I took my daughter Prom dress shopping for her first time today. We drove 90 minutes from connecticut to go to a store down the street from Sonyas. Unfortunately they were not very friendly but my daughter tried on about 11 dresses until we had enough Of it. On our way out we passed Sonyas stopped in to see we were met as soon as we opened the door bright smiling faces so friendly right away asked my daughter what she was looking for she turned around grabbed a dress from a shelf and told her "try this on" it looks like it would fit you! I am Not emotional I do not cry a lot! When my daughter looked in the mirror and her smile as well as the sales person smile My daughter said that it this is my dress! Not only did she take the time to be with my daughter the entire time she was so full of positive energy the whole store was. The boss came and looked they really made her day! I do not leave reviews or recommendation anyone to places but I will be back for every other occasion and the prices were unbelievable! This was the first time we spent $$$ on a dress for my daughter. The day she picked up her dress there was a rip in the slit, runs in the material and stains that were not there the day she tried it on and put it on layaway. I was appalled at the condition of the dress. I was given a $50 discount and was told the store's seamstress would make it right. My mom went to pick it up the next day. She was told I knew they couldn't get the stains out and I was okay with it. Who in their right mind is ok with paying $400+ for a dress with stains?!?!!! Thankfully my mother was able to save the day and fixed the slit, when she did she found the "seamstress" actually put a hole in the material and tried to cover it. Needless to say we were very disappointed in this experience. read more

Purchased a beautiful Jovani dress full price for prom plus shoes. We were informed that they kept a log of school, style, dress and color so dresses would not be bought by another student from the same school. We were upset to see another student was able to purchase the same dress in another color with no concern with their "policy'. When contacted I got the run around and was told that they can't control who buys what dress and the dress could be bought anywhere (NY,CT, NJ). I understand that but they bought the same dress from YOU. I called the competition down the street who told me that their policy is to never sell the same dress regardless of color to students who go to the same school. Very disappointed! read more

She gave me honest feedback and picked many dresses that complimented me well. She knew my size without having to ask and immediately went to work pulling dresses in my price range. The store was attractive, clean, neat, and organized. The changing rooms were large and private. They also had dresses in every style, size, and price range. I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was there today. It's so hard for my daughter to find a dress. There are not many options out there. She was so excited to have at least 15 to try on. Nelly was exceptional. She was very attentive and helpful. It made it much easier. Beautiful dresses and very helpful staff who helped me pull dresses, adjust them, and gave me advice on style and color. I saw one reviewer that complained about men having to sit on the other side of the store. I saw a lady and a man walk in together and saw that they politely asked him to avoid the fitting room area. There's a good reason for that. My boob definitely popped out when I was adjusting a dress outside my fitting room. It's to make women feel comfortable. Unfortunately today when we visited this boutique my friend left in tears. I was not even able to get this women's name, but I have never been more angered with a women in my life. To openly humiliate a young girl about her size is the definition of body shaming. I understand dress sizing, but please just let a women try on things she likes. As a women I know my own body best, and for me to sit and listen to older women say that my friend is lying about her size is ridiculous. I was appalled. We tried on 100s of prom dresses before going there so I think we know what fits and looks good. For older women to body shame a high school girl while she's in the dressing room is disgusting. I was not even able to talk to my friend who was in tears in the dressing room with out being shoved out of the way. I am just so surprised that this happened, and honestly disappointed. I understand Covid can cause difficulties, but does that mean respect is not given to customers? Personally I would think that a company would want to sell a dress, especially at the prices they had for how ugly they were. Worst experience ever do not recommend going if you are above a size 6 unless your okay with being degraded. read more

Nelly and the girls at Sonya's were amazing. The owner was a different story. I arrived with my 3 and 16 year old and was greeted with a sign indicating children under 13 needed to stay in a seating area. I respect rules which is why before we even stepped further into the dress store, I asked Nelly if we should come back since I had my toddler, she said no, she's being so well behaved, please just don't let her touch anything. Bright eyed my 3 year old loved looking at "the princess dresses" and politely walked around. As we walked around separately from Nelly and the other employees I was abruptly confronted by the owner who had as much tact as President Trump. I told her an employee had told me it was acceptable and I saw the sign but was told it was okay. She proceeded to rudely address me in front of my child, customers and other staff and told me we couldn't walk around and needed to sit in chairs away from my older daughter. Now my toddler was upset because she was separated from her sister. I finally realized I was an adult with a credit card and decided to get my daughter so we could give another prom dress boutique our business. When I went to get her, the same employees told me no, it was ok and that we could stay and that they were sorry and would handle it. Well...never once did the woman who at the end of our visit I found out was the owner apologize or have eye contact with me. She could have enforced her rule which I respect, without being rude (and I'm being kind). I never write reviews but since the owner has a bed side manner she isn't willing to correct or apologize for- it's time to let people know there are other kind respectful small business owners in the state besides this one to give their business to. read more
