Walmart is rarely my go-to store. Typically I only visit if there's something I want that I can't find elsewhere. This store may change my opinion - occasionally. I wasn't aware of how large a store it is. I was also pleasantly surprised at how clean the store was and how well the inventory was organized, including the grocery selections downstairs. Prices are what you'd expect... some will be good deals, some will be loss-leaders, others won't be as competitive. The customer service center was a different story, with an extremely long line. Then there was that "Switch to Spectrum!" gal who wouldn't take "No" for an answer (well, sorry, she had to with me). Could this be your one-stop shopping place? Certainly. Will it be mine? I was just openly discriminated against in this store.. The brown cashier acted like she didnt want to scan my groceries.. Then, as I was attempting to leave the store, 3 little black boys blocked me from leaving.. The one that was morbidly obese seemed very aggressive.. They demanded to see my receipt.. I love a good Walmart run! But this one... wow. Super underwhelming. It's chaotic meets anxiety. You need to know what you're looking for and where to find it. Things are messy. Not organized at all. Wide selection, lots of variety from home goods to fresh fruits. So, Either they ran out of space to actually organize for marketing OR their workers DGAS. Boxes were half opened. Items were not where they are supposed to be. However you'll get your basics fulfilled. Good value with on sale items. We got the essentials for my son's apt. I have been a home delivery member for more than 3 years... the service has gone from fabulous to good to poor to terrible in that time... orders used to be guaranteed within one hour ... then it became two hour windows ... I was supposed to receive an order between 3 and 5 pm today ... ordered yesterday,.. then the time was arbitrarily changed by Walmart to between 4:15 pm and 6:15 pm with no respect for my time or schedule ... pathetic customer service! Further when I called customer service the call was routed overseas ... I had a hard time understanding the representative.., I then asked for a supervisor and that experience was worse! My experience with this business was absolutely with looks despite the woman yelling across the store at her child and the floors of this establishment they were clean and appeared well maintained i just think a change in color would be beneficial. How does Walmart not have functioning card readers for self checkout? I keep forgetting and going back and wasting my precious time collecting items only to find out that it is impossible to purchase them because the store's card readers are broken and they refuse to replace or fix them. This, Walmart is one of the most unorganized well staffed but none of the staff members will help you everybody says it's shift change they have things locked up with nobody there to unlock the shelves or help you get them out. I asked two team leaders and two managers they said it was shift change. There's nothing that they can do. I would have to find someone else. read more

This is probably the worst WalMart in the area to do clothes shopping at. The shelves are a horrible, disorganized mess. I went in to buy two pairs of jeans and two sets of long johns leggings. I am used to having to look for jeans on the shelf, but THIS was a special trip. They were not organized onto the shelves at all, just put in empty locations, not even grouped by size. The pants would have been just as well organized strewn about the floor. Long Johns leggings were an exercise in frustration. I eventually found what I needed......in the wrong isle, under the wrong brand section, and wrong product type(it was in the spot for shirts). Literally the only thing that lined up with the tag on the shelf was "XL." Tag wise, the tag in the one section read 10 dollars, the tag they were sitting over read 22 dollars and they rang in at 16 dollars, splitting the difference. While looking, one of the stocking staff pushed merchandising cart BETWEEN me and the shelves I was looking at and proceeded to LEAVE IT THERE!!!! Also, if stores are going to keep things locked up, HIRE PEOPLE THAT SPEAK ENGLISH TO UNLOCK THE MERCHANDISE. NEWS FLASH!!!!: "No english" does not unlock the long johns cabinet. It is also not on the customer to jump through hoops to deal with incompitant and useless staff. The customer in line in front of me(an African American woman) was ALSO registering complaints with the cashier about the unhelpful staff who would only respond "no english" when she tried to get help with a CHRISTMAS TREE! In short, If WalMart really wants to improve, they should hand out Christmas Pink Slips to the ENTIRE STOCKING CREW AND MERCHANDISING DEPARTMENTS as well as review the actual usefulness of whoever is doing the hiring for this location. read more

