The original oak floors in my 1955 home had been covered with carpet for decades. When we decided to remove the carpet and restore the floors, we quickly learned that while many wood flooring companies will install engineered hardwood, there are far fewer who will refinish existing hardwood. After speaking with a few professionals, we chose to hire Walk on Wood. Their price was in the middle, but Gary was incredibly responsive and seemed to really know his stuff. Throughout the job, I was impressed with the professionalism of his staff. When they found some underlying problems, they always informed me of a couple options, and then responded with a price quote to allow me to approve the work. They were careful to minimize dust in other rooms of our home. After three days of work, I've got beautiful floors. They minimized the dust as best as they could, but we still had to wipe down walls and clean quite a bit. One thing I wish I had known, although I blame myself for not doing enough homework. We had to move out for a few nights. They use water-based products, but the smell is still really toxic. There's also a period off many hours when you can't walk on the floors. Overall, a great experience, and I highly recommend Walk on Wood. read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Gary and his crew now twice! I hired them in 2019 to redo a wood floor covered by carpet since 1968 (see photos) it is a parquet pattern and it was refinished in grey and it looked phenomenal. Flash forward to September 2020 and my kitchen flooded out. It barely missed the wood floor. But out of precaution I bought some of the extra tiles from Gary. After work ended in February I hired Gary to come back on 3/31/21 to repair the wood floor as gashes and scratches were left in in by the idiotic contractors who damaged it. He gave me an estimate that beat all others but even when you're a bit nervous that his price is low, balance the 5 star yelp against it. I did and I'm happy I did. He worked with my canceling of schedules a bunch. I needed my floor to dry out. It took longer than we thought. He was flexible. Gary's team arrived on time. He has a vast team of seasoned professionals. I used another awful guy last time and I can see the difference in Gary's work in many ways. The corners, cracks, seams, thresholds... that's where you see the quality. Anyone can run a sander and paint on some coating. They do more. One of his teams had a guy that is a bit overcooked - a bit too long in the job -- and he and I got into it a bit. What can I say. Gary showed up 5 minuttes before of the appointment to see the floors, so he is not delayed. He took a look at the pretty damaged floor, and after 30 minuttes he gave a quote. We accepted that quote, because it was 30% less than we could get elsewhere (don't read this Gary !!!!). Gary showed up 1.5 minuttes late the first day, and he did a splendid job of sanding the floor that was improperly done 20 years ago.
