This is one of the few JC Penney stores that I know in the area. They had a lot of clearance items in all their departments. I saw some nice shirts for less than $10 on these racks. I believe I heard JCPenney is not doing well and the store has shown signs of this. They still have a good amount of inventory: shoes, suits, Big & Tall, jewelry, make-up, accessories, housewares, kids, young men and women. However, on our last visit there was no one to check us out. We stood by one of their 'customer service' desks on the lower level and a line began to form. One of the customers mentioned this has happened to her before. We decided to take a walk around to see if any other register had staff. We did find one cashier on the upper level who was happy to ring up our purchases. She was very friendly and we chatted a bit about how understaffed the store seemed to be. It's always sad to see a store that has been in business for so long go into distress. It's one of the anchor stores at the Warwick Mall. They offer salon services here also. Popped in today to just look around. I was surprised that many things online cannot be purchased in store but I guess they only have e so much room. Store was well organized and there were quite a few options. I wish the checkout line was marked better because a woman and I were waiting and a young man came into the next aisle and the cashier took him first. Of course he could have been a gentleman and said he wasn't next but oh well. I also had a $10 reward that apparently is only good for a short time. JCPenney has always been my go-to department store. The people here have always been nice, and the selection is good. Every couple years I try to swap out some sweaters and jeans and this is usaully the place I do it. Its not the most exciting place, but it fulfills what you need. read more

Ordered a dress for a wedding ,online , same day pick up - which was easy, great prices, ready before the time i was told. Great right?! Well no ... I got there and walked aimlessly around the store looking for something to point me in the right direction for "online pickup" two lady's ignored me while checking other customers out.. I nicely said excuse me I have a quick question and was ignored by one and the other gave me a snarky look and said "you need to wait".. which I already waited a few minutes before interrupting.. so I turned around and proceeded to journey through all the sections until I found an employee who told me where I needed to go.. I head over to the pick up counter and wait about 10 minutes while a woman helped a customer.. while training a new employee.. then it was my turn! They said "hope we can find it" and took another 10 minutes to find it.. put it on the counter and just stared at me.. I said okay am I all set and she said well yea.. here's your item.. AWKWARD. Went to buy a pair of jeans placed my kid down in his car seat and got screamed at across the store for "changing " my son when I had just placed his seat down then when I explained what I was doing I then got yelled at that she was not arguing with me and I could go to the bathroom . I bought 4 at one store and 2 more at another store....a little inconvenient but I got what I wanted and I'm very happy with my purchase...I'd like to see curtains for 63 inch panels in the stores... They're slipping. The store is stuffy, warm (ac not working properly), smelly, and the escalator has been broken for years. There's an elevator but it's hidden and not easy to find. Aside from that the store is generally clean and selection seems ample. Prices are ok but could be more competitive. I prefer Macy's for a better shopping experience. Do yourself a favor and go to Macy's or Boscovs. read more

I truly thought that JCPenney had improved and good sales with the use of coupons and rewards would make everything a fantastic, worthwhile day. Today's shopping experience proved that to be totally wrong. This is the third time I have tried to shop here using my 10.00 Cash Pass. Unfortunately, it was a day of doorbuster deals which prohibited the use of the Cash Pass on Clearance and deals which excluded coupons. Lines were long and it was difficult trying to find management to check on what was allowed and what was not acceptable. I spent about one and a half hours strolling the store looking for something intriguing for myself or for a gift. Each time I did, the cash pass was not able to be applied. My time at JCP was a total waste and my spirit was thoroughly destroyed. Clerks who tried to help me upon my request were good listeners and tried to assist. Rules and policies, however, are extremely stringent. read more

