When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

The gentleman showed up on time, and took a look at what I had for a regulator, and said he'd be back shortly from the supply house. He worked quickly and got it changed in less than 1/2 hour. Quick, efficient, friendly, and most of all reasonably priced. Can't ask for more.

They have short 2 hour windows for appointments which is great that I didn't have a 4+ hour window of time I needed to wait for them to come. The gentlemen, Mike and Andre, that cleaned a clogged pipe we had with a giant snake, were really pleasant, kept everything clean and kept me informed about what their doing and what their recommendations were. Once they finished the work, I had another gentlemen come, Justin, who was an inspector and checked that the pipes we have are still good and there aren't any additional issues I should worry about. He too was really kind and allowed me to view exactly what he was seeing and walked me through the process. It was also nice that none of them tried to upsell me on additonal services or add ons. This inspector service was recommended to me and was free of charge. The snake drain cleaning was their most basic service for what I needed and was $700. I didn't do much shopping around so I don't know how their rate compares to others. Overall, I had a really good experience with them and would recommend it especially if you have urgent plumbing needs.

We had what I now learned from a non-local family friend was a simple backflow preventer failure. The friend ball parked it around $500-600 max, and that was with up to 2 hours of time taken. This company charged me $1300 for an hour of time with a single part being replaced. Similar parts are available online for $150 (and I assume they get parts even cheaper). My family is leaving town this weekend and I wanted to ensure this got fixed (but it was not an emergency call), so I didn't take time to vet out other contractors.
