Before my review of Walmart, indulge me (while I indulge myself), and let me get something off my chest--- is there anything about Yelp, where I've been a reader and/or reviewer for going on a pretty long time now, that angers or upsets me? The loss of Yelp Elite status? No. Actually, it's untruth in advertising. They feature the caption "Your trust is our top concern, so businesses can't pay to alter or remove their reviews." Well, I wrote a review some time ago about the Cedar Knolls Plaza Mall, formerly known as Morris County Mall, only to have it removed for reasons that I consider to be specious at best, out-and-out lying at worst. I reviewed the Mall itself, where I spent much of my teenaged years, in a bittersweet manner, sad to see it transformed into a nearly dead ghost-mall. Wrote it only to have it removed because Planet Fitness claimed I was reviewing their gym when I had never actually been a patron. I never mentioned Planet Fitness once and obviously someone connected to the place applied pressure to Yelp to remove my review, which they did. Someone named Mike wrote "I just saw the stupid review of the Planet Fitness by Edward T and Hank C ...Everyone I know is extremely excited that Planet Fitness is coming to Morristown. GREAT location and plenty of parking...I am not a snob so I love the selection at Walmart...You snobs should go back to the backwater of Bernardsville and stay out of Morristown." Actually I'm in B'Ridge and Hank is in Short Hills, but...ok. I wrote it off, and forgot about it, but...in looking back over the reviews recently, I'm sorta chagrined to realize that Hank C's review was left on Yelp but mine was removed! So much for "Your trust is our top concern." I guess Hank is not quite the snob Mike thought he was! Me? Ok, let me review a place at the Mall that I've patronized in real time, and it ain't Planet Fitness. Look, nobody would be happier than me to see the mall revitalized. I don't wish local businesses any ill will, not even Planet Fitness. I like to see a thriving economy and hopefully they pay their employees more than minimum wage. I've read that Michael's is considering coming to the mall, as well as a pickleball court (can I stop for a second to ask...when the hell did pickleball become a big thing?). Walmart? Following a period of unemployment some years ago (me? a snob? more like terrified wage slave...), I was able to secure a job in Florham Park. Not a great job, but a job. At that point, I had gotten over my distaste at shopping at Walmart out of necessity. I had patronized the one in Branchburg (until it went out of business; if Trump can go bankrupt in the casino business, I guess Walmart is capable of failing in what seems like a foolproof business too), and the one in Flemington, which still has the biggest selection of foodstuffs of any Walmart I've ever been in. On my way home from Florham Park, I'd sometimes make a detour here to pick up some necessary items, usually involving food. Not an extensive selection to choose from, but they had milk, bread, frozen dinners, soup, etc. The available check-outs were crowded, but at what Walmart aren't they? Parking was (and is) available, but the parking lot is crowded, and tight. I much preferred the spacious parking in Branchburg and Flemington. (I think the building where the Walmart is used to be a movie theatre; I remember seeing "Altered States" there, so my history with this location goes back a long time). My reactions as far as buying non-food items are mixed. At one point, I tried to buy a lamp, which they sold as separate from a lampshade. I asked one of the "clerks" for assistance. I think he was more confused than I was, and wandered away after muttering a few unintelligible words. I think asking one of the "extremely excited" patrons of nearby Planet Fitness would have been more productive. I ended up buying one of the lamps (and a shade), which crapped out in a few months. Caveat emptor. On the other hand, I bought the computer I'm writing this on at Walmart, and the process was relatively smooth, and the computer still works (Hewlett Packard). Maybe I just got lucky for a change, or maybe the salesclerks working that day recognized me as a snob from the backwater of Bernardsville and made an extra special effort for me. Or maybe... I no longer work in Florham Park, so I don't come here much anymore but when I last did (and when the "ghost-mall" state of the entire facility so depressed me that I felt compelled to write my subsequently removed review), the parking lot was full and the Walmart itself seemed in no danger of going out of business. I hope it continues to thrive, even though the Walton family, the richest in America, keeps its employees at the poverty level, and even below the poverty level. I hope more stores open in the mall. I hope Planet Fitness thrives and justifies the "extremely excited" hopes of Morristown residents in particular and NJ shoppers in general. read more

