I needed simple drapes made to replace what is already in a room (as that room is going to be…read moreredone). I'm not sure if Rachel just wasn't paying attention or if she choose to not listen or if Village Paint just doesn't want business, but Rachel (and then Rick) kept complicating everything and making the project much bigger than it needed to be. I must be taking crazy pills because it's been a while since I've dealt with this level of incompetence. Example 1 - Rachel didn't understand that there are 3 separate windows in the room and kept trying to say that it was a bay window. It is not a bay window. Maybe it's my fault for saying it can appear like a bay window from afar because the room's shape, but she kept telling me they can't install rods for a bay window. I told her it wasn't a problem since the room doesn't have a bay window, and she kept going back to "bay windows." When I said there are 3 separate sets of curtains in there now since there are 3 separate windows she responded with, "Why don't you want one set of curtains? You really want to open up 3 sets of curtains?" Ummmm, why would you make one pair of curtains for 3 windows is the better question. I even showed her a picture of the room. Example 2 - The current curtains have rings sewn into them. No idea why, but that's what is there (previous owners did them) and again I'm looking to replace those curtains with new ones. I *don't* want rings sewn into the new curtains. I said multiple times I don't want rings sewn into the new curtains. When Rachel called with a quote she went on and on about how sewing rings into curtains isn't something they can do, they need to refer me to a tailor, that all makes them uncomfortable, etc. I just have to assume she refused to listen to the 1000000 times I said I didn't want that. Example 3 - I understand that because the existing curtains have rings sewn into them I need to take the current rods off to remove the existing curtains. This is actually really simple and I did it in another room in the house. Rachel made it sound like this was akin to open heart surgery. Um, you just undo two screws. And since the new curtains won't have rings sewn into them (since I don't want that!) putting up the new curtains will be just like putting up any other curtain. Example 4 - When measuring the windows, Rick kept referring to how strange the existing curtains are, how the return is weird on them and how they're really long and "Do I really like how they drape along the floor like that?" If I wanted to keep this curtains, I wouldn't have called you guys! I want new curtains! This isn't rocket science. I understand there are nuances to even the simplest of things, but for the love of all that is holy, I want basic curtains and each step of the way I'm not being listened to but rather penalized for what the previous owner of my house did. It really is crazy. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is they have good fabric selections. Pricing isn't better than what an interior designer can get the fabric for, but it is better than what someone without design connections can get.

But for smaller sales - this might not be the place. I wanted to update my bedroom with a few new pieces. Came with measurements and a floor plan and my designer came up with a really creative way to set up my room. Sounds great - right? It was, until when the furniture was delivered, I discovered my designer had ordered the wrong size dresser/chest unit. It fits in my room but not in the way I thought it could be arranged. I called the store immediately, the designer came to the phone but offered no apologies, no options. It's a custom piece, of course, so I can't return it. But I am deeply disappointed and will not use this particular Ethan Allen again. Buying furniture should be fun - and for the price, their customers should be thrilled with how the room turns out. I can't dump tens of thousands on furniture right now - there will be plenty of business for them over time.

Ordered custom furniture for a new home that was being completed. Unfortunately there was an…read moreexplosion in the home just prior to purchasing it and I was forced to postpone the delivery of my furniture order (had nothing occurred the order would have been able to be delivered on time). This is where Ethan Allen customer service fell apart. Other vendors gladly agreed to hold my orders for many months with no issues due to the unusual unforeseen circumstances Ethan Allen refused to extend the time of holding my furniture frequently citing the terms of the contract that I had signed and that it "wasn't their fault". They wanted to force me to pay outrageous storage fees and to pay for the furniture in full, site unseen. I was forced to secure a unit at a storage facility near the property and have the furniture delivered there. This is still an expense, but much cheaper option than what Ethan Allen was going to charge me for storage. They even had the nerve to not deliver the complete order to the storage facility. They had to make a 2nd delivery to the unit a week later with the missing items. The storage unit is near my new home but is a 200 mile round trip from where I am temporarily living. So I had to travel a total of 400 miles because of their negligence with the delivery. Manager Barbara and salesperson Deborah were absolutely abominable and have zero compassion or customer service skills. I realize what occurred fell outside the parameters of their precious contract, but this was a very unique and unusual situation which required them looking past all that to help out a customer. Shame on Ethan Allen. They represent themselves as a high end store...when you are purchasing. Once the purchase has been finalized their true colors shine through. ** I live in Congers NY. We're pretty picky about interior design, and the entire team was super patient with us throughout the entire process and very helpful. The owner himself came to our house multiple times (initial measurements, double checking, partial installation, complete installation, follow-up, etc.) to make sure everything was going well. One time, when a third-party cabinet supplier forgot to include a side panel in the initial shipment, the owner handpicked a virtually perfect match from some unrelated stock and just gifted it to us so that we could cut it and apply it to our island in time for a huge party we were having at our house that weekend, and we got the actual panel shortly after that. They've got a great selection of cabinetry, hardware, and countertop material, in addition to some other stuff. It's been 13 months now since installation was complete, and we're still in a state of shock about how beautiful the whole thing is every time we walk into the kitchen. I could not recommend them more strongly.

Based on my recent personal experience, I unfortunately have to agree with all the negative…read morereviews. 1. Pressure to put down a deposit -- do NOT do it unless your design is final. They will push you hard to pay a deposit to "lock in" a price. In reality, any change to your initial design--no matter how small--results in a higher quote, and they will not provide any breakdown to justify the increases. You're left with two choices: accept the added cost on faith, or walk away and lose your deposit. There is no actual price lock. 2. Promises that aren't reflected in writing. The owner, Fatih, may verbally assure you that you can recover half of your deposit if you decide not to move forward during the design phase. Insist on getting everything in writing before paying anything. Once you receive the written terms (which only show up after you've sent the deposit if you let them rush you), you'll find that you are not entitled to any refund if you ever request your design--whether for review, record-keeping, or any legitimate purpose. Unsurprisingly, none of this is mentioned before they take your money. 3. Poor communication once they have your deposit. After paying, be prepared to chase them. I repeatedly had to send multiple emails and make follow-up calls just to receive a one-line response. And after these delays, they will inform you that your "locked-in" price is about to expire unless you finalize your order within a couple of days--again with no refund of your deposit if you don't. 4. Vague and non-specific documentation. The price they claim you've "locked in" only applies to an undefined "as-per-design" reference--without details. If you don't have a copy of the design, I'm not sure how you could ever prove what you supposedly locked in. They avoid putting anything concrete in writing, making it nearly impossible to hold them accountable. That alone should be a major red flag. I made the mistake of trusting this business based on a recommendation from someone I know. I hope that sharing my experience helps others avoid the same situation.
