Was having trouble finding a prom dress for my daughter that she felt comfortable in. She is full figured and top-heavy and was not having any luck at any of the usual places, so I figured I would try here. Not only did she pick things out for my daughter that we NEVER would've gravitated towards, she helped her with the fitting and boosted her confidence so much. Let me start by saying, the owner is a hot ticket. Never underestimate a woman entrepreneur. From a glance and a few questions the owner will point you in the best direction for what you're looking for. She cuts no corners in finding you what works for you. To define her customer service talent I'd say: she is fashionably blunt. If the girls (boobage) doesn't look quite right, she's going to tell you and she's going to fix the problem. If the color washes you out, she's going to suggest a different color. It's obvious that she loves what she does, and she's good at it. She is not going to try to sell you something that is not right, doesn't fit well, wrong color, wrong occasion or any of those combinations simply to sell the piece. She is truly invested in finding something that works for the whole you. Her longevity in business is a testament to her talent and ability to stock that store with only the best for her customers. It's important to note that she is a specialty store for plus size women. Although I do believe she does have size 12 and upward. She also has selections of bras that range in all different band and cup sizes. She's happy to fit you, and resize where needed. Botticelli's also has a large selection of accessories everything from purses to jewelry. For years I secretly dreaded the day I got engaged....Why? Because that meant I would have to go to some snobby lil wedding dress boutique that carried a 10 as their largest sample size and hang this beautiful gown up to my curvy body and use my imagination of what that dress might look on me in my size.....never being able to try it on and just hope and pray that when it came in it would actually flatter my body type. AHH YEA NO!!! That wasn't going to work! This was my ONE day, the day every girl dreams of.....I needed to feel nothing less then FABULOUS!! I did a Google search and found Botticelli's in RI. I made an appointment for that Saturday and was making the 2 hr drive with my mother. We arrived that Saturday and met Jan in person and I instantly felt like I was shopping with a long lost sister! She was so gracious, professional, honest (which I really appreciate). Honesty in plus size clothing world is rare, not with Jan....she truly wants each and every bride to feel AMAZING on their wedding day! She doesn't stand there and say, "Oh yea that looks great" just to make a sale.....she is so helpful and really knows how to dress the many shapes we plus size gals come in! My mom was visiting from out of town and we wanted to go gown shopping for a "mother of the bride" dress. After a quick search on yelp, I came across this shop. I wasn't even looking for a plus-sized place, but was super happy to find out that it was. Selection: A+ They have a vast selection of formal gowns including "make to order" and "off the rack." The fabrics were very high quality, especially for the price! Price: A+ Most of the off the rack dresses were in the $200 range which is basically the same price point as David's Bridal, for a much higher quality gown (and some for even less $$). Selection of "casual" wear: A+ On top of finding 3 great options for the gown, we found the most amazing casual maxi dress for my mom to wear for the rehearsal dinner. Current, stylish, and looked amazing on her. Service: A++: Jan gave us her virtually undivided attention; helped my mom in and out of dresses and pinned them to show what alterations could do. Possibly the best experience in wedding shopping and everyday clothes shopping ever!! Wedding dress shopping can be stressful enough for any woman. But when you're full-figured, it can be an exercise in futility. Botticelli is a fantastic place to shop. After I became engaged to my now wife, we took a trip here to look for wedding dresses. We walked in with zero expectation for what the products or services would be like. We were greeted by Jan and her friendly staff with open arms. Jan had plenty of styles for her to try on and she was very helpful in picking out the right gown. Ultimately it was on the second trip with her mother that my wife ended up purchasing the dress along with all the proper under garments. A few weeks later I got to thinking that maybe I should be trying on gowns as well. I was not planning on wearing a wedding dress but we had such a nice time at Botticelli and there were so many options I thought, what the heck- its worth a try. Jan fit me in last minute on a Saturday because my sister was in town from NYC and I wanted her there with me. I did find a stunning gown which we purchased (special order) that day. My experience that day was not stressful at all. It was actually fun and exciting! I've been meaning to write a review on this great store, and it's truly amazing owner Jan. However, after my recent trip back, I couldn't