I had a whole plan to go to Allen Carpet at 1964 Central Park Avenue and purchase a carpet to cross off. When I walked in, there was NO ONE else in the store and no employees anywhere to greet me. I kept calling out "HELLO? HELLO?" "Anyone here?" Someone from the back said "yes" but never appeared. After walking around and waiting a few minutes longer, I left. I figured that business must be "so good" that they didn't need my business so I went up the street and shopped at their competitor. We had our floors done less than a year ago. They were supposed to be refinished with gaps in the parquet filled in. The filler from all of the cracks have already popped out and there are large gaps in the parquet that I need to fill or have another company fill. I would love to say that Allen made good on their business but I left them a message a week ago and I'm still awaiting a call. Although there were some snags in terms of the delivery of our first set of area rugs when we moved to our new apartment, you couldn't ask for a better guy or salesman than Dennis. He is forthcoming and will do his best to get you the exact carpet you need (and/or want) while keeping the price affordable (as was the case when we recently needed two additional area rugs ASAP because apparently I exercise too loudly - SUCK IT UP, MAN!) The ordering process was great but the installation company had been a mess they Schedule for installation Saturday 2pm at 3:00 we get a call from the carpet installer saying that his first job took longer than he thought and it going to take a hour for him to get to hour house and his labor would finish until 7 and that he lives an hour away and he couldn't do the job today because he had something to do something on a Saturday night if we could please Reschedule to Monday @ 9am we were being understanding and agreed but when we booked they told us that Saturday was the quickest day that we can get the carpet installed because they next two day they were going to be working upstate and he assured us that he was coming on Monday at 9am to install the carpet it is now Monday and 9:30 rolls by and nothing so we call him and the installer says that he's 30-45mins away because he's running late at 11:00 still no call and he's still not here we call Allen's carpet and speak with the manger they say that we aren't on the schedule for today and we explain what happened they said they were going to figure it out and call us half an hour later and no call back so I call them and ask them what's going on and they say that the Installer was not supposed to reschedule us and to call the installation company and they say that she is trying to squeeze us in today if not we are going to have to reschedule again I explained to her that the room has been completely empty for a week and a half and it very difficult for us to move around the apartment just like I told the installer another hour passes and no word so I call and the same lady says that now the worker that was supposed to come to us just called and got a heat stroke that she is still trying to see when they can come install the carpet it's 3:30 and still no call at this point I am completely upset with the run around that we have been getting I am 8 months pregnant the amount of stress that this has caused is crazy all they keep saying was that he should of done his job and they don't know why he would say he's coming Monday when he can't make schedule for installation it's been a horrible experience update the rescheduled me for Tuesday at 11:45am read more

This review is long overdue. The reason I'm writing it now is because I am planning to go back again soon and give them repeat business without hesitation. I moved into my current home over a year ago and needed to buy a large area rug to fit under my large sectional. Instead of a rug, I opted for carpet remnant because I have pets and find carpet to be much easier to clean and care for. Allen Carpet had good reviews and was nearby so I stopped in to check them out. I am so happy I did. I got a really nice, plushy carpet cut to the large size I needed (8.5 x 11 ft) and had the ends bound to make a beautiful area rug for my living room. The manager and I talked about several options for my needs and he got me the rug, padding and delivery included for a great price. When my friends come over, a few of them love sitting on the it - even if that means they're on the floor instead of my couch. read more

Just bought a great new carpet and felt the need to share my experience. Having visited a very pushy and yet apathetic place in Eastchester I decided to drive along Central avenue. I visited both Abby and Allen (I must say both had great people and knew their stuff). Allen though got my business because of the manager Glenn. Knowledgeable, affable and an overall really nice guy. He helped select the right options, helped me get some samples in the car and worked with me on what would work best. Made the experience very enjoyable (I am using the term 'very enjoyable' to describe buying carpet!). I can't say enough great things about Dennis at Allen carpet. We went into the store and knew nothing about carpet and he took so much time to show us the quality/pricing difference in carpets and we are very picky. He also spent a lot of time with helping us find the plush carpet we were looking for on the budget that we needed. Allen carpet was also the only store that actually honored the coupons we brought in every other store we went to had so much fine print that basically the coupons didn't help you in anyway. They were also the least exspensive out of the 6 stores we visited and we went to discount outlets as well. We wanted a very soft plush carpet with stain master in it and all the other stores comparable brands didn't even come close to comparing in the softness and then when we found the same brand at another store they were charging $300 more then allen. Dennis made sure everything was rushed so we could get it as fast as possible and even honored the double thick padding before we had even asked that the coupon be applied. The only issue I had was with the main people(I guess its the warehouse or headquarters you deal with after you order) that deliver the carpet I forget her name, but she told me she would call the Friday before delivery for a time frame and she never did and I even called her on Friday and they said she was out to lunch and would call back but never did. In her defense though every other time I called she was very helpful and accommodating. I ended up calling Dennis that weekend and he was so helpful and made sure all my questions were answered. The installers were great as well. I would definitely use them again and again. read more

I had carpet from Allen Carpets installed for one room in my apartment this part Friday. The service at the store was fine, sales agents more than willing to assist and make a sale. I had a decent impression from the showroom perspective. Installation was scheduled for Friday, March 7th. They never called to confirm the day or time. I called around 11am and was told to expect delivery between 1pm and 3pm. At 3:30pm, no one showed. I needed to call back several times to listen to the sales agent apologize for the delay, but there was nothing that could be done. The installer and his assistant arrived at 7pm. Outrageous! They were in and out in 2 hours and the carpet looks beautiful. But, if you live in an apartment, be forewarned. The delivery service is unreliable. read more

We purchased carpeting from Allen Carpet in 2011, for two bedrooms and a basement. After one year, the basement carpeting became separated and they had to come back to repair which they did. However, the upstairs bedroom carpets are now buckling. I called and they said to fix the problem it would cost $250.00 but they would cut us a "bargain" and charge $150.00. This is ludicrous! Why don't they stand behind there product! They told me this is normal and it happens 30% of the time. Never happened to us when we went to Home Depot!!! read more

I found Allen Carpet because they were offering financing for a year in Clipper magazine. They honored the offer. They were really helpful in finding a floor that met my budget. I love the floor, I didn't want wood because it scratches and they recommended a high end vinyl. It's beautiful and it looks like large wood planks. We put it in on a diagonal and it looks amazing. It's the first compliment I get when people enter my kitchen. Also, they insisted that we take out the old floor, which Home Depot and my contractor said they would just put the new floor over the old one. So glad I went with Allen Carpet's advice, now my floor is the same height as the other floors in my house. read more
