I've never seen so many 1 star feedbacks in my life and I saw the reviews after I placed an order with CarelonRx. My mom's health plan (Anthem) doesn't cover medications at retail pharmacy, even the ones that are in network. So to make a long story short. I ordered a super expensive medication for a minimum co-payment. Was shipped the next day. Showed tracking accurately. It said delivery on August 4th and arrived 3 days earlier. I have in the process of a absolutely horrible experience trying to get prior authorization from CarelonRX for a medication that I have been on for a while now, and has been extremely effective for me. My doctors office has submitted required information a few times now that shows that I meet their clinical requirements for the medication. The prior authorization staff, process, and/or system seems to keep on screwing up and cannot find the information submitted, and they reject the request. I have been on the phone with CarelonRX and my doctors office at the same time, and CarelonRX still cannot get it done. Both me and my doctors office have spent hours on this, on such a simple thing, which is insane. I am beyond frustrated, and am now already late on my medication. read more

Carelon sucks! I tried to find out why my refill wasn't refilled? I got their AI assistant. She was pleasant but couldn't understand my date of birth. I repeated 3 times & she couldn't understand my frustration even though I enunciated it very clearly. This is Maintenance medication I need to take for medical conditions I developed with time. I used to have Express Scripts when I was working. I thought they were pretty bad even though I was enrolled in worry free refills.Same problems. Atleast a real person answered the phone at Express Scripts. Carelon hides behind a computer. There isn't anyone I can talk to. I had to have my wife call on my behalf. My wife said if it was a person on the other end of the phone was a human they'd understand me? Not a computer. I pay for this plan through the ACA which costs me a $1000 a month. Worthless company. Was waiting for a package to arrive that they said they mailed out on June 5th. The USPS tracking # still shows that the USPS doesn't even have the package -- 10 days later. I literally ran out of the meds waiting for them and had to pay out of pocket to get the meds locally since Carelon already locked up the insurance payment for it. I chatted with someone using the online chat options and all they would do was keep cutting and pasting the same messages. No help with the actual problem. I then spoke with an agent earlier today and they're going to put me into the 're-ship' workflow. Guess what... it takes at least 3-5 days before the 'review board' will actually let the re-ship happen. That's on top of them already being a week late on delivering them initially. By the time they actually get through the review board and reship the meds and the time in transit, I will probably be a month behind on the meds. BTW -- I actually requested the filling of the prescription on 5/19 so they had PLENTY of time to get this filled and delivered. How can something this simple be this much hassle? These are prescriptions that people depend on for their health and wellbeing and Carelon can't be bothered. read more

I have been using Carelon Specialty Pharmacy for over a year for a medication I need to use every two weeks, and I want to share my experience to hopefully help others: I was prescribed a medication and was initially told there would be a change in my out-of-pocket cost due to copay assistance adjustments. I requested that the medication not be shipped until I could confirm the updated cost and ensure I could afford it. Despite that, the medication was shipped, and I was later billed approximately $1000. When I contacted both the specialty pharmacy and my insurance company, I was repeatedly transferred between Carelon and Anthem, with each side directing me back to the other, and there was no clear ownership of the issue. (I called to understand why I was shipped the medication even though I did not confirm the new cost. The result was being transferred literally 8 times over the span of an hour, only to be told I am at fault and that there is nothing they can do for me. It wasn't until I started bawling on the phone that the woman I spoke to did more digging to see what she could do. I eventually had an investigation opened, which came back with a letter that, in summary, said sorry for the inconvenience, but you are at fault, and there's nothing we can do.) Going back to actually getting my prescription, after significant effort and involvement from my physician, a coverage or processing issue was later resolved, and my subsequent refills of the same medication were processed at $0 out-of-pocket cost. However, the earlier charge was not reversed. The most frustrating part was the lack of clear communication and coordination between the pharmacy and the insurer, especially regarding patient financial responsibility before shipment. Patients should be given clear, confirmed out-of-pocket costs before specialty medications are shipped, not after. My advice if Carelon is unfortunately your only option: - Always request written confirmation of your final out-of-pocket cost before approving shipment of specialty medications - Explicitly ask the pharmacy to place a hard hold on the shipment until financial authorization is confirmed - Document every call (date, time, name, and reference number) - Do not rely on verbal confirmation of copay assistance coverage read more

I would give it negative stars if possible. They are hard to get any prescriptions from. They have crap customer service. They put up road blocks to prevent actually prescribing anything. I can understand not covering a medication, but if it is covered and my doctor prescribed it to me, and they gave you the prescription then I should get the medicine. The I'm going to see if I can follow this up with my state's health department. They only thing the people in charge care about is money. If more people complain to their states health departments in the states they do business, in paying for all those investigations maybe they will fix it. read more