let any more time pass without letting everyone else know what a great place this is. I accidentally stumbled upon Botticelli's when I was looking for my wedding dress. I had made an appointment, and was pleasantly surprised when I walked it. To great me was the owner Jan, who is outgoing and simply awesome. She quickly got the details of my wedding, and asked me what i envisioned. After trying numerous dresses which all looked great on, I finally found my gown. It was a dress that Jan had picked, which didn't have anything that I asked for - no lace, and no buttons. However, the second I was able to turn around and look, i was floored - I loved the dress, and how it flattered me. Upon walking out, Jan grabbed the absolutely perfect accessories and truly made me feel like a princess. After marveling the way I looked, that rush of tears came on, and I knew that was my dress. I bought that gorgeous dress, and the accessories that Jan expertly picked out. I returned yesterday in search of the ideal bolero to go over my dress. Jan remembered who I was, the dress I got, and was able to pick out a great style. I was so excited that she remembered me. It was a great feeling. I'm extremely confident her guidance to make me shine, and her honest opinion. She also genuinely cared about me, and my concerns no matter what they were. I had to get a new dress for the Navy Ball in Groton. I'm a size 14 to 16 and I'm 5' 10" tall, so I can almost never find a nice gown, and I attend two of these balls a year. Before I came here, I went to Macy's and JCPenny, both who turned me away by just saying to my face, "We don't have anything in your size." Nordstroms was much nicer but still had no luck. I found Boticelli's online and thought I would try it. From the moment I walked in the door, Jan was super nice to us AND practical and helpful. From the get go, she said I needed a better bra and some shape wear to make these gowns. She put me into the BEST bra ever....I couldn't believe how much slimmer it made me look and had me stand up straight! It was worth it right there. She also helped me get the shape wear on, and made it such a relaxed, easy going atmosphere that my friends and I were just having a good time. We tried several gowns, and I found a great one. I got the dress, the bra, and the shape wear. My friend also got a bra fitting and it made such a huge difference. I will come back again in the fall when the Navy Birthday Ball comes up. Just met the owner today for a personal appointment and Jan was lovely, as was her staff. She made my mother and I feel very welcome and comfortable and was incredibly funny and sweet throughout the several hours we were there. I ended up getting an incredible dress, that through luck alone, I was able to take home with me right away! All told, the dress, veil, accessories, jewelry and so forth were an incredible steal, and I'll need very little in the way of alterations. Jan set me up with a fantastic seamstress who will drive all the way to me in central Massachusetts! I can't stress enough how much I am NOT the type to like the center of attention and Jan made me feel comfortable, happy, secure, and, amazingly, beautiful. If you are engaged to be married and looking for a plus size wedding dress GO TO BOTTICELLI'S!!! l can't stress this enough. My first trip wedding dress shopping was to be my last trip as I found the perfect dress for me last Friday. I was given a 2 hour appointment and enjoyed every minute of the two hours. Botticelli's carries designer dresses in actual women's sizes so that you can truly see what the dress will look like. Jan has experience and knowledge in the designs and cuts of the dresses and puts you at ease from the moment you step through the door. There was no pressure to buy and they had all styles of dresses whether you want formal or modern or princess. Having worked in retail for 15 years prior, I can say with certainty this was excellent customer service. This store is a hidden gem to the plus size community and I can only hope other plus size brides have the same experience in dress shopping that I had. I didn't have a chance to shop the rest of the store, however a few items did catch my eye and there is a line of formal wear (gowns) as well. I will definitely be back to browse. read more

As soon as I got engaged, (OK, let me be honest here, *well before* it was official), I started researching wedding dresses on the Internet, specifically "plus size" wedding dresses. I looked at everything, including online selections at Macy's, Lord and Taylor, and Nordstrom's (when I was thinking about a more low key affair) and even David's and Alfred Angelo (when I starting thinking about a more traditional to-do.) The department store selections ran from the simplest to the ridiculous (micro-mini, anyone?) to the over-the-top (including an ugly-as-sin Kate Middleton knock-off.) Yet, out of the dozens of dresses they had listed online, only a small handful were available in plus size, and they weren't all that glamorous. They were either frumpy-dumpy curtain-like tents designed to hide as much as possible, or they were matronly numbers (just