I walk in for a podcast mic and the whole store looks like an aftermath from Black Friday except it was mid April. I needed a new mic in an emergency for this live underground podcast about BDSM subcultures. (But that's another story.) So, I buy the only YETI microphone they had. The others looked like mics that I would find at a radio shack. (I'm not naming names). Anyway, I get home and there is NO a mic in the box. I think back and he box and a sensor on it. They took it in the back to take the sensor off. I rushed back to the store. Inside I am expecting to get pushback but they were cool about it. The handsome young man in returns was very pleasant. Other than that, the store feels like I am in a war zone and I am looking for communication device because we have to survive he apocalypse. If that's your thing, have fun. Tonight, my cashier, Michael, was very friendly and very professional to me. I think Michael has the professional and customer service skills to make any customer of "any walk of life" feel at home with him. When I personally gave Michael, this compliment verbally to him, he said, that is what he wishes to have every customer, he assists, to feel that way. He said, he wants all customers treated well and feel at home. One week ago, I also met a very kind Manager who helped me at the customer service counter when I was returning head phones. Why? The front doors don't work. Always too much inventory in the aisles. Not enough inventory on the shelves. Self checkout area is a train wreck! Too small of an area...not thought through. Receipt checking at the door is stooooopid!!! What does that do exactly? This Walmart is about 1/2 the size of normal Walmarts. It's like a big Dollar store. Nobody speaks English. The manager jan 8th 2025 at noon could not even give the correct discounts. Employees play music in stores. They follow u to see if you are stealing. Management needs to train these employees and hire English speaking people because I saw several people asking for help and nobody was getting any. I ordered via their website this morning for curbside pickup. I received an email shortly thereafter letting me know my order was ready. It said to park in one of the designated spots, call the number on the sign, and someone would bring my order out and put it either in my trunk or on my back seat. I arrived, parked in one of the spots, and called the number. No answer. It went to voicemail, but the recording said that voicemail was not yet set up on the phone. I called again...and again...and again...same thing. Then I called the main number, waited to hear the pickup option, and pressed that number. It rang, and rang, and rang. I finally had to go into the store to the pickup area, and find out why no one answered. I found my way there, and someone asked if she could help me, so I explained I have been calling with no response. She asked for my name, and with absolutely no apology, she told someone to get my order. He comes out carrying the 40 pound bag of birdseed, tries to hand it to me, and then asks me if I need a cart. What the......???? I told him I needed someone to bring it to my car, which is WHY I specifically ordered for curbside pickup!!!!! So he found a cart and I just dealt with getting it into the car myself. (There was actually a very nice customer who offered to put it in the car for me, so that was much appreciated.) WalMart has a pretty bad reputation, and now they confirmed why. In the future, I'll spend a little more at a store that provides what they advertise. If you don't have competent employees, don't offer actual service. Never again, WalMart. read more

This may not be the brightest star in the Walmart constellation but it sure is convenient for us Motown peeps. If you actually find what you need the price is extremely difficult to beat. Although a small-format store it stocks clothes, groceries, hardware, electronics, car maintenance stuff, pet food and much more. But I am often frustrated that they have run out of the item I need, like for example 5W-30 oil. And lately, flour and cleaning supplies. The customer service is hit and miss, and asking an employee for help is about the same. Still I'm here often. They deserve kudos for handling this damn virus crisis quite well, they're still keeping fairly long hours, all of the grocery aisles are one way, and there are blue spots on the floor everywhere reminding you about the 6 foot distance rule. read more

Cedar Knolls Walmart is terrible. They are always out of merchandise, their prices are too high for junk!! And the store is dirty, AND the women's bathroom is FILTHY. We are so happy we moved into this community where everything is accessible and close to our home. This is your typical Walmart - staff is visible and present, Aisles and shelves are stocked with tons of options, and each section of the store is clearly labeled. Things are often a bit in disarray, but I attribute that more to the customers being lazy and tossing stuff around than to the cleanliness or attention of the staff. The food section is adequately stocked, but know that things could be missing if you plan to actually do your grocery shopping here. Our kid loves to run through the toy aisles - they have a good selection, but not as robust as other large chain stores. read more

Generally has what I need but literally always packed. The parking lot is always full and the line always takes forever to check out. I live so close that I stop by often. They have some great sale and clearance in the back of the store and have most thing. Do not have produce really and are oddly usually out of chocolate chips. The associates at this store are the leadt friendy of almost anywhere I've ever shopped. Whoever is managing their talent needs to be replaced. They are fortunate that no Target store is nearby or they would completely go under. You can tell none of the employees are happy. While this location doesn't offer grocery products found in Wal*Mart Supercenters, the Wal*Mart in Cedar Knolls on Ridgedale Avenue is a hidden jewel offering all types of household necessities. They're open late (8a to 10p - 7 days a week) and conveniently located between the exits on I-287 in Parsippany and Morristown. I stop in at least once a week on my way home from work for various things I need around the house -- cereal, paper towels, microwavable pork rinds, NASCAR t-shirts, etc. Regardless of what you may think about the economic and social evils associated with big box stores in small communities - the staff here is friendly, the store is clean and well-stocked with a wide variety of household necessities ranging from sundries to cleaning supplies and hardware, and the prices are terrific. read more

