevant Hello Kitty cotton material for $2 a yard? Look no further! They also have a wide selection of other craft materials such as felt, yarn, embroidery threads and so forth including an abundance of storage bins specifically for sewing essentials. Service is what you'd expect and spotty at best. On several occasions I had to flag down a random employee from another department who clumsily attempted to cut my fabric. But with prices as low as $2.97 a yard for Waverley, it's all good. read more

This is by far the worst Walmart next to the Quincy, MA location. The self checkout lines are incredibly long waits. I had the biggest issue at the return desk! Diane the manager was NOT even helpful! Her first statement was that I could not return the item as opposed to her trying to help me return the item. In addition to that she took forever to come to help. And even furthermore, she was eating a chicken tender when she walked up also while she was speaking to me about the return!!! After going back-and-forth with the lady about how to do the return as if I work there myself, I was finally able to return the items. read more

This location is god awful for groceries anyways, shelves are a complete mess with product just literally thrown everywhere, frozen selection is a joke, produce is horrid. I honestly never had an issue here it's always very well maintained and organized. I also had to go to the electronics section looking for a phone case and the man who asked if I needed help was very kind and tried to help me as best as he could. ( they didn't have the cases for my type of phone) I went to the walmart in providence and the man at the electronics department was just as kind and helpful as well, calling other stores to see which had the cases for my phones. Unforunately, walmart has everything you could ever need, and we are on a fairly strict budget when it comes to food/household items, so we usually go to walmart. BUT, their produce department is legit JUNK. Their stuff is old, rotted, just not prime. Its edible, but go walk through stop and stop and there is a clear difference in quality. I agree with others that their produce is 3rd rate and this has to be the poorest run store in their system. I bought some of their cryovaced/sealed fresh "Icelantic" Cod 2 days ago. Package says "never frozen" First of all this was caught and frozen at sea, but not before soaked with 15% water and preservatives. I have caught fresh Cod and pan fried in the past, it was firm and Heavenly! The Walmart "fresh" cod disintegrated and fell about when pan frying...into one inch chunks! I have never seen anything so lame as this Cod. Don't believe anything Walmart claims as its all BS! read more

I like Walmart. They're cheap. I think this place gets robbed pretty often, since they always check your receipt if you have unbaged items. I just always have my receipt out when I leave just in case they ask. Plenty of self checkout registers (I think 12 total). This Walmart is the biggest we have in Rhode Island. I come here because I can grab a coffee, (Dunkin' Donuts inside) grocery shop, and get house supplies all in one location. This place also opens later then most stores ( 11pm -12pm depending on day). The only downfall is employees are not always the nicest and sometime you see the sketchiest people there at night. read more

As far as Walmart goes, this place is as good as it gets. It seems to be kind of a well kept secret, as in not everyone knows it's here. There was originally a Walmart on Diamond Hill Road in Woonsocket but it closed down for whatever reason (wish they'd tell VZ navigator that, but that's a whole different story). Since then, this one sprang up twice the size 10 minutes away and the place is empty pretty much every time I drop in. This is a good thing! The shelves are always stocked, no gaping holes in the displays (cough cough, Branch Ave). I've never had to wait long in line, and the associates are friendly. This is the only Walmart I've seen in quite awhile with a sewing/fabric section (albeit small). Gotta love the dollar-a-yard bin! The garden section is sparse, but it's only March. They have stiff competition however as Lowes and HD both have extensive garden departments. I think the reason this place doesn't get alot of traffic is because it's the first store in what seems to be a development suited for many large stores. The Walmart sign itself is practically dwarfed by the bulldozers, steel frames, and other signs of development. **Funny story, OR not so funny: The other day a brawl broke out in the parking lot of this Walmart. I wasn't there but it was on the news. Some dude thought another dude was checking out his girlfriend so a fight ensued. These dudes break out crowbars and go at it and during the melee someones crowbar went flying and hit an innocent child bystander in the face!! The kid was maybe 6 years old and had to be taken to the hospital. The father of the kid who got hit pulled a golf club out of his trunk and went after the guys with the crowbars. Do not go here!! Online order pickup. Waited 45 min and order was still not brought out. I left. Came back. Order brought out in about 10 min. Items substituted when initially they were said to be in stock - had they actually gave me my order on my first attempt. No problem. BUT then they tell me I was charged and I'd have to call an 800 number to try to get refunded if I didn't want them. I explained how frustrated I was given that I waisted 45min earlier. The female employee said "oh some people waited 3 hours." How does that make things better? Then when I told them I wasn't paying for the items I didn't want the same employee said to her coworker, in front of me "she is being ignorant just not listening and calling the number." As far as Walmarts go, this one is not bad. It's about 10x nicer and cleaner with a more civilized demographic than the Walmart in North Providence off of Branch Ave. We travel by moped to this Smithfield Walmart to stock up on our weekly groceries and especially the Chobani, $1 each, and no questions asked. This is a fact: you will save on groceries if you shop here rather than the local Stop & Shop or Whole Foods. As far as service, it's a Walmart, so don't come in expecting first class service. I placed an online order. The order was delayed by 2 days. My partner was the one picking up the one item that I had ordered which was in stock. He found it on the shelf and brought it to customer service to see if he could just get it at that time and mark it picked up. Since he would not be in town for week after today. The lady at customer service was extremely rude. She told him that our only options were to either wait until our order was finally done or to do a complete cancellation. Her reason for why it was taking so long was that it must not have been in stock the past few days. Which is false since I placed the order when it was in stock. read more

My favorite place to shop because they have just about EVERYTHING I need. I do my regular grocery shopping there. Everything is top quality (especially their produce. I have NO idea what the other reviewers are talking about). I've bought everything from clothing to cosmetics to toiletries to hardware and so much more. Yes, they tend to have long checkout lines (because they are a busy store) but PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. My husband gets all of his prescriptions filled there and never has a problem. read more

This new super Walmart recently opened in Dowling Village. It is well lit and nice on the inside. They have a full grocery section plus normal department store selections. The biggest issue, I have with this place is every time I go the shelves are always empty and out of alot of items. I never see people replenishing stock either. I like the price and the selection but am disappointed with how often they are out of things. read more

Just got back from my recent horrible visit to Walmart. I usually get my prescriptions there and just use the drive thru. Unfortunately today I needed a few items so I had to go in. Shelves almost completely out of vitamins. I had to get a different brand. They only had the small bags of cat treats my cats like. Then the line. I had 7 items & went to the 20 items or less line. Only to have a rude "classy lady" behind me complain I had the whole store in my cart. Really...I've never been so annoyed. Needless to say I'll only be using the prescription drive thru from now on & buying my essentials elsewhere. On the plus side I had a very pleasant cashier for a change. read more

This Walmart is one of the best in the area. I won't go back to the one in Attleboro or The small one in providence. Those two are terrible. Anyway, the service at this store is phenomenal! Right as I walked in I was asked if I needed help finding anything. I have never been asked this at any other Walmart. I had a few questions in the sporting goods section and an associate helped me out and answered every question I had. I was shocked that someone actually cared enough to not only help me find what I needed, but answered questions I had about the product. They had plenty of registers open which is unlike others I've been to. Cashing out took less than 2 min from when I approached the register. Although I live in North Smithfield and previously shopped at the Walmart in Woonsocket, I cringe at the thought of having to replenish my home with items I generally by at Walmart. My trip to the North Smithfield store is always a waste of time. From one visit to the next, I am exasperated at the fact that the shelves are empty. Whether I'm shopping for dog food, dog treats, facial tissue, hairspray, brownie mix or a file cabinet; the shelves are empty. The store is larger, but it lacks merchandise. Also, the departments seem smaller with less of a selection. In addition, I find it distasteful to see carriages full of meat, frozen items and milk products parked right in the middle of an aisle on the opposite side of the store. I also find it distasteful to see people placing clothing purchases in the same carriage as meat products. They don't belong in the same shopping cart. I have seen management asking an employee to put the food items back where they belong, without knowing how long these items have been out of refridgeration. The smaller store in Woonsocket which closed last fall had a better selection and rarely did I ever see empty shelves. In conclusion, I strongly dislike the new Super Walmart in North Smithfield, RI. I have tried repeatedly, but have been disappointed every time I shopped there. I have never left the store having been able to purchase what brought me to the store in the first place. I have found other alternatives. For example,last week I needed a new cordless phone. Walmart did not have any " in stock", only sample models.