I stopped in here to grab a few things while I was in town. The proximity of this store to SUNY Albany is quite convenient. Crossgates Mall is also a quick drive from here, it's less than a mile. I believe this is the biggest Super Walmart store in the USA. This Walmart used to be one floor, they expanded into the "basement" space where the Sam's Club (or some other retail) used to be. Even when I lived in the Capital District, I only frequented this store every other month or so on a hurried lunch break. Honestly, the size overwhelms me a bit here. There are two levels to this store, which I find to be a pain in the butt. I'm sure you get used to what is where when you shop here on a more regular basis. The upstairs is clothing, electronics and more. I parked here by mistake, but I took the escalator down to get what I needed. The downstairs is food, toiletries, makeup and more. I only needed a few things, so I threw them in a hand basket and checked out upstairs. The lines were not too bad upstairs, but I suspect the grocery area downstairs could be worse. I'll go with 4 stars overall. I feel like this store is decently kept up for a Walmart. This is handy one stop shopping. read more

I am a person who really enjoys going to Walmart to walk around for an hour, and get some very well priced things I don't need. Other Walmarts do not even compare to this one for size, range of goods, variety, etc. This is in fact, the largest Walmart in the USA, and it just so happens to be the closest one to my house. The Walmart near my job is always disappointing in comparison. I can pick up a new shirt, socks, Christmas decorations, light bulbs, dog toys, toiletries, a birthday card, and groceries; all in one stop, in one hour. Now that is efficient, and I am a fan. The groceries are very well priced, besides the meat. I find the meat to be pricier than my normal market, but the aisle items are much cheaper than anywhere else. It's a great place to pick up snacks. Of course the cashier lines always suck at Walmart, but, they have self check out, which I am also a huge fan of. It helps me get in and out of the store. This Walmart is easy to access form multiple directions, has ample parking, and two floors of well priced items. It's a win for me. read more

This is the biggest Walmart in the whole USA. Two floors of stuff to shop and find. Lower Level is where you find all the groceries and paper supplies. They even got a Pet Section with fish tank. Main Level are the clothing items and all the stuff you find in the electronic store. Huge selection with great prices. Outside in the parking lot there is fuel station for your electric cars. Tons of parking spots. Staff friendly and helpful. Will be back again. read more

I must say this review is based on the facility and parking. I didn't have to deal with any customer service at this Walmart. My family and I stopped by because we were staying at the hotel across the highway and wanted to make some quick snack purchase so decided stop by. First, when we pulled up to the parking lot, we noticed there weren't many cars parked like in NJ. This just proves that there's too many people living in Jersey. Anyhoo, parking was simple and furthermore, inside Walmart, there weren't many customers. On the first floor, there are clothes, makeup, kitchenware, home decor items, beddings, toys, tires, toiletries. You will need to take the elevator or escalator downstairs for fresh produce and other grocery shopping, and their pharmacy. There is a Dunkin' Donuts too. It's my first time ever seeing two floors inside of Walmart. I'm still in awe with the escalator for the shopping cart only. It was cool to see how people would push their cart on the belt and then take the escalator next to it. Overall, this Super Walmart is huge and updated. It's cool how the location has two floors. If you parked on ground level, you can enter right into the ground floor. If you park as soon as arrive to the location, you're on the first floor. read more

I have been going to this particular Walmart for over three years. I've had no complaints during Covid because of the situation. However, the store is now worse than ever. The employees are rude and disrespectful. The paid shoppers run around like they own the place. Cutting of shoppers, blocking isles, and bumping into your cart. Just stopped in the Walmart in Albany, NY. It's terrible. Went to the deli and wanted my products cut thin. The rude "lucky she had a job" worker, told me to get something from the precut rack and walked away. Really? I wasn't really in the mood for her attitude, so i decided to act like the scum bag that was supposed to be helping me. Not proud of my behavior, but she got the message. Shouldn't have to be prepared for a physical altercation, just to get my goods that I pay for. The manager should be fired! read more

Visiting on the way to Boston from the Buffalo area... needed baby wipes, drove about 5 miles from the hotel at 9:30 on a Friday to discover the doors locked, staff barricading the doors and only unlocking to allow people to leave, (when they're allegedly open until 11) and had to go to a 7-11 for wipes, and pay probably 4x what they were worth. Thanks "biggest Walmart in the nation"!! I hate Walmart. This just reinforces why. read more