I really Hate giving a low review to an establishment that's really a nice store, but when the customer service aspect comes into play, what can you do? I really think yelp should have two categories for their reviews; one being the actual goods you're reviewing, the second being the service you received. My daughter needed to find a Patriots related gift for someone and we knew JC Penney has a decent selection if you're looking for sports related attire, etc. Their setup for cashing out consists of a general area where you get in line. There are NO price check machines so even if you need to get an actual price you need to get in this line. Once we found what she needed and I saw the long line (it's the holidays so I get it), we walked by the jewelry counter. I approached one woman and asked, "can we pay here?" And she replies, "only if we're not busy " and walks away!! So I walk up to the clerk ten feet away at the jewelry counter and ask the same thing "Can we pay for this here?" She responded, "You can check out right around the corner" and pointed to the Long line. It's the holiday season so I didn't want to make a Fuss but I was kind of dumbfounded how she wouldn't cash us out when there was literally NO ONE THERE! We proceeded to the general check out area and after 15 minutes we got to the cashier. I asked if it's general protocol that all other registers like the jewelry counter can't take a customer if it's not jewelry. She said, "You should be able to check out at any cashier who's available!" She then proceeded to say she would let her manager, Joe, know about the situation. Again, I think this store is nice. Plenty of good sales, etc. But when you have women just standing idly by when there's a huge line at their central checkout, someone needs to look into this! Kudos to the wonderful girls working tirelessly at the checkout. Zero stars to the 3 women working the jewelry counter on Sunday December 22 at 5 pm. I know most people don't like brick and mortar stores, but JCPenney's holds a special spot in my heart. They have everything you need. I only buy my bath towels and sheets from here. They recently started carrying Frye products which is super cool. I recently bought an item here and liked it so much I wanted to get the same thing as a gift for my friend. They marked it down from the 5 days earlier, I mentioned it to the cashier, he looked up my sale and re-rang it for the discount! Man, I love Penney's! Also... Sephora inside? How convenient. Returns are always a cluster. I either get someone that is new, that got 5 mins of training and is struggling to figure out what to do, or someone that doesn't listen when you're trying to tell them something, and finally there's always something wrong w/their system and they're having difficulty pulling up the order to do the return. I went to pick my ring up after it being sized and the lady that helped me was a total bitch. She told me she needed the slip I was given when sending the ring out and I told her I wasn't given a slip and with an attitude she told me yes I was. I told her no I wasn't and she told me yes I was because I got the protection plan. With the holidays rolling around, you might be thinking off doing a holiday photo shoot to get those special postcards to send out to friends and family. Well, my siblings and brother in law did just that. My sister snagged a Groupon and we are able to choose one template to customize with photos from the shoot. Scheduling the time was simple, just on their website. After checking in, we waited maybe around ten minutes before being brought to the studio in the back. I haven't done a shoot before but I am sure you can pay many times more money to have a more professional studio. We had two people during the shoot, one as the photographer and the other setting up the backgrounds and helping direct us. The workers were friendly and made the shoot quite fun! After the shoot, another worker sat down at a computer and went over the photos with us. He made suggestions as to what photos to choose and how to position them on the card. Redeeming the Groupon code was also simple, we simply gave it to him before we started customizing. Would recommend for your first shoot for the holidays! read more

Can I just talk about the easiest return I've ever made in my entire life (and I do A LOT of shopping). I've had simple cut and dry returns go awry- this was anything BUT that. I purchased a blouse mid January for a vacation. I was away for several weeks but when I returned I tried the blouse back on and it either tore down the armpit or was torn there because it's in a really difficult to see spot. Now the blouse was over the return date, but I didn't want to pay $30+ for a shirt I'd never been able to wear so today (3/13). So I decided to give it a shot and went right to customer service. He immediately said it had to be defective and the best part was- I had pain in cash and he gave me cash back! I thought the most I would get- would be a store credit! Six long months Six months ago, rampaging floods ripped through Rhode Island and devastated Warwick Mall. Cars were under water and six feet of the stuff flooded the inside of the mall. Many businesses never recovered. It took six months, almost to the day, but Penny's had it's reopening celebration today. Remembering how the place looked six months ago, it's difficult to believe that it actually came back. Marcy's, the other anchor store, won't reopen until the first of the year, but it will eventually return. The floods were an event that won't be forgotten for a long time. Many people lost their homes and lives were disrupted. Ironically the day of the reopening we are once again having heavy rains but only slight flooding. Bad things happen to good people, but people do preserve. Penny's rebirth is a big event around here and the store looks better than ever. It's not like I was a frequently shopper at Penny's but it is damn good to see it back. read more

Don't ever try to return a item without your receipt! The credit card you used is useless. Their statement we receive in the mail also useless. In the end they just pick your pock and refund your item at 10 cents on the dollar. I had the manager hep me with this on my last visit to JC Penny. I asked what do they do with Christmas gifts and no receipts? He said they to get a discounted refund. read more

I was expecting a long wait and lots of people. It was quick, on time and we had alot of assistance when it came to picking out what photos and packages we wanted. Highly recommend. Photographer was nice. My dad has a bad back, and they even kept making sure he had somewhere to sit while waiting. I would definitely go back and will. Great job. read more

Okay so I will write this review for the store itself AND the photo studio. 1st the store. I love this JCPenny and the location , right inside warwick mall they have a huge selections , men's , women's , teens , jewelry , shoes , sephora and etc etc they have it all. The store always has a huge selection and always have amazing deals and always have a huge clearance section. They have a small sephora section it's always super crowded in there I can never get help so I don't try that's a bummer. The jewelry section is so much fun , amazing prices and beautiful items I got 2 pairs of earrings with numerous diamonds and they were both amazing prices the workers are always pleasant , even though it's hard to find help and difficult to find a register because they're all always so long ( hate that ). One thing I don't like is the store can get very cluttered and messy I know this is the issue because of the shoppers but they need more employees to pick up especially with the holidays around the corner. The parking lot can be wild but more than enough spaces around JCPenny. Now to the photo studio. I have come here twice and I always have Kristen she's so much fun and she's great I really enjoy her. She makes you feel special and she loves photography , I really enjoy working with her and I will be back for her ! There was a young man in the front working the register he was super nice as well , what an amazing team. The only think that sucks is they get backed up really really fast and you could be waiting wayyyyy after your appointment time. I waited maybe 30 minutes the most recent times and an hour and a half the 1st time I came here. ( Both times I had appointments). But overall I do enjoy this store. read more