because I'm a 30+ bride doesn't mean I want to look "mature.") If I were a size 8, I would have had more online options, but I'm not, so... I also wanted the experience of trying on wedding dresses and chosing the one that was perfect for me, not buying something based on the comparative online shopping I normally do for work clothes. I need to be price-conscious (not like those crazy women on "Say Yes to the Dress" who mortage out their $10,000 purchases for a dress they will only wear once), but I didn't want to buy somthine online just because it fit and was a good deal. So next I made an appointment and tried on a bunch of dresses at Alfred Angelo where I almost fell into the same "trap" I was trying to avoid online, one so many big girl shoppers fall into. I call it the "almost" trap for clothes shopping because the clothes are "almost" right: it fits, it's OK, and it's not too expensive, so I'll buy it. Luckily, my M.o.H. was the voice of reason who talked me down by saying, "Keep looking around. You never know what you might find, and you can always come back and get this one if you don't find something you like better." She was right. We hadn't been to Botticelli yet. It took some doing to get to Botticelli's. I had to cancel one appointment before I was able to make it up to RI from CT, but once I arrived there (without an appointment this time), I got so much attention and I was treated with utmost respect by the owner herself. Jan worked with me directly for close to two hours on a Sunday (I was the only one in the store) during a sample sale; it was more than worth the two hour drive. I have been in more than my fair share of weddings as a bridesmaid and M.o.H., and every single time I went to a bridal shop before Botticelli's, I was made to feel like a second class citizen, treatly rudely and once or twice, I was made to paid more for my dresses than the other girls in the wedding party. Yes, at an 18, I was bigger than most of the other girls, but $40 worth of "bigger," I don't think so. My most pleasant surprise in terms of trying on the sample dresses was that they *all* fit--I must have tried on about 10 or 12 before I started narrowing them down to the one I ultimately bought--and they were all beautiful and well cared for samples. If I had ended up ordering a dress based on a style I liked, I would have expected it to be perfect, but since I was trying on samples, I was expecting there to be some imperfections, but here were none. I love my dress--it's everything I said I didn't want: it's lacey, sparkley, strapless, with a train and corset back--and it's perfect. If I had seen the picture in print before I saw it in person, I would not have bought it, but because Jan encouraged me to try it on, I was incredibly surprised by how great it looked on me and how good it made me feel. The veil I tried on to give me the "full effect" is what sealed the deal. I looked amazing from head to toe. Finally, Jan suggested undergarments and the veil, but there was absolutely no "hard sell" in any way like there was at Alfred Angelo, and my designer dress is of a much better quality fabric, cut, and crafting, and together with the other items cost *less* than the A.A. dress by itself. If you are a plus size bride from the Northeast, you owe it to yourself to drive to Botticelli's--I can almost guarantee you that Jan has Kleinfeld's plus-size department beat--she's a true professional in every sense of the word, and her plus size bridal shop is "world class." I just had the worst experience imaginable at Botticellis. First of all , I saw a dress from Burlington that was $19.99 for well over $100.00. Jan asked me if I recently lost a lot of weight....which I think is offensive. I told her that I actually gained. She told me my bra was wrong which may be helpful to some. I worked for a reputable lingerie company, so I know this skill. When I came out in the overpriced dress, she was sure to let me know that it was more flattering than what I came in with. Thanks Jan! You know how to make a woman feel terribly. Because of a time pinch, I was still going to buy the overpriced dress! Thank goodness, when I looked in my trunk for my purse, I realized that my purse was forgotten at work. This gave me the driving time to realize that this is not the kind of woman I should give my money to. Build people up , do not tear them down. Left there crying. Also, this is the first review I have ever written. I like to point out the positive. The owner of this business is the most unprofessional person I have ever encountered in a retail setting. A friend of mine (who is getting married) purchased a gown there but when she took it home, she realized that it was damaged. The store's stated return policy is that they will offer a store credit within 10 days of purchase. We stopped there to return the dress for a store credit and the minute the owner saw my friend with her dress in hand, she had a nasty look on her face. When my friend pointed out the flaw, the owner proceeded to tell us that a seamstress could repair it. At this point, I asked why someone would pay for alterations on a dress that had been