We had no choice in our decision to come here except that Budget rent a car did not have a adequate variety of car booster seats for my seven year old, and this was the closest place. Not to knock this place, but I generally boycott Walmart due to poor wages and crappy health care insurance the company provides. Anyway, a quick seven minute drive from the Airport, I entered the box store and the car seats were a straight shot in the rear left of the store. Huge selection of about 20 types. I quickly located what suited our needs. Twenty three dollars later I was rolling. My son now safely boosted in his seat. It's Walmart, so don't have any unrealistic expectations, but I for one am a fan. I found some local goodies to take home to friends, and some stationery supplies I needed for some work I was doing. You might be asking-what the fuck is a bay area J.A.P. doing at a Wal-Mart? Well, this is in Kauai, so I guess I could rationalize the trip to the hell of society justified. Everything is ass expensive, and when one needs to stock up the apartment for a week with minutia (flip flops, water shoes, boogie board, cereal, ketchup, etc.) this is a decent place with reasonable prices (for Kauai). I tend to splurge a lot on other things, so when I can save a few bucks, I will. Wal-Mart fit the bill, but try looking for me in one here (even if I threaten to go). It was a great place for me to pick up some affordable snacks/gifts for friends and family back home, as well as some lotion for myself (which I had run out of). Walmart; it's pretty much the only show on this tiny island since there is no Target and IMHO, it ranks just a wee bit higher than K-Mart. It's not a typical Walmart as you'd find here in CO; it's much cleaner and the workers are much friendlier. Plus, typically there are no Walmartians to be seen. Prices are good and this is the place to get knick knacks, although I like the selection of stickers (bumper stickers, laptop stickers, etc) at Long's Drugs better. For even quicker checkout, go to the garden center as the lines there always seem shorter. Be aware, there are no plastic bags, so you must bring your own bag (whether plastic from the mainland or reusable) or be charged for their Walmart reusable bags. If you are a tourist and don't own a pair of rubbah slippahs, stop here to pick up a pair; it's Hawaii's version of mass transit, and you'll look like less of a tourist that way, too read more

I normally do not like Walmarts, but on Kauai, it is a must just like Costco. Great place to stock up on things you don't need bulk of, like Redbulls, mac nut ice cream, coffee, beach mats, etc. at close to mainland prices (you will realize that everything on Kauai is overpriced). This place was also really good for inexpensive souvenirs for your beloved mainland friends who didn't get to go with you on vacation. Kind of ashamed to admit this.. but we came to this Walmart at least 5 times during our vacation. You won't find cheaper souvenirs anywhere on the island and they have a pretty good selection, too. A whole aisle of chocolate macadamias (all brands), Kauai Kookies (my fave!), mauna loa nuts, and Hawaiian candies as well as a souvenirs section with magnets, keychains, etc. We were also able to get some fresh flower leis in the fridges in the front. Employees are as friendly as you can expect Walmart employees to be, prices are reasonable, and parking is easy. read more

Ridiculous policies/customer service. They think they're Sam's club or something, and even if you have just one item, and have your receipt readily available, they will force you to go out the designated door so they can highlight your receipt, which forces you to go around the cart carousel, and through the mass of people in the self checkout, then stand in line, even in the busy hours. They aren't a membership place, so this is technically illegal. Plus they are very rude, and don't take returns. Avoid at all costs. (We had to go here because they had an electronic that we couldn't get elsewhere on the island unfortunately) read more

Terrible customer service. After one time of trying to inflate a mattress we just bought, it didn't hold the air in. After explaining to customer service and even their manager nicely that "we just dont want this kind of low quality product", they wont give a refund. They are just willing to do an exchange. Also, instead of expressing kindness and concern or anything human, they are repeating their two "sentence-protocol-policy-thing" like robots. It is hard to run into such horrible and unkind customer service these days. One of the biggest corporation in the world, duping their customers for a few bucks. Great place for staples at a reasonable price as compared to tourist traps around the island. Got some bread, fixings, fishing pole, drinks, towels and even ice cream. There's even a McDonald's in here with an abbreviated menu for a quick bite to eat. read more

I've been in this Wal Mart many times for some years and have to say it's the worst Wal Mart I've ever visited, bar none. The first night on Kauai this year we went there prior to heading to our condo and were shocked to see that many of the big coolers were virtually empty, as were a lot of other places in the store. We did our best, then visited Safeway which had fully stocked shelves and is a much cleaner and more pleasant place to shop. Wal Mart's management on Kauai seems to be mediocre at best and they obviously don't do nearly as well as other stores in keeping stocked and keeping the store and grounds clean. Virtually every of dozens of visits to this location found problems with common products not in stock and certain shelves empty. It's a chronic problem. As a customer it's not pleasant to consistently find many common items out of stock, but as a stockholder it's atrocious. read more

Since I dont have a costco membership, Walmart is a MUST when we go to Kauai! This is a huge walmart-- a great one-stop shop to stock on up Hawaiian Sun, water bottles, Maui chips and snacks for your trip!!! They even have a large jewelry section for you spontaneous couples that wish to get married! too cute! Kauai also has adopted the 'no-plastic bags' law, so make sure to bring your own reusable bags or buy one while youre there (otherwise you will be struggling!!) Just as I expected, where there's a WalMart, there's a certain type of crowd that will shop there... you know what I mean? The WalMart on Kauai was no different, just the crowd was more local and i suppose slightly less trashy. I did however find the perfect nut lei to use for my wedding that I could not find anywhere else on the island. It cost about $25 and I still have it. This is the only Walmart in Kauai, and it does not have any direct competitors. Despite the lack of competitors though, Walmart maintains its low prices. You can find all the things in a typical Walmart here: clothes, electronics, food, groceries, household products, etc. For tourists, there is a huge selection of gifts to choose from: shirts, magnets, chocolates, etc. For dining options, there is a McDonald's here. There is plenty of time to shop since the store opens early at 6 A.M. and closes late at midnight. The hours paired with the prices make this Walmart a great place to shop for both locals and tourists, especially tourists looking for the cheapest gifts to bring back home. There is Costco if you want to buy things in bulk, but there is Walmart for low prices if you want things in a more normal volume. Make sure to bring your own shopping bag, or you can purchase a reusable bag. read more

I generally don't write reviews about Walmart or other mass chained stores but this particular Walmart located in Lihue was wonderful. We must have been here at least 4 times during our week long trip to Kauai. First, it was for stuff like snacks to begin our trip. Second, it was for supplies for the beach and Waimea Canyon. Third, it was for supplies for snorkeling. And last, it was to buy gifts to bring home. This place has everything that Walmart carries and more. They have a large department where you can buy gifts that are about 30% cheaper than anywhere else on the island. Can't beat that! read more

I'm giving it 3 Stars based on service. The cashier was very friendly as well as another employee in the store. The reason they loose stars is because the employee at the door checking receipts was extremely rude. I did not realize I was walking in the exit side and she rudely told me to enter the other door. For some reason, people kept telling us to go to Costco, but we dont have a Costco card ;) We came here to stock up on supplies for the hotel room. Get your booze & touristy things here, because once you leave the nasty gates of Walmart, prices could get exponentially high for that precious bottle of sunscreen. They no longer offer plastic bags as an option on the island, so you will pay a .50 charge per reusable bag if you purchase their brand bags. My cheap ass stuffed our toiletries in my bag lol. A Walmart's a Walmart. If you've been to one anywhere else, you're not going to be surprised much by the layout or what they have, except.... If you're looking for Hawaiian souvenirs, you could do worse. Obviously Lihue has no shortage of places that sell souvenirs, but they have a decently-sized section of cheap souvenirs as well as a bunch of Hawaiian-themes clothing. If you're been to the Hilo Hattie's 200 yards from Walmart, you might notice that some of the items are the same, but much cheaper at Walmart. Don't expect the best quality stuff, but hey, it's Walmart. read more

You can always count on Walmart. The only issue that I noticed, since I am from the mainland, is you must purchase or have a reusable bag. They do not provide plastic bags for your purchases. Shelves bare on many items; cat food, school supplies, pens, etc. I don't know if they don't order enough to keep their supplies up, or if they just don't restock. I'm a visitor from Arizona. Politely asked a native gentleman who was stocking an aisle and was wearing a Walmart badge if he might know if they had pre-made sandwiches. He looked at me in disgust and said, "I don't work here. I'm so offended." He said it very monotone I thought he was kidding so I laughed it off and waited for an actual answer. He just stood there. The cost of living in Hawaii was a frequent topic of conversation. The cost of living in Kauai was a frequent conversation. If I lived on any island with a Walmart, I would probably ending sporting a tattoo with the Walmart happy face, given all the money it would save me. This Walmart from the start was awesome! Instead of ducking cars and shopping carts trying to hit me as I would in Vegas, I get to start of my shopping experience with chickens walking around the parking lot! SMILES!! Walking through the door, i casted my eyes around the store taking in the locals (in all manner of dress) and the savings. SMILES!! Needed an inexpensive pair of board shorts...Done! Needed some inexpensive snacks...Done! Needed some wine and Jameson...Done! The booze was by far cheaper than anywhere you can get on the island(s). Hell!...It was cheaper than Vegas! The Walmart checker was super friendly and even though she took some time have an aloha kind of conversation with us, the other shoppers did not seem to mind. Absolutely enjoyed the experience and if your looking to save a few bucks, make Walmart a part of the experience! read more