I have just come back home after visiting Jessica who has been my stylist for around 6 months. You know you are happy when you look in the mirror and you really feel like your hairdo brings out the best in your face etc. Not only is she a master stylist, she is super professional and really cares about what I want. She has a great temperament and I am always amazed at how she puts her own finishing touches to her work. She flat irons and curls my hair after she does the blow dry. The ladies (and gent) in the salon are always courteous and caring! The pricing is reasonable and I feel really glad to have found this salon. Now... I love this store, jC Penny in the Warwick Mall is always clean well lit and well staffed with very good sales people whenever I shop there. I don't shop a lot and my visits are far apart but I'm alway satisfied when I visit the store. I also have to compliment the buyers. I always find styles I like they really keep it fresh. Portrait staff are very unorganized. They also chat with each other about whatever they want, in front of anyone they want. They are not the nicest staff, either. They made fun of an infant who was chewing on her ribbon. One staff member personally walked into the studio to "help" with a baby that was making some noise which apparently annoyed her. The staff also drinks on duty. (Mostly soda, but you get the idea.) Also, taking pictures takes way too long. It takes at least 20 minutes per family. Most of the time the photo staff are trying to get you into the EXACT position that they want. I think a lot of people can relate when I say that. But maybe not. I don't know, maybe you love the service. Anyway, to sum it all up, "meh" service, bad staff. But that's just my thinking. I don't know if I'll be coming back. Maybe. Okay, I'm done rambling on about this place. Bye. EDIT: Photography staff were very nice. It seems the problems with the waiting were only because of the infants. But what can you expect when trying to take pictures in December? I'll probably come back next year, just in, say, October or something like that so there isn't a ridiculously long wait. JC Penney's wonders why they are losing business, well this is an example of why: We went in to BUY a new set of cookware for ourselves. We looked at what they had on the shelf and then went over to another department store to compare products/prices. We returned to JCP to buy a set but we could not find a boxed set on the shelf. There was a saleswoman who we asked but she was either not interested or did not know enough to offer any help. She never asked anyone else in the department for assistance nor did she go and look anywhere else for the set. We left and walked over to the other store and bought a more expensive set. Worst purchase experience ever- should be Zero stars. purchased a diamond ring. Told service person the size- 6. He orders the wrong size. Bring the ring back and tell them it's wrong. They measure and confirm. Order a 6 again. They ship me an 8. Yes and 8. Return it again and request a 6. Mins you it wasn't cheap - $2100 ring. They ship it again and it's a 7.5. They just don't care. Nothing done to compensate for my time. Also it was a birthday gift and I missed the date. Never Ever Ever again. Go somewhere else. read more

JcPenny portrait studio, I have to say is horrible. When ever I go there for portraits I make an appointment, but still have to wait 45 minutes to actually go in . I've gone there about 6 times and this has happened to me only once but now that's it's happened again, I'm done! I will never be going there again. They only have one studio and it takes forever to get our pictures done.... Horrible horrible experience! I'm going to have to find another portrait studio. read more

The only other time I'd been into this JCP was when I visited Sephora well over a year ago. I was in line at another store and complimented a woman standing in line in front of me on her top and asked her where she purchased it from. JCP she said and so off I went. While I didn't wind up buying the top that I so adored, it looked much better on that woman than it did on me, I did however; end up buying a devilishly cute dress by Mango for $40. It was $50, but I found a $10 off $50 coupon on my phone and presented it to the cashier upon checkout. I most definitely could've spent more time and money here, but I'm trying to rectify my out of control spending habits. I feel like this JCP is maybe smaller than others in the area, but that's just my personal opinion. That having been said, there is a good selection of juniors, women's and men's clothing as well as a small shoe department, handbags and jewelry. The prices are quite fair and I noticed that mostly everything was on sale or on clearance. I will for sure be going back to JCP as a new option for some stylish and affordable clothing for the office and/or a night out on the town. read more

Took my daughter in for a trim and she was practically shaved bald by hair stylist Chrissy . Poor kid is mortified and hasn't removed her hat since we left and she has to go to school like this . She even had the nerve to charge 27 dollars to unevenly shave her head . Absolutely awful don't let them near your hair read more

I have always loved JC Penney's ladies clothing and shoes. My husband does not like men's wear. I find very good deals but the ladies dept appears to always be in complete disarray.