sold to her with an obvious flaw and was about to ask if she could have a return/exchange. However, I couldn't get there because she became completely unhinged at my question. She basically berated me and told me I was being standoffish and that she was "about to" offer to pay for the alterations or offer to return the dress. This is surprising since that's not what their policy states. However I could not understand her overreaction to my question since we were actually in agreement that someone shouldn't have to pay for the alterations. She whipped the hanger and dress off the hook and stomped to the register, stopping on the way to get in my face about what I had asked. We went to the register and as she was entering the return she kept turning back at me and telling me that there was no need for me to "be that way" I responded that all I did was ask a valid question. She could not let it go and continued to try to intimidate me. She wanted me to think I was in the wrong for pointing out that she had sold a flawed dress. If I had been beligerant, I might understand this reaction, but her behavior was completely out of proportion to what I had asked. I then asked her why she would react/speak to customers that way and she became even more agitated. At this point she noticed that instead of returning the dress, she had actually charged my friend's credit card for it again. She didn't apologize for the error, she just told us it's because she "never does returns" and repeated that a couple times, basically trying to make us feel that we were in the wrong for asking for one. At this point I just kept my mouth shut because my friend was visibly upset by this woman's reaction. My friend, who is a repeat customer, would have been perfectly happy with a store credit but the owner just soured the whole experience so I'm glad it was a refund because my friend won't set foot in there again. When we got to the car she actually started crying because she was stressed about the wedding and upset that this woman reacted in the manner she did. There are lots of good reviews on here for this store and it seems that if you're spending money there they are very helpful but if you have a complaint/try to return something the owner becomes completely unreasonable and rude. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. There is no reason to treat your customers that way. Even if a customer is being difficult (which we were not) a good business owner knows how to keep their cool. read more

I got engaged in 2007 and began my search for the perfect dress at a "traditional" bridal boutique. Why they thought a size 8 sample would fit my CURVACEOUS body is beyond me!! I saw a few I liked, but the lack of a proper sample for me to try made it difficult............So, even though I live in Boston, I remembered a dress I had purchased from Botticelli a few years prior for a formal event. The experience then was SO positive that I told them that when I got engaged, I'd come back for my wedding dress. I made an appointment and went alone (didnt like the idea of 5/6 opinions). Jan and Bonnie (I think that was her name, she's no longer there) were AMAZING!! First of all, the samples were in sizes like 24/28......great for us Rubenesque babes!!! The selection was wonderful, the service was great and the women in the store were a joy! The dress I chose had straps, but I preferred a sleeve, so they ordered matching fabric and Dianne (tailor they use) did the required alterations and added the sleeves - no-one could tell that the sleeves were an addition! The dress was gorgeous, and I felt gorgeous in it!! AND the dress ended up costing a lot less than I had budgeted - always a plus!! Today was my third time in the store.. The first time was to buy my wedding dress in January 2014- great experience, I bought it right on the spot and took it home that day! However she no longer carries wedding dresses (so she has more room for clothes). The second time was for dresses for my grandfathers funeral and wake, February 2014.. I got what I needed and got several complements at the services. My grandpa would have been proud. My third visit was today. I have a big weekend ahead of me and wanted to look nice, so I knew where to go! I walked in and Jan immediately recognized me and remembered my name- what?! I told her what was going on and that I wanted to check out her winter clearance racks because I just don't have the money to spend more then $100 on one dress! I picked a few to try, and fell in love with three dresses (and I got the approval from jan and my friend who was with me of course). Since they were on clearance for 75% off I could afford all three! As I got dressed Jan brought over a pair of jeans because I mentioned that I was going to look at those next. They fit perfect and looked great!! Also 75% off! I didn't even tell her my jean size because I don't know it, I haven't worn them in years! I also got duplicate of one of the dresses in two other sizes because I am losing weight and because it was so inexpensive to begin with and after the sale was only $7.50! (Not normal for this store... The quality is reallllly