MISERABLE EXPERIENCE. My doctor tried to fax a prescription to CarelonRX. The fax number they list on the website and mobile app is NOT a fax machine. Faxes sent to this number do not go through. We eventually obtained the correct fax number (after an incredible amount of time on the phone). I contacted Anthem/CarelonRX multiple times over the past month with a request to correct the website because I don't want this to happen to other people. Nothing happens! It takes forever to navigate through their interactive voice response system. When you finally get to a real human being, they are uncaring and unhelpful. They exhausted and over charged my cost savings card and then would not send my medication until I paid them $2290 out of pocket. This has been the worst. I will be reaching out to my HR team and Anthem and see if I can get a different provider for my medication. I have been on specialty medication for 6 years and this one has been absolutely terrible. I live in the United States, and Anthem Blue Cross uses CarelonRx as its mail-order pharmacy. Unfortunately, I have never had a positive experience when contacting CarelonRx. When calling by landline, a representative--often located overseas--answers, collects personal information (name, date of birth, etc.), and then transfers the call. This transfer typically takes anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes before another person answers. At that point, the representative is usually based in the U.S. and working remotely. On several occasions, there has been noticeable background noise, such as household activity, or the representative speaks from a distance, which affects call quality. Recently, CarelonRx transitioned to a text messaging system. I requested that they contact my doctor's office to arrange a prescription refill, which is a standard service most pharmacies provide. After 35 minutes of texting with two different representatives--and providing my personal information twice--I was told I needed to be transferred via text again to a pharmacist. A customer should not have to spend 35 minutes to an hour on a simple request. Additionally, CarelonRx requires more than one refill remaining before allowing enrollment in auto-refill. This policy is inconvenient, particularly when prescriptions are written for 90 days and patients see their doctors every six months, typically resulting in only one refill. While my doctor has been willing to accommodate this requirement, the policy is not practical and has caused issues in the past. Finally, I have automatic billing set up on my credit card for every order. Despite this, I receive a bill with each shipment indicating an amount due. When I check my account, the charge has already been processed. This is confusing and unnecessary; the documentation should clearly indicate that the balance has been paid. I have attempted to resolve these issues by phone but have since given up due to the inefficiency of the process. It is unfortunate that Anthem continues to use CarelonRx when there are more reliable and customer-friendly pharmacy options available. read more

There is also not enough space here for me to rant about this mail order service that Anthem has partnered with, but I refuse to use them anymore. I figure that my husband and I have spent DAYS on the phone with Carelon over the last 2 years, with a multitude of issues. We have literally paid for their screw-ups because if your doctor sends in a script, they will fill it and when they send something to you, even by accident, you will pay. And then they will re-fill it, and you - pay. When you try to get help, you will discover that the incompetence (and sometimes outright rudeness) of their customer service is astounding. Back in April 2025, we told a representative at Carelon to not only Cancel a prescription, but that we didn't want to receive ANY more prescriptions from them. Then today, we just got a refill that we didn't request, along with a bill. We just got off the phone about it and were told that CANCELLING a prescription is different than DEACTIVATING it and that we received this refill because we hadn't used the correct term back in April. (What part of "we don't want Any prescription meds from Carelon" did the representative not get?) Believe me, and to be very clear, we have now "deactivated" everything we possibly could! However, as one reviewer stated I have had the toughest time getting medication ordered through Carelon RX home pharmacy. My health care provider has submitted the prior authorization which should last up to one year. Every time I submit for a refill Carelon Rx claims to have to contact my doctor for prior authorization. We should have a choice for the home delivery provider we want to use. Unfortunately I cannot select to use my previous provider. In the last 20 years I did not have to play the middle man between my home delivery pharmacy and my doctor until I had to change medical insurance providers due to a job change. They claim to care but it seems to be all about $$$. Horrible experience. Have been paying my provider's invoices for the past 4 years. The invoices were mailed to them. The last invoice was mailed 3 times (each time they claimed they did not receive it), the last one was mailed certified mail. At first their rep said they did not receive it. Anthem has essentially forced me to use Carelon, unless I want to pay an extra $100 a month to use my local pharmacy. My doctor cannot approve my prescription because they are not receiving any requests. Carelon will never make a phone call to the doctor, per their representative, they only use fax. Carelon stated it is my problem to deal with. I will be without my prescription now for an unknown amount of time, as it still has not been filled 6 business days after I spent 3+ hours on the phone. Walgreens would have handled this within 1 business day, without assistance from me. I will absolutely be changing my insurance to anybody besides Anthem, as soon as possible. The representatives I spoke with had no answer as to why this happened. Unfortunately, this is the only mail-order pharmacy my Anthem insurance accepts, so my doctor resent my prescription to Carelon on 6/26/25. The prescription was JUST received by USPS today, 7/1/25, so I called the company for a tracking update. The estimated delivery date is 7/7/25. If you have the luxury of waiting nearly 3 WEEKS to start a medication, then this pharmacy might work for you. If not, go elsewhere. read more

Husband's company started using CarelonRx in 2025. I switched doctors towards the end of 2025. New prescriptions were sent to Caroline, tier one medications were received shortly thereafter. No bill included. Three months later I received a statement with no dollar amount on it. "Just use the QR code or login." CarelonRx did not recognize the QR code, my member ID number, the invoice number nor the refill number. I called in to settle this matter. Folks there just kept wanting me to log on. As I placed my refill order with exception for nonpayment, I found that each of these medication's were $25 each. I abandoned that process asked for a paper bill because I can use GoodRx and get it for pennies. read more