Perhaps the best benefit from this store is Walmart prices which are competitive and why I still go here. So often, they are completely out of stock of milk. How does that happen so often? And sometimes the grocery shelves are very empty, almost like they went out of business, but then they restock a few days later. Today, I tried to tell the guy checking receipts that the chocolate milk was past the expiration date, but he refused to speak with me and just pointed at the customer service counter. I was on my way out and just trying to do them a favor but he wouldn't even talk to me. Normally the guy who's there is fine, but I didn't recognize this guy and he really didn't seem to want to be there and definitely did not want to talk to me. Maybe he has trouble with English, but then how can he be checking receipts? While my things are being scanned I asked two times how much it was Because I didn't want to spend more than i planned because I'm sending money to a family member, I put my card in and I did not go through, The lady looked at me smiled and told me I was broke and to check my card balance... I looked again on my account and I had 9000 in one and 300$ in another and the things I brought were 177$ and while I tried to show her she looked away and said it's not my business and said go check my balance laughing at me again... The guys working The other register came out of nowhere and cleared my transactions which was unnecessary because instead of helping and wanted me to just leave , I said to the girl Can we bring these to customer service she said (what did I do) and I said has nothing to do with you my card is not going through on here, she ripped the bags from hands and brought it over, And GUESS WHAT!!!! Have to downgrade to 1 star. Was in here on February 5th to pick up a few things. The store was disgusting. There were so many empty freezers and refrigerators and a very poor selection of merchandise in general. There were some of the trashiest people I've ever seen in my life shopping here and this keeping in mind that I'm at Walmart. The best thing I saw was an employee in the woman's clothing section having a sneezing fit - and when I say fit it was a spectacle. This is fine is your have basics and essentials you need to gather. For Covid, masks are required to enter and they have a good supplies of affordable masks, gloves, antibacterial alcohol, and hand sanitizers, but you should come early hours in the mid-week to have a chance of getting your hand on them. If you come later in the week or on the weekend, then supplies are slim pickings! read more

During the return to the Big Apple of a one day trip to Morristown, NJ, my former love and I stopped by Wal-Mart near Morris County Mall. We were able to pick up a sink stopper of the right size for the bath tub, which other Wal-Marts were sold out. Customer service is somewhat efficient and user friendly, but not always visible or available. The aisles to this location are very orderly neat and spacious to maneuver and well stocked. Too bad there is no supermarket for groceries at this Wal-Mart. I wish there were Super Wal-Marts in the Metro NYC area. read more

I have been a loyal Walmart customer for over 30 years and have even traveled to Walmart HQ in AR. I have shopped Walmart Stores in NC, FL, upstate NY, PA, KS, MO, OR, and CA. This store since it has open has had difficulties staffing competent managers and employees. Like most companies there is always a diamond in the ruff but they cannot carry the store. This store has an issue with theft, keeping the shelves stock with simple things like; razor blades, half and half, Poland Springs water and so on. On one occasion they had fumigated the isle that had Oreo cookies. The overwhelming smell of pesticide was nauseating and they did nothing for 3 weeks after I complained about it. Ugh! Now the reason for this posting. I purchased 1 bottle of multiple vitamins that had a temper proof lid intact. When I got home to open the bottle, someone had taken a razor blade and cut around the plastic seal and the bottle's foil seal had been perforated and 75% of the pills were gone. I tried to return for an exchange and without a receipt the clerk said, no. So, this is on me for not keeping the receipt but is also on Walmart for either taking this bottle back on a return or not watching their security cameras close enough to see what is going on. Do to the lack of security, I no longer feel safe in this store and will not return and until they have an armed guard at the front door. read more

Get ready to walk into this place and be frustrated. I placed an online order of a 16 x 20 picture canvas. After maybe about 3 hours I called the store and spoke to an employee at the Photo Department, she told me that for sure the order was going to be ready today, all I have to do was wait for a "ready-for-pick-up email/text". About 4 hours later, I receive the email saying my order was complete and ready for pickup. I drove 45 mins to get there, and when I did my order was half done. The employee that was there had no clue of the order I placed and didn't understand why I had received the confirmation email when the order was not ready. My picture was printed but not mounted on to the canvas. I had a huge picture printed out flat, with no canvas, as I had ordered and paid for.No one called me to notify me something was wrong with my order. No one told me the picture was not assembled as a canvas but yet I received a confirmation saying my order was ready for pick up. After 1 hour of going back and forth with the staff, I finally told the lady I wanted my refund. She gave me a slip and told me to go to the customer service and get my refund. So I walked over there and the manager by name of KAPUL came and just simply said there was nothing she could do. I tried to talk to her and explain what happened and she completely cut me off and said there was nothing she could do. Very rude, unprofessional and impatient. The nice employee at customer service found a way to get me my refund and I finally walked out about 2 hours After. Horrible experience, will not be back again.