good on everything and the prices reflect that.). So I walked out if there in my hot new jeans and five dresses for $82 bucks! I am getting married, and though I have a longer than most engagement, I have already started the dress shopping. Mostly because my mom and my MoH are super excited to have "dress up the bride" time, but also to see what I really like and really don't like. I did do the normal David's Bridal route, and a couple of other bridal boutiques, but I quickly got discouraged. Being a bigger gal and still wanting to try on pretty gowns feels like a sin in half those places, almost like a "how dare you want to be pretty, you're fat!" type of feeling. I actually went into one shop and was only able to only put on 2 dresses in the entire store. Very depressing let me tell you. That experience turned me off of dress shopping for quite awhile. Then my mom found this place. We were both super excited about it too. I was going to be able to actually put on these dresses, as opposed to just holding them up to me and trying to imagine what it would look like!! Yay!!! And I was able to fit into all of the dresses that I tried on, and I looked fairly nice in all of them. It is just that, about half way through our appointment I felt that I was not really being heard. I was trying to explain that I do not like beading; I do not want beading to be a foremost fixture on my wedding gown. I also would like to have a dress that is of a ball-gown silhouette not an a-line, though I would not rule a-line out; I had tried on enough gowns to know this. In the spectrum of wedding gowns these two opinions still leave you with a very wide berth. I must have tried on about 10 dresses there and nearly each one that the woman pulled was an a-line gown with beads on it. After a while my mom and I just threw in the towel and decided that as nice as the place was, it was just not the place that my wedding gown was going to be found. We are pretty sure that woman who helped us had it in her head what plus sized girls should be wearing and what I wanted just didn't fall into her idea. *sigh* I will say that she was really nice and very helpful; it was just a little frustrating that I, as the bride, was not being heard. Not to sound like a complete diva, but I am the one that has to wear the darned thing after all. The shop itself was quite nice; clean and well organized. They have very nice jewelry there; quite a few sets of earrings that I would have loved to bring home with me, and my mom did end up buying a very nice scarf. The woman who owns it is very nice too, and she knows what she is talking about, really a great resource for us curvy girls. I do think that I would go back down there to buy some decent jeans too. I will say that their parking is of the "on a slant" variety and thus made it a bit challenging to fit my mother's giant SUV in the lot, but if you have a normal sized car you should be fine. read more

I flew up to the Boston/Providence area to get a wedding dress with my wedding being just four months away I couldn't wait any longer. Although I didn't buy my dream dress from Jan...she was amazing!! Treats you like family and just down right real. She did hook me up with it works and I'm so glad she did. If you're a curvy woman looking for a fabulous shopping experience, head to Botticelli's. Jan, the owner, and her staff are so knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. I have two daughters being married this year and went to Botticelli's on the recommendation of my younger daughter. Jan and Eve were so good at advising me on styles and calming my fears that I would look "too fat." When my gown came in, the bride-to-be (my older daughter) and I went together to pick it up. Jan served us champagne and we toasted my lovely gown. I also purchased a great casual dress and other clothes. The prices are good and the quality of the clothes is excellent. Let me start by saying that Jan and her staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about style,proper fitting of undergarments as well as the clothes themselves. My friend Linda and I went in to find a formal gown for her sister Lisa who was unable to accompany us. Jan asked a few basic questions and very swiftly produced a varied assortment of beautiful dresses to try on. I was the model and with each dress I learned more about fit,style etc... The folks @ Botticelli are top notch! From the moment you walk through the door you are made welcome. I was planning a surprise birthday party for my husband and had driven by and saw what I thought would be the perfect dress in their window. By the time I went in the display had changed but they still had the dress. They also found me other choices as well and when I put it the dress from the window display I was unsure, but they made me feel like a movie star! From the perfect bra fitting to the little details and accessories, she has it covered! Think you can't afford it? Not a chance. Her prices are reasonable and she also has plenty of items always available for sale or clearance- I always find an amazing deal. You will not get this kind of service and knowledge anywhere.