The Capital Region grocery scene has changed dramatically from 2008 (which is when I wrote my earlier review for Walmart). Do you know what else has changed since then? Me. A lot. How did anyone take me seriously as a food writer or commentator on the local food scene when I publicly declared my use of organic soy milk?!?! Thankfully, I've seen the error of my ways and have since gone back to full fat dairy. Regardless, I still find myself shopping at Walmart for their everyday low prices, and to vote with my wallet to encourage mass market adoption of organic foods. This is where I buy the vast majority of the family's breakfast cereal and granola bars. Nature's Path has eclipsed Cascadian Farm or Kashi as the brand of choice in our household. And Walmart always has the best everyday price on these staples. It's also where I buy my favorite Heidelberg bread, and where i begrudgingly buy the squishy bread my children require for peanut butter sandwiches. But now with Trader Joe's on the scene, I find that I'm shopping here less and less. And I'm finding that some of Trader Joe's products are better and cheaper than what I was able to find at Walmart. So, I'm knocking it down a star. Walmart remains a great place for national brands of household products. I can't justify paying the premiums for the exact same stuff from local markets. And I do love knowing I can rely on the mass retailer's aggressive pricing strategies generally working out in my favor. read more

I am not a fan of Walmart, but this is one of the nicest Walmart stores I have been in. It has ample parking, the store is huge, and lots of products (groceries, plants, etc). You can park on either side of the store, and this is a 2-level Walmart, so I often park at the lower level if I know I don't need to go upstairs (or vice versa). With 2 kids, there are times I can't really avoid shopping at Walmart, for example, school supplies. I love being able to shop for everything on my list at one place. There is actually a pretty good grocery selection here. I can get organic fruits and veggies. There are a bunch of things I like to get here, sometimes I can't find elsewhere - kombucha, frozen vegetarian foods (like mock meats), ethnic foods (Ecuadorian cheese), decent bakery rolls, etc. Sometimes they have new food products before other stores have them, or more flavors than my regular grocery store. This store is always decently clean, at least compared to other Walmart stores. Things do get picked over - like school supplies get rummaged through or seasonal displays. The store is big enough so that there is enough room to get around the store without it being annoying. There is a giant escalator in the middle of the store that you can put your shopping cart on. I have noticed the escalator or elevators break down frequently, but fortunately has never been both at the same time when I'm there. There are also other services - bank, Dunkin Donuts, Vision Care Center, hair salon, hearing aid center, etc. Probably my biggest gripe is not having enough registers open when it is really busy, but I avoid those times now anyway. read more

Washington Ave Extension store in Albany, NY should be shut down! No one monitoring # of people in store. No employees spraying down carts. No hand sanitizing stations ANYWHERE!! One bottle of sanitizer for carts with a roll of towels on top of an overflowing garbage can was left for shoppers to do their OWN carts!! Clusters of people around said garbage can waiting for the one bottle that had been touched by thousands of people! My local Walmart rarely has more than 1 or 2 registers open. Customers must therefore use self checkout. This is unacceptable. I am not a cashier, nor am I paid as one. And as I don't bag very well, I always prefer that the cashier bags my items. If Walmart does not bring back more open checkout registers, I will no longer shop there. read more

I had a terrible experience with a cashier named "Patrick" yesterday. He was really rude. I asked him to check the price of an item and he asked me, "Why do you need to check the price?" Any other retail store would have been happy to check the price of my item without question. I quickly paid and left the guy. As I was about to leave, I heard him say, "They're dumb. They didn't pick up their bags." I was trying to get away from Patrick and have my kids pick up the bags. Attached are photos of Patrick. He is training a new cashier seen to the right of him. I don't know what happened to the review I posted in 2018 of this place, but when I came in yesterday (after several Lyft trips with one of my trips ending here), I went looking for several items - one of which was a certain Mad Libs book (which I couldn't find) - and a single bottle of Poland Spring spring water (I found a brand that only Stewarts Shops sells up near the self-checkouts on the upper level, but never thought about checking for it downstairs with my car on the upper level.) I found the down escalator to not work, and while it not working was slowing others down ahead of me (a person who seemed to be having trouble walking the stairs ahead of me), I liked that I found the escalators going up to be working much later. But in this trip, I also found several elevators in an elevator bank also nearby the escalator if you walk a little further and are able to wait for only one cart in the elevator at the time (not as funny as watching the cart come down as you, but it's worthwhile if necessary. It's like a maze in here. Signs galore leading every which way; you just about need a map to get from one end to the other - something I couldn't say about most other Walmarts I've been to nationwide (including one I stopped into in Florida many years ago in Kissimmee) One good thing comes with this place: it's the only one of its kind within the United States. I still can't say that very many folks are actually serious about following the one-way aisle rules, but I at least made the attempt (not being a common shopper at this store) to follow the rules. (When I got back home later, the one thing I missed I should have looked for here, and something I'll later feel sorry about not making the attempt to look for. (weeps)) One of the things I said in my last review was that parking was overly zealous. But not this time. Most spots were full, but I was able to park down an aisle straight out from the door on the upper level (there's a manmade legal hill that leads to the lower level parking lot) - although it was like a maze to get back out onto Washington Ave later from the Upper level. I do remember in the lost review of how I mentioned the small family restroom near customer service on the upper level. I did like that - if only it was stocked with paper towels, and without a blow dryer, it's desperately needed. There was no one to speak to about this need on this newest trip, and I was able to grab a toilet seat cover instead (although this idea was just as bad as not having a paper towel anyway)), but there were other restrooms I found on this trip I would never have expected. read more

iEverytime I come to this Walmart I always have an issue with the 2 young Spanish guys. where they be refusing to put my orders in the car just because I'm working for uber eats. And then when I told him it's there job to put it in the car for us he says to me if I don't get out the car that he is going to cancel my order and he did. I feel like this place has discrimination against the people that works for Uber eats. They do not treat us fairl. When the other people have my order I never have a problem they put the orders in witout a problem it's jut be those to young Spanish guys that refuse to put the atomic in the car and it only be 5 bags or less. I told them I'm not only an Uber eats worker but I'm also an customer and without us customers and Uber workers you would not have a job because we are the reason why your getting paid. I will be contacting corporate tuesday cause I should not be treated like this everytime I come here. They act ast if they are Prejudice. I sat in my car and watched them put the next customer orders in their car and the customer did not get out the car and help. Wal-Mart, I HATE to love you. Like Daniel B. mentions, it's only fair to take off a star (or two) for Wal-Mart's corporate evilness. Actually, this corporate evilness deserves to have even more stars docked. But the thing is, no matter how much I dislike their business practices, and how corporations like them have created the economic downturn we face today, you can't fight with their prices, and their surprising quality. Groceries here are cheap. And their house-brand stuff is actually pretty good. This past week, I've been very much impressed with the quality of their produce, in addition to the wide variety of their home goods. Since I got to Albany last Friday, I've been to this location almost once every day. Sometimes more. I have singlehandedly furnished my apartment with affordable goods online, using site-to-store (they hold items for 21 days, so when you're making an awesome cross-country move, you can make sure your shiz will be there when you are). If you properly assemble the furniture, it not only looks nice, but is at comparable quality to Ikea (not awesome, but generally not shit, either). At this location I've picked up: + Groceries (produce, dairy, meats, frozen, etc.) + Furniture (site-to-store desk, chest of drawers, end tables, kitchen island, bed stand, chairs) + Lamps + Small storage boxes + A stick vacuum + Bathroom shiz (suction bath mat, shower liner, curtain hooks, shower organizer, washrags) + Grippy drawer liner + Toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, loofah!, body wash, etc.) + Tap lights + Hangers + Phone + Swiffer Sweeper & other cleaning shiz ...among, I'm sure, lots of other stuff. While they have a snazzy cart escalator that both scares and awes me--in addition to yet another Dunkin Donuts--the checkers don't know crap about bagging stuff. NONE OF THEM. Every time I've been, and now it's several times over, the checker seriously uses a bag per item. What a waste! Moreover, many times I've had the audacity to bring my own reusable bags. I hand it to them, and they look at them like they have no idea what to do with it. Like I'm nuts or something. When I tell them to pack it full (these bags hold a lot, and won't break), they still can't go over halfway. So here's my verdict...prices and quality of items make this store a solid "5" in my book. It's like WinCo with a home section. Great! Evil corporation deserves negative stars, but we'll just say "1" because we're not allowed to go any further down on Yelp. Service? Meh. Maybe a "3." For all the evil and bad that Wal-Mart stands for, this particular location stands out as a shiny beacon in a quagmire of devalued Americana. I gawked in disbelief as I drove up to this location the first time (coming home from a Wedding venue hunting trip) and marveled at the size and glory. A tear escaped my eye as I put my hand over my heart. A bald eagle flew by. Why is this Wal-Mart so awesome? It has not one but TWO STORIES OF CRAP THAT BREAKS THE DAY YOU BUY IT. Home stuff, camping, automotive, and clothes upstairs. Food downstairs. We hadn't planned on buying everything we needed that day, but we sure did! We even bought more frozen goods so we could huddle them together in the trunk to keep each other cold on the three hour drive back to NYC. The store was one of the cleanest Wal-Marts I've ever seen. The floors shined with hope and promise, the same hope and promise that shines in the eyes of the illegal residents many Wal-Marts hire. The aisles were wide and spacious, like the freshly deforested wetlands demolished to build new Wal-Mart stores. Even on a Saturday afternoon, it seemed like the store was ours. Another joy of going to this, or any Wal-Mart, is the people. Someone should buy "peopleoftwostorywalmarts.com" just to pay homage to the clientele walking around. My favorite conversation I overheard was a rather large woman talking to another rather large woman about birth control. "...and I TOLD him that I was pregnant again and he was like no way that's impossible and I just knew it." "Uh huuh." "Now I've got an IUD and if I get pregnant, I'm suing Dr. Smith the gynecologist who put me on this and the Ortho McNeil the manufacturer and everyone!" "Uh huuh, that's right." We were able to find some specialty goods here. I picked up Vital Wheat Gluten (to make Seitan), vegetable stock for $2 a carton, and some frozen vegetarian items. Wal-Mart brand canned goods are of good quality and about $.65 a can. All the prices rung up exactly right. After coming in contact with a few particularly shady Wal-Marts right next to the city where I actually have to sit and watch as each item rung up (disparities in their favor of $.50 and $.75 on every other item, and oooh the clerks and people in line behind me get mad) it was refreshing to have everything ring up exactly as they were labeled. All in all, this was one of the most joyous Wal-Mart experiences I've ever had. My consumer confidence is high that Sam Walton would have been proud of this store. read more

Well, if you're a Walmart aficionado, then you need to make a pilgrimage here. This is the world's largest Walmart! 260,000 square feet of Wally World on two levels! Load up the family truckster like Clark Griswald and set out on your own Wally World adventure with a visit to this place! What will you find when you get here? A big Walmart......that's it. When they supersized this place they added grocery items to the downstairs. I shopped here before it was supersized....now they basically have the same stuff they always did (except the groceries) but now its just spread out. So, it now takes a few minutes longer to actually get to the item you want all the while dodging bargain hungry Walmarters! I actually usually avoid this place like the plague. I'm not anti-Walmart or anything but this store has about 32,000 checkout aisles and at any given time only about 4 of them are actually open. At no time of year is this worse than during the Christmas shopping season. It always seems I get behind that one person who has to further complicate the checkout by arguing about a price or who needs to divide their order into three separate payments. "I'll pay for these with a check, these with a debit card, and these with this huge jar of pennies!" It's Walmart, it is what it is! read more

This place was incredible. I went to go for two things. Something in housewares and something in electronics. Electronics was a mess and looked like a tornado had hit. Staff was nonexistent and a person who I did find said "I dunno" when asked where I could find the laptop items. In housewares products had the wrong price stickers and one aisle was completely closed off because someone spilled a bottle of bleach. Try another store before going to this Walmart. Went here the night before a college visit to SUNY Albany. I was with my mom, dad, and sister. We stopped in Walmart because we wanted books, simple enough. Got inside and started to look around but the books were nowhere to be found, so we asked the first sales assistant we came across (and believe me, he was hard to come across). This person didn't speak English. We managed to locate another sales assistant on the floor, and asked where the books were, and he gave us a blank stare as if he had never heard of a "book" before. The third assistant we asked directed us to the men's clothing department. Absolutely ridiculous. Also saw people cooking meth outside in the parking lot. A college student was jamming his cart in the do-not-enter side, my cashier bagged my meats with my produce and bread, the customer service rep is not friendly (she dropped a pen as she was about to give it to me, I had to pick up and she didn't say anything) and none of the greeters actually greet you. And what's up with that huge open area overlooking the supermarket section? This place is HUGE but so's the wasted space. If 10 clowns can fit in a car, they would be able to fit a roller coaster, mountains, chocolate water falls, and a dinosaur in here (in which case, I will wholeheartedly support this corporation). Today is 07/21/2014. Today after I left work I was in the mood for some M&M's so I decided to stop by the local Walmart and pick some up. I went a head to purchase them, left and opened the bag to have some. I have a few but for some reason they didn't taste right so I looked at the expiration date. According to the label they are best if eaten by 09/2913. There is something wrong with the time frame, why are they still on the shelf? Some some reason I'm thinking it might be part of Walmart eat fresh campaign. It is now the most ghetto sh*thole of a store possible, even by Albany standards. Items are out of stock, thrown all over the place, the store is not well maintained and just plain dirty